IdeaPad U400 shuts down when in sleep mode

My IdeaPad U400 shuts down when sleeping. All programs terminate.
I reviewed another poster's complaint about a similar problem several months. The response instructed the user to update the computer's drivers.
I have updated my drivers. My computer still shuts down regularly while sleeping. Please help!

Hi RuthAnne,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the issue still persists even after re-installing the drivers as suggested in the previous posts, I also assume that you have updated the Video Driver(Win 7 or Win 8) & Chipset Driver (Win 7 or Win 8)specifically and checked if this resolves the issue.
If the issue is same even after installing the above mentioned drivers, please backup the Data in the computer to any external hard drive and perform OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) to check and confirm the issue is with the
OS (Operating System).
NOTE: If the computer is shipped with pre-installed operating System OSRI can be performed using the instructions in U400 User Guide click here, check the steps to perform OKR(One Key Recovery) on page 23.
Hope this helps!!!
Best Regards
Shiva Kumar

  • How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode?

How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode and plugged in?

    Thanks tjk.
Those are great suggestions and got me looking in places I had not considered before. Unfortunately, the problem remains. The System Preferences did not have the shut down option activated and there are no parental controls active on the computer.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.

  • QOSMIO x870 shutting down when in sleep mode

I'm not sure if this is working as intended or not.
I was working with the ECO setting to put my computer to sleep after certain amount of time. Once it was asleep for a certain amount of time, it would go into a shutdown/hibernation mode. It turns back on in the state that it was in when it went to sleep.
Also, if I have a program running and lock the computer, it will act like this as well when there is sleep time set.
I thought that I would be able to lock my computer and run a download over-night, but when I went to my computer in the morning, my computer was shutdown/hibernating. It came back up to where it was, but it appears that it hadn't continued the download for much over an hour before shutting down.
I don't think that this is intended, but I may be wrong.
I'm still digging around trying to find settings in regards to this. But I have hibernate turned completely off.
Is there some way to set the computer so that it won't shutdown/hibernate when in sleep mode and/or a locked screen?
In the meantime, I'm trying setting the ECO settings to "Sleep :: Never" to try to accomplish my download without the computer shutting down/hibernating during the process.

    Thanks tjk.

  • MBP shuts down when in sleep mode

I left my core i5 MBP 15 asleep during the day today with about a 85% charge. I opened the lid later this evening and the computer shut down and when I started it up, it only had a 58% charge. Please let me know what's going on or what I need to do. Thanks.

Tech. Support told me to send my laptop to them after too much of my time wasted. They were trying to make me install the Thinkpad Power Manager software and driver once again. They even said it was normal if your laptop shuts down after a few minutes or hours in sleep mode which is completely stupid unless the battery drained off and that's not the case.
And what's more important, my laptop was working faultlessly until I sent it to them for service. Then they changed the main board but they broke my LCD screen and caused the problem with Sleep mode. So I had to send it back, they changed the LCD with a 2005 HT14P12-100 when I had bought it in 2008 but they did nothing about the Sleep problem. And they want me to swallow that?
Ok, they'll collect it on Monday or Tuesday because I told them I was fed up and I didn't want it like that. I don't expect they'll solve the problem but I don't want it back until my Thinkpad works like it used to do before they put their hands on it.

  • Yoga 13 Shuts down when in sleep mode...

I've always used sleep mode at night and quite frankly most of the time instead of shutting down my yoga. I know thats not good after reading some here but wanted to share history in case that has something to do with problem.
Typically at night or when leaving office or just going to be off computer for a while I'll close the lid (which is set for sleep mode) and when I return I open it up, enter my password and I'm right where i left off. I have multiple spreadsheets or power points open so it's easier than shutting those down every time or even at night. But since yesterday, when I open it back up, it has shut down and has to start up from "off" vs sleep. All things open have to be recovered (xls, docs, ppt, etc) and chrome says it has shut down unexpectedly and asks if I want to restore tabs, etc.
What is causing this change and how can I troubleshoot it and fix it?
    Help much appreciated.

Right click on command prompt and select run as administrator. That should fix it and allow you to type that line

  • Done everything, yet my Mac keeps shutting down when in sleep mode

I have reviewed all the topics here and nothing quite matches my problem.
When I put my computer to sleep, after about 30 minutes, it shuts down.
    I have vacuumed the vents.
I checked Console for warnings (there are none).
    I reset the SMU.
    I reset the PRAM.
It is out of its warranty with Apple Care ... is my computer dying??
Any ideas what to do next?

My 3.5 year old 20” G5 iMac recently started doing the exact same thing! It does not seem to be heat related, and there are no warnings in the console either, and it was not part of the ones identified with possible power supply issues.
I’ve checked all of the preferences and settings, ran Disk Warrior and Disk Utilities, checked file permissions (all were OK). Mine only seems to power down after it goes to sleep (but not every time), never in the middle of doing anything. So far, I’ve only noticed it when some of my external fire wire drives are powered up, but that could be a coincidence.
I was beginning to think it’s some sort of software bug, but I suppose it could be a hardware fault with the logic board. But since you are having the same issue, maybe it is software afterall. My software is totally up to date, but it seems that I’ve only started having this problem after installing 10.5.6.

  • Energy consumption when shut down or in sleep mode

    Dear All,
I have been going through many forums and looking for a solution.
When shutting down my computer or setting to sleep the battery is still being used. When shut down it is around 10% in a 24hr period and similar in sleep mode.
I have run "pmset -g assertions" in "Terminal" for those who dont know and the following comes up. I always have an active user. I have every program turned off.
    Assertion status system-wide:

Where else do I need to look?
It is bothering me to bits as I may not use it for 2-3 days or when travelling long distances. I bought this macbook pro so I could use it for extended periods, but this is such a bother!!!

