Ideal Timeout

Hello
what is the ideal timeout for users when no activity is performed while connected to network via wireless
WLC model 5500
AP model 1200 series
users get disconnected every 15mins when machine is Ideal and where do i see this option
thanks
ST

Session timeout is kind of WLAN security feature to frequently check the client authenticity, it forces the client to deauthenticate once it expired so that the client will reauthenticate, it is applicable for L2/L3 security combination and also WLAN with no security.
Wireless client connected AP's Controller will control the user idle & session timer.
In guest anchor scenario both user idle and session timeout is controllerd and managed by Foreign controller. Same applicable In Layer 3 roaming.

  • Aggressively killing idle sessions

    I have an internal problem due to a third party that is causing TCP session resets to not reach my boarder ASA. This is causing me problems on the Internet side as these connections hang around for up to 5min which appears to be the minimum TCP timeout allowed by an ASA for an established TCP session.
    This traffic is being NATed and thus my public IP is bumping into open session limits with a remote party because of this...
    Until I can correctly fix the internal issue (not under my control) is there any way i can kill off these sessions faster? When working correctly these sessions only last 15-30s and there a a lot of them, so the 5min idle timeout limit is killing me.
    As far as I can tell changing dead link detection and xlate timeouts will not work since they happen AFTER the TCP ideal timeout (minimum 5min).
    Any IDEAS? I do have a specific set of source addresses and one specific destination IP and port involved in this issue so making an aggressive change specific to this traffic would be ideal.

    Hi,
    Maybe you can use this document to help with this case?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/configuration/guide/conns_connlimits.html
    Or had you tried this yet?
    You should be able to match certain traffic and apply different timeout rules for that traffic without affecting the global settings
    I quickly configured this on my home ASA and this is the ouput of the "show conn long" with one TCP connection to which the new timeout is applied
    TCP WAN:y.y.y.y/443 (y.y.y.y/443) WLAN:10.0.255.20/57598 (x.x.x.x/57598), flags UIO, idle 27s, uptime 28s, timeout 1m0s, bytes 5635
    You are able to set the timeout even in seconds. A simple test configuration I used to match ALL traffic (which probably isnt the case in your situation)
    class-map CONNS
    match any
    policy-map global_policy
    class inspection_default
    class CONNS
      set connection timeout idle 0:01:00
    Hope this helps

  • WCS reports Radius server port 1813 up and down.

    Hi all,
    Help me on this, please. I use Radius server 172.20.104.253 and .254 port 1812 to authenticate some wireless clients. However, the .254 keep failling, deactivate on port 1813 (this is from the log); resulting some clients can't authenticate. How do I approach this? Why port 1813 fail effect the authentication which is on port 1812 ?
    Thanks.

    jedubois!
    I use Cisco ACS as my radius. For laptops, instead using pre-shared key, I use radius to authenticated the laptop. I create user/password on AD (username is laptop name). On laptop under Intel Proset/Wireless utility, I create a profile with this username. Upon startup, the Proset/Wireless utility authenticates this user this radius server; then gives the laptop wireless connectivity; no pre-shared key needed.
    On the WCS event view; radius server is timeout (activated and deactivated) every 2 seconds (like you said; it is default). But is on port 1813 and I config radius server on WCS on port 1812.
    My questions are what is ideal timeout on each radius server? and why radius server report timeout on port 1813 instead of 1812?
    FYI, I ping -t both of my radius servers. And radius servers are available all the time.
    Regards.

  • BPEL - Handling invocation timeouts and Modifying Partner Link endpoints

    Hi,
    We've built the basic functionality that we need in our BPEL process but are facing 2 specific questions that we are a bit stuck with and would really appreciate some help on..
    1. Our BPEL process calls an external synchronous web service. We have a requirement that if this external web service is unable to respond to our BPEL process within a fixed timespan (say 1 minute), we need to treat this as a timeout and move on. Can anyone suggest what settings are required for this?
    2. The second query is with regards to a likely situation we will face after go-live. If the URL of the external service changes (lets say the service moves from one server to another), ideally we would want to be able to configure this URL change rather than have to modify the WSDL and rebuild the BPEL project in JDev with the new WSDL. Does the BPEL Admin Console provide any such feature? As far as I can recall from a project a couple of years ago, Websphere Process Server did provide such a feature and I'm looking for something similar here but have not found it yet. I am not looking to use dynamic endpoints within our flow - just for an admin feature that would allow me to modify the URL externally via the console.
    Would really appreciate any suggestions on these 2 points..
    Thanks and Regards,
    TB

    In response to your second query -
    a) you don't need to rebuild the BPEL project in Jdev in order to change the wsdl file. If you update the WSDL file with new values for your endpoint simply clear the WSDL cache and the process will pick up the new values in the new instances created from thereon.
    b) or if you dont' want to update the wsdl manually, you can write a piece of java code to change the endpoint URL's for the deployed BPEL processes using the code given here

