Ideapad y650 cannot change brightness

Here's an interesting one. I have an old y650 running windows 8 and I can't change the brightness settings. This just recently began happening, but I don't know what would have caused it. I have not changed any settings to the computer I've linked a video of me pressing the brightness hotkey. As you can see, it goes back and forth from dim and bright, but no in-between. It's the same way in power management when I change the slider. I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers, power management, and disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard ribbon, but it has not resolved the issue. Have you also installed Flash Cards Support Utility? Normally you need this tool as well for using FN keys. You can download it on the official Toshiba page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
As far as I know its available for X300 too If not you can download it from another notebook series. Just search a little bit.
From my own experience I can tell you that Flash Cards Support Utility could solve all my FN key problems. :)

Cannot change brightness on Qosmio X300-14X

Hi guys,
I've been messing aroung with drivers, TVAP to finally get my laptop working ok but unfortunately without any luck.
The current situation is this:
-I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
-Display drivers are installed correctly
-TVAP has been also installed
-Nvidia control panel can see my nvidia SLI
I can do all the functions with the FN key EXCEPT from one... the brightness.
I cannot change my brightness with the FN keys or through windows 7 power management and i can't figure out whether its a VAP problem or the nvidia drivers.
What else can i do? Should i wait for the drivers or is there any other solution?

Macbook screen is dim and cannot change brightness

For the last couple of days, my macbook's screen has been more dim than normal, and i haven't been able to change it. Nothing happens when i press F2 or FN+F2. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with having the macbook connected to my samsung lcd tv via a mini display to HDMI adapter. It's not connected anymore, but it's been happening since i've done that.
When i go to display settings, there is no setting for brightness.
Please help! this is so hard on my eyes!

If that does not work then i would suggest resetting the PRAM (which stores system settings)
However before you do so make sure you understand what you are going to loose, so read up about it here first:

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Cannot change brightness in windows 8.1

Suddenly my brightness controls stopped working suddenly after a reboot, whereby changing the brightnes using the hotkeys or in the setting only moves the brightness indicator but doesn't acctually change the brightness.
Here is what I tried but didn't work:
Adding EnableBrightnessControl in the registery
Disabling adaptive (automatic) brightness
Repairing boot camp drivers through the USB disk I installed them at
Reinstalling windows using the same USB in boot camp
After the troubleshooting I'm guessing that the drivers in the USB disk are corrupted, however I don't know how to reinstall them again without reinstalling windows along-which I don't plan in doing agian.
I'm using Boot Camp 5.1.2

Update: for a moment I was able to change the brightness after launching a full screen app, however after the next reboot i wasn't able to do so and the fix won't work anymore.

LI2321s Display - Cannot change brightness or contrast

I have a brand new Lenovo 23" display, model LI2321swA
I'm using it via the VGA port with my Macintosh.
When I try to adjust the brightness or contrast of the monitor using the OSD, I
can change the settings, but they have no affect on the brightness or contrast
of the display. How do I get the monitor to accept the changes?

IdeaPad Y650: Cannot use Camera and Microphone on Windows 7

Hi,
When I bought this laptop, these two works fine in windows vista. But after I reinstall the machine with windows 7, the internal camera and microphone are no longer recognized by the system. I tried to install the drivers from lenovo website, but there is only windows vista / xp driver. I tried windows vista driver for camera and microphone but still not work.
How should I make my camera+microphone work on windows 7?

My camera and mic work fine. When I installed Win7 I did not do a clean install. I just upgraded from the Vista 64 installation that came preinstalled. I've been pleasantly suprised to find that everything works beautifully. Actually better than it did in Vista. Maybe try restoring your Vista installation (if possible, I haven't tried the onekey restore feature) and then install Win7 as an upgrade.
This is just a suggestion - I have not tested this!

Hi i cannot change the brightness on my late 2011 macbook pro. It is stuck on the lowest level in which i can't view the screen without a flash light. Please i need help how to solve this. I was on my computer when i checked the back which it was really dusty, i tried unscrewing the bottom however some screws were too tight so i took it upon myself and got a rod and startedremoving the dust off the vents and i may have clicked something as i closed the lid on the macbook i could hear the sounds still from the film but the lid was closed as i opened it back up the brightness was on low but sounds were still playing. All the buttons work , all of the F keys, apart from the brightnes keys. I can shine a tourch on the screen and see the display but the brightness will not change but i can see when i click the brightness it says it changes. I have connected it to a spare tv i have via hdmi and i really need help as this is my primary computer and i need it for work when going away. Thank you

I just unpacked my HP PC and cannot find any menu where I could change brightness, contrast within the PC or shortcut and designated buttons to do so without using power options and settings.