Thanks for the suggestions - I have checked the console logs and it looks like my Elgato EyeTV (which isn't currently connected and in use) has a helper app which is waking up the computer at strange times.

  • My mac shuts down in prolonged sleep mode "because of a Problem".

If my mac book pro mid 2012 goes to sleep for a prolonged period of time I have to reboot it as hard start and get a message indicating that it shut down because of an problem.  How Do I fix this?
I had my mother board tested at a mac shop in Nepal while I was there and it came back as everything being perfect.
It does not always do this though and for short sleeps it never does.
I have had extensive changes done to this mac such as a 16GB Ram upgrade and replacing the hard drive with a 1 T Crucial Hard Drive and removing the DVD Player and adding in a 256 Solid State Drive.  So far everything has been working great.  Just recently I notice this occuring with the sleep mode so as a result I just shut down the computer fully when I am not near to it or using it.  Any advice as to what to look at or try out.

    godlovestodance,
your Mid 2012 needs 1600 MHz memory modules. Is your currently installed RAM of this variety?
In your current setup, is it your 1 TB HDD or your 256 GB SSD that is in the optical drive bay?
One thing you can try is this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still crash because of an extended sleep?

  • Ideapad U510 shuts down instead of sleeping

I have an Ideapad U510 with Windows 8.  If I close the screen, or put it into sleep mode, it shuts down.  If I walk away from it for a few minutes then it shuts down and I have to wait for it to restart, which is a drag.  I've changed every setting I could find under power options on the control panel, nothing seems to change it.  I spend a LOT of time waiting for my computer to re-boot.  Any suggestions how I can get it to sleep rather than shut down?   Thanks for any suggestions.

I have done all of these and reset to factory defaults by One Key Recovery button. At the end I sent it to Lenovo repair center and they claimed they had fixed it by upgrading the Power Mgt software and BIOS, but in the last two days (I received it 3 days ago) it happened twice again. I believe it is a hardware issue. While this is a commonly reported issue for U510, why deosn't Lenovo still have a solution for it?
This is definetly my LAST Lenovo computer and I DO NOT recommand this brand to anyone.

  • IPhone Shutting Off When In Sleep Mode

So, I had a problem with my iphone, and took it to the mac store and got it replaced.
now, my new iphone will completely shut down within minutes of being in sleep mode. it will only stay on in sleep mode when it's connected to power. is there any way to solve this problem without having to go to the mac store again?

    Hi!!
I too have the same problem. I bought the 8GB iphone about 20 days back.
Few days it worked ok, but during this time the battery was getting exhausted within 12-14Hrs. After that, one day it went into trans and stopped working. Now it only works when it is connected to the power otherwise it keeps on displaying the Apple Logo, and of course the mobile net work is disconnected.
Can somebody help me resolving the said issue.

  • Why iMac shuts off when in sleep mode? Using latest System (Yosemite)

Can anyone tell me why my iMac 27", running on the latest system (Yosemite), all of a sudden started shutting off when put in the sleep mode?

    Try resetting the SMC.
Additionally, look at the log files around the time the system shut down.
You might also take it in for testing/diagnosis.

  • Helix shuts down while in sleep mode

Using windows 8.  Every time I shut the lid of my computer it goes into sleep mode. This is good, but after a while in sleep mode it either shuts down or does something that causes it to close all programs and require rebooting. How do i stop this from happening and just let it go in sleep mode forever?

It's intel's IRST function。When you press sleep, after some time(you can change the value in bios),it will save the data in memory into a special ssd partition to save power。
    How to:
Restart the helix, when the lenovo trademark appeared, you touch the text under the "lenovo", enter the bios.
select config, power, you will see “intel rapid start tech.”,see the description on the right side. When you understand the tech you can change the value now.
you can disable the IRST,then when you press sleep in windows by close the lib or touch the power on the charm,it will sleep until the battery out of power. you can change the time just as 8 hours, so you will not power the helix from bios start  after a night .
maybe my english is poor ,just remember :bios->config->power->intel rapid start technology->disable.

  • MacBook Pro freezes or shut down automatically in sleep mode

    Hi there,
since awhile I'm troubled with a strange problem: Every now and then my MacBook Pro freezes randomly.
The only way to recover is to use the power button. There is no causality with programs I used or with
external devices. I don't use SOPHOS by the way.
The second strange thing is that my MacBookPro also automatically shuts down (after a while) when I use the screensaver
or the sleep mode. Any Idea?
    Kind Regards,

Try a Safe Mode boot ...
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.

  • Mac shuts down when in sleep

  • Lenovo Ideapad y550: shuts down when unplugged, wont start on battery. new battery did nothing.

Hello wonderful Lenovo user's and guru's! I have recieved a Lenovo Ideapad y550 from a pawn shop. I grabbed it because I knew this was a pretty good computer. I thought I could fix any problems it has and it would be just fine. =] So this laptop shuts down instantly if I unplug the power cord. Just dies, no time to do any saving or lights to blink. Just instant shutdown. Also when I try to power it on when its unplugged from the AC, it does nothing. Also shuts off in the middle of playing guild wars 2. No other games shut off on me. When I realized I had this problem, I ordered a new battery for my model of laptop. The new battery is doing the exact same thing as the other battery that was in it. It seems the computer has a fresh install of windows except with a .old folder in the C drive. So I am guessing someone did some sort of reformat or recover? the recovery was done through the Pawn Shop. It seems that it has windows 7 64 bit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