  • All of a sudden I cannot Forward emails in TB 31.1.2 - I get SMTP timeout error

    And I've tried everything. Shutdown Emsisoft virus prot., turned off firewall, got into Verizon router (btw, I'm going right into the Verizon router-not thru a switch), no port forwarding, even tried to forward an email in Safe mode in Win 8.1 x64. This just happened. I can Write an email OK (i.e., from scratch), but just forwarding, even a small text message won't forward. I even installed an older version of TB. HELP! HELP!
    I either get the SMTP timeout error or I get "check your email and messaging settings." My wife has the exact same setup in TB 31.1.2 but she uses Win 7 x86. -gg

    This has been reported as [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1060901 Bug #1060901]. If you have an account on Bugzilla, please consider voting for that issue.
    Several other people have sent in the same support request as you, noting this happened after they upgraded to version 31.1.
    The exact error message is: XXXX is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail.
    '''This happens in Thunderbird 31.1.0 when your mailing list description includes several words separated by spaces.'''
    Although not ideal, these workarounds should let you use your mailing lists until a proper fix is implemented:
    * While composing an email open the address book and select the list you are trying to send to, highlight all the names in the list and drag them to the To: box. This uses your existing data without modifying it.
    * Replacing the blanks " " between the words in such lists' descriptions with an underscore "_". This requires modifying your mailing list(s) description(s).
    '''About automatic updates'''
    Automatic updates are the default in Windows.
    You can [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-updates?esab=a&s=automatic+updates&r=1&as=s customize such behavior], however, it's under '''Tools > Options > Advanced > Update'''.
    My suggestion would be to set it to '''Check for updates, but let me choose wether to install them.''', specially if you depend on email for critical / important business or personal matters.

  • ODBC Timeout problem.

    I am trying to use the query timeout of the ODBC specification while accessing an Oracle 8i database from within a client code written in MS Visual C++ 6.0.
    I use Oracle's ODBC driver version 8.01.07.810.
    (Microsoft's ODBC driver for Oracle does not implement
    the ODBC Timeout feature).
    During my tests I use a special stored procedure which
    forces my call to wait for a specified number of seconds far much than the amount I specifed in my client code
    (via setting the SQL_ATTR_QUERY_TIMEOUT attribute with
    SQLSetStmtAttr).
    I use synchronous query execution, and ideally my code should block until either a response arrives from the database or timeout ocurs. Unfortunately, my blocked query execution never timeouts and waits until the database responds. "Enable Query Timeout" box is checked witin the ODBC Driver configuration window for the system DSN I use to access the database.
    When I try the same test setting with an MS_SQL Sever instead of an Oracle connection (via the Microsoft's driver manager for SQL Server as expected), everyting works fine and the timeout occurs.
    Is there anyone who has an idea on why this could happen?
    Many thanks in advance.
    A.F.Ates

    Jules,
    Thanks for the pointer. So what does my 'connection string'
    look like with your suggestion in the above example? Would the code
    Dim MM_connPathData_STRING
    MM_connPathData_STRING = "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA
    SOURCE=PATHOLOGY1;UID=user;PWD=pass;DATABASE=pathnet_data"
    be significantly quicker?
    I *have* looked at the database but my problem is there is
    nothing I can do with the underlying structure - I'm just working
    with what I'm given )-; What I need is a way of connecting to the
    data regardless of the response time. What I am giving the users is
    a view on *their* data - essentially, if it's slow then that is
    their problem!!
    Again, thanks for all and any input,
    Simon

  • TimeOut Exceeded in SMQ2- queue Block

    Hi all,
       I am having an issue with my production  PI BOX. Not sure if there is any solution for this.
    I have some interfaces in PI which expects huge payload data.Sometime the messages are getting failed in SMQ2 with error message " Time Limit Exceeded ". This is not happening with one particular interface message.Sometime teh queue got blocked for one interface and then the other day with some other interface.
    When i tried to resend the same messages by selecting Execute LUW option, all of them have gone through fine. But we cannot do this manually everyday. I just wants to know where exactly the time out parameter has been maintained for pipeline processing.
    The messages are getting timed out in receiver grouping pipeline step.
    I have gone through the =  Michal Blog : 3802 about the time out. But nothing helpful on that.
    Could anyone of you help me out here?

