IdeaPad S10-3 Linux Wake-up from stan-by problem

can not get wake up my IdeaPad from Stand-by
Bios v.37
Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10 all affected. Other versions same.
Netbook goes to standby and after I press any button HDD and cooler starts but nothing else happen, screen remains off.
I have waited several times for 10-15 minutes - nothing happened.
After hard-reset no records in the log is found, it means that no HDD activity starting.
Is there any solution?
Also button to switch radio on/off is not working.

It looks like Lenovo technitions do not know how to fiix it?
May be this is due to bad ACPI tables programming by Lenovo?

  • Found: Intel Turbo Memory causing T61 wake-up from sleep / standby problems

This is related to my earlier post, but I've found a new cause and thought to post a new message to make it easier for others to find it if they are running into similar problems.
    My system
    T61 model 7662-CTO (built July 2007)
    Vista Business w/ SP1
Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (driver version:  7.15.11.7597)
Intel Turbo Memory (driver version: 1.7.0.1029)
Intel Wireless card 4965AGN (driver version: 11.5.0.36)
    Thinkpad BIOS (version 7LETC4WW,  2.24)
no card reader or integrated webcam
I was having problems with Vista failing to wake-up after being put into sleep (or standby) mode. Instead of returning to the desktop, the system immediately crashes and reboots. After many hours, I reformatted the drive and re-installed Vista (business edition). Before running the Lenovo system update, I installed Vista Service Pack 1, then I ran Windows Update and installed any remaining update hotfixes. (I never delayed restarting the machine when prompted)
I incrementally began installing Lenovo drivers, and after the Power Management driver determined that hibernate was working.
The 'sleep' option was unavailable until I installed the Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M drivers. Then sleep worked!
Note: Intel Turbo Memory driver was uninstalled at this time.
After all other lenovo programs were installed, I installed the driver for the Intel Turbo Memory. I put the computer to sleep, and it crashed/rebooted upon being woken up.
I uninstalled the Turbo Memory driver from the Device Manager, and normal sleep -> wakeup function resumed.
Because the sleep / standby feature requires the Nvidia Quadro drivers, and the Vista OS and the Intel Turbo Memory must properly work together for the turbo memory to work, I imagine the failure involves some driver mismatch between these three. I cannot recall now whether this issue was present when I first received the machine over a year ago (pre-installed Vista Ultimate, service pack 1 not even out yet). Perhaps Vista SP1 made some change that the Turbo Memory driver doesn't like, particularly with the Nvidia Quadro drivers in the mix too.
Just FYI for anyone interested or curious.

Remove the two aftermarket memory modules and observe the results.

  • How do I install software from cd-rom onto my IdeaPad S10?

I just received my IdeaPad S10.  How do I install software from a cd-rom onto it?  I tried putting my cd-rom in my regular laptop and copying it onto a flash drive and then copying it to the IdeaPad.  The installation starts, then I get a message that installation has stopped because the installation has been corrupted.  Any easy ways to install software?

    Here's what you can do.
Download virtual Clone drive (freeware) from here http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html  install it on your S10.
Now on your destop, make a backup ISO of your software CD or DVD.
I use this http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm it integrates with explorer on the right click menu. There are other solutions also.
Once your ISO is created you can copy it to your S10 via network, usb key, etc, and mount it as a drive letter with Virtual CLone drive.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lenovo Ideapad S10

I thought I may as well start a s10 thread as there seems to be a thread for every other netbook.  I just received mine and I will post anything relevant to the s10 on arch here.  Perhaps others have arch on s10 comments.

    Put something like

[b]EDIT:  This seems to only be necessary in flux for whatever reason.  I'm back to my normal dwm and this messed the keybinds up, so I'll remove them from this thread until I do some further experimenting.
I also found that 866 what the best framebuffer resolution the same way you did
Instead of configuring in xorg.conf, I used hotplugging and an excerpt from a forum post to get the mousepad working correctly.  I still have no xorg.conf.  I will edit this post with the fdi file I used for the trackpad when I have my s10 with me.
I've tested the webcam, the linux-uvc-svn-all package in the aur works fine for me.  The mic on the other hand looks like it needs a newer version of alsa -- http://www.linlap.com/wiki/lenovo+ideapad+s10 reports that .18a worked in ubuntu and the current package available in arch is .18.  Alsa has release .19 and I quickly rebuilt the package to see if it would fix my problem but I had no luck.  I probably need to rebuild more packages as well.
I have not tested the card reader but I plan on testing that when I get home tonight.

