Ideal System?

I am a longtime Premiere user, now working with CS3 - almost exclusively SD, but moving gradually to HDV. My Dell XPS was powerful at purchase - Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, 4gb RAM, 23" 1920 x 1200 monitor, 2 external & 2 internal HDs. Also added an 800 Firewire, for reasons unknown. It is now a little long in the tooth and output to Media Encoder can take a long, long time. Anyway, I want to get a new system (leaning toward Dell again) and keep the same monitor/speakers. For someone looking to spend maybe $3- or $4,000, and sensing that Blu-ray may be good include as a second drive, are there any suggestions in terms of processor, hard drives, XP vs. Vista, graphics card and RAM? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Also, with the right system, can one avoid intermediaries such as Cineform and Maatrox??
Thanks
Paul

I tried editing hdv on a PIV and it was nightmarishly slow.
But i upgraded to a quad core and the difference is astonishing. Id personally rather spend the money on mem and cpu than an intermediate codec or 3rd party capture card. While I cant really knock Cineform (they are good at what they do) with a really fast system and sw that is designed to handle native codecs like PPRO seems to be strategically designed to do; it is a good solution. Anytime I can avoid loading plugins, drivers, 3rd party sw and keeping it all in sync; the better.

What are the ideal system requirements for Adobe Captivate?* In order to ensure it runs at a good speed.

I don't know about ideal, but I'm using an Intel Core2 Duo, 3.16ghz, 3.46gb ram, winXP Pro SP3.  This is an HP branded PC, it uses the onboard Q45 video.
I rarely have any problems that I haven't caused myself (having too many applications open while I work).
    hope that helps.

  • Ideal System Setup (PAGEFILE Recommendations!!)

    Hello:
I've got a Core Duo 1.86Ghz and just installed 2gigs of RAM. Any suggestions on my WinXP virtual memory settings?

    Darren,
Sorry if this sounds like a brush off, but there are many posts around here about configurations in various price classes, that a quick look at some of the posts here will give you all the info you may need.
If I take your 'ideal system' literally at this moment:
    i7-3960X
    Asus Rampage Extreme X79 mobo
    8 x 8 GB DDR3 1866+
    4 x Crucial M4 SSD in raid10 for OS & programs
    Areca ARC-1880iX-24 / 4 GB
    18 x Hitachi 7K3000 2 TB disks in raid30, including 2 hot-spares for video (8 x r3 + 1 x HS and 8 x r3 + 1 HS, striped)
    nVidia GTX 580 / 3 GB
    Lian Li A77 case
    2 x BR burners
    etc.
    More realistically, without knowing his budget, i7-2700K, Z68, F4 320 G boot disk, 16 GB, GTX 560+, 2 x 2 aid0 plus a good backup plan.

  • Ideal system for HD Video/FCP?

Since I'm getting into the HD video world, I need to upgrade to a better machine, and was wondering what kind of requirements I'll need to import/play/edit HD Video using FCP. The camera I'll be using is the Panasonic TM700.
Will the base model dual 2.66ghz be sufficient? Or does the amount of RAM determine performance in this area?

According to the Final Cut Studio system requirements: http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/ all you need is 2GB of RAM for compressed video which is what your suggested camera records.
However, I have a Macbook Pro with 2GB of RAM and it's a real dog if you're doing more than one thing at a time (not including FCS). It runs out of RAM easily.
What computer are you planning to get (Macbook Pro?, iMac? Mac Pro?). If you're serious I wouldn't settle for less than 8GB but you could probably get by with 4GB if you're over budget. You can always upgrade later.

  • The Ideal System?

    hello,
i compose very complex compositions in Logic 9 for film using tons of tracks and third party plug-ins.
at times my system freezes or crashes so i wonder if anyone has advice on what ways i could upgrade my system to be able to handle these intense projects better. is more RAM the key?
this is what im currently working with:
    2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    6 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    OSX 10.6
if anyone has advice and time to comment it would be great to gain more insight.
    thanks!!
    Luke.