    Hi
      We are using JDBC communication channels for all these interfaces. But messages are failing in SXMB_MONI .ideally it means that messages are still in Integration engine. right?
    It doesn't send teh message to adapter engine
    If we increase timeout level  at adapter level, does it really help? If yes how come? Could you please explian?
    Thanks

  • Dynamic timeout for OSB proxy or business services

    The scenario we got here is that we will have multiple synchronous webservices implemented as OSB proxy services. These proxies will then invoke a common "routing" proxy that will determine which other OSB proxy or business services (JMS Request/Response) to call and does the dynamic routing.
    I understand that you can set a timeout at the business service level how long to wait for a response (at least when using the JMS transport). The problem is we got the requirement that the timeout value would be dependent on the role of the caller invoking the frontend webservice (this is done via some kind of lookup to determine the appropriate timeout setting for the invocation).
    Is this possible? I can't seem to find anything exposed in the transport header that allows me to set a timeout value during runtime. This means that the frontend proxy will be waiting for a response depending on the business service timeout setting. Can we implement a timeout in this frontend proxy somehow?
    Stumped right now over this. Thanks in advance for helping out.

    >
    Are there other reasons why you say it's not the most ideal way of development ?
    >
    Versioning binary files is always a pain. You can't compare them, you can't merge them ... Another point, if you put your jar archive with OSB artifacts under version control, you will most probably face issue related to end of line styles (mac, unix, windows).
    However, the most important point is usability. I want to version .proxy and .biz services to see right in IDE that I changed something and I should check that in for the others. I don't want to risk that I forget something. And I also want to see what other users committed, what sources they work on ... You loose all of that by versioning jar file. I would never go this way.

  • Can't get timeout to work as expected for USB VISA

    Hi,
    I'm using VISA in LabVIEW (7.1) to talk to a custom USB device. My program transmits a request and waits for the response (See attached block diagram). The response may take a long time and my program then sits in the Read vi and becomes unresponsive, which is not ideal. I would prefer to set a short timeout and call the Read vi repeatedly, but   my problem is that whatever I set the timeout to,eg, 500ms the VISA read vi waits for about 10 seconds if no response is received.
    Where am I going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Is there a particular reason you don't want to wait for a response?  I'm looking at the picture and it would seem that waiting for a flash write to complete would be extremely important before doing anything else.  (Like stopping the VI for instance).  I'd make a VI with a front panel that says "WAITING...", call it right after the command to flash as a dialog, make the cursor busy, then close the VI nd "un-busy" the cursor when VISA returns a response (with appropriate error handling on timeout, of course).

  • Setting Adapter Timeout

    Hello
    I am having a File/FTP Adapter at my receiving end.I have noted that if a async msg is sent with Exactly Once option and if FTP server is down the message does not gets delivered but as soon as its up it gets delivered.
    I just wanted to know how long Adapter keeps polling to the target directory? Can we set some specific timeout for adapter e.g. if FTP server does not comeup within 15 mins the adapter should timeout and message should fail. The message can then be sent manually.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Rajeev Patkie

    Ashu,
    It is not only the JTA timeout which may cause transaction rollback. If JDBC and BPEL are involved then following timeouts also does matter and ideally all of them will be less than the JTA timeout -
    1. XA connection timeout configured in data-source
    2. Statement timeout configured in data-source
    3. BPEL timeout - set property SyncMaxWaitTime (value in seconds) in the EM console
    4. SOA EJB's timeout
    Now question here should not be that which timeout is actually causing the transaction rollback, rather question should be that why a JDBC call is taking 300 seconds? What processing are you doing which is taking this much time?

  • How do I update a timer's timeout threshold in realtime?

    Hi all.
    I'm trying to implement something that would look like a 'Timer event' but I couldn't find anything in Labview that could be used to trigger a case in an event structure.
    I also can't seem to update the internal timeout threshold of running timers (such as one of the frames in a Time Sequence).  If the user accidently entered a number with 2 extra digits in it, they have to wait all that time for the frame to end.  This breaks one of my personal design rules: Allow the user to update anything in real-time unless it violates the the intended functionality.
    With neither of these approaches available, does this mean I'm still stuck doing a low-level approach polling timestamps?

    thanks for the responses!  I think we are circling the problem without quite landing on it yet...
    Let me describe the simple version of what I'm doing.
    Customer needs a PWM digital signal with period times that could be very long, an hour or more.  Duty cyle and period are two separate user-settable controls.  There is also an enable/disable switch.
    In the old days, I would implement this like an onion.
    First,  polling-wait loops for each half of the PWM cycle..  If the user aborts or changes the PWM timing, the loops just finishes or extends out, depending.  Each half of the PWM cycle is buried in a two-step sequence.
    That two-step sequence sits in a case-statement gated by the Enable switch.  That assembly sits inside an endless While loop.  Everytime one PWM cycle ends, the enable switch is retested and the PWM started again, otherwise nothing happens. (appropriate wait statements to keep polling to a minimum neccessary are scattered around)
    I'm trying to move away from this effective but messy approach.  Instead of polling wait-loops, the timed sequence should be ideal.  However, once a time value is passed to a frame, it can't be changed.  So, for example, once a frame of a time sequence receives a value of one hour, then me the programmer can't provide the user with any way to change the one hour setting once it has engaged. (except for the 'Stop Sequence' VI, but that kills the whole sequence, not just the frame.  Grit teeth, arghhh!)  Ideally this would be a 'timed-sequence Method' driven somewhere else that would update the timer value insidethe frame.  If the method call passed a value of, say, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes had already passed, then the frame would calculate that the time limit for that threshold had been exceeded and the frame would simply timeout.  That would be the ideal.
    OK, can't make a timed sequence work.  How about some other kind of background timer?  Can't do.  Can't find anything like it in Labveiw.  If there was one, I'd make it an Event-driver.  Start a clock somewhere, then tie an Event-structure frame to it, where the action would happen.
    I can still do it the old way, I'm just tring to find a more elegant way using more event-driven techniques.  Besides, lots of nesting requires lots of tedious outward-propagation of abort signals. (and high-resolution polling uses more CPU time)
    thanks,
    Matt