  • How to change win 7 k to english in my ideapad s10-3

recently i bought a lenovo ideapad s10-3 netbook from korea( but  i am not korean originally ), it is all good but there is created one problem for me that while i first opened it, at that time i all changed its language and place to us english and us, but it didn't appear in english when it went inside it came in korean language which  i don't understand  , so plzzzz help me
    1. how to change it in english version?
    2. is it possible to change without going to its service centre?
    3. should i pay money for it?
    4. can i do it directly from internet?
    5. how long does it take?
plz reply me as soon as possible , i'm unable to use my ideapad s10-3 netbook until you help me

unless you have the ultimate and enterprise version of the win 7, then you can't change the menu system language,  without having to purchase an English edition of the win 7 OS.
You will have to purchase a separate retail copy of Win 7 to install on your ideapad.

  • Thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.

thunderbolt ethernet not working when computer wake up from sleep.
it will not happen in Mountain loin.

I had this problem on SL and on Lion as well, and it occures for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
In fact the internet connection was not broken as I could ping the destination usin the IP (not DNS name).
In this case the problem was related to mDNSResponder task which handles all dns queries.
It was the most frequent problem in my day to day work with SL and now Lion. It was never fixed by any patch from Apple. I tried almost all voodoo including fresh install, all possible config changes - no solution.
The only version with no problems related to network was 10.5.8. All the other versions had issues of different kind (WiFi instability (lost signal), DNS problems (for wireless and wired connection) sometimes associated with machine sleep and wake up and sometimes with no reason.
QUESTION: Is your problem independent of the access point / router you connect to.
I must say networking was (and still is) the weakest part, besides the other OS X weaknesses I experienced during 4 years of OS X usage.
No problems in the same network with Linux or Windows beeing ran natively on my iMac So hardware is OK.
Software is of poor quality. Not much more to say in this matter.
I found a very interesting article dated 1996 about programming which I think is still valid.
    Link to the article: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/06/writestuff.html

Software is everything. It also s***s.

i need to enable it every time by hand.
Thing thing appeared after migration to Windows 7. Before, i used WinXp and that worked fine.
I setup all recommended software via SystemUpdate

On T400s this happend, if you try Linux to install and after that you install Windows 7. I have test Ubuntu (boot from LiveCD) and after that i had exactly sam eproblem. Solution was to reset BIOS to default values.

  • Ideapad S10-3 black screen, won't boot

    Hello, every body.
I have a lenovo ideapad s10-3. Right now it is black screen and won't boot, but power works.
I disassembled it, and just left CPU, graphics card, and RAM. Power works, and fan starts rotating and stops. I leave it running, i can feel CPU and Graphics Card hot.
Before this problem(black screen and won't boot) happened. sometime it can boot, somtimes it does not and black screen. Sometime after trying several time (force ti shutdown, restart power on), it boots and goes to be normal. Right now it won't work anymore.
At the left-bottom of laptop, there are 4 flash lights, the former 3 are working fine, and the last (4th. there is small arrow (two sides) in the center of cylinder, what does it mean?) does not flash. If it flashes fine, the computer works well, if not, won't work.
I clean the RAM fingerpin, won't work. Tried to connect with external screen, won't work. Remove BIOS battery, won't work. I tried another Hard Drive and RAM seperately, it does not work.
I did try this solution (How to fix Graphics Card in Lenovo R61 ), but it does not work for my computer.
I can press power button to force the laptop shut down, it looks like the motherboard has no problem
What is going on my laptop. Please help me of this trouble. Thanks a lot.
    Happy Christmas and New Year.

    Hi,
    1) Yeah, somehow OS X has been messed up enough that it can't finish loading. What else have you done with it lately? When I went through my machine fiddling with Quicktime in the system Library folders, I ended up where you are.
    2) I don't think you can fix it from the OF prompt. I had a daily backup of my drive, and so I was able to boot off of that. You can boot back into OS 9 though, by holding down the Option key after a cold boot's chime.
    4) I'd say it's worth fixing. Beats plunking down $500 or more on a new machine.

  • Cannot download the Bluetooth Driver for the IdeaPad S10

I am building a new Windows XP Pro image for our S10s and I cannot download the Bluetooth Driver from http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/Drivers/list.aspx?CategoryID=924

  • IdeaPad S10-3 broken hinge

The right plastic hinge of my S10-3 laptop broke off for no reason. I always close my netbook properly and always take good care of it. This netbook has been with me for almost 2 years already. What would happen if I didn't repair my laptop right away? Is there a way to repair it without spending too much, I mean it's just a hinge. I read from other forums that repairing that part could cost approximately $300.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi unbeatable.
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you hear squeaky sound when you open your LCD screen or you feel that the left / right hinges are getting loose then I recommend you have it serviced as it can damage the bottom platic if left unrepaired.
    You can get spare here:
Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 Left and Right Hinge Set
And you can follow this diassembly guide or this video as a reference. If you're not comfortable opening the laptop, you can have it service at a local computer repair store.
    Note:
Use ESD protection and be careful in diassembling your PC as it has parts that are easily breakable.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ideapad S205 doesn't support booting from SDHC-Card

