IdeaPad S415 touch Windows 8.1 Update for Wireless Card Lenovo Part #20200437

I bought this wireless/bluetooth card for my Ideapad S415T and the only drivers for it were for Windows 7.  One solution I found said to run the Win 7 drivers in compatibility mode.  I wasn't satisfied with doing that so I hunted for the updated drivers for Win 8.1 and found them.  I have provided the link at the bottom of this page.
(Make sure you are plugged into your router by an ethernet cable to access internet)
1. When you get to the page scroll down until you see the blue links click on either the link for Win 8.1 32 or 64 bit.  If you are not sure which version of Windows you have, go to your desktop open Control Panel, click on System and Security, find System and click on it. Under the System heading on this page you will find if you are 32 or 64 bit. Keep this window open as you will need it in step 3.
2. Once you have downloaded the Zip file go to where it is in Downloads under This PC.  Right click on the folder file, which has a zipper on it, highlight Extract All.  This will undo the zip file into a separate file that is open.  Leave it in the download folder.
3. Go back to your desktop. On the left hand side of the window you left open in step 1 look for Device Manager click on this.  Give it a minute as it opens the list.  If you just installed this piece of hardware it may show up under Other Network and will have a yellow triangle on it with an exclamation mark in it.
4. Right click on it and highlight Update Driver Software.  This will open a new window click on Browse This Computer.  If this is an exsisting piece of hardware it can be found under Network Adapters.  Look for Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter follow the instructions as for Other Network
4. Once the new window opens up click on the Browse button.  This will bring up a new message box.  Highlight the Downloads folder.  At the bottom of the new message window click Open. This will populate the Browse bar.
5.  Make sure Include Subfolders is checked (it should be by default), click next and it should find the drivers.  Follow the directions if any come up after that, and voila!  Your wireless should work.

If you think I may have missed something in the steps just reply to this post either what I missed or that you are having trouble with it.  Good luck

Can you be more specific with the below, as I can't make sense of what you're referring to?  I don't know what element size is at all, or where to change it.  And, I don't know what you mean by unchecking a checkbox in the device manager as there are no checkboxes.  More guidance and specifics would be appreciated.
* Change the element size back to recover from blurry text
* Go to device manager and uncheck that checkbox for the first of the USB devices in HID so that the touchscreen does always react on the first touch (this setting has been lost during the update process)

  • IdeaPad S400 Touch Windows 8 reinstall

Hello to all.  This is my first post on this forum.  I bought a IdeaPad S400 Touch several months ago (October) and one of the first things I did was create a backup image on an external hard drive using the tool in Windows 8.  I then wiped the hard drive completely in order to install Ubuntu.  I was going to put Windows 8 back ont he machine and have the two running side by side.  However, I have not been able to reinstall Windows 8.  I physically took the hard drive out of the laptop and completely erased it using Disk Utility on my Mac, making sure that the disk was reformatted as MS-DOS.  I also created a separate partition, named Lenovo, of 20GB that contains the backup files from my original backup.  Still, using OneKey recovery doesn't work, and I am unable to reisntall Windows 8.  Please , would someone tell me what I am doing wrong and if there is any way to fix this mess I have created?  I will say things were so much easier back in the good old days when PCs shipped with recovery media.  Thanks.

    Hi Robert,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that the OKR (One Key Recovery) is not working as expected in your S400 touch Laptop, let me inform you that once the partition structure HDD (Hard Disk Drive) gets modified the hard disk recovery corrupts, if you have created the recovery media then you can use them and restore the Operating System. Please try running OneKey Recovery from hard disk, power off the laptop then press Novo button instead of pressing power button and check if it works and if OKR does not work. I suggest you to contact our Technical Support Team to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

  • Windows 8.1 update for Icon?

I too am wondering when the update for the Icon will be released?  I spoke with a tech rep from Windows and they said it has been released to all carriers and that it's up to the carriers to as to how and when they push out the update.  Verizon, is there any information you could provide.  Thanks.

Finally, got the Denim release on Friday the 13th (Feb),
    (Is there irony here?)
OK... I was anxious and a bit miffed at having to wait.  Yes, I'm glad I didn't switch.
Cortana is neat (we're still getting acquainted), the Calendar is better, and the shortcut to action list (Swipe from very top of screen down) give immediate access to Airplane mode, Wireless, Bluetooth, etc. is spectacular.
It is near to getting a new phone.
    NOTE:
I am adding this note for those who get antsy and try the update from a moving car....
First: It will do a pre-update.  It takes two minutes, and another two minutes to install.
Second: You then "check updates" again.  The main update should be done when you DON'T need your phone, on a good wireless connection.
After the upload, (5 or 10 min. for me), the installation process took about 1/2 hour.   You cannot use your phone during that time.  It is the main OS update. (Like trying to use Windows, while installing Windows on a PC).  You will only break something if you try.
Once that is done play and enjoy.  You should go through the tips app that also gets loaded.  There are enhancements that are really neat, but not of the kind I would have stumbled upon myself. (Your Volume key causes a V (down arrow) to appear in the upper right corner of the main screen (top status bar).  Tap it and you have two sliders to control phone volume and App volume.  There's more...  Enhanced camera, better performance with One Note...  quicker upload from One Drive... So far so good.

  • Software updates for wrong card?

