Ideapad U410 SSD problem

My 18 month old (out of Lenovo warranty) Ideapad had what I was sure was an SSD hardware failure.  Would not boot or run from recovery disk - i/o errors.  I took it to a local computer repair shop for an estimate on repairs for American Express (extended warranty).  They tell me there is no SSD drive in this computer - only a standard hard disk which has failed.   All of the data I have found on this model says that it includes a 32 GB SSD.  I purchased the computer directly from Lenovo (new).  Is the repair shop missing something?  Or does this model not include an SSD?   Thanks.

Hello and welcome,
What's the MT-M (machine type - model) of your laptop.  Something like 4376-29U as an example.
Some U410 models came with a hard drive and a 32GB mSATA SSD which is used as a cache for the hard drive.  The 32GB SSD is too small to be a stand-alone OS drive.
Your particular model may have a hard drive only, or hard drive + SSD.  The lipwbook lists some of the MT-Ms and their configuration.  Yours may be in it.

Try doing an OKR backup. Click OneKey Recovery icon and select backup. Specify an external drive (do not use the failing hdd). Make at least two backups just in case the first one is defective. Call tech support in preparation for a replacement job.

  • Ideapad U410 blutooth problem after *.1

    Hi

  • Ideapad u410 display and suspend problem

    Hello,
My Problem is, that when I close the lid of my ideapad u410 it suspends, but when I open it again it sometimes works as expected, but most of the times the screen is displaced. (Everything is moved about 500 pixels to the right and a bit upwards too.)
For now I have set my laptop to completely shutdown when I close the lid, which works fine, but I would really prefer to get proper suspend working.
I also experienced this displacement once or twice when booting the laptop normally.
this is the output of xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 1368 x 768, current 1368 x 768, maximum 1368 x 768
It's weird because the actual resolution of my screen is 1366x768, and I noticed that when I move my mouse to the left or right border of the display, the screen actually moves these 2 pixels to the left or the right.
This might be a whole other problem, but they could be connected too, I guess.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119M [GeForce 610M] (rev a1)
I am currently using the nouveau driver.
Another problem I noticed, that might or might not be connected to the first two, is that I can't change my tty.
When I press ctrl+alt+Fx the screen just goes blank and I can't even change back to my previous session.
(Usually to get the function keys on an Ideapad u410 it is necessary to press the Fn key, but I changed that bios setting.)
If further information would be helpful, tell me what you would like to know.
Thanks in advance and a nice weekend,
    Alfred

So, nobody knows what to do?
Or is it just a problem that can't be fixed?

  • Ideapad U410 no main hard drive, won't turn on after updates.

    Hi,
I just imported an Ideapad u410 from the US to the UK. It turned on fine, I started noticing the wifi proglem everyone else are having. No big deal, got a usb wifi adapter laying around I can use. Then I noticed that the hard drive (C, no other harddrive visible) was rediculously small (20-30 some GB, I forgot the exact figure) with almost all of it's space used. I figured this was a partition for the OS and that for whatever reason the rest of the drive wasn't showing. I noticed the windows update icon showing on the shutdown button and figured perhaps setup wasnt complete so I pressed restart. It kept restarting, downloading more updates and restarting, I walked away to have dinner when it proclaimed it would now install update 1 of 96. When I came back the laptop was off. I turned it on to be met by an endless cycle of BSOD during startup followed by a failed startup repair... I guess there wasn't enough space on the C drive for the windows update. What do I do now?
    Solved!

What os do you have? The main problem is the one key recovery, so if not interested it should be similar to the ordinary installation if there are no cache ssd installed.

  • Ideapad U410 not working in Normal Mode

    Hi,
My Lenovo Ideapad U410 has suddenly stopped working in normal mode. If I need to open a link or an important document, I open it in a safe mode.
Has anyone faced a similar kind of issue? I don't want to format the system as i would first like to know the root cause. The laptop is within a warranty period however Ideapads don't have an international warramty i guess.
    Any help would be appreciable.
    Thanks,

This is cause by some conflict/defective in the installed drivers. Try doing the procedure describe in this link. It also described on how to determine which is causing the problem.

  • Lenovo Ideapad U410: part of screen is white

I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410 and the left part of my screen is uniformly white after turning on the laptop. It's a rectangle about 1 inch long, from top of the screen to the bottom.
I got this suddenly pretty much a month after buying the laptop (it appeared suddenly and I didn't do anything to cause it), and then the area of the white rectangle got bigger after I mistakenly dropped my laptop yesterday.
Would buying a new screen and installing it fix this, or could the problems be more besides the screen?
And is this covered by limited warranty?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dsav6,
As per your concern, I would suggest you to please re-install the graphics driver of your system from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073650
Afterwards, please restart the system and check if the issue still persists then it needs a personal assistance and it will be covered under warranty.
    Regards,
    Sameer

Kostenpunkt: 124,70€ 15,00€ Backcover, 15,00€ LCD Bezel???
Always I am getting a blank white screen.Attached are screen captures. Hi SreeArjun,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are unable to boot the system in your Lenovo U410 laptop.
Remove the hard drive and try to boot the system into BIOS and check if any error occurs? Also insert the hard drive and check what happens after installing the HDD.
     Best regards,

  • Ideapad U410 wont start - Motherboard failure?

So I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad U410 almost exactly 1 year ago. I bought it to use at college because of its slim design and lightweight. I have absolutely loved this computer up until a week ago when it unexpectedly wouldn't start. The computer was extremely hot and when I tried turning it on it cycled through 3 screens. The first was the Lenovo start screen, the second a screen with some writing on it and the third a black screen. I brought my computer into the tech people at my college and they said that my hard drives were perfectly fine, but that something was wrong with my motherboard and they didn't know what. I was told that my situation was pretty much hopeless. I've tired using the recovery button and everything, but nothing has seemed to work. Is there any hope for my computer?
I am extremely angered and frustrated that this happened so soon after the purchase. If this is the quality of Lenovo computers then I am never purchasing another one, and I will highly recommend all of my friends and family to do the same.
Here are the pictures of what the screen does:

I had the same problem .. I phoned Lenovo support, took it to nearest service centre and they replaced the motherboard as it was under warranty. It took several days to a week as the part needed to be shipped to them, however I got it back as good as new,
I have no complaints with the service that they provided.
You may even have an extended hardware warranty as Lenovo ship their product with flyers .. check your paperwork.
Also your consumer rights are not affected by the warranty period .. learn those and then discuss it with Lenovo support.

  • Ideapad U410 Touch Hinge Fail

Hi. I'm located in India. Got my IdeaPad U410 Touch from the US around 1.5 years ago. Now the right side hinge came off the lid AND shattered the screen. Unable to find a replacement with the Lenovo service centre in India.
There is no email address where I can write to request for spare parts that I can have shipped to India for repairs also. Had to buy a new laptop so that work does not suffer...
    Can someone here help? Atul

  • IdeaPad U410 Recovery

    Hi,
I received my IdeaPad U410 yesterday, however it would not successfully boot into Windows. I ran a OneKey recovery which restored the system, but I note in Windows now that the two hard drives, a 750GB and 32GB SSD, that the 32GB SSD is blank.
I was wondering if this was by design, or if Windows is actually supposed to be installed on the SSD.. just slightly confused.

    Hi,
by factory installment the SSD drive is configured to be a cache drive to boost up the disk performance.
There is a small description about that in this thread: Configuring cache
    Hope it helps.

    R.
