IdeaPad U530 Webcam - is this a joke?

Hey guys,
just bought a new Lenovo IdeaPad U530. I was pretty happy until I check the built in "HD Webcam".
The quality has absolutely nothing to do with HD, I think I would have a better quality recording with a potato!
Since it came with Windows 8.1 I had to download the gorgeous "Lenovo Settings App" (seriously?!?!?) because it was not preinstalled (!!!), so I had to sign up for a hotmail account... - I was promised by the description that I could modify the Webcam settings with it. Yeah... well, even Skype offered me more options than this app!
One (and probably the most important) thing I was not able to change was the video quality. I googled a lot and all I could find was a few people complaining about the video quality and some blogs claiming that it is possible to modify the quality with the lenovo Communications Utility from the ThinkVantage package. When I finally got it to run under Windows 8.1, all I could modify was the Microphone volume...
I have the latest drivers installed, I have tried everything I could find on Google, but it either does not work on Windows 8.1 or doesn't work at all.
Dear Lenovo, please tell me that this is some kind of compatibility issue or something, because I can't really believe that you would actually title this as an "HD Webcam". The quality is plain unacceptable, but my work requires a reliable, lightweight laptop (check) with a decent webcam (fail!), because that's what I bought it for.
I've been using and recommending Lenovo products for many years now - even the low price laptops come with better webcams!
Or maybe you can tell me how to fix this, because after 2 days of pure frustration I'm all out of ideas.
Thanks in advance!

I'd thought of that & tried E-V-E-R-Y permutation of "Apartment 5" -- APT 5/Apt. 5/Apt. #5/APT. #5/ etc., etc., etc ....
I don't remember how it was written when the card got registered.
Why can't I access my account here on this website to fix it up?
Thank you fir the QUICK gelp, by the way.
And just so you know, I didn't curse in my original message -- I typed the letter "B" & the letter "S", that's all.

  • Ideapad U530 camera has terrible image quality

I purchased an IdeaPad U530 touch a few weeks ago and have found the webcam image is terrible.  I am not talking a little dark or a little grainy, I am talking absolutely terrible.  Very blotchy.  It almost looks like it is below 640x480, way below.   Lighting doesn't help.  The computer has Windows 8.1 and there are no settings that I can find anywhere to make any adjustments to the camera image.  They took out the advanced settings in W8.1 camera so I am stuck.   Are there any settings that I can do to fix this?  As it is, the camera is unusable because the image is so bad.  I have looked online high and low to find a solution and I can't find any way to fix it other than buying a USB camera and ignoring the webcam that I paid for when I bought the computer.

I also have a U530 touch with windows 8.1 and the camera is very grainy running the standard camera app.  I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling the camera driver but no change.  I did notice however that the smaller cam preview in skype seems fine and sharp.
Pictures taken with the camera app in windows is grainy but the picture size is 1280x720.  So it is taking pictures as the proper resolution but the quality is unacceptable.

  • U530 webcam not working

    Hi there!
Having issues with my U530 webcam. It has completely stopped working. In the Device Manager, it says everything is working fine.
However, I start up any application where I can use the webcam, and it does not work. I have tried updating camera drivers, updating video drivers, unistalling the camera, you name it. Nothing is working.
Here's the message I get when I try running camera.exe in Windows:
Here's the event log for camera.exe:
I've even gone as far as seeing if it was malware, which it is not. Can someone PLEASE help? I'm ready to tear my hair out!

    Hi sdesharnais,
Since no one else has an idea, I think you should check the Windows System File Integrity. It appears to me that the main Windows Camera application may be corrupted.
You may want to run the check, and repair, system file command.  See this MS Wiki for how to do it:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-system/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-...
    Let us know your results.

  • Problems with touch screen in ideapad U530

I Have a Ideapad U530. The touch screen worked a few hours, after having purchased and then I stop. I saw that had disappeared the "Pen and Touch" and Tablet PC in the Control Panel folder.
I went back to recover the system at the time had arrived from the factory and the laptop returned to work a few hours, this time with the Pen and Touch and the Tablet PC in the Control Panel. Then returned to stop working and disappeared again both drivers.
I need to find a solution to this problem.
    Can I help me?

    Hi Adrileb,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that your U530 Laptop touch screen is not working as expected even after performing “System Restore” in the computer, I suggest re-installing display driver from our Support Website and check if the issue persists and while installing the driver right click on the downloaded file and select “Run as administrator” option to get it installed without any error. Below is the link to download the relevant drivers for U530:
Drivers and software - IdeaPad U530 Touch
Do post us back if the issue persists.
    Best Regards

  • Will a 802.11ac USB adapter work on IdeaPad U530?

