Ideapad Z570 potential RAM upgrade or processor - help!

Hi all, I have a Lenovo Z570 with a i7-26700QM @2.2 GHZ, 8GB RAM and a Nvidia GeForce GT540M. I've started playing some games such as Dayz running on lowish settings. Obviously, these are big RAM users, so I;ve been looking into the possibility of upgrading the RAM to 16GB which according to these forums has been done despite the fact maximum ram is meant to be 8GB.
I was wondering if it's worth me upgrading the RAM or if it might be better for me to upgrade the processor/graphics. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Also, if RAM is the preferential choice, could anyone point me in the direction of which ones to buy? The last few threads have been slightly out dated.
Thanks.

You're very welcome, Chris.
It is like that for all of the dc5xxx and dc7xxx business desktops.
HP made a change to that when the 8000 Elite business desktops came out.
You can put any size memory you want in each slot, and you won't get any errors, but the PC's memory will run in something called 'Flex Mode" which basically means DDR mode is disabled.
The dc5xxx and dc7xxx models just give you the 5 beeps and won't go any further until the memory is properly configured.
In order to run in DDR mode, you need matching capacities of memory in slots 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 for all HP business desktops.
Best Regards,
Paul

  • Ideapad Yoga 11s RAM Upgrade Trouble

I bought the computer about a month ago and it has 4GB.  I bought an 8GB stick to upgrade and I'm having trouble removing the keyboard.  I've watched a few videos regarding how to remove the keyboard and upgrade the RAM and the problem I'm having is that for some reason the corners of the keyboard closest to the monitor aren't popping out.  I've been able to pop the keyboard out in the middle, but near the delete and escape keys there is not wiggle room and I don't want to bend anything there.  Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any helpful tips?

Thanks, RAM upgrade went offf without a hitch!

  • Will a ram upgrade help this computer.

My family has a 2008 iMac that I never use but my father uses for pictures, Skype etc. The specs are as follows
    iMac
      Model Identifier:           iMac8,1
Processor Name:           Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:           2.66 GHz
      Number of Processors:               1
      Total Number of Cores:               2
      L2 Cache:           6 MB
      Memory:           2 GB
Its running OSX 10.10.2 will a ram upgrade drastically help the performance, it is currently using 1.98 GB of 2 GB of ram when idle, any help would be appreciated 4 GB of ram needed or push it to 6 GB I read on OWC that it can accept 6 GB clarification on that would help. Sorry for the weird question I am a linux/windows user and I am not very knowledgeable with OSX.

2GB of RAM is the minimum system requirements to run Yosemite, 10.10.x. To get a better user experience upgrade the RAM on the 2008 iMac to 6GB, OWC (www.macsales.com) makes a kit for doing so. The link is listed below. You can also contact Crucial.com and they will sell a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1x4GB DIMM (6GB total) however they don't sell the two together as a kit.
The machine currently has 2 x 1GB DIMMs installed, therefore to get to 6GB both DIMMs need to be replaced.

  • HP Envy 13 1030nr. Windows 7 64-bit. RAM upgrade help.

I just purchased a RAM upgrade for my Envy 13 and I was trying to figure out how exactly to access the memory module.  I couldn't find a youtube video for the Envy 13 and reading the maintenance manual provides only partial instructions to access the memory module.  It tells you what you need to do (Disconnect the TouchPad cable 2 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board) but not how to do it without damaging the computer.  I don't want to permanently sever a cable or anything so I'm looking for help via a link to a video or more detailed instructions on exactly how to safely access the memory module.
I was under the impression that this would be a quick replacement, but the more I read the manual, the more I think that this is going to be a little more complicated than opening up the bottom and removing the current RAM chip and replacing it with the one I have.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here is the Manual:

Memory is indeed on the motherboard and getting there requires nearly complete disassembly. See Page 4-26. Not sure how this qualifies as "easy" and if you have not done this before you should get some help. And yes, keep careful track of those screws.

the most improving effect on 'speed' is distributed media:
System/App, Projects, Events, Cache, backups on diff. platters. Esp. when using compounds/multicams, each 'angle' on its own drive...
To improve 'rendering' = export speed, the graphic card is the limiting factor.

  • I have a Presario CQ56-115DX. I attempted a ram upgrade now I only get bsod.Help?

I recently attemptede a ram upgrade to 2-4 GB PC3 DDR3 1066Mhz modules but the notebook would not turn on(aka.....black screen and no sound, just blinking caps lock). I then put the original RAM back into the previously working pc and it blue screened. I attempted a system repair with a factory OEM of windows 7 but it was unsuccessful. The error tells me to remove or uninstall newly added software or hardware. I ran a memtest from bios on both the memory and the hard drive which detected no problems. I reformatted the hard drive and attempted a reinstall but the computer blue-screened during installation before the files were even installed. Could someone please help?

Try install with just one memory module installed, try the other slot if it does not work on the first try.

  • Can I upgrade my processor on dv6835nr laptop

    Hi:
It would be hard for me to say if upgrading the processor will make a significant difference in performance.
I have never installed a processor in a notebook PC myself, so I cannot give you any first hand tips.
The information to remove and replace the processor can be found in the service manual.
You cannot upgrade the video adapter.
You can upgrade the memory, but there wouldn't be much improvement there because your notebook has 3 GB already, to just replace the 1 GB chip with a 2 GB chip.
In order to really go beyond that, you would have to puchase a 64 bit operating system, and install 2 x 4 GB of memory which the memory alone would cost over $200.00.
As far as the newer BIOS, it is possible the notebook automatically updated it once after you got it.

