Ideapad U410 no main hard drive, won't turn on after updates.

Hi,
I just imported an Ideapad u410 from the US to the UK. It turned on fine, I started noticing the wifi proglem everyone else are having. No big deal, got a usb wifi adapter laying around I can use. Then I noticed that the hard drive (C, no other harddrive visible) was rediculously small (20-30 some GB, I forgot the exact figure) with almost all of it's space used. I figured this was a partition for the OS and that for whatever reason the rest of the drive wasn't showing. I noticed the windows update icon showing on the shutdown button and figured perhaps setup wasnt complete so I pressed restart. It kept restarting, downloading more updates and restarting, I walked away to have dinner when it proclaimed it would now install update 1 of 96. When I came back the laptop was off. I turned it on to be met by an endless cycle of BSOD during startup followed by a failed startup repair... I guess there wasn't enough space on the C drive for the windows update. What do I do now?

What os do you have? The main problem is the one key recovery, so if not interested it should be similar to the ordinary installation if there are no cache ssd installed.

  • External Hard Drive won't turn on

    Hi all,
I have just bought a brand new iMac and a new Western Digital 1TB External Hard Drive to use Time Machine on. I have plugged it all in, done my first back up and it all went fine.
Then, I turned off my computer and all the plugs to go to bed as usual, now when I have come back to it in the morning the Western Digital Hard Drive won't turn on! It's all plugged in and fine, but no life at all.
Has anyone else had this? Can anyone explain or help?
    Thanks

Hello Simon. I'd do what Barry Hemphill has suggested and try to return or RMA the drive.
Did you buy the drive from a store or online? I believe the fault would not be fixed by any apple updates as it seems to be a hardware fault rather than a software one from what Ive read.
    Is this the drive? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=357
Does it work when connected via USB at all? I had issues with a firewire drive sometimes not showing up so I switched to a USB interface and it worked fine sinc then.
    Good luck!

  • External hard drive won't mount, even after disk repair.

My Toshiba external hard drive won't mount on my MacBook Pro 10.8.5. I can see it in my disk repair, and when I repair, "the partition map appears to be ok." But I can't access the icon to be able to open the hard drive contents on my desktop. Help!

    Hello maccynicwhoalwayshasmacs,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like trouble with an external HD mounting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • External hard drive won't shut down after switch from OS10.5 to OS10.4.11

i recently chanded my OS from 10.5 to 10.4.11 (as a programme i want to use is not compatible with leopard), but since i have done this my external hard-drive won't shut down automatically when i shut down my mac. i have to switch it off at the plug instead.
can anyone suggest how i can get it to do this again?
i'm a little concerned that i'm damaging the external drive by turning it off manually all the time..
    thanks

Some hard drives shut off with shutdown, some don't. Sometimes hard drives that did shut off with one system will not do the same with a different system. My hard drives which did shut off, prior to 10.5 now stay on.
This is not really a problem as all hard drives spin down after 10- 20 minutes when not in use, whether your computer is on or off. Leaving the drive on is fine, shutting it off manually is fine.

Same here, but I can play everything that I own, but can't play rentals. I think that is the reason because it is on an external hard drive. iTunes is to big for my MBP hard drive. Not sure what the problem is.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen won't turn on after updating to iOS 8 using the computer, help!?

On my computer (using windows) I tried to update my iPod touch 5th gen to iOS 8 using iTunes, using this website http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/17/the-secret-to-skipping-long-ios-8-downlo ads-and-problems/ as a guide.
It kept coming up with this error http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201442 after the update.
Now my iPod won't turn on and it shows the charger with the lightening with an arrow above it pointing to the iTunes logo.
So i plugged it into iTunes but i don't know what i'm supposed to do, any help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Q10 Won't Turn On After Update

I am currently on Windows Phone and wanted to try Blackberry 10 as I am fan of my old Blackberry. I wanted to try it out cheap so I bought a Q10 on Ebay for $50 even though the seller said the phone had a water damaged sticker thinking I could fix it. I also bought a brand new battery from Amazon to go with it.
So my issue is when I got the phone, it was having trouble connecting to Link and reloading the OS would fail due to connection loss, so I nuked the phone with a program to clear the phone. I also soaked the phone in isopropyl alcohol after reading that soaking it could get rid of mineral deposits on water damaged phones. After the nuke and clean, the phone does the two quick blinking red lights which (I think) means the phone has no OS on it which is what I wanted after the nuke.
So, I plug the phone into the computer and Link recognizes it as a Q10. I have BB OS 10.2 downloaded and went to reload it. It completes the update all the way with a green LED on the whole time it is updating. When Link says to unplug the phone to let it reboot, the phone does nothing. Holding down power for any length of time can't turn on the phone. Plugging the phone into a wall charger causes the orange charging LED to flash on like it's going to start charging before quickly turning to a red LED while it stays plugged in.
I nuked the phone and tried Autoloader which does the same thing in the end as the phone won't turn on when it unplugs from the computer after updating. Seeing as how the phone is recognized by Link, seems to update correctly with the green LED on, and can be nuked fine, is there any way I can get this phone to work? It seems as though the battery isn't charging because once I unplug from the computer / wall, nothing seems to do anything and the LED doesn't flash. It is a new battery, so could the water have caused an issue on the circuit board which is not letting the battery charge?
Any help is appreciated, and I am willing to try pretty much anything and have decent knowledge of software / hardware. I have done tons of searching for similar issues to no success, but have not found this exact problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

OK, you bought a new battery which I would recommend, and it still is NOT charging or powering on.
You've done this already >> Make sure you let it charge with the wall outlet charger for several hours and then with it still connected to the wall outlet charger, remove the battery and reinsert... what happens?