More Ram enables you to load more (sample-based) VIs into Logic. As the sample headers are kept in RAM when streaming from disk the more RAM you have the more samples you can load. But Logic in 32 Bit mode still has a RAM limitation of about 4 Gigs physical RAM and 3,7 virtual RAM. Everything exceeding that will crash Logic. Using 3rd party apps like Kontakt 3.5 upwards /which has it's own Memory server) or Vienna Ensemble Pro which also has it's own Memory server and can also serve as a Plug-In host for other VIs will take advantage of all the RAM you have in your system.
So get at least 6 Gigs I would say, it's very affordable if you don't buy it from Apple directly.

  • The ideal system: Creative and Logite

    I want to buy a XtremeMusic at 45. or a Elite Pro a 2?.
Which is the best one? Of course the Pro, but it is worth 70? in more? I will only use it to see film, to listen to music and to play videogame.
I have bought the Creative T6060. In order to take advantage of the power of the X-fi, I need to buy a new system?
Which is the best one between Creative GigaWorks? ProGamer G500 at 220? , or a Logitech? Z-5400 Digital 5. at 205?
    Some suggestion?
    Tanks

I like the combination of creative cards with Logitech speakers. I am currently running X-Fi Elite Pro with Logitech 5300e and I like it lot - I had a Gigiworks 500w system, but the subwoofer died. I do remember with that system, the speakers would crackle - I have yet heard it crackle on my 5300e speakers.
I think most of problems people here is becasue of running on creative speakers - it may not be the sound cards at all. - except for some some AMD systems using nForce motherboards.

  • What ideal system do i need to edit with HD?

I know it is a very broad question...
but i have FCE 4 HD... and it doesnt run very good when working with HD...
    i have an IMAC 1gb 2GHz 20"
do i need to upgrade the memory?

I assume the "1GB" is referring to the amount of RAM your computer has? If so, I would upgrade that. Consider that your computer probably needs to use at least half a gigabyte of RAM to perform normal OS functions, so FCE can only use what's left.

  • Opinions on fastest systems

I want to see how this turns out! OK....you can buy Intel's up to 3.8Ghz and AMD's up to 2.8Ghz so there is a very big difference between the two. Now....you can buy different makes and models of MB's some with no OCing abilities and some made just for OCing. NOW....when you put it all together and want to build the fastest machine possible and that includes using the best MB,CPU,Memory,PSU,Video cards,Raptor HD's and Water cooling what would be your ideal machine? Now this is if you had the money and wanted to put together the best machine possible. Now lets hear about your ideal systems.

well I dont know abot cadd  never used that before but from what I hear about people who do use the operton for cadd it is ideal. I myself bought the Operton  because of its cool running nature and from how the people on DFI STREET raven on about it as a champ of overclocking while being able too run very cool temp wise OC ED Currently I have mine clocked too 2.5 ghz and it is rock solid stable idle temps at 31c under full load  dual instancess of stress prime 95 torture testing  4 hrs peek is like 46-47 on air I would say that's pretty damn good! Needless to say I am very impressed with it as a dual core compared too the x2 4200! But never the less it all depends on what you do with youre  rig and how you use it right now ttheir are not too many programs that really take advantage of it uless you are a dedicated server thats where it shows its true colors and gameing too and a number of other things like photoshop, and video encodeing and stiuff of that nature. I bought it so that I could have one for every day use multi tasking , gameing, large file transfers, etc ,etc butt eventually you wont be able to buy these anymore thats another motivateing factor for me eventually I will put it too use in a server rig ultimately thats the final destination. Oh and for dude that started the thread yes its all true everything that you her is 100% true about these chip's they are in fact awesome in every resect!!!!  2.5 ghz opty 175 Just getting warmed up!!! 10,202 3D MARK 05  104,000 AQUA MARK3

  • Determining system load

Is it possible for the Java RTS to return information about the load the threads it manages are putting on the CPU? I have developed a number of alternative schedulers using the priority scheduler as my base (using some of the ideas brought up on this forum and some ideas from Dr. Andy Welling's book), and I would like to test them.
Specifically, since the algorithms are really simulations of other scheduling policies using priority scheduling, I am interested in determining the execution magnitudes at which the overhead associated with the simulation becomes neglectable i.e. at what execution magnitudes do the developed schedulers begin to approach the ideal system load before missing deadlines. For example, for the EDF scheduler I am interested in knowing the thread execution magnitudes at which the system load at which a deadline is first missed is 1.

