IdeaCentre K450 Hot-swappable drive specs

I have a new IdeaCentre K450 - 57314032 - Black. It has a hot-swappable drive bay in front but the users manual does not give any specifications on what kind of drive to use. I usually use a portable external USB HDD for backup, but a swappable drive seems like it might be a better solution--in the range of 500GB to 1TB.
Can you give me any advice on what type of drive would fit? Is it a 3.5" x 1/3 height form factor? All the accessories in the Lenovo store seem to be for the Think-series--would any of them work?

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the specifications are not available online, but below is the link for K450 Datasheet for the information about the Hot-swappable drive and a link to the post customers have tried different type of HDD and succeeded in hot swapping with the computer.

  • Registering Extended warranty for my IdeaCentre K450

    Hello all,
At a loss here to be honest,
I purchased an IdeaCentre K450 Desktop and along with it for piece of mind payed for the 2 year accidental damage warranty, called - 2YR Mail-in/CCR + Accidental Damage Protection.
The computer arrived perfectly fine but when it came to register the warranty, things started to go wrong when it asked for my product number.
In the email i recieved it told me to click the link and register my extended warranty. It asked for a 4 digit number but on the side of my desktop it has a 5 digit number.
Stumped by this i called the helpline which was beyond useless, i kept getting told i was in the wrong department and that i needed to call another number. I got passed on to 4 different people, all of which were fairly rude.
What i did pick up is that yes the warranty does require a 4 digit number and also they kept asking "So you are trying to register the warranty on a ThinkPad?" When i told them it was an IdeaCentre i would then get passed on.
I am feeling very lost and worried that i have purchased a £600 computer that i am completely on my own with if anything goes wrong.
I am wondering if i have been miss-sold the warranty as it seems that the warranty i have purchased isn't for an IdeaCentre even though it popped up as an option when buying it.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated as i am at a total loss.
    Many thanks,
    Pauline

  • Ideacentre K450 video board upgrade

    Hello,
I have an Ideacentre K450, and I'm trying to upgrade the video from onboard graphics to an aftermarket installed PCI slot GPU.
When I install the card, the machine does not boot.
thanks in advance for the help

    hi Rob_O13,
Good to know you got the GPU working.
As for the new PSU, you're likely referring to the P9 (3-pin) custom connector from the stock PSU that powers up the power control switch LEDs.

      - Link to picture
AFAIK, there's no adapter for this connector as this is a proprietary design on the stock PSU but you can try what other users did to connect the P9 (3pin) connector to a 4-pin molex to power up the leds.

  • Ideacentre K450 Wifi unter Windows 7

    Hallo hallo,
    Danke schonmal vorab.
    Gelöst!
    Gehe zu Lösung.

    Hi Alex,

  • Best Portable USM HDD for K450 hot-swap bay

I have read suggestions for the best portable USM HDD for K430 hot-swap bay, but I'm not sure if the K450 has the exact same hot-swap bay as the K430.  Are the drives suggested for the K430 the same ones that would be best for the K450?  I haven't even received my Lenovo K450 yet. I ordered it on Thursday and it will arrive on Monday Oct. 14, 2013. I just want to understand the hot-swap bay because I thought there was a way I could use a hard drive out of my old computer and put it in an external drive case and plug it right in.  After reading the literature here in the community posts, that doesn't appear to be the purpose of the bay.  I wish it would work that way because I wanted to easily offload some documents that are saved on my 500 GB Western Digital 3.5" hard drive that I would have liked to move to my new computer easily.  My old computer is not working at all anymore, so I can't just drag and drop them from my extra 500 GB drive from that computer onto the new one.
    Solved!

I purchased this same drive and it works great!!  It is too bad that Lenovo didn't tell me this when I contacted their support team.  It would have saved me a lot of time!!

