Ideas for a colour-based overview page

Does anyone have any good ideas of how to create a page that is an overview of a production facility? It would be based on 1 or 2 tables, updated once each minute, and would show the status of each of 176 production units. Each unit would need to show 2 or 3 bits of information: they could all be colour-coded or all except one, which could be numeric. Ideally you would be able to click on the unit to go to detail pages on that unit. The colour codes could be simply colour or could be icons; there are probably advantages in each.
Any thoughts on how to construct something like this?
I should admit that I am still quite new to ADF. Using 11.1.1.2 at the moment but maybe 11.1.1.4 in a month or two.

Ideas For A Text-Based Game

I tried working on Graphics a while ago, but I didn't have too much luck with that ;)
Just wondering if anyone here has any ideas about a 'fun' text-based game, that wouldn't be really based on RPG style stuff, because I don't really want to bother with having characters save and stuff(I kno how to though...)
Something like Rock/Paper/Siscors(spelling? lol), but kinda more adicting...oh right, forgot to tell you...idea for a MULTIPLAYER text-based game ;)

Big physical image size for thumbnails on blog overview page

I have a problem with the physical size of the thumbnails on the blog overview page with iWeb '08 (version 2.0.3):
In my blog overview page- see http://web.mac.com/steinfatt/site/Blog/Blog.html - the thumbnails are displayed with a width of about 182 px, but the images are not resized to this width by iWeb. iWeb only sets the width-attribute in the img-tag to this size, but the images themselves have a width of 630 px. As a result 878 KB of image data is loaded with the blog overview page.
On the single pages of every blog entry iWeb resizes all pictures to the appropriate width of 400 px.
The original images have a width between 621 and 2560 px and are transferred directly from iPhoto to iWeb via the media browser.
Does anybody know about this issue and are there any solutions or work arrounds?

To which size should I resize the images? And why does iWeb '08 resize my images to a 400 px width for the blog pages with a single message, but does not so for the blog overview page?
I think, iWeb '08 should also resize the images to the appropriate value on the blog overview page (in my case to a width of 182 px).

Supressing Drag&Drop for Assignment Blocks in Overview Page

Hi Experts,
in the standard setup it is possible to change the order of assignment blocks in a Web UI Overview page by means of drag and drop. Does anybody know how this feature can be suppressed if not desired?

Hi,
one solution is to deactivate this in the customizing of the businessrole.
Add function profile PERSONALIZATION with value ALL_DISABLED to disable all personalization functionality.
There are some other values possible like:
WA_ENABLED or PP_ENABLED
Just test a little bit arround which is the correct one for your requirement. ALL_DISABLED deactivates all personalization.

Data loss popup for cancel button on overview page

Hi Experts,
Data loss popup generally appears on UI, when i try to navigate with out saving the changes. This is a standard SAP behaviour.
But, i come across the requirement where this data loss popup should also appear on clicking the 'Cancel' button on overview page on UI.
I understood that, this popup will be triggered by the methods ON_BEFORE_WA_CONTENT_CHANGE & IF_BSP_WD_EVENT_HANDLER~HANDLE_EVENT of the window impl class.
Please suggest how can i make this popup work in case of Cancel button as well.

Usually when you click the "Cancel" button that means you don't want to save your entry... hence displaying the dataloss popup doesn't make really sense to me. However, you may want the user to confirm that he really wants to cancel.
So I would suggest to redefine the EH_ON_CANCEL method of your view, to display a simple confirmation popup before you actually cancel everything. This wiki will show you how to do it:

Ideas for a Java based Project

Hi all :)
I follow Java forums, mainly read, although post a bit whenever i know.
I am looking for some ideas on starting a College project which is based on java. Maybe java network based? Since there are so many experienced people here, i was wondering if some of you could tell me some ideas that i could do. I have a fair bit of experience with java. But if the project requires to learn something new...i wont mind at all. I would really appreciate you guys input about any ideas.

