Ideapad u410 now shipping with windows 8

Lenovo -- what is going on????
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.det...
All the u410 models are shipping with windows 8... yet your support site win 8 upgrade guide has not been updated.
Personally, I already returned my u410 because of this mess, but there are a lot of people here who deserve an answer.

I figured out Lenovo's scheme:
1) offer no assistance whatsoever and remain completely silent when asked repeatedly to outline the steps to upgrade the U410 to windows 8
2) meanwhile, ship the NEW U410 with Windows 8 pre-installed and only 6gb ram for $799:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/pd/Lenovo-IdeaPad-U410-Notebook/productID.256043800/sear...
3) reduce the price on the Windows 7 U410 to $599:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/pd/Lenovo-IdeaPad-U410-4376/productID.250640400/search.t...
So, the only way to get a PROPER win 8 install on the U410 is to pay an extra $200.

  • T440s shipping with windows 8.1 yet?

Just told my T440s ordered in November is now shipping ... are they still going out with Windows 8.0 on or has Lenovo caught up?
    Thanks,

    Hi Mike,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Your system would probably be arriving with Windows 8 only. But upgrading to Windows 8.1 is quite easy. Refer the below link to understand how to perform an update.
Update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8
Only recent models like ThinkPad Yoga is being shipped with Windows 8.1.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Is iTunes now compatible with Windows 8 with the iTunes 11.0 update?

Is iTunes now compatible with Windows 8 with the iTunes 11.0 update?

Problem solved. The music was from Amazon MP3 store and I had to re-download it from the Amazon Cloud Player to my hard drive. It was there, but not even the Amazon Cloud Player software would play it from my PC, though it would from the Cloud. So after the re-download, I was able to add it to my iTunes Library.

  • Lenovo U510--do the newer models (ship with windows 8) still have wifi and touchpad isssues?

    Hi,
I'm currently a student and just started my last semester of undegrad. Unfortunately old POS acer's screen got messed up a few weeks ago and I need a new laptop.
I'm strongly considering the U510, but I'm really nervous about wifi and trackpad issues.
I'm considering buying it from costco, it's $699. The one they're selling ships with windows 8, so I'm assuming they're newer than the ones that shipped with windows 7 (which was on the site a few weeks ago). Has anyone who bought one of the 8510's noticed these two issues?
    Thanks!

    hi thehammer401,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The only thing I noticed about the Touchpad is the sensitivity - which is a common thing as when you are typing, the Touchpad suddenly jumps around the screen. This can easily be fixed by lowering the sensitivity of the Palm and Touch sensitivity settings of the pad (you need to:
    1. Open the Control Panel > Hardware & Sound and look for Mouse
    2. Under the  Mouse Properties, go to the Device Settings or Elan Tab then click Options or Settings and look for Sensitivity.
Check this website for a sample guide on how to adjust a touchpad's sensitivity. As for the WiFi connectivity, never got a problem so far.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is new iPod Touch 5 now shipping with iOS7?

Was just wondering is the new iPod Touch now shipping with iOS7 or still (6.1.3) depending on the date of manufacture. Because on the Apple website it's still stating the system requirements for iTunes is still 10.7. When did it require iTunes 11 on the (iOS7 or the iOS7.2) update?
If they're now shipping with (iOS7). Apple forgot to update that page because it still stating the minimum requirements for iTunes is still iTunes (10.7) Not that it really affects me because I have iPod Touch (4th gen) and running (iOS 6.1.3) but I though I would point that out anyways.

I know but now if you've upgraded or it ships with iOS7 in order to sync with iTunes a message pops up and states in order to sync this iPod you now have to have iTunes 11. Now if you want to manage your IPod Touch (5th) your forced to download iTunes 11, that is unless the iPod is still at (6.1.3).

  • Are refurbs now shipping with Leopard installed?