    Hello,
I have the Ideapad S205 and  I cannot boot from a SDHC-Card (Ubuntu Linux) with the internal cardreader. With an external card reader  I can boot from the SDHC-Card.
Is there any solution or maybe a BIOS-Upgrade?
    Thanks
    Simon

when you see lenovo logo, press f12 to set bios order.
also, check for bios booting option. if there's not option, i don't think s205 supports booting from sdhc, but apparently it supports usb boot.

  • Ideapad S10-3 Webcam Problem with Windows XP

    Hi folks,
I own a Ideapad S10-3 shipped with Windows 7 Starter.
Because Windows XP is much faster on this machine, I installed Windows XP Professional SP3.
After Installation I downloaded all S10-3 Windows XP drivers available at the lenovo site for S10-3.
No installations problems so far, the webcam was working and recognized as Lenovo EasyCamera
Vendor ID: 5986 Product ID: 0190 Rev: 1409. Driver Provider is displayed as "Vimicro"
After a few days using the netbook, one day i started windows and the new hardware found wizard started and recognized a new USB Video device and installed the UVC driver from Windows. This "new" device has Vendor ID: 0ac8 and Product ID: 3450 Rev: 0130. The old webcam with the old IDs isnt shown anymore in the device manager. (only if you set var "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" and enable "show hidden devices")
When i try to use the webcam the light beside the webcam turns on, but no picture is displayed. No matter which program i try, the webcam isnt working anymore.
Because of the different device ID it isnt possible to install the lenovo webcam driver, but basically the webcam should work with the UVC driver provided by windows. I find it totaly strange that the webcam is showing up suddenly with a different device id.
When windows is running theres an process VM322_STI.exe running, its part of the Webcam driver and gets installed.
This is the second S10-3 Netbook on which i have this problem, i returned the first one because of this problem.
Is someone here, who is also using the S10-3 with XP or has an similar problem ?
EDIT: I read about the firmware update problems/issues with the old S10 models, but theres no Firmware on the S10-3 website i think, so i didn't think that i accidently flashed a wrong firmware to this webcam. I only used the Device manager to install the webcam driver. Or is it possible that the firmware is included in the driver package?
    regards
    RaiHei

IT's working again... very strange ... the driver on the lenovo site for this webcam seems faulty, i uninstalled it, and after the reboot the old cam with the old device id is back in the device manager ... i now use the uvc driver and NEVER install the lenovo driver again... just because of the driver i returned my first s10-3 .
Also very interersting: After the cam didnt work in Windows XP anymore, i recovered the original Win7Starter from an complete hdd image (which i made before installing win XP) and in Win7 the cam wasn't working too. Because of that i never thought that it was a driver problem, because the driver and windows xp was deleted when i recovered the original win7.
so my recommendation: DO NOT install the lenovo driver, let Windows XP use its own UVC driver.

  • Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647 bios update failure, recovery possible?

I have downloaded and installed the  latest bios version 37 (2acn37ww.exe).
The flashing tool indicated success and has stored a backup of the old bios.
But, after reboot the screen stays black.
In this forum similar problems have been discussed, but none of the presented procedures did help.
Has anyone successfully recovered the bios of an Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647?
If there is a solution to the problem, please advice me.
    Greetings from Germany

    Hi and welcome,,
did you upgrade memory ? If you did .. upgrade ... insert original memory .. try to start your s10-3 machine
..press F2 to access bios, then press F9 and load default settings in order to get machine works properly after new bios update.  Lenovo cannot guarantee compatibilty with all memory manufacturers and modules..
...shut down and re-insert mem upgrade ...try to start ...
if you did no memory upgrade ...
    call your local service

  • Cannot upgrade from 6.02 to 7.0 on linux (browser direct from firefox)

I understand that you launched 7.0 yesterday. I updated my windows firefox ok, but when I try to update the firefox on my debian linux (firefox directly from Mozilla.com - not any linux distribution) then - Help-About Mozilla Firefox - says Firefox 6.0.2 is up to date.
How can I update, or will it just take some more time for your linux depo to be upgraded to 7.0?

We actually pulled back the update after spotting a potential problem that affects some users running certain add-ons. We'll resume with the update to 7.0.1 shortly, but if you really want to install right away, you can still get 7.0 directly from mozilla.org. Hope this helps.
