Ideacenter K330B One Key Recovery External Hard Drive

Hello, a few months back I made a full backup of my system to an external hard drive. I reached a point where it was just easiest to start my computer over using the One Key Recovery. I had to go with the factory settings at least temporarily. Is there anyway I can use the external hard drive backup to restore my stystem? The One Key system doesn't seem to agree with it.
Thank you for any replies.
Sorry if there is a post like this elsewhere. I tried to see if their was and didn't see any that applied directly to what I needed.

hi Nutcracker,
When you tried to restore your backup using OneKey Recovery, are you getting any specific error message?
Can you also try to:
1. Format the external HDD with NTFS (move your OneKey Recovery backup to another computer first)
2. Make external HDD's the partition active and copy back the OneKey Recovery backup image
3. Boot into OneKey Recovery 7.0 and try to restore your backup.
Let me know your findings
Regards,
neokenchi

  • Powerbook 15" w/ Tiger won't read Maxtor One Touch II External Hard Drive

    Hi all:
For some reason my G4 Powerbook can't recognize my Maxtor One Touch II external hard drive. I am trying to find a firewire cable that fits, as the Maxtor just gave me a USB and says that the cable won't work with mac. I am trying to find a cable that has a "printer type" end and a firewire end. Will it help? Where do I find it?
    Thanks,
    Chris

No the printer type end, won't work in Mac OS X either. The software that is included with One Touch does not work well on Tiger or later. Instead I recommend not using that software, and instead using Shirt Pocket Superduper for backup. Or look for EMC/Dantz to update the drivers for the included software to Tiger. I think the One Touch does have a Firewire 6 pin connector which is Mac compatible. These ports look like the Firewire port on your G4 Powerbook. Port number 2 below is a Firewire port:
You can buy the cable from the Apple Store, or any major Mac mail order shop such as Macwarehouse, Maczone, Macconnection, or even CDW.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.
    Rich

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • My iMac can no longer find one of the external hard drive

My iMac can no longer find one of the external hard drive. It was finding it once in awhile and during one of those times I ran Disk Utility and all was OK. Any ideas?

Well duh.  I restarted the router and then it was able to find the printer.  There you go.  Thanks.

  • What format should I use for Maxtor  One Touch III external hard drive

I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum section, but hopefully you can help. I just got a Maxtor One Touch III external hard drive with the firewire 400/usb 2.0 port. I installed the cd and followed the manual and it told me to format it. I went to disk utility and went to the "erase" section, but now it wants me to choose the type of format: mac os extended (case-sensitive), mac os journaled, mac os (case-sensitive, journaled) and so on.... Can anyone tell me what those formats mean/do, and what is the best one to use? Thanks!

Case sensitive is really if you are using some old UNIX programs that you have brought the source over to OS X and compiled them. And the UNIX programs have to expect a case-sensitive file system.
I'm betting this isn't the case... or you'd know what a case sensitive file system is.
    So go with HFS+ Journaled

  • How do i transfer all my information from old computer to this one with a external hard drive

how do i tranfer old info from my other computer to the new one with a external hard drive?

Copy what you want from the old computer's Home folder to the external drive. Connect the drive to the new computer and restore that data to the proper locations in the new computer's Home folder.

  • Data Recovery - External Hard Drive

    Hi,
I have recently copied over a folder on my iOmega (Prestige Portable) External Hard Drive with a folder from my Power Book Hard Drive, with the replace all.
What I need to know is there a way to step back to the point before I copied over this folder?
Ok so here comes the Dumb bit, I have never set up Time Machine! Yes I know, very stupid!
So I'm now in the process of seeing if it is possible to step back with data recovery software and if this is possible what do people reccomend! I have tried SanDisk RescuePro but It comes up with a message saying that the drive is too big, I think it is meant for Flash Drives!
Have I posted this in the right Discussion thread? If not were do you think I would be best to post this?
    Thanks

Us mere mortals do tend to learn things the hard way, don't we?

FIrst, stop using the drive immediately. If the files haven't been overwritten already, the more you use it, the more likely that is.
There are several Data Recovery apps for Macs; +Data Rescue II+ seems to be the one mentioned here most often, but others get good reviews, too. I've not used any, so can't say one is better than another.
I understand you'll need another external disk to receive the recovered files. (But you'll probably need one anyway for Time Machine or other backup app that you'll be using regularly from now on, right? You can use a second internal HD, Time Capsule, or in some cases back-up over your network.)
I also understand that some of these apps have a trial version that will tell you whether there's anything to be recovered, and perhaps recover a single file, so you don't spend the $$ for nothing.
Look for +Data Recovery+ via Google, VersionTracker.com or MacUpdate.com. The last two have user reviews. Just be certain whatever you use is compatible with Leopard.
And/or, search for +Data Recovery+ in the Using Leopard forum.

