  • Ideapad U410 SSD problem

My 18 month old (out of Lenovo warranty) Ideapad had what I was sure was an SSD hardware failure.  Would not boot or run from recovery disk - i/o errors.  I took it to a local computer repair shop for an estimate on repairs for American Express (extended warranty).  They tell me there is no SSD drive in this computer - only a standard hard disk which has failed.   All of the data I have found on this model says that it includes a 32 GB SSD.  I purchased the computer directly from Lenovo (new).  Is the repair shop missing something?  Or does this model not include an SSD?   Thanks.

    Hello and welcome,
What's the MT-M (machine type - model) of your laptop.  Something like 4376-29U as an example.
Some U410 models came with a hard drive and a 32GB mSATA SSD which is used as a cache for the hard drive.  The 32GB SSD is too small to be a stand-alone OS drive.
Your particular model may have a hard drive only, or hard drive + SSD.  The lipwbook lists some of the MT-Ms and their configuration.  Yours may be in it.

  • Ideapad S450 booting problem after windows 8.1 update

Hi.. I have a Lenovo Ideapad S450 with windows8. Yesterday while updating to Windows 8.1, it got shut down. When I switched it ON, it started booting continuously. All it displays is 'Lenovo' logo with a progressing bar, shut downs and starts booting again. Please help me if there is any way to sort it out other than System restoration. Thanks.

The point is that the touchpad of Qosmio X70-A series supports some additional features.
One of the features is the Gesture feature. I would recommend disabling it.
I found very nice HowTo document about the Touchpad settings and how to change the Synaptic options.
[How to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm]
It refers to Win 8 but the access to the settings is the same using Win 8.1

  • Ideapad U410 no main hard drive, won't turn on after updates.

    Hi,
I just imported an Ideapad u410 from the US to the UK. It turned on fine, I started noticing the wifi proglem everyone else are having. No big deal, got a usb wifi adapter laying around I can use. Then I noticed that the hard drive (C, no other harddrive visible) was rediculously small (20-30 some GB, I forgot the exact figure) with almost all of it's space used. I figured this was a partition for the OS and that for whatever reason the rest of the drive wasn't showing. I noticed the windows update icon showing on the shutdown button and figured perhaps setup wasnt complete so I pressed restart. It kept restarting, downloading more updates and restarting, I walked away to have dinner when it proclaimed it would now install update 1 of 96. When I came back the laptop was off. I turned it on to be met by an endless cycle of BSOD during startup followed by a failed startup repair... I guess there wasn't enough space on the C drive for the windows update. What do I do now?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What os do you have? The main problem is the one key recovery, so if not interested it should be similar to the ordinary installation if there are no cache ssd installed.

  • Ideapad u410 display and suspend problem

    Hello,
My Problem is, that when I close the lid of my ideapad u410 it suspends, but when I open it again it sometimes works as expected, but most of the times the screen is displaced. (Everything is moved about 500 pixels to the right and a bit upwards too.)
For now I have set my laptop to completely shutdown when I close the lid, which works fine, but I would really prefer to get proper suspend working.
I also experienced this displacement once or twice when booting the laptop normally.
this is the output of xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 1368 x 768, current 1368 x 768, maximum 1368 x 768
It's weird because the actual resolution of my screen is 1366x768, and I noticed that when I move my mouse to the left or right border of the display, the screen actually moves these 2 pixels to the left or the right.
This might be a whole other problem, but they could be connected too, I guess.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119M [GeForce 610M] (rev a1)
I am currently using the nouveau driver.
Another problem I noticed, that might or might not be connected to the first two, is that I can't change my tty.
When I press ctrl+alt+Fx the screen just goes blank and I can't even change back to my previous session.
(Usually to get the function keys on an Ideapad u410 it is necessary to press the Fn key, but I changed that bios setting.)
If further information would be helpful, tell me what you would like to know.
Thanks in advance and a nice weekend,
    Alfred

So, nobody knows what to do?
Or is it just a problem that can't be fixed?

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410: part of screen is white

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410 and the left part of my screen is uniformly white after turning on the laptop. It's a rectangle about 1 inch long, from top of the screen to the bottom.
I got this suddenly pretty much a month after buying the laptop (it appeared suddenly and I didn't do anything to cause it), and then the area of the white rectangle got bigger after I mistakenly dropped my laptop yesterday.
Would buying a new screen and installing it fix this, or could the problems be more besides the screen?
And is this covered by limited warranty?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dsav6,
As per your concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the graphics driver of your system from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073650
Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance and it will be covered under warranty.
    Regards,
    Sameer

Always I am getting a blank white screen.Attached are screen captures. Hi SreeArjun,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are unable to boot the system in your Lenovo U410 laptop.
Remove the hard drive and try to boot the system into BIOS and check if any error occurs? Also insert the hard drive and check what happens after installing the HDD.
     Best regards,

  • U410 incredible slow after RAM upgrade

Hello everyone, A month ago I bought a Lenovo Ideapad u410 MAG6NMH and decided to upgrade the memory from 8GB(2 sticks of 4gb)  to 16GB (2 stick of 8GB) . but after I had change the memory my notebook became very very very slow, like starting up took 8 minutes. So after some research with google I though the settings in my BIOS are wrong, but I was not able to find my RAM/memory settings in the BIOS, did I overlook this? Some of the specs from notebook/memory: CPU/SoCCi7-3517UCPU architectuurIntel Ivy BridgeThe processor should be able to handle16GB RAM memory                       Memory information(To show my old and my new memory I have put them both in (new 8gb stick and old 4gb stick), when my pc was slow both the 8GB stick were in)                     the old 4GB RAM specs:                     new 8gb RAM specs:                     My BIOS version:                     Picture from one of the new 8GB memory sticks:                       I hope I have informed enough about my specs, I hope some of you guys can help. And again , my notebook was slow with two stick of 8GB(so when I had 16GB) but for the pictures and installing cpu-z I replaced one 8GB stick with an old 4GB stick.  I hope I've been clear enough en sorry for my bad English. Mod Comment: Removed blank spaces that should have included pictures. Please see About-Posting-Pictures-In-The-ForumsThanks, I've edit it.

