hi razvanrudy,
Welcome to the Forums.
Regarding your questions:
1. When you tried to install Windows 8, do you get a "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key" error? If you do, you will need to follow this microsoft article on how to fix it (you will need to create a pid.txt file as discussed in this article).
If you're planning to install Windows 8 / Windows 8 Pro in UEFI Mode, ensure that you set the following in the BIOS:
Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled (if applicable)
Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled (if applicable)
See also this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8 flashdrive.
2. To install the stock Windows 8 OS (using the OA3 key in the BIOS), you will need to use a lenovo recovery disc. You will need to contact lenovo on how to obtain a copy of this disc.
If you purchased the unit in Romania, here's the contact info:
Language:  Romanian
Telephone:  Number: 031-224-4804  (Standard Charges Apply)
Hours of operation:  9AM - 6PM / Monday to Friday
Hope this helps

  • IdeaPad U510 Windows 8.1 Adaptive Brightness

My adaptive brightness seems to permanently be on. Every time something darker-than-pure-white opens or appears (ie. a dark image on a webpage, tumblr layout) the screen dims in response. I've tried everything from reinstalling/uninstalling the graphics driver, setting it to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and yes, I've turned off adaptive brightness in all power plans, but the problem still persists. I'm running out of ideas, and I can't seem to find an answered thread specifically for my model. Any ideas? I'll probably end up returning the laptop if the problem can't be solved since it's extremely noticeable (my eyes!).

Anyone got some tips? How can I contact the Lenovo support otherwise?
I am thinking of selling my Lenovo and buying another (definitely non-Lenovo) device. They always have troubles with their drivers (and have poor support)!! Something like that never happened to my Dell notebooks.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo ideapad u510 w/Fedora 19 Live USB black screen

I am having difficulty with a new lenovo ideapad u510. I am attempting to install Fedora 19 using the Fedora 19 xfce spin Live USB image, and the drive boots properly, but upon selecting the option to start Fedora 19 Live, I get a gray screen with a cursor on the top left, then two error messages that look almost idential to each other flash by, the Fedora logo starts to load, and then the screen goes blank.
The part of the error message that I was able to make out was "...failed to enable the AA(?????)"
I have attempted to turn the monitor back on using the F9 key's alternate function, and I have tried booting from DVD with the same result. Once the screen goes blank, it stays that way until I force the machine to shut down. Once I've forced the shutdown, the computer, upon turning back on, goes to the blank screen again without even loading the lenovo BIOS screen. Even the 'novo' button will not load any options for me.
My UEFI is set to Legacy / Legacy First, although the EFI setting is still Windows 8, with no alternate options. I've looked all through my settings in every tab of the BIOS and I can't find anything further to disable secure boot.
Is anybody able to assist me in installing Fedora?

    Follow up:
I have tried more flavors of linux, and over the course of doing that, I have discovered that after choosing to boot a linux live disk, the screen does not instantly go black as I had thought with the Fedora installation, but rather is reduced to 1/4 the physical size of the screen for a few seconds, then goes blank. After it goes blank, apparently, the live OS continues to load, as evidenced by the loading .wav sounds that play even after the screen is blank.
More and more I'm convinced that the graphics hardware is causing problems, but the lenovo site is completely silent about the specifics of the graphics, saying only that the hardware is nvidia GeForce series.

  • Concerning the linux operating system on the ideapad u510

    hi to everybody
i've bought  a ideapad u510 with windows 8 and i would like to install Ubuntu wubi like some application on windows8, but i don't succeed.
    please, how to do that.
please i prefer the answer in french in order to understand good procedure
    thanks

Try disabling secure boot in the BIOS. And see if wubi is able to install.. let us know if this works . Run wubi with admin previleges and make sure that wubi and the ubuntu image are in the same directory
    Cheers and regards,