Click once on the desktop then hit the F1 key for help. Type in monitor brightness.

I understand that since you upgrade from Windows 7 Home to Windows 7 Ultimate you have been unable to adjust the screen brightness using the Functions keys. I would suggest that you download and install the newest version of the HP Support Assistant which if you follow the HP Support document: Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7) should get you all the newest drivers for your computer.

Completely unsolvable: Cannot change screen brightness after I upgraded my ThinkPad's display.

I have a ThinkPad X240 which came with a 1366x768 TN panel, I hated it and so after a while I upgraded it to an IPS 1080p display. It works great and looks fantastic except it's stuck on max brightness inside of Windows 8.1. I cannot change the brightness inside of Intel HD graphics settings or inside of programs like Display Tuner. It doesn't work in Windows 10 either. The weird thing is, I can change the brightness just fine inside of Ubuntu. I've tried uninstalling the Intel HD drivers and reinstalling them, I've tried switching the drivers to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and none has worked. I feel like I've installed every single version of Intel's Graphics Drivers and that I've done everything and it still won't change the bloody brightness. NOTHING has worked except to just use Ubuntu, which is not an adequate solution. I've even gone as far as to update my BIOS and reset it to defaults, I've even pulled the CMOS battery. I've tried the version of the Intel HD driver from Lenovo for the X240 and I've installed the monitor.ini files. I've also just learned that during the Windows Boot Logo, the FN keys WILL change the brightness, but as soon as Windows is done booting, it stops working. This, coupled with the fact that brightness control works in Ubuntu means that this must be something related to Windows right? Brightness control works in BIOS. I've even gone so far as to try and change the brightness through CMD using powercfg according to this post. http://superuser.com/questions/472081/can-i-force-a-greater-screen-brightness-from-windows-command-prompt I'm really starting to lose patience now as it has been like this for 3 weeks and I can't be using Ubuntu all of the time, I honestly do not know what to do, it seems like this problem is completely unsolvable. Then (I know this is a bad idea) WHILE IT WAS ON, I pulled the old display and put connected the new one. And lo and behold, the brightness **bleep**ING worked in windows on the new display.

Brand New IdeaPad Y650 and Windows 7 Install

Hello,
I just purchased a IdeaPad Y650 and have a couple of questions before I install Windows 7(I have MSDN subscription). I have read that the One Key Recovery feature is no longer supported in Windows 7, is this true? If so, is there any point in maintaining the reserved partition on the hard drive?
If this is the case, I plan to merge the reserved partition with the D: drive and install Windows 7 on the C: drive. Anyone see any problems with this setup?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Question: before you install windows 7 on your Y650, do you have all the necessary/proper DRIVERS?
What if you install Windows 7 and the network card does not work? What will you do?
A suggestion: get an inexpensive spare laptop hard disk ( the prices have really come down lately) and replace your Y650 hard disk with that spare drive and THEN install Windows 7 on it.
Test it for awhile making sure everything works...read the forums for the latest bugs/fixes....then if you need a driver, check the support site for Vista drives as those should work with Win7.
Not sure about One Key still working after installing Win 7 on the original disk....if you have not changed partition sizes and it does start, i would expect it to reformat & re-install the original bare bones OS that came with the machine.
One last item: if you put Win7 on your new machine, no tech support from the manufacture! ( unless they offer an upgrade to that OS later..)..

I use Xorg Server version 1.10.4 (problem is in 1.11 version too, anyway).
If I change brightness using multimedia key several times up and down my screen do weird things and I need reboot my machine. I didn't change this often, but problem is a long time.

There is no such thing. You cannot upgrade the video. It is part of the motherboard. Sorry.

I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Yes it sounds like you have a corrupted preference file.
The setting you make in individual programs get saved to a Preference file in your Users/Library/Preferences folder.
All you have to do is drag out the old file to the desktop, reboot and load the program and the preference file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
For your case I beleive the preference file is
com.apple.desktop.plist

Can you reply with a screenshot showing exactly what it is you're trying to change? Is it a setting of a printer in the Device tab or is it something in the "Settings" dropdown menu at the top right of the screen below?