  • SAP App server on windows uses paging not RAM... need help

    Experts,
We have installed a separate SAP application server on windows 2003 service pack 2. Our server has 25 GB Ram and 2 processors each with 4 cores. We have set the extended memory of SAP to 5 GB. Now, the problem is that: when we start the SAP instance on this machine then it is taking memory from Paging not From RAM. We have paging set to 20 GB and if we examine the server then our RAM is free and paging is in used by SAP instance. Our SAP version is ERP 6.0 and NW 7.01
Please guide and help me so that SAP instance on our windows machine utilize RAM not paging.
    Thanks,,
    Yasir

I highly suggest upgrading to Windows 2008 (R2).
Windows 2003 has known issues with huge amounts of shared memory which can't be fixed in that old OS. You may decrease this effect with
Note 1009297 - Windows Server 2003 Family: High Paging Rates
The effect is also indirectly described in
Note 1316558 - System hang situations on Windows Server 2003
Upgrade to Windows 2008 (R2), Windows 2003 is almost 10 years old. It's like you would use Windows 98 on a todays PC.

  • Hard drive and RAM upgrade

Hi I would like to know what are the maximum upgrades I can have on my laptop in RAM, hard drive and if possible processor. It is a HP pavilion dv8219ea with a Hewlett-Packard 30A6 56.24 board. Can you let me know the size and speed of both the RAM and hard drive and guide me to how to upgrade my processor. at the moment it is a 1.67 gigahertz Intel Core Duo with 64 kilobyte primary memory cache and 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache. Thank you

    Thanks for all the help.
It is a kernel panic and unfortunately it can be caused by a bunch of things. But I think I have it figured out for now.
My first step was to put the old RAM back in with the new HD, no change with the problem.
Then I put the old HD back in with the old RAM (original config) and everything was back to normal.
Then I tried the new RAM with the old HD and everything is also good. (and faster!)
So it would appear that the new HD was flakey and needs to go back to OWC.
Hey, I'm a pro at taking apart and rebuilding a Mini now!

  • I WANT TO UPGRADE MY PROCESSOR

Hello, pls i'm asking to know the possibility of upgrading my processor from AMD A6-3430MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics to an A10 processor, which will boost the strength of my gaming...is it possible to buy only the A10 processor and replace it on my A6 because the current processor does not support most of my gaming needs while i have enough video graphics memory (1.5gb Radeon). However, i also want to know the amount of maximum RAM the computer can accomodate because currently i have 6gb RAM and i'm thinking of upgrading it to 8gb. Will these changes affect the computer negatively? or what? because i think it the best economical option for me rather than waiting to buy a bigger laptop with a higher processor...Games that require such high specs include upcoming Watchdogs, Need for Speed Rivals, Call of Duty ghost, Upcoming Hitman 6, and so many others...

Upgrading to an AMD A10 processor is a no-go. The following CPU's are compatible with your systemboard.
Reference source: HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment notebook Maintenence & service Guide
    AMD® A8-3550MX 2.70-GHz processor (2.00-GHz
    FSB, 4.0-MB L2 cache, quad core, 45 W)

    AMD A8-3530MX 2.60-GHz processor, (1.90-GHz
    FSB, 4.0-MB L2 cache, quad core, 45 W)

    AMD A8-3520M 1.60-GHz processor (2.50-GHz FSB,
    4.0-MB L2 cache, quad core, 35 W)

    AMD A6-3430MX 2.40-GHz processor (1.70-GHz
    FSB, 4.0-MB L2 cache, quad core, 45 W)

    AMD A6-3420M 2.40-GHz processor (1.50-GHz FSB,
    4.0-MB L2 cache, quad core, 45 W)

    AMD A4-3330MX 2.60-GHz processor (2.40-GHz
    FSB, 2.0-MB L2 cache, dual core, 45 W)

    AMD A4-3320MX 2.60-GHz processor (2.00-GHz
    FSB, 2.0-MB L2 cache, dual core, 45 W)

    AMD A4-3305M 2.50-GHz processor (1.90-GHz FSB,
    4.0-MB L2 cache, dual core, 45 W)

    AMD E2-3000M 2.40-GHz processor (1.80-GHz FSB,
    4.0-MB L2 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Upgrading to 8Gb is doable. Make sure that you replace the memory modules that are currently installed with an identical pair of guaranteed compatible 4GB memory modules. That will let you run the modules in dual channel mode.  Use only memory modules from well known memory manufacturers. Corsair, Hynix, Kingston, OCZ, Samsung.

  • IdeaPad Yoga 11S SSD upgrade

    Hello there.
I have an IdeaPad Yoga 11S, and the OEM 128GB SSD is running out of space.
I believe the OEM SSD is a 1.8-inch drive. So if I were to get a larger SSD, would it have to be 1.8" as well, or could I use a 2.5" drive instead?
I already have a 2.5" 500 GB hybrid drive that might work well, or I might just go buy a new SSD...but the 2.5" drives are cheaper and more widely available than the 1.8" drives.

This seems like a helpful place to begin:

I am looking to upgrade the ram and am thinking about buying another 2 gb ram card from toshiba or pcworld.
i have looked around and am thinking of buying a amd turion x2 ultra zm-84, But am not sure if this would help.

  • Upgrade C710TU Processor?

    Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my Presario C710TU laptop. I am planning on installing a 250GB HDD and 2GB of RAM, but my main concern is the processor.
I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade the processor and if so, what processors will work on my computer?
    Cheers,

Which processor is currently installed? Probably a Celeron
You need this Service and Maintenence Guide.
Look at Section 1. Any of the processors listed are options listed in the manual so they will work. The upgrade  processor  must be Socket P. An Intel Core2 duo T8300 2.40-GHz processor, 3-MB L2 cache will make a world of difference. You will not believe that it is the same notebook.