  • Hard Drive Specs

Trying to buy the right hard drive.
    Currently running OS X 10.2.8 on a 733 G4 M8359LL/A
The best i can remember the HD is a 60GB...
if it is a 60GB the specs say Hard Drive Interface 60GB Ultra ATA/66 (7200 rpm). I would like to know for sure.
The specs also say i have room for up to 3 internal ATA Hard Drives.
Final goal is to keep what i have on the present drive
    Mac OS 9.2.2 with OS X 10.2.8
the second drive to have OS X 10.4 Tiger
    Any input is appreciated

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forum!
It looks like you have a Quicksilver Mac. You can add another ATA 66/100/133, 7200RPM Hard Drive. It can be located on top of the existing HDD or next to it on the other HDD bay. There are 12v Power wires and IDE cables already in place in the chassis. Basically, put the HDD in place, plug in the power and ribbon IDE cable and the HDD is installed. It will need to be formatted (initialized) and then you can put an OS on it. After that, you select which HDD is the Boot disk in the 'Startup Disk' pref's Pane.
Here is the Apple help web URL, PDF's and movies:
    http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
BTW, your model Mac only can use a HDD that is 127GB or less. If you install anything larger, only 127GB will be seen. To install a larger HDD you will need a PCI Controller card.

  • Solid State Drive Specs

    Group;
I'm looking to get the new 17" MacBook Pro with a 256 GB SSD and I want to find out what the read and write speeds are. Does anyone know where I can find this out? Does anyone know who manufactures the hard drive?
    Thanks in Advance
    Eddie

I would be willing to bet Apple will stick with Samsung as the logical choice since the 128GB in the Air's etc is the Samsung disk. As soon as someone get their hands on one in a store etc they should be able to confirm using System Profiler.
Samsungs spec for the 128GB can be found here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/products/flash/ssd/2008/pro duct/lineup.html
Preliminary information on the 256GB can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/25/samsung-announces-crazy-fast-256gb-ssd-our-kn ees-buckle/
    A summary:
    128GB reads are 90MB/Sand writes are 70MB/S
256GB reads are 200MB/S and writes are 160MB/S
    Hope this helps

  • External drive specs

I have shot some video on DV Cam format. I need to send it all to a friend who will edit it on his FCP system. Here's my plan: digitize the video through iMovie at the highest quality through a firewire, saving it to an external drive and send him the drive when I am done. (It's six hours worth of footage.) I want to keep the original tape safe with me.
Here's my question: when I go to buy an external drive for this purpose, does it have to have a certain speed requirement? I'm clear on how big it needs to be, but do I need to be careful on some other technical requirements? I hope to find a decent, small, inexpensive external drive. Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Bad idea...send him the tape, let him capture with FCP.
#20 Using iMovie to Capture for FCP edit
Shane's Stock Answer #20: Using iMovie to Capture for use in FCP.
iMovie handles the media differently from FCP, specifically where audio is concerned. So it is not a recommended workflow. Here's why...
iMovie captures using DV Stream (.dv) standard which does not use timecode. That is a big disadvantage over the way that FCP captures in that you can't go back and recapture the material at a later date if you need to revisit a project.
The DV/NTSC specification (the one FCP uses) also calls for seperate tracks for audio and video, even if you capture it as one clip. iMovie' DV stream format is muxed audio and video, which means that they are tied together (I can't get into specifics because I ain't no engineer or programmer). FCP is a bit more demanding and captures the seperate audio/video tracks, either in a single media file or as seperate video and audio files. With FCP you could capture video only or audio only because each is defined by the DV specs. while with iMovie you can't.
Also, if you drop the iMovie footage into the timeline, your will get the RED render bar forcing you to render the footage in order to see it. You can use either QT Pro or Compressor to convert the .dv footage into DV/NTSC in order for FCP to work with it without needing to render.

  • Is the IdeaCentre K450 compatible with the GTX 970?

By comptabile I mean, of course, will the graphics card fit in the board? Specifically I have the K450, Machine type: 10120, Config number: 57323871.
Or to make it simpler, I have this board: ( http://flash.newegg.com/Product/N82E16883266696?icid=SE_83-266-696 )
Note that's not my exact PC, but the board seems to be exactly the one I have, only some differences (mine came with 12GB instead of 8GB RAM, for example, etc.)
My main concern being the size of the GeForce GTX 970. The lenght shouldn't be an issue since there's plenty of space below the drive bays, but because it's dual width I'm concerned if the card will be in conflict with where the heat sink down there is located. Essentially if the card passes over it, that's fine, but I'm not sure if that heat sink will actually obstruct the card and not allow it to fit in place, That link I posted has images of the mother board and said heat sink. I intend to upgrade the PSU as well (due to the GPU's requirements), but I'm unsure if this card will even fit in there?

    Hey there Punk Phil,
It sounds like you are wanting to know if the Universal Dock is compatible with your iPod. If you are referring to the iPod Touch 4th gen, then yes according to this article it is:
    Learn about Apple Universal Dock
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1380
The Apple Universal Dock includes five Dock Adapters that fit iPhone 4 and 4S, iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod touch (2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations), and iPod nano 5th generation. • Mini PC NB205 hard drive specs?