  • Data Recovery external hard drive - Stellar Phoenix or Disk Drill?

    Hi guys
This might not be the right location for my post, sorry, but I didn't know where to put it elsewhere.
This is the situation: My Finder keeps telling me that copying a huge folder to my My Book Studio Edition II is imposible, so I tried to reconfiger the external hard drive. Result: all my data is lost on that one (stupid me, indeed )
Luckily, I have another external HD with a back-up from the 1st of july, and the most recent files are on my computer. Only some folders an files are lost, or not up-to-date anymore, since I stored them on the external hard drive without making a back-up on the other external HD.
Google told me that Stellar Phoenix and Disk Drill can help, and indeed, Stellar Phoenix already showed me the map structure I had on my My Book Studio Edition II before completely erasing it, and this after only having scanned less than 5 %, but before continuing, I wonder if this software (and Disk Drill) are reliable, and they won't do anything bad to me beloved MacBook Pro
    Thanks for your opinion!
    Bob

    Apparently, I found the solution.
Doing the below procedure I was able to access the files and copy all the content of My Documents.
To resolve this issue, you must turn off Simple File Sharing, and then take ownership of the folder:
    Turn off Simple File Sharing:
Click Start, and then click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Advanced Settings, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.
Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message, if one appears.
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click your user name, Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group.
If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, click to select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
    Click OK.
You may receive the following error message, where Folderis the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of:You do not have permission to read the contents of directory Folder. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control? All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
    Click Yes.
Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and the folder contents.

  • Bridge (CS4) refuses to 'see' one of my external hard drives

I have three external hard drives. All are recognised by Bridge. In order to cope with my large collection of images I have installed a fourth - a 1Tb Fujitsu Storagebird.   This is recognised by Photoshop CS4 (all updates applied) (but not if I try Browse in Bridge), by My Computer on Windows, by DxO Pro, even by by IrfanView.   But Bridge plays fast and loose.  I have, on occasion, managed to get it to recognise the drive, but generally I have to struggle, restarting the Fujitsu, refreshing View in Bridge.  Today, however, it is completely refusing to recognise the drive.
    Any ideas?

    Dear Curt,
For a moment there I thought you had the answer.  Sadly, no.  I disabled the Autostart, rebooted. No joy.  Still won't recognise the drive.  A couple of odd things:  as I said, it has on occasion recognised the drive; when I switch on the drive and get the 'What do you want Windows to do?' box there is an entry for 'Download images using Adobe Bridge CS4'.  If I click on that it rushes off and prepares to do that.  So it is aware of the drive.  Finally, Bridge recognises the three other drives.   The 'rogue' drive works with all other programmes
    Is a puzzlement...
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Transferring playlist from one mac to external hard drive- to another mac

Hi, a buddy made a playlist of music for me (about 3 days worth) of his music. We tried to download the list to his extenal hard drive so that I could then upload it to my itunes. However, whenever we tried to send the playlist to his external, the titles show up momentarily then are no where to be found in the external hard drive. Help
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

guess I didn't think of it as stealing music since all the music we were trying to copy is from cd's he purchased. What's the difference between transferring the file and me borrowing all his cd's and copying them to my Itunes?

  • USB keys and external hard drives disappear after 30 seconds to 1 minute of being mounted.

I just got my 15' MacBook Pro refurbished (by Apple), and everything is working well except my USB ports. My USB keys appear for 30 seconds to as much as 2 minutes before disappearing from eveywhere, my desktop, finder and disk utility.  I have a 1 TB WD passport for mac that also has the same problem, but can stay on the desktop and copy files for around 10 minutes. Then error -36 shows up, the hard drive disappears from the desktop and finder, but only appears in disk utility. It is powered as well, The light is currently flashing indicating it's receiving power as I am typing this. But still, no way i can copy anyhting onto it.
I have searched and searched for the solution to this problem, I have tried using apple script to find "invisible hard drives." and that doesn't work either.
On my windows partition in bootcamp, all usb keys work perfectly fine.
Is it because the USB ports are out of energy and dying? If so, should the refurbishment have covered that and replaced them? (Note: refurbishment included everything from my Keysboard to my battery to my Optical drive and cable optical drive flex)
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem on my own?
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi wdmpfm,
Here is something from an earlier post on the -36 error that may help to identify the issue:
A -36 is a disc I/O error. You might have a corrupt file, or a corrupted drive. Try creating a new file and see if you still get the error. If you do, it might be wise to run a Disc Repair program to see if it can find any errors that it can fix.
    And one from another thread:
You need to format your drive correctly. New drives come formatted for Windows, & then they seem to work — but not properly.
    +Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility+
Choose one of the +Mac OS Extended+ formats.
Obviously first you will have to back-up all the data you have already put on the drive, because it will all be lost when you re-format.
Hope one of these may help!
    Cheers,