If you're running Java RTS on Solaris, DTrace is able to provide you all the details about the time each thread is running on each processor. You could also download the tool called Thread Scheduling Visualizer (TSV) on Java RTS download page. This tool is using DTrace to record this kind of information and provides a graphical view of the scheduling of the different threads. The TSV bundle also contains a directory called DTraceToolBox with several DTrace scripts. The script named thread_cpu_prio.sh should do something close to what you're looking for.

  • Can This Laptop Be Used For Premier Pro CS6?

Developed an interest in learning to edit video but have become confused in reading all of the posts about what is the true minimum hardware requirement/setup, as compared to what is listed as System Requirements by Adobe.  Probably best to start with my initial goals.
Here is what I was looking at doing as this journey begins:
Purchased Creative Suite 6 Production Premium Classroom in a Book(CIB) after reading a review it would be a better start than Premier Pro CIB, which I plan on getting, if one has no experience in this field.  During research feel that I would like to become a subscriber to the Creative Cloud as there are a number of products I would like to learn and use.  Basically, I am hopeful that I may use my current laptop for the beginning of my education and further down the road look at getting a more powerful system as knowledge/skills/requirements increase.  Initial video I wouild like to work with is that received from family members smart phones and will be looking at purchasing a simple video camera for short interviews and brief presentantions.  Will likely desire uploading some completed projects to the web.
    Current Hardware:
    Laptop:  Asus N53SV
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    CPU: Intel i7-2670QM  2.2GHz Cores=4  Threads=8
    L3 Cache: 6mb
    RAM: 6MB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 1024 MB
    OpenGL: 3.1.0
    Display: 1920 X 1080
Drives: (1) HD, Seagate 500GB @ 7,200 RPM partitioned as C: 186GB with OS and programs,  D: 254GB some documents
                  E: Optical DVD-RW
F: USB 3 connected 2 TB Seagate GoFlex External HD
If this laptop can be used with current hardware, I wouild sincerely appreciate any suggestions for how to best utilize what is available to begin learning Premier Pro CS6.  As I will not have any time schedules that will have to be met I can accept that this may not be the ideal system.  Just hoping it can be a start.
If any further information is required about the laptop please let me know and Thank You for your time with this question.

That's not a bad setup at all to get started with small projects.
We all have different budgets and patience. You may be OK with what you have. And if it seems too sluggish - your rig would be for me , the following would help Premiere Pro performance:
    - increase RAM to 16GB (about $140 per eBay pricing from a seller with high ratings a few minutes ago)
    - add another drive; my favorite choice with your laptop would be a Seagate Momentus 750gb drive installed in a NEWmodeUS.com optical bay caddy (slips into your laptop)

    Jim
Exactly what I have done, and it is great.
You can get the caddy here:

I had this setup for my old HP and have a caddy ready to install for my new Dell Precision as well. You can either get an external house for your DVD drive, or get an external one - they are quite cheap.

  • High volume Printing for GLM?

I understand from various sources GLM can support high volume label output provided the correct enhancements and support packs are installed and configured.  This may include updates to WWI.  We are currently running ECC6 EHP5, SAP_BASIS 10, EHSM 3, WWI 2.7
I would like to get this communities inputs.  Our requirement is to generate >2000 identical labels via GLM.  WWI processing today is long (5+min) and the output is large.  Ideally system would generate 1 label with indication to print 2000 times.  Our labels include barcodes and symbols and can be complex.

