IdeaPad S400 Touch Windows 8 reinstall

Hello to all.  This is my first post on this forum.  I bought a IdeaPad S400 Touch several months ago (October) and one of the first things I did was create a backup image on an external hard drive using the tool in Windows 8.  I then wiped the hard drive completely in order to install Ubuntu.  I was going to put Windows 8 back ont he machine and have the two running side by side.  However, I have not been able to reinstall Windows 8.  I physically took the hard drive out of the laptop and completely erased it using Disk Utility on my Mac, making sure that the disk was reformatted as MS-DOS.  I also created a separate partition, named Lenovo, of 20GB that contains the backup files from my original backup.  Still, using OneKey recovery doesn't work, and I am unable to reisntall Windows 8.  Please , would someone tell me what I am doing wrong and if there is any way to fix this mess I have created?  I will say things were so much easier back in the good old days when PCs shipped with recovery media.  Thanks.

Hi Robert,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that the OKR (One Key Recovery) is not working as expected in your S400 touch Laptop, let me inform you that once the partition structure HDD (Hard Disk Drive) gets modified the hard disk recovery corrupts, if you have created the recovery media then you can use them and restore the Operating System. Please try running OneKey Recovery from hard disk, power off the laptop then press Novo button instead of pressing power button and check if it works and if OKR does not work. I suggest you to contact our Technical Support Team to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
Do post us back for further queries.

    Windows 8.1
Hello ive recently made a factory reset on windows 8.1, everything worked ok and I decided to update and shutdown. Today i turned on the machine everything seemed ok and proceed to shutdown again, and when I come back 2 hours later I cannot power on the machine there is no indication that theres power in the system nothing boots up no sounds, no leds nothing. I tried changing ac outlets, removing the battery, doing a discharge pressing the power button, and tried using the Onekey Recovery button on the side of the power button. I have no idea what went wrong, im around machines all the time and where this laptop  is I have other computers aside. Im not sure if i need to remove the bios battery or what step should i take.
    Thanks in Advanced.

Can you try changing the power plan on your system to a High Performance Settings,
Also check the Advanced power settings and make sure that the Maximum  Processor start and minimum are set the same with the Plugged in.
    Let me know your settings,
    Cheers!

  • Ideapad s400 touch bios or other hidden power management while on battery? or battery just weak?

    Hi,
I have problems with performance when unplugging my ideapad s400 touch, and it does not seem to be related to windows or intel graphics power settings.
Example, while plugged in with full battery (not charging), I can play Skyrim at 600x800 with 28-30 fps (all shadows turned off and with reduced textures, in case you are wondering how that is possible)
But when I unplug, or the computer is charging, the game will be only barely playable at  480x640 with 18-26 fps (besides res. of course same settings).
In both cases, the intel graphics options and in the Lenovo Energy Management is set to the high/max performance settings.
So I am wondering if there are some hidden Bios power management or some other hidden power management going on, when it is unplugged or charging?
Or if simply the battery can not deliver the same juice as when it is plugged in?
    Thanks for any help,
    L

  • Ideapad S400 Touch - HDMI to VGA problem

    Hi,
I need to connect Ideapad S400 Touch to projector which has only VGA input. Therefore, I've bought such converter:
    http://www.amazon.com/Black-Input-Adapter-Converter-Laptop/dp/B007KFVQXI/ref=pd_sim_e_4
Unfortunately, whatever I connect through it (projector, tv, PC monitor) I always have no signal...
I tried HDMI direct connection toTV - works
I tried HDMI to DVI converter and connect to PC monitor - works
but when I use HDMI to VGA like one mentioned above - always "no signal"
Please help. I bought this laptop and now find it useless as I present on beamers very often and am completly stacked now...
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    hi ro174748,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The connection you need is a active coverter.
Passive connection just passes the signal and relay the signal without converting it.
Active connection converts the signal and relay it to the other end.
HDMI send / recieve digital Signal while VGA send / recieve analog
Your corrent covertion will not work if the device cannot recieve digital signals through VGA.
You will need an active converter such as this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812400359
HDMI to DVI operates with Digital signal so no covertion needed, that's why it worked.
Here is a simple discussion about this issue.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

    HOLA!