  • IdeaPad u510 woes

Hi all. I'm a new guy here seeking the help of the Lenovo community. I am a proud one year owner of an Ideapad u510 ultrabook. The ideapad came with Win 8 preinstalled on it. The machine ran fine with the Pro upgrade and then the 8.1 upgrade couple of months ago. Just last week it has had a problem with booting into windows (right now it is stuck at the Lenovo splash screen - obvs I am writing this on a different computer - but yeah it has been stuck at the splash screen for 10 minutes). I have a clean system image of the ultrabook and a backup of the data on the machine so when this problem began I did a win 8 system image restore to the working image and restored the data. The computer ran great after the restore. I turned the computer off. The next day, I turned it on and it wouldn't boot into windows. It was stuck at the Lenovo splash screen for about 10 minutes then the blue Windows sad face screen appeared with a message that something bad happened, restarted, then attempted an "automatic system repair" which didn't work so the Win 8 help menu/recovery console appeared asking me if I wanted to continue booting or do troubleshooting. This time I used the Lenovo OneKey recovery to the working image I had before which successfully ran and I was able to do my work then I turned it off. Next day I get the same problems with booting into Windows (the same exact things happened). So, I thought maybe the hard drive is failing. I had a spare working hdd. I put that in, did the Lenovo OneKey recovery image restore to the new hdd. I then rebooted only to be greeted with the same problem! (10 minutes at Lenovo splash screen, restarts on own, attempts automatic repair, goes to win8 recovery console). So, I don't think the problem is with the hard drive.
Now, the original hard drive is in it. I then go back to factory defaults (the handy side button on the IdeaPad) and it was working fine, i.e., I was able to install all of the Windows 8 updates between the factory release of the u510 to today, the machine has restarted a few times successfully (installing updates) but when I powered it off then turned it back on it has been stuck at the lenovo splash screen for now 15 minutes.
Suggestions? I don't think it's a Windows problem. I'm leaning toward hardware. I've ruled out the hard drive. Is it RAM? A mobo component? A problem with UEFI?

    Hi,
I am having a similar problem. My 3 month old ideapad u510 froze last night while surfing the internet. nothing worked as far as getting shutdown menu in windows 8 to even work (just froze), so pushed power button till it turned off. immediately afterward, tried to boot by pushing power button and it just stopped booting at lenovo screen.
i've tried to boot a few times since and sometimes i see progress thing (circle of lights...similar to status bar) going other times not. i am not sure what key it is but can get to bios screen sometimes too. was hoping there was safe mode boot in bios but doesn't appear anything thats useful so didn't change anything. it just doesn't boot to windows after exiting bios.
my hunch is that i need a bootdisk or sort. importantly, would like to avoid resetting or refreshing, etc.. until have opportunity to get data off harddrive if possible. some important stuff on there that need to get off first.
    Help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J

  • Ideapad U510 shuts down instead of sleeping

I have an Ideapad U510 with Windows 8.  If I close the screen, or put it into sleep mode, it shuts down.  If I walk away from it for a few minutes then it shuts down and I have to wait for it to restart, which is a drag.  I've changed every setting I could find under power options on the control panel, nothing seems to change it.  I spend a LOT of time waiting for my computer to re-boot.  Any suggestions how I can get it to sleep rather than shut down?   Thanks for any suggestions.

I have done all of these and reset to factory defaults by One Key Recovery button. At the end I sent it to Lenovo repair center and they claimed they had fixed it by upgrading the Power Mgt software and BIOS, but in the last two days (I received it 3 days ago) it happened twice again. I believe it is a hardware issue. While this is a commonly reported issue for U510, why deosn't Lenovo still have a solution for it?
This is definetly my LAST Lenovo computer and I DO NOT recommand this brand to anyone.

  • Ideapad U510 Touchpad problem

I have bought a lenovo ideapad u510 a week before. From the very begining I am facing toucpad problem, The cursor jumps everywhere in the screen and make automatic selection all by itself. I am totally unable to control the cursor.
I have tried installing Synaptics driver after unistalling default Elan driver, but it wasn't solved a bit. I have tried by changing various options from the  Elan menu, also disabled 'Multi-finger' option.
I have bought it from Canada but now I'm far away from there. So if anyone knows the solution please help me.

Please reinstall your default touchpad driver (ELAN). According to Elan: The main cause of unexpected cursor moving or click is the accidental palm contact with the touch pad. You can adjust your Palm Tracking setting to maximum to make your touch pad insensitive to "palm contacts"

  • Ideapad z710 windows 7 wireless issue

Hello. First of all, I would like to say I love how great the products lenovo puts out there.
Second of all, I am frustrated. I just purchased a Lenovo z710 and dualbooted with Windows 7 since Windows 8 was my primary OS (ew).
So I downloaded all of the drivers necessary for the Windows 7 OS, and all of them work...but my wireless.
I am running the 64bit model of 7. I cannot get the wireless driver to work or "install" Much help would be appreciated!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There was a long thread on one of the boards here that was about the exact same issue but on a different laptop.
Turned out the problem was UEFI, but they were doing it with an SSD. In there case UEFI had to be updated.
But there is another thread specifically with your exact same issues.
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/ideapad-z710-windows-7-wireless/td-p/12718...
There are some solutions there that may work for you.
As for the company not caring about any software other than windows 8, if you get right down to it, the system worked perfectly well with the supplied OS, it was your choice to downgrade. Did you check to see if this was possible before purchasing the system? I feel the same way as most of you probably do, I like Windows 7 much more than Windows 8. Windows 8.1 is kind of a median version between the two. If you don't have a touch screen, it still is not fun. But Windows 7 mainstream support ends in January and extended support dies in January 2020. That means after January you will have to pay Microsoft to get help with windows. If you look around you will find that ALL manufacturers have either totally stop selling systems with Windows 7 or are pretty close to it. And I can assure you after January they will stop all sales of Windows 7. At that point if there are not drivers for your devices, chances are pretty good there never will be. Very few OEM's continue writing drivers for operating systems that are in the process of being phased out.