    Dear Richard,
The functions of GLM is well explained as Christopher said and using GLM, you can print labels more than 10000 witha  sequential data output. To support such large quanitity of data to be printed on labels, you may need a special printers like the Zebra High volume printer. The WWI server is equipped to print large volume of labels using specific printer plugins.
High volume printers can be used to print print requests with print files that are too large or that contain more than 32,768 labels to be printed. The HVP is designed as a printer driver for Microsoft Windows and is connected to the label printer via a plug-in.
With the HVP, only one page with all static data is sent to the printer. The HVP then receives all of the sequential data via an interface and automatically supplements the sequential data in the printout. The HVP also integrates changing bar codes or texts in the printout.
The Zebra 170Xi4 is one of most popular, industrial-strength printers on the market. This rugged metal unit prints 1-color labels up to 6.6" wide, with 300 dpi print resolution in thermal or thermal transfer mode. Its extra processing power equates to speeds up to 12 inches-per-second. This one is perfect for tough applications including compliance labels, product labels, and shipping labels.

  • Batch split in sales order

    Hi,
I have a requirement as follows regarding the batch determination in sales order.
There is an item with 4 batches of 10 Qty each.
In the sales order the item is entered for 24 Qty, system is proposing 1st batch with 10 qty and the balance 14 is confirmed for a different date as no qty available for the stock as on today on the same batch.
But the stock is available with the other batch items meeting the selection criteria.
So can anyone let me know when the item is entered for 24, system should propose the available batches as 10 batch1, 10 batch2 and 4 for batch3 in sales order.
What is the setting required to be done for this scenario?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Gopinath Naik R

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
But my requirement is exactly the one u have suggested and it goes like this,
    Item A has three batches 00001111, 00002222, 00003333
    00001111  -  12 Qty
    00002222  -  15 Qty
    00003333  -  10 Qty
When a sale order is created for 14, as per the selection criteria if the selection is as per the sequence shown above, then system is first getting the batch 00001111 of 12 Qty and will prompt for 2 qty of stock not available.
But ideally system should first get 00001111 of 12 Qty and then in the next line 00002222 of 2 Qty to meet the requirement.
Please let me know if this was clear and let me know if any possibilities to meet the requirement.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Gopinath Naik R

  • Exchange rate calculation in case of partial payment.

    Dear All,
I have a case in which I need to calculate Exchange rate fluctuation on partial payment.
    Example
    Exchange Rate
    01.04.2011   1USD = 40 INR
    10.04.2011   1USD = 45 INR
    01.05.2011   1USD = 50 INR
    31.05.2011 1USD = 55 INR
    Invoice Date = 01.04.2011 (1USD = 40 INR)
    Purchase Ac Dr  100 USD
       To Vendor               100 USD
Partial Payment on 10.04.2011 of 20 USD
    (10.04.2011   1USD = 45 INR  )
    Vendor Ac Dr  20 USD
        To Bank  Cr 20  USD
Partial Payment on 01.05.2011 of 60 USD
    (10.04.2011   1USD = 50 INR  )
    Vendor Ac Dr  60 USD
        To Bank  Cr 60  USD
On 31.05.2011 (Month end Revaluation FAGL_FG_VAL)
    (31.05.2011   1USD = 55 INR  )
If we do the valuation you will find that system create Fluctuation on the basis of Rate maintain on 31.05.2011 .i.e 1 USD = 55 INR.
Ideally system should generate fluctuation at the time of partial payment only so in that case fluctuation will be less. And this is as per accounting standard also.
( I know partial payment  is open item and system will not calculate exchange fluctuation in that case. But then this will be wrong practice.)
(If I go for residual payment in that case system will clear full invoice amount then and there and create exchange rate fluctuation of full amount which is also wrong).
    Kindly Suggest

    Thanks Atif.
It mean that we have to show excess loss in our report, which is not actual.
SAP might be having some solution on this Issue as we cant show wrong B/S.
This is not a correct practice ,  hope you agree with me.

    Hi Experts,
In CRM 2007 I am creating an Activity(e.g Customer Visit) for a particular day for a particular employee. I am selecting the Option "Whole Day".
When again I am creating another Activity same day and for same employee the ideally system should not allow me to create further activities as I have already scheduled for the whole day but its is allowing me to create as many activities i want irrespective of Time frame.
I want to block overlappped activities created for  same emloyee same time.
Can you please suggest me with your ideas inorder to achieve same???
    Regards

    Hello,
If there is no standard solution you can implement the BADI : CRM_ORDERADM_H_BADI
Here you can see when a new activity is created, and then maybe you can cancel the creation or even replace the new activity by the existing one.