Ideas for restricting content based on security

I am relatively new to the Oracle UCM world, so please be gentle...
I'm looking to move a current website over to Oracle UCM, and this website currently has a logon functionality. I believe our plan is to use the current Oracle security model to mimic the current login functionality. The current website is designed as two "seperate" sites (one for the public, and one for the registered users), but is reproducing some content across both versions of the site. Obviously, moving to content server, we could share the same content. The problem we are having trouble wrapping our heads around is as follows...
There is a "Resources" section, for example, that contains different links based on if you are logged in or not. We want to allow contributors the ability to edit this content, but cannot figure out how to fit this data into the current system. Basically, we have a page that looks like this:
Resources (title)
Link 1 (public link)
Link 2 (public link)
Link 3 (logged in only link)
Link 4 (public only link)
Link 5 (logged in only link)
Link 6 (public link)
My initial thought was to have each link basically as a content item and assign it a security group, which will show or hide the link based on the users role. I think that would work pretty well for this page, but then we have an "About" page which is literally just 3 paragraphs of content, but if you are logged in, there is a link in the middle of one of the paragraphs. If this is a contribution region, I dont know how to tag that "partial" piece of content to not show with the overall content. This 2nd example does not seem to work with the 1st examples solution, and I want to find a solution that will work for the entire site.
Any suggestions? I'm sure there are pieces of this that weren't clear, so if there's anything I can clarify, please let me know!

As I mentioned, I think that model could work pretty well for me in that one example, but I also have a different type of content, outlined below which this solution will need to work for.

In this page, I would only want to present the logged in users the "LINK" at the end of the first paragraph. I see how I could easily wrap that part in the iDoc if statement, but I want to keep this whole section of content as one contribution region that a contributor could edit right on the page, and not have to know iDoc script. Do you see my problem?

Conditional Formatting for Report Rows based on page item

Hi,
I have a report and a page item on a page. I would like to somehow highlight any report rows where a particular column in the report (e.g. "Customer_ID") matches the page item (e.g. P2_CUSTOMER_ID).
Any idea how to do this?

You can also achieve this by jquery ( Please note - I just started learning jquery , so my way of doing it may not be a good way of doing it)

Usually this type of crash report indicates the web coding used by the site is not compatible with Safari. Try using Firefox.
Specific to this site, you can go to Safari Preferences>Security and uncheck the Javascript box before opening the URL. I suspect Safari won't crash.
If you want, post the URL and I'll try it from here using Safari 3.

I seem to have grey as a default colour for some websites, can't read the page. any ideas for curing this please?

When I visit some webpages - example www.thephonebook.bt.com - I cannot read the pages because they are grey and the info fades into the page and is unreadable. Can I change the colour of website pages or is there something else I can do or undo?

It's rather technical, but setting up a style rule for this site such as <br />

Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
It all really depends on your demographic audience.
Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.

Hold down the power button until the slider appears
Hold down the home button (Don't use the slider) Until the App Closes
You might lose your place, but shouldnt be too hard to find it again...

Changing colour based on cells for ALV in Web Dynpro ABAP

I have a requirement where I need to change the font color for some cells of ALV in Web Dynpro ABAP. I am able to change the font color for whole row or whole column but need to know how to change it based on cells.
My output should be something like the picture attached to this discussion. The coloumns/cells where I need the font colour can change for different rows, based on some internal condition.
Please let me know how to achieve this...... Thank you.

Your requirement can be achieved as below
Create an attribute for each column of alv i.e. COLOR_F1, COLOR_F2, COLOR_F3...... COLOR_F10 of type WDY_UIE_LIBRARY_ENUM_TYPE in the context node which holds the color value
Now while configuring ALV, set the field name of semantic color for each column as below
               data lv_color_fld_name type string.
               data lo_text_view type ref to cl_salv_wd_uie_text_view.
          loop at lt_columns into ls_column.
          concatenate 'COLOR' ls_column-id into lv_color_fld_name separated by '_'.
          lo_text_view ?= ls_column-r_column->get_cell_editor( ).
          if lo_text_view is bound.
          lo_text_view->SET_SEMANTIC_COLOR_FIELDNAME( value = lv_color_fld_name ).
          endif.
          endloop.
Set the color based on the condition
         loop at lt_data into ls_data.
                    if ..... "your condition here.
                    ls_data-color_f1 = cl_wd_text_view=>e_semantic_color-NEGATIVE.