  • IdeaPad S415 touch Windows 8.1 Update for Wireless Card Lenovo Part #20200437

I bought this wireless/bluetooth card for my Ideapad S415T and the only drivers for it were for Windows 7.  One solution I found said to run the Win 7 drivers in compatibility mode.  I wasn't satisfied with doing that so I hunted for the updated drivers for Win 8.1 and found them.  I have provided the link at the bottom of this page.
(Make sure you are plugged into your router by an ethernet cable to access internet)
    1. When you get to the page scroll down until you see the blue links click on either the link for Win 8.1 32 or 64 bit.  If you are not sure which version of Windows you have, go to your desktop open Control Panel, click on System and Security, find System and click on it. Under the System heading on this page you will find if you are 32 or 64 bit. Keep this window open as you will need it in step 3.
    2. Once you have downloaded the Zip file go to where it is in Downloads under This PC.  Right click on the folder file, which has a zipper on it, highlight Extract All.  This will undo the zip file into a separate file that is open.  Leave it in the download folder.
    3. Go back to your desktop. On the left hand side of the window you left open in step 1 look for Device Manager click on this.  Give it a minute as it opens the list.  If you just installed this piece of hardware it may show up under Other Network and will have a yellow triangle on it with an exclamation mark in it.
    4. Right click on it and highlight Update Driver Software.  This will open a new window click on Browse This Computer.  If this is an exsisting piece of hardware it can be found under Network Adapters.  Look for Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter follow the instructions as for Other Network
    4. Once the new window opens up click on the Browse button.  This will bring up a new message box.  Highlight the Downloads folder.  At the bottom of the new message window click Open. This will populate the Browse bar.
    5.  Make sure Include Subfolders is checked (it should be by default), click next and it should find the drivers.  Follow the directions if any come up after that, and voila!  Your wireless should work.

If you think I may have missed something in the steps just reply to this post either what I missed or that you are having trouble with it.  Good luck

Can you be more specific with the below, as I can't make sense of what you're referring to?  I don't know what element size is at all, or where to change it.  And, I don't know what you mean by unchecking a checkbox in the device manager as there are no checkboxes.  More guidance and specifics would be appreciated.
    * Change the element size back to recover from blurry text
    * Go to device manager and uncheck that checkbox for the first of the USB devices in HID so that the touchscreen does always react on the first touch (this setting has been lost during the update process)

  • Frequent and unpredictable BSOD Ideapad S510p Touch Windows 8.1 64 bit

HELP! My Ideapad S510p has accrued over 10 BSODs over the past 2 weeks. It is totally random, not due to putting it in sleep mode, and apparently is caused by a failure in the ntoskrnl.exe and usbehci.sys.
I have tried looking for malfunctioning devices, and disabled bluetooth as it was apparently not working.
I also installed several new drivers.
This solved nothing, and I am at a loss of what to do entirely.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm hoping that I can do something to solve it, because if not, I am most definitely going to consider a new computer (not a Lenovo!) to replace this 4-month old disappointment.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Actually, I solved this issue myself after a while.
I induced a system restore prior to the date when I began to experience this error.
It then happened once more, so I went to the "PC Settings" menu and selected "Update and recovery".
There were apparently updates to be installed, so I clicked "More details/information", and found that there were 3 Intel-related drivers that were listed, but for some reason, Windows 8 didn't automatically install them, so I checked each one of them and proceeded to install them and it has been smooth sailing for me ever since that.
    SO.
A piece of advice for all those who have experienced the issue I detailed in my former post:
Check what updates need to be installed on your computer in the "PC Settings" app thing, and see if there are any driver-realted updates (like for your graphics card, especially).

    Hi LenBlazer,
I did and they seem fine.
I contacted Lenovo customer service this afternoon and they have advised me to send my machine to them. They also mentioned that they have recently been receiving same complain from other users as well and this seems to be caused by recent windows upgrades.
I agree that the next thing that you should do is to send the unit to Lenovo for repair. Just be sure that you have backup all your files and data since Lenovo might restore the drive to factory condition. Use one Key recovery and chose a location that can accomodate the backup image files.