  • "with timeout" when sending Remote Events

    I have a script which accesses a dozen odd remote servers using "eppc://..." Finders and duplicates some files etc... as required by the script. The only problem with this is the script frequently hangs as if a server is not reachable it keeps on trying and fails to report it back as an error.
    I have tried putting "with timeout...." etc.. but nothing seems to work. I have developed a workaround to run a separate script pinging all the machines and if all the machines come back with suitable trip times I allow the script to continue but this is not an ideal workaround - any other suggestions or experience with this problem?

    Here's a copy/paste from a post some time back. Wish I could credit the original author, but I don't have the information.
    This was written for 10.3.9 but may apply in your case also... (easy enough to revert if it doesn't help)
    Jeff
    So there is an issue with OS X Server, where OS X tells SquirrelMail that SSL is enabled, even when its not. This causes some strange problems, like when you send an email, in Safari the mail will send but you won't be forwarded back to the inbox. In FireFox, the mail is sent but you get some strange error -12281. Well the solution (hack) to this problem is to make SquirrelMail always use non SSL. The other solution is to actually configure and USE SSL. But for the hack:
    Hack Away...
    1) Open up this file
/usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/strings.php
    2) Go to line 239 in the file. It should be a blank line, below it should be:
/* Get the hostname from the Host header or server config. */
    3) Add the following to the blank line:
$proto = 'http://';
    Thats it. That does it, just save and reload and SquirrelMail should now work properly. Alternativly, instead of adding that bit of code, you can instead comment out the block above line 239, so that line 216 is the last code before 239. That will also work.
    This hack is done with 10.3.9 and SM 1.4.4. Other versions might have differnet results.

  • JOptionPane Timeout

    Can anyone provide a code snippet showing how to have a JOptionPane timeout if the user doesn't respond after a specified period? I assume this would be done via a thread or timer, but can't figure out how to make it work.

    The Javadoc for JOptionPane shows how to create and use an instance of JOptionPane rather than the static utility methods.
    If you use that, then all you'd need to do is hide the dialog when the time's up...
    final JDialog dialog = pane.createDialog(...);
    Thread hideThread = new Thread() {
      public void run() {
        try {
          Thread.sleep(30000);
          dialog.hide();
        catch(InterrupedException e) {
    hideThread.start();
    dialog.show();
    ...I've not tested this at all!
    This isn't exactly an ideal solution - especially if the dialog gets reused. Strictly speaking, you shouldn't call dialog.hide on a thread other than the EDT either. You may also find that using a Timer is easier. Hopefully this will be enough to get you moving in the right direction, though.
    Hope this helps.

  • How does inactive connection timeout attribute in weblogic works ?

    Lets say If there is a connection leakage in my application running on weblogic server 10.3.4 and I want to regain the unclosed connection.
    After going through some documentation I found out that setting inactive connection timeout to a positive value can fix this issue.
    With setting the above attribute will the weblogic server close any connection object which is inactive for specified number of seconds or it acts on only
    those connection objects which has lost all the references to it ?
    demonstrating the query by an example ,
    Lets say I have two connection objects con1 & con2 taken from a defined datasource in the weblogic.
    the inactive timeout has been set to 10 seconds.
    In a given thread lets say con1 does some db operation and then after being done, con2 is used for another db operation for greater than 10 seconds.
    Will the object con1 be still available for db operation or we need to take a fresh connection from the pool ?
    Thanks,
    Tarique
    Edited by: user779368 on 30-May-2011 06:29

    Any connection that has been reserved by an application, and not used for longer than
    the inactive timeout limit, will be taken back by the pool. All it's sub-objects will be closed etc.
    In your case, you would lose con1 while con2 was being used. Ideally, you would get
    any/either of those connections at the instant you really need it. Then, ideally use it
    till you can close it. But if you are doing transactions or a job that need connections,
    but can't avoid having them idle for X seconds, then set your inactive timeout larger than X.