I sent my brother a refurb iMac for the holidays. He hasn't set it up yet (they did the free overnight shipping, I didn't even expect him to get it yet!) but he said the box, which appeared slightly damaged in transit (one side was opened), only came with the 2 start up disks- no Leopard upgrade disk.
Does anyone know if the refurbs are now shipping with Leopard preinstalled? I ordered this on 12/18, so it's what I'm thinking- otherwise, I'm concerned that the disk may have either fallen out/been taken out. . .
Thanks. (no, he hasn't turned it on yet- I asked him to, but I think he's afraid of it, and is waiting for Tuesday when folks will be able to help him get it set up!)

I had a refurb mini delivered a month ago and it included the "upgrade" Leopard DVD

  • Z640 about to order, any dates for shipping with Windows 10 ?

As I heard rumours that Win 10 may be shipping circa 24th -26th July , i thought I might delay the order so it arrives ( built to order) with Windows 10
    A) anyvody know when the new OS will start shipping?
    B) would experienced users sugggest asking for a down grade to Win7 Pro - or is Windows 10 have a good pre launch rep ( unlike Windows 8 did ).
When formulating your advice please note Imam crap with computers and the only thing I want to do is add more discs later . No interest in RAID etc. - just want it simple.
I was going to order with 2 x 16 GB - appreciating that 4 x 8 would be better, but dont want to have to discard RAM later if 32 GB is not enough.
Will 32 GB be enough - interested in any users real world experience please.....

I knew you had the knowledge to move the data; but I've seen a lot of folks get into trouble doing it.
And most have an inflated idea of how much data their systems write.
What kind of write load do you actually have?
Virtually all drives provide SMART monitoring of how much data has been written, as well as projected lifespan, and information on expected program/erase cycles is available online.
The Samsung 850 Pro, for example, should last 6,000 program/erase cycles.  Being conservative and assuming a really bad 3:1 write amplification (which is an overestimate), imagine being able to write the entire SSD and erase it 2,000 times.
For a single 512 GB SSD, that would be 1 terabyte of write load per day for almost 3 years.  Remember, you can read it as many times as you like; NAND only wears on erase cycles, which happen during re-writes.
Most people do not write anywhere near 1 terabyte of data per day.  I use my system heavily and in my case (including it being an SVN server) and I don't even reach 20% of that.  I'm spreading the write load across 4 drives with the RAID
array so the load on any one device is divided further.
But you don't have to guess at what you're writing - what does your SMART data say?
See this article for some real-world tests/results re: endurance...
    http://techreport.com/review/26523/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-casualties-on-the-way-to-a-petabyte
With larger SSDs the numbers generally work out so well that people shouldn't even give wearout a second thought.  And everyone should do backups to mitigate potential data loss regardless.

  • Is the Lion USB now shipping with 10.7.2?

If I order the Lion USB drive now, will is ship with 10.7.2, or will it come with the inferior 10.7?

We have no way to know the answer to the question. You would get whatever it ships with.

  • IBM's WSAD 5.1.1 now shipping with beta JSF IDE

I'm installing WSAD 5.1.1 right now, and am reading the release notes. It ships with a beta version of "JavaServer Faces Tooling." The release notes discuss its limitations briefly, but I haven't seen anything outlining it's capabilities. I suspect this is an IBM implementation of Faces...anyone out there know more about this?
I'm very curious to take it for a test drive. IBM seems to have been much more quiet about their IDE plans for JSF, unlike Sun and Oracle. I know they've been working on it for quite a while now.
I suspect it wouldn't be wise to build anything serious with this at this point. With Faces at EA4 still, there's undoubtedly substantial changes in store for the spec before it goes final.
Has anybody had a chance to give this a try?
Incidently, WSAD 5.1.1 also includes the WebSphere 5.1 test environment.
Btw, I apologize for not posting links to info on it. I haven't seen anything on their website about 5.1.1 at all. It was just released today, so they must be a little behind on their website.