  • Ideapad S400 Touch cursor acting erractically

I bought my laptop back in August (so it still has warranty plus Geeksquad coverage). In the past few months, the cursor has been jumping around and clicking on various windows even when I'm not sitting at the computer. I've tried restarting, tried re-installing the latest Synaptic and Energy drivers as recommended by customer support. I've taken it to GeekSquad and they just had me do a system restore back to factory status and immediately after doing that, the cursor was acting up again. I use my computer everyday at work and really don't want to send it in for who knows how long. Any suggestions? I'm using Windows 8.1

    hi caity13,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Try Draining the system of charge as a possible static charge causing this
Remove the Ac adapter and Remove the Battery
Hold the power button down for 15sec.
Reconnect just the AC adapter and try.
Also Reconnect just the Battery and try.
If the problem showed up right after a factory Recovery then that takes SW issues out of it.
You might need to have the System serviced.

  • Cloning HDD to SSD on IdeaPad S210 Touch Windows 8.1

    Hello to all!!
I recently buy a SSD Transcend SSD340 to my notebook, I did dowload a cloning software from trascend web page, but, did not work, I tryied AOMEI but this was not recognizing the notebook's HDD, finally I download free for home users:
    DriveClone ® 10.02
    http://www.farstone.com/software/drive-clone.php
and worked, it recognized the notebook HDD and SDD conected via USB, notebook's HDD is 500GB size and SSD is 256GB, so I had to back up certaily data to make sure HDD clone to SSD and fit.
now I need to install it..
    Cheers!!

You could try using CloneZilla as described here.
I have only used CloneZilla, but I personally haven't had any issues with it as of yet.
What is the exact model and product number of the notebook?
NOTE: Do not provide the serial number.

  • Does the ideapad S400 touch has Bluetooth device?

    Hello,
I'm trying to instll my new bluetooth mouse and I found out there is no bluetooth driver installed.
After downloading and installing it says it cannot find any bluetooth device.
I tried to google it but no spec website says a word about it, and it sounds strange that such a new laptop won't have bluetooth function.
    does it has one?
If so could you please help me make the driver to work?
    Thanks.

  • IdeaPad U310 touch: Can no longer enter bios after updating to latest version

I flashed to the latest U310 bios (http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/65cn99ww.exe). I switched to "legacy boot mode" (from UEFI), in an attempt to workaround a driver issue. Now, I'm no longer able to enter BIOS whatsoever. There are plenty of forum posts by many users hitting the same or similar issues on U310/U410/U330 and similar ideapad products. But the resolutions where they exists are either invalid, or involve flashing to 65cn99ww.exe, which is not possible.
    [Environment]
Lenovo IdeaPad U310 touch, Windows 8 (also tried Windows 8.1)
    [What I did]
Flashed BIOS using official Lenovo bits (65cn99ww.exe). No errors occured
Enter BIOS afterwards and change to legacy boot mode (from UEFI)
    [Problem]
Cannot enter BIOS to view or change any settings.
    [Debugging]
Try to enter BIOS by key button sequence.
    1. Tried the following combinations during bootup: F2, Fn+Fn, F10, Fn+F10, F1, Fn+F1, 'B', 'N', Fn+'B', Fn+'N', Delete, Esc.
==> No change in behaviour. I tried each many times in case the timing is important.
    2. Boot by Novo button. This brings up a menu, which includes an entry to enter BIOS. However, choosing that menu entry boots to Windows
    3. Reboot to UEFI firmware settings from Windows (Settings/General/Advanced/UEFI). I can choose to boot to UEFI settings, but ultimately, just boots to Windows 8.
    4. Try to reflash BIOS. Fails with error 182: Version less than or equal. So reflash fails
    5. Try to reflash old BIOS. Flashing fails
    6. Unplug battery from motherboard for 1 minute. No difference in behavior
    7. Boot with SATA disconnected.
    8. Try various flashing options and alternate ways to flash. Not successful
    [Conclusion - BIOS is faulty]
I think this problem can be solved easily with a slightly newer variant of the BIOS being officially released by Lenovo. If someone from Lenovo is reading, can you please open an internal case on this.
Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions from the community. Does anyone know how I can hex edit the bios version #.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    All,
When I navigate to the U310T (touch) on the support site, I'm not finding a BIOS update.
It may be that we have removed it.  The U310 (non-touch) does still show BIOS 65 available here for Windows 8/8.1 and BIOS 21 on the same page for Windows 7.
Is it possible that you have a touch model and applied the non-touch BIOS?