My system profiler lists my graphics chipset model as NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 yet software update is telling me to download the firmware update for the ATI Radeon HD 4850. I'm confused. Which card do I have? Can't find a reference to the ATI card anywhere on my 24" 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac and can't believe it'd install if it were the wrong one but.........

That link (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237) certainly appears to suggest that the Firmware update might apply to most early 2009 iMacs.
However the release notes for the update state:-
"This update fixes intermittent system freeze issues for iMac computers with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics and fixes wake-from-sleep issues in Boot Camp."
    They also state:-
"After the firmware is successfully applied to your Mac, your Boot ROM Version will be:

    IM91.008D.B08"
The release notes therefore seem to point just to those machines with the Radeon card which unfortunately was the cause of the confusion in the first place.
I think that Apple needs to issue a definitive answer by way of amending the Software Update and Stand Alone download release notes that clears up the issue once and for all Also, if appropriate, they should stop the update appearing in Software Update on iMacs without the Radeon HD4850 graphics card.

  • Windows 7 and the F5D7000 wireless card question

Im pretty sure that the F5D7000 card doesnt work with windows 7... can i get around that, i can use a cable either? and where can i tell Microsoft about that?

    WORKS FOR ME 100%.
I am so excited to confirm this way will work for Belkin Wireless G Desktop F5D7000 card v.7000 au using Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. Thanks a lot for sharing this while I could not think that i can use the new card (but very old version after coming back home
i found - it was just $10 paid). All done now. I am very happy.
    James
    HEY nwest,
Here is a possible solution for Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card v7000 using Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.  Not sure if it will work for other versions of Win7 64bit, but its possible.  Do not get worried by all the steps, its not that difficult, its just
explained in detail for non "tech savy" people.  Here are steps:
    1.  Go to Belkin Website and download Windows VISTA 64bit drivers for F5D7000 v7000.  Filename will be F5D7000_v7032_0831.exe
    2.  Do not run (ie:double click)  The executable file is no good to you because the Belkin software will say its the wrong version of Windows.
    3.  Download Free version6 of WINZIP or WINRAR if you do not already have it on your computer.  You will need this to "Extract" the files from the executable file you downloaded from Belkin.
    4.  Once you download the "extracting" software.  Open the Belkin executable file in the extraction software and extract it to your desktop.  Once done, you should have a folder with the name F5D7000_v7032_0831.  Good so far?
The next part is similar to other fixes, but be sure to follow closely.
    5.  Go under "Start" button (Windows Logo) on the Task Bar.   Right click on "Computer" and click "Properties".  This will bring up a new screen.
    6.  Click on "Device Manager".    Your Network Adapter Card should have an exclaimation point next to it.  Right click and click on "update drivers".  This will bring up a new screen.
    7.  Click on "Browse my computer for driver software", and then  Click on "Browse".
    8.  Browse to the F5D7000_v7032_0831 folder on your desktop and look for the "VistaX64" folder.  Click on that and hit the OK button.  Windows does the rest.
That's it.  Hope it works for you.  I know a lot of these fixes are hit and miss because of all the different versions of the card, as I tried a lot of different things to get mine working.  Not sure whats taking Belkin so long to create the
drivers for Windows 7...they already have them.
I encourage other users to try this method for other version of the card (ie: v5000, v6000 etc.) it may work.
NOTE:  I do caution against trying other manufactures drivers only because this may cause a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) as it did for me, and really freak you out.  Windows will then launch "Startup Repair".  If it does, allow it to do a restore
point, and this will get you back and rockin.
Curious to see if this works for anyone else...let me know!

  • Recommendations for Wireless Card?

I am thinking of getting a new wireless card for my laptop because my wireless connection is very weak at home. We all use a router, however my sister in the room next to me has flawless connection on her Windows laptop. It was suggested to me to look into getting a networking card that matches my Linksys router for stronger wireless connection, but I was hoping for some more advice. I do not know where to look first or how to start searching.

Some WiFi issues are known to be fixed simply by upgrading to 10.4.11. To upgrade to 10.4.11, follow my FAQ*:

  • Dv9810us after recovery windows will not detect the wireless card that is bulit into the computer.

After running the recovery (Vista 32) from the recovery partition my computer no longer sees the Wifi card installed.
There is nothing in device manager, the hp wireless wizard doesn't detect anything. I went to HP's site and download the 3 different wifi drivers that it would be and installed them. I can not rememeber what the adapter was.,. thats a problem.
This system was a refurbed unit when I bought it, if the salesman was correct it was recalled because of a faulty Wireless card. I wonder if they replaced the card with one that the restore partition installation could not detect.
    Any ideas?

first make sure the wifi is turned on either by a switch located on the front of keyboard or a soft touch icon near the display.. if you have the soft touch make sure it's blue in color if its orange its turned off

  • Qustion for wireless card Satelite Pro M30

    Hello,
I laptop has the Intel 2100. Would a 2200 Intel card purchased from the open market operate, or must I purchase the Toshiba one?
    Thanks and Regards
    George

    Hi
In my opinion you can buy the wireless card where you want but the cards that you can order at Toshiba site are tested and it must work without problem. As far as I know on your unit there are drivers for INTEL and ATHEROS wireless cards already preinstalled and these cards will be recognized and installed automatically.