The announcement of WebSphere Studio 5.1.1 is anticipated for late November. This presentation will review the overall announcement and go into detail concerning the development tooling for JavaServer Faces (JSF) (JSR 127). JSF provides a developer interface framework for building J2EE applications and rendering the user interface in a Web browser. Using the Studio's JSF tooling, an example of accessing a database and rendering the results will be examined.
The JSF builder in Studio 5.1.1 allows quick development of robust Web Applications: * drag and drop of rich UI controls, for example, a data grid * validation either on the client or on the server * data objects to bind UI component to database access The administrative considerations for deployment of a JSF application will also be reviewed.

  • Ideapad Flex 14 issue with Windows 10

I had this with Windows 8.1 for almost 2 years.  It works fine.  Now i upgraded it to windows 10 and everything went ok but both Wired internet connection LAN and Wireless internet connection was not working.  I have downloaded the drivers by myself and also what Lenovo support suggested but it is not working.    Has anyone with Lenovo Flex 14 upgraded to Windows 10 successfully. In some ways Lenovo was advocating to update to windows 10 but they don't want to help me but send me to premium support where i have to pay :-( Thanks in advance for any help.

This really is a driver issue with Nvidia SLI or not, but it has to do with this monitor and possibly it's 75Hz refresh rate.  I thought I'd share and hopefully Acer can work with Nvidia to make their new monitors compatible with Win10.  I know we are using bleeding edge tech here, I don't mind doing the troubleshooting as long as someone acknowledges the issue and will fix it. Serious memory leak with 355.60 as soon as the monitor goes to sleep. I've done extensive testing with poolmon, xperf, etc to see if any other drivers cause this, but nothing, this is a brand new win10 fresh install. Easiest way I can show this is via MSI afterburner. Monitor is set to sleep after 1 minute so I can do this quick test.    You can see less than 2 minutes in, pagefile usage already jumped up 4gb.Unless I wake the monitor, this will eventually eat up all virtual memory resulting in:

  • Will K230 systems ship with Windows 7/EE?

(cross posted from the IdeaCenter topic)
The K230-53594KU (Quad) looks perfect for me.  But I'd prefer to wait until it comes with Windows 7 and  EE.   I know I can upgrade later, but after reading the boards, it sounds like upgrades don't include all of the EE advantages.
Will K230's be converted to 7/EE, or will there be a new model line?  The K300 doesn't look like as good an option for me because it doesn't have Quad core, BD drive or separate graphics.
    Thanks!  Brian

Took me a little while to find it again, but there is a chart in the following blog post showing what you will get and not get with a 7 upgrade over Vista.  It sounds like you'll miss out on quite a bit.  I know they are saying "buy now and we'll send you a free upgrade", but after reading about all the hassles (and expense) that people have gone through to get their "free" upgrade, I'm going to wait for a native 7/EE machine.
Back to my original question - the K230/quad is exactly what I've been looking for, but doesn't have 7/EE.  Will it be updated in the near future, or will Lenovo announce a new line to replace it?
Chart explaining what you don't get with a user installed upgrade:

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410 scrolling down with a grey screen

    HI,
I just recently purchased the Lenovo Ideapad U410 and sometimes when I try to scroll down with both fingers, a grey line and background bar starts to come down and encompass the whole screen, rendering the screen and all my apps useless. And then on the right side, it shows the time and date squished togetherand I can't seem to get out of it unless I go back to the start and then open the desktop again.
Why is it doing this and is there a way to stop it because when it scrolls all the way down, the laptop won't work and if I don't touch the touchpad, bubbles start forming forming as if it's a screen saver.
    Thanks

It sounds like your hard drive is failing or has failed. It cannot repair the disk and is suggesting you back up and format the drive. Do you already have a backup?

Can You please elaborate on your answer. As I said I am a novice at this.

  • DW 4 is now sticking with Windows 7

I have a very old version of DW. But it has been behaing quite well through all the new Windows OS. It did work at first when I upgraded to Windows 7, but now the Windows>Properties box sticks at the bottom of the page and I can't use it. Can you help

Macromedia released DW4 in December 2000 long before XP, Vista or Win7.  I think it's fair to say you either need to buy a newer version of DW.  Or you can try changing the compatibility settings either manually or by using the Program Compatibility troubleshooter.