  • IPhone won't turn on after update

I tried to do an update on my iPhone4 and now the phone won't turn back on and iTunes isn't saying that it's in recovery mode.

  • Hard drive won't spin up after sleep

I just replaced my original 80GB HD with a SeaGate 250GB UltraATA HD. It went fine except for one thing. Now when the computer's been idle and the drives have spun down I can't spin up again. Spinning ball. Only option is hard re-start. I've disabled the check box in Energy Saver which works around the problem - drives never spin down. However, I'm looking for a solution which will allow the drives to sleep. Any suggestions?

Replace it with WD or Hitachi. My guess is it is firmware problem, though to be honest, those were all SATA drives last year (7200.9).

  • Won't turn on after update

    Hi,
I just tried to do an update of 5 things. Stupid me doesn't know what they were except for an itunes update. Now my computer is trying to restart but won't! It goes to the apple screen and then restarts and this is all it does. Does anyone have any idea on what to do??? Please help!

You may be able to get it to go past that step by holding down the
Shift key on startup; and continue holding until you get a login
screen and it should say something about SafeBoot in a window.
If you can get this far, and get a desktop screen, find and use
Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' and note the repaired list
of permissions; it should have several. And run the repair again.
May as well; if you get this far. Then quit Disk Utility, and restart.
(You can use GO in the Finder desktop as a shortcut to go to
the Utilities folder, where Disk Utility is located.)
Another option, should the above not work, would be to get your
OS X Installer Disc and see about booting the computer from that.
And use the Disk Utility version on that disc; available prior to any
launch of the Installer itself, is a menu bar in the top of the Installer
to choose other options. Disk Utility is among options in a drop-down
menu beneath the Installer's header menubar. Do not launch Installer.
You can 'repair disk' as well as 'repair disk permissions' from this version
of Disk Utility in the installer; among other things more drastic, irreversible.
Be sure to use the Installer disc of the OS version now in use; should you
have upgraded to a new OSX, use that. Don't use an older boot installer.
When done running Disk Utility's tools (first aid components) you can quit
D.U. and then look back into the Installer's drop-down menubar and find
Startup Disk, to choose to boot the computer from its hard disk drive OS.
{The look, feel, and some names of things may be different in Leopard 10.5
than in Tiger 10.4.11; but the actual tools and procedures are similar. See
    or search Apple Support's database for exact documents if in doubt.}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • E72 won't turn on after update

Hi all. Tonight I did a sync and was informed of a phone software update.
Done a few of these now on my E72 so thought it would be plain sailing. Wrong. The process obviously froze, I gave it plenty of time. The screen said if necessary remove battery etc and reconnect USB lead which is what I did.
The phone is now dead other than vibrating as you turn it on. I've tried a hard reset by holding shift, space and backspace while powering up but nothing (other than the vibrate).
I take it I have a pile of junk now? Anything else I can try?
Not too happy at the minute as my last phone was an N97, so am on the edge!
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike.

  • IPad won't turn on after update to ios7

After updating to ios7 on my iPad, it would keep resetting itself and show the apple logo until finally starting up.  Over a few days this got worse and worse and eventually stopped working where I would have to hold the home and on/off buttons to reset it.  I have now reached a point where it no longer starts up.  Having went to an apple store they say they can't identify the issue as they can't start it up and offered me to pay £199 to have it replaced (how very nice of them).  I have had online chats with an advisor and a senior advisor who have diagnosed this as a 'hardware' issue!!!
Guess what apple, no it is not, this is a result of the updgrade to ios7!!!  My iPad worked perfect before and I will not be paying £199 to replace it!!!
If anybody else has had similar problems please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Try this reset ...
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, restore the iPad  >  Tunes: Restoring iOS software

  • My phone won't turn on after updating ios 6.1

I've updated ios 6.1. The phone went off durign the night (it had 60% battery).
Now it only turns on plugged to the wall socket (not if I plug it to the USB port) and it shows the "iOS 6 Configuration" screen, telling me to connect to iTunes, but if I unplug it to connect to the USB, it turns off.
If I plug it to the USB, it keeps showing the little apple, and turns off, again and again. It never gets to the same screen of the "iOS 6 configuration".
I can´t seem to turn it on with de DFU mode plugged to the computer.

    Hi elmauki,
    Error 21
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    Error 1602
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