I too am having this problem with my i5 U410 after upgrading from 6gb of ram, to 2 x 8gb corsair vengeance ram!  I've had slow boot times, CPU usage darting all over the place and makes my laptop unusable! I've been troubleshooting this all day and have found that If I remove 1 x 8gb stick, laptop runs completely fine. I then bumped into this thread (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Betreff-100-CPU-load-with-16GB-RAM-eGPU/td-p/1219312) for a different lenovo laptop, which mentions about the bios not being able to allocate enough memory for 16gb of ram, plus a GPU over 512mb, which the U410 has a 1gb GPU. So I went into the bios and disable the Nvidia graphics driver and set it to UMA only, and low and behold, the laptop runs completely fine with 16gb of ram installed. But this disables the GPU, and as a video editor, this is not a tradeoff I can deal with. I've trawled the intenret for hours not looking for a solution, but havn't found any reasonable explanation yet!

  • Ideapad U410 wont start - Motherboard failure?

So I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad U410 almost exactly 1 year ago. I bought it to use at college because of its slim design and lightweight. I have absolutely loved this computer up until a week ago when it unexpectedly wouldn't start. The computer was extremely hot and when I tried turning it on it cycled through 3 screens. The first was the Lenovo start screen, the second a screen with some writing on it and the third a black screen. I brought my computer into the tech people at my college and they said that my hard drives were perfectly fine, but that something was wrong with my motherboard and they didn't know what. I was told that my situation was pretty much hopeless. I've tired using the recovery button and everything, but nothing has seemed to work. Is there any hope for my computer?
I am extremely angered and frustrated that this happened so soon after the purchase. If this is the quality of Lenovo computers then I am never purchasing another one, and I will highly recommend all of my friends and family to do the same.
Here are the pictures of what the screen does:

I had the same problem .. I phoned Lenovo support, took it to nearest service centre and they replaced the motherboard as it was under warranty. It took several days to a week as the part needed to be shipped to them, however I got it back as good as new,
I have no complaints with the service that they provided.
You may even have an extended hardware warranty as Lenovo ship their product with flyers .. check your paperwork.
Also your consumer rights are not affected by the warranty period .. learn those and then discuss it with Lenovo support.

  • Ideapad U410: Improve Wifi range?

    Hi,
with my new Ideapad U410 I recognize large differences comparing to my thinkpad edge concerning the range of wifi.
Is it possible to improve this?
maybe with an other wifi nic?
    greetings

Hi FastDun, welcome to the forums,
sorry you haven't received a reply as quickly as you would have liked, but this is a peer to peer forum it can take some time for the right person to come along with the right answer; forums in general usually require a little patience.
That said, it sounds to me as though you have a possible problem with a firewall software.  There are a few posts in the last week where it seems McAfee has been the cause of the problem, happened also to a friend of mine.
Can you connect using safe mode with networking?  If so and you can't connect under normal Windows operation this would confirm a software firewall is the culprit in which case I would suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the software after a new start.

  • U410 Wireless Problem

    Hi,
Initially, I found that the batch of Lenovo U410 have problem with their Broadcom wireless card, ad therefore a change to the Aetheros wireless card is required to improve the connectivity.
However, after changing it for like 2 weeks....... The wireless problem still persist, and when I asked the guy at service centre, he said that there is improvement, but I am still experiencing a very slow and crappy wireless internet connect, at home, at school and at work!
So was wondering does changing the wireless card really solve the problem? Or is there a problem with the build structure of the U410 causing the problem? Anyone experiencing the same problem?

  • Ideapad U410 not working in Normal Mode

    Hi,
My Lenovo Ideapad U410 has suddenly stopped working in normal mode. If I need to open a link or an important document, I open it in a safe mode.
Has anyone faced a similar kind of issue? I don't want to format the system as i would first like to know the root cause. The laptop is within a warranty period however Ideapads don't have an international warramty i guess.
    Any help would be appreciable.
    Thanks,

This is cause by some conflict/defective in the installed drivers. Try doing the procedure describe in this link. It also described on how to determine which is causing the problem.

  • Ideapad U410 windows 8. one button recovery

    HI,
I've a IdeaPad U410 that ships with Win 7 and a cool little feature called one button recovery.
The idea is that when the pc is off, you can hit this button and invoke the recovery partition to reload win 7.
Having update the PC to Win 8, I would liek to setup the same operation but with win 8.
Has anyone been succesful with this, how'd you do it?
    I see to steps:
Setup a Win 8 Recovery partition, which looks harder than it sounds.
Tell the pc to look at it for the one click recovery.
Over to the Lenovo masses, your thoughts are most welcome.
    Stan

    Hi Stan,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to inform you that after upgrading the OS (Operating System) from Windows 7 to Windows 8, OKR (One Key Recovery) partition will lose its path with the Software and cannot create the recovery partition for Windows 8 and OKR button will not work as expected.
Do post us back for further queries.

  • Schlechte Garantieabwicklung - IdeaPad U410

Hallo.

Kostenpunkt: 124,70€ 15,00€ Backcover, 15,00€ LCD Bezel???
Sowas nennt man ABZOCKE