  • I am trying to make a DVD of some of my photos in iPhoto 11.   The photos are in iPhoto, but in one of my external hard drives.   I have been able to make DVD's just recently, but not now.  What can I do?  At the end I get a notice of "failure

HELP, HELP, I am having difficulty making a DVD-R  of some photos I have in one of my folders in iPhoto 11.   I use iPhoto on my external HD.   I have never had problems before today making copies of my photos using DVD-R disk.   I am doing the same thing that worked before.   Some of my photos are going to be put in a gallery for showing and I need to make a DVD so they can choose which ones to display and enlarge the photos.   It was due TODAY!  Yikes!  At the end of each try I get a window saying "BURN FAILED - The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S drive failed.  The disk drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry."    help...........

How are you getting the photo onto the disk to burn?  Have you tried exporting then to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disk using the Finder.  That will give you a data disk with just the jpeg image files in the folder.
If that's what you're doing and getting the burn failed then it's a system or optical drive issue.
If you're using the Share  ➙ Burn menu in iPhoto that will create a disk with a mini iPhoto library on it that can only be used by another Mac running iPhoto.
Can you elaborate on your workflow.

  • Brand new to forum.  Can a Maxtor IV One Touch external hard drive previously used on a PC be formatted to work with my Mac Pro OSX  version 10.6.8?

I've never participated in a forum before; so, please let me know if I'm going about it wrong.
My question is this:  Can a Maxtor One Touch 4 external hard drive that was previously used on a PC be set up for use on my Mac Pro?  I'm preparing to upgrade the Mac to the most recent software version and it was suggested I back everything up first.
I reformatted the hard drive so it is currently empty.  There are icons on my Mac desktop for One Touch 4 and Maxtor Manager but other than that nothing appears to be working.  There are no drives showing in the Maxtor Manager so I suspect that's where I need to start.  However, I don't know enough about what I'm doing to move ahead on my own and I don't want to screw anything up.  If anyone knows the steps I should take next, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.

I am embarrassed how simple that was.  I did warn you that I'm technologically challenged; I'm pretty sure that proved it.
The external hard drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The link you provided indicates the external drive will work with Time Machine.  I've never worked with Time Machine and don't know what my next step should be.  Would you please walk me through it?
Your help is greatly appreciated.  From the points you have accumulated, I can tell you have helped many others and I thank you for your generosity.

  • What is the proper procedure to backup to multiple external hard drives if one wishes to rotate drives such that you may store one in a fire safe?

Description:  If I want to back up to two external hard drives using Time Machine, what is the proper procedure to follow such that I could keep one attached to Time Machine for daily backups, and one that I attach monthly such that I can back it up monthly, and then store it in a fire safe.  To do this, what are the exact steps to follow?
    Research in Progress:
I selected the "?" icon in Time Machine which took me to "Mac Help - Time Machine Preferences" section.  I reviewed this section, including the "Select Backup Disk, Select Disk, Add or Remove Backup Disk."  It says, "If you haven’t set up Time Machine, click Select Backup Disk to set up a backup disk. Repeat the steps for each backup disk you want to set up."  I did add two backup disks.  It goes on to say "If you already set up Time Machine, your backup disks are listed, and information about each backup disk is shown. To select, add, or remove backup disks, click Select Disk or Add or Remove Backup Disk."  Well, what is lacking here is what happens when you "Remove" the backup disk.
As I have read this section, it raises additional questions:
    What are some cautionary statements.
What happens after you remove a backup disk?  Will Time Machine recognize it later?
What is the proper procedure for removing and ejecting one of your external hard drive when you use it with Time Machine?  What happens if you don't "remove" a backup drive and instead just drag it to the "trash can, i.e. eject it" and later reconnect it.?

Time Machine supports multiple backup drives including network area storage volumes (NAS) as well as physically-connected external backup drives.
In , System Preferences, Time Machine, add the second drive by clicking Select Disk.
All available connected drives including connected network drives are displayed.
Select the additional drives, one at a time.
Connected Network drives are displayed on the desktop only when actively being used by Time Machine for backup.
When prompted, select 'use both' when adding the second drive.
Then choose Select or Remove at the bottom of the list of available devices and network volumes to add additional drives.
Time Machine then automatically rotates backups among the available designated devices and volumes.
If the drive is physically not present, Time Machine skips to the next available backup drive.
To DISMOUNT a drive to take it off-site, it is NOT necessary to remove it from the Time Machine preferences.
When the drive is NOT in use, dismount it by Command+clicking that Drive icon on your desktop (or in Finder) and then "Eject".
    That's it.
After 10 days with no backups to a given device, Time Machine does display a message and (as I recall) asks if you want to remove that drive from the rotation.
You can never be too rich or have too many backups!