  • IdeaPad U510 Low Battery Beep

Has there been a fix for the IdeaPad U510 system beep sound when the battery reaches 10%? This is a pretty serious fault IMO.

    hi j2014,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you try pulling up Device Manager /
Click View on top of Device Manager Window and click on Show Hidden devices,
Open Non Plug and Play Devices and rightclick on beep option and select Disable.
also Open Power Option and Advanced Power Option of your preferred Power Plan,
Look for Battery and open it.
set all parameters to  (0/zero) - do nothing.
Saved all changes and Restart See if it will make the beep still on Lowbattery.

  • Ideapad U510 Battery Stuck at 94%

    Hi,
I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad U510 just yesterday, but when I charge it, it does not charge past 94%. The status remains at 94% plugged in and charging, but it doesn't actually change even after an hour or two.
I have tried unplugging to 10% and then recharging but again it got stuck at 94%. And yes I have checked the energy mangement and it is on Maximum Battery Life.
Should I drain the battery completely and then try recharging?
Is there a way to fix it to charge all the way to 100% or is it a problem with the computer itself? Thank you.

Drain the battery first and then try again. Probably this is also maybe happening to prevent battery detoriation. So this can be normal.

  • How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

    Hello!
Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.
    Thanks!

  • Boot Camp Windows install format to NTFS not working.

As a preface I am new to Apple and more complex computer issues in general. With that said I have spent several hours trying to get Windows 8.1 installed from the DVD media to a partition created using Boot Camp Assistant. I have tried several suggestions and looked through many threads, blogs and articles and none seem to have the correct answer. Below are the steps that I have followed and the issue that I run into every time.
    Open Boot Camp Assistant
Select Download the latest Windows support software from Apple
Select Install Windows 7 or later version
Download support software to USB Drive (leave connected)
         Create a Partition (200GB)
Hold Option on Reboot and Select Windows
    Begin the Windows install process
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
Installation asks: Where do you want to install Windows?
Select Drive 0 partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Error Message Details:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.
Solution I found from many threads is that I need to "Format" the partition. To do so I:
Select Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Select Format
Select Drive 0 Partition 4 (No longer titled as BOOTCAMP after the reformat)
              Error Message Details:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
I cant seem to find a solution to this. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried removing all other connected drives and devices, and recreating the partition several times with no luck.
    Machine Info:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Mac (27-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I also have VMware Fusion installed on the machine and already used the Windows installation media to create a virtual machine. Is it possible to transfer my virtual machine to a Boot Camp partition? I did a little research and it looks as though thats not possible (at least not easily) but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm still working to get a solution so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
The installation media I purchased is for windows 8.1. Is that the issue? Do I need to install 8 not 8.1?

  • Problems with Windows install and erasing Boot camp partition.

I recently decided I'd try running a copy of XP on my Macbook, the only reason being that the software for my OU work is only available on Windows. I used Boot camp assistant to partition my hard drive which went smoothly. When I tried to install Windows, I get to the Windows install screen, and it says "Press enter to begin installation". Unfortunately, my keyboard doesn't seem to work, so obviously I can't begin the installation. I've tried using my old Apple USD keyboard, but it didn't make any difference. I thought I'd try the whole process from scratch, but found I can't erase the original partition. I've read that you should use Boot camp assistant again, but when I press the continue key, I get the message:
"The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
Does anybody know a way of sorting either of these problems out? Much appreciated.

I've been doing a bit more reading into the problem. I think the keyboard problem's because I'm not using the SP2 version on XP. So hopefully once I get a copy, I should be able to sort it. But I still can't seem to use BCA to erase the partition.

Do any of you have any ideas as to what might be the problem.
    Many thanks,

    Hi David,
Thanks for getting back to me.  One question, Do I need to install CMS seperately or the does
         the BusinessObjects installs it?
When I did the BusinessObjects install it installed the Microsoft SQL server 2008 Express and created an
SQL Server Instance named BOE140.  I checked with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (which I downloaded from Microsoft) and saw that no tables were created.
         Regarding the message
"(.\crypto.cpp:199). (FALSE : digest exception: The FIPS140 shared library could not be found (10027))."
listed in the log file above,  what is my system missing.
Looks like CMS is not getting installed.
I am doing the install on a VMware Windows 2008 system with 8 GB ram and 50 GB file space.
Are there any special requirements of configuration on the Windows system?
         Thanks for your help,
         Arvind