I am a brand new NB205 mini PC owner.  Specs says this is supposed to have a 160 Gb hard drive, but eveything on my system shows it at only 141.55 Gb.  Where's the other approx. 20 Gb?? I am not a very technical person, so maybe I just don't understand how this is supposed to show up.  Thanks in advance for any insight/help.

This is a common question from new computer owners.  Rather than repeat the explanation, I'll point you to another thread in which cee_64, another forum member, explains it:

  • Hard drive specs for Pismo?

Hi I would like to upgrade my Pismo with a new HD.
I just wanted to check with the experts that I know what specs to look for.
So, as long as its an IDE laptop drive thats 9.5mm tall I'm ok. Is this correct?
    Thanks!

    Steven,
Yes, Tiger is very compatible with the Pismo and the ideal version of OSX for this machine. Please limit yourself to an HD no larger than 128GB; the BootROM in these older powerbooks are unable to "see" any HD space beyond this limit.
I would generally avoid the Seagate Momentous HDs; there has been a higher than normal failure of this manufacturer's HD in the MacBooks. Although the MacBook uses the SATA HDs and not the ATA/IDE (PATA) used in the non-Intel powerbooks, and the design may be somewhat different, it makes sense just to select another brand.
If absolute speed is a high priority, then go with the 7200rpms; otherwise, I would just buy the 5400rpm drive. The average person, and I include myself, will notice little if any difference.
Other than what I have mentioned, just pick an HD and go with it.

  • IBook G3 (dual usb) hard drive specs?

Is there anyone who can tell me the full specs on the hdd's that come with these computers? I've searched everywhere, and can't seem to find any information on it.
Most importantly, I'd like to know what kind of connectivity it uses. I know that Macintosh computers during this period of time pretty much had all there own proprietary hardware, but I'd like to see if I can't buy an external enclosure that I could hook this hdd into. My dad's lappy had the infamous logic board problem, and I'd like to be able to back up all the data he had on his G3 iBook, because some of it pertained to an important event with his business that he kinda needs his documents for.
If it helps, it's an A1005, according to the case.

Actually Macintosh computer hardware of that time was no more or less proprietary than common PC notebook machines. Many replaceable parts were far from proprietary. They were using industry standard IDE hard drives and industry standard DDR memory modules. Of course the batteries were proprietary, but that's common for every single notebook computer manufacturer I've every heard of. Apple had gone to USB earlier than most PC makers and most common USB devices work well on a Mac. The processors and chipsets weren't the same ones that PC makers were using, but most of the common parts were no different.
As was said earlier, a common enclosure should be able to do the trick. I personally don't like the term "enclosure" because it doesn't adequately describe what it does. I sometimes call them "interface bridges" for the part that serves as a communications bridge between the hard drive interface and the USB or FireWire interface.

  • RE: Need drive spec info

I can't find out how to get the info on my DVD drive. I need to know the write speed. I can find the drive, in the about this computer, but I can't get any info besides what media it burns and plays. I have the last Power PC MAC G5 before the Intel chips came out.

Hi. Well - there is some info here
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_dual2.0.html
and also bottom of the page here
    http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/PowerMac_G5_Late2005.html
but it depends on exactly which optical drive was/is fitted to your G5, and possibly also which version of firmware it has.
If you pick up the drive model from System Profiler and google it you may find more info on the manufacturers site.
If you have it, Toast will list the possible burn speeds of the optical drive in Recorder > Disc Info.
    Good Luck.
And OS X 10.5 will give you info on the specific blank disk write speeds in System Profiler...

  • WD 1TB Green Drive Specs?

Does anyone know what the specs are of the WD 1TB green drives are? I can't find any specs such as if they spin at 7200RPM or anything else. I Bought two of them on Monday when I bought my Mac Pro assuming they would be 7200 RPM but some reports say it may be in between 5400 and 7200. I'm not real worried since I am mostly using my Mac Pro for accessing my huge iTunes music and video library. The media still plays instantly but I just want to know the specs of these drives.
    Thanks

I found their specification data here. Rotational speeds are not typically reported on "green" drives because one way the conserve power is to reduce rotational speed during operation. However, what is important as far as performance is concerned is reported in the spec sheets. Rotational speed isn't that important.