I recently purchased an IdeaPad U530.  Around the same time, I purchased a NetGear Nighthawk AC 1900 Dual Ban (R7000) router.  All of my other devices connect no problem to the 5ghz wifi network from the router.  I realized the 5ghz band didn't show up on my U530, but the 2.4 ghz network appears.
I did some investigation and found my new Lenovo laptop has a 7260 b/g/n card.  I thought, "That will be a simple fix, I will just replace it with an AC card."  Then I read:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/IdeaPad-u530-upgrade-to-802-11ac/td-p/13106...
       and
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/WWAN-and-wireless-card-BIOS-whitelists-Lenovo-COME-O...
That was when I "unhappily" learned about Lenovo's "whitelists" for the first time.  I'm shocked that in 2014 I simply can't replace the wifi card in a laptop.  Had I learned about this sooner, the Lenovo would have gone back to BestBuy on principle.
I'm a basic user and I don't have the technical skill or time to deal with flashing BIOS, etc. . . so I have three questions.
    1.  Will the Lenovo U530 allow me to use one of the 802.11ac USB adapters?
    2.  Any recommendations on which USB adapter to use?
    3.  Do I have to deactivate the Intel 7260 card before using the USB adapter?  If so, how do I do that?
    Thanks!

    1.  Will the Lenovo U530 allow me to use one of the 802.11ac USB adapters?
IMHO why not? I use a usb dual wifi adapter myself although it's only a,b,g,n. It is more efficient than the built-in card.
    2.  Any recommendations on which USB adapter to use?
Try going to Netgear's site and look for an AC dual band usb adapter to match your Netgear AC router.
    3.  Do I have to deactivate the Intel 7260 card before using the USB adapter?  If so, how do I do that?
To avoid getting the system confused and make the setup of the usb adapter easier I think you can disable wifi in the bios. You will still have bluetooth functioning.

  • Will a webcam do this??

Have a small dance studio and need to have a wide angle camera to film the dancer and show what's happening on a large plasma (instead of using a mirror wall) Quality of image not too important
.... Would be useful if there was an option to record the footage sometimes to the PC.
If not possible - no prob as I have an HD Vado - but I cannot use that for showing live cam shots on the plasma
    Help appreciated
    Thanks

    EITel,
Which webcam do you have in mind?
There is a Record Video function on the bundled webcam software, this allows you to capture video using the webcam.

  • What is going on here? Is this a joke or sheer arrogance?

Is this a joke or what?
    Buko's thread,

    Disappears... then reappears!
    The thread:
"Forum Comments forum is the new Lounge thread" has vanished....
Who is this moderator who's playing havoc?
Posts have been deleted with no explanation... what is going on?

I'm starting to get paranoid.  Yesterday I replied to a post and today the entire thread is gone.  Threads disappear.  No spam, no profanity, no reason.  And WHY do the entire threads go instead of just the offensive post/reply?  That makes no sense.
It just keeps getting worse instead of improving.

  • FileVault ***... It needs 4,080 GB to encript files?  Is this a joke?

I have a 12" powerbook with a 80 GB hard drive. Thought I would activate filevault to make my files more secure. When I activate FileVault it thinks for a minute and them tells me I need 4,080 GB to complete encription. That is four thousand eighty gigibites... Is this a Joke? Is Apple now making hard drives with this much capacity? This message is beyond my comprehension. I am flabbergasted! I could go on but I am too disgusted.
Would appreciate any insight that anybody can provide.

    Hi Mike,
This is quite a well known 'glitch'.
Irrespective of the erroneous message I would seriously reconsider whether Filevault is right for you. Dr Smoke's page on Data Corruption has some sound advice on the subject.
    Have fun,

ALL MY FONTS ARE GONE IN PS CS6, EXCEPT "APPLE BRAILLE" - IS THIS A JOKE OR A VIRUS?  HELP~

It's neitehr a joke nor a virus. You simply have a "bad" font on your system somewhere and it's whacking out the entire font list. Remove any extranuous fonts you may have added recently. If you use a font manager, check that, too.

  • Ideapad U530 screen flicker

I recently bought the U530 with full HD touchscreen. I've noticed that the screen flickers when on battery, and it is especially noticeable in areas of the screen with dark colours. It's not a major flicker, but seems like ripples across the screen. Changing the screen refresh rate to 64Hz from 48Hz seems to make it better, but not completely.
Is this just a software issue or should I think about taking it in to get looked at?

Yup! I've been noticing the same issue on MY laptop too! I don't know why. It flickers very slightly if the screen is on its lower brightness levels. It slowly flickers brighter if the screen get bright (like if a Word document is open) and then it flickers darker on darker screens. I don't know how to fix it! I've already disabled the automatic brightness adjuster and still no results. Does anybody know a fix? or at least the cause? I'm sure it must be a driver of some sort seeing as there is no BIOS update.

  • LENOVO IDEAPAD G555 webcam Terrible picture

I bought this a couple of days ago. Out of the box, the camera is absolutely the worst I have ever seen.  Adjusting the settings did not help. Can someone please tell me how to get the camera setup so that it works at least as well as my 5 years old external for $20?

My G555 looks great. On XP and Win7. Maybe there is something wrong with yours. I also have seen where different models come with different MP cams. It's possible yours maybe the .3 and not the 1.3
