Ideas of how to manage voice files on iPod

This might be a wierd one ... I bought an iPod on Satuday, really happy with it! But aside from having all my music there was was 1 other main purpose.
I'm a medical student and record all my lecture notes so I can listen back to them to help me learn it all. I travel a lot and it would be a great way to multi task and listen to lecture notes on the move. However there are loads of lectures and loads of notes so I'd really have to categorise them otherwise it will all get very confusing.
I asked 3 separate assistants in the iPod shop about folders and subfolders, they all said that I can create folders and subfolders and subfolders in subfolders in itunes and transfer them across to my iPod ...... great! Exactly what I wanted. Got home, and haven't worked out how to do it - searched online and still no luck and read in a few places that I cant even do it!
Here's what I want to be able to do, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Will have folders like the following:
Neuro -> Eye -> about 10-20 voice recordings
Neuro -> Anatomy -> Neck -> about 5-10 voice recordings
Neuro -> Anatomy -> Face -> about 5-10 voice recordings
Muscles -> Anatomy -> chap 1
Muscles -> Anatomy -> chap 2
Muslces -> antomy -> chap3 .... etc
Mucles -> physiology ....
etc
anyway, you get the idea. Probably need about 3 levels of folders.
Also, I also asked one guy if I was able to add folders to the very first menu screen you get (the one with music, photos, videos etc) ideally I would want to have folders for my modules (neuro, muslces etc) there and then the subfolders leading off from it...
Big question: is this possible? and if so, how?
If not - anyone got any ideas on how I can manage the files without having a huge long list? Or using the iPod efficiently for what I want to do.
Also - I do want to have my music files on it as well (although for me its a secondary function) - it would be nice to keep the music and the audio files separate ..
Any help would be great. Thanks

anyone have any ideas about this?

Why is there over ten thousand file in my "All My Files" on my new MBP. I'm very new at using ICloud. I don't understand syncing vs time vs time vs syncing! I simply have not idea how to manage my files now. I read short comments & how to's in the support sections, but nothing I've read so far explains"best practices" or turning iCloud off to get a grip on managing files. I have 250gb fast storage on the MBP itself, and 200gb in the ICloud, one would thing that's enough. The files seem too be multiplying like rabbits. IPhoto's Faces has created hundereds of "somethings" not sure what. I am sure I am very frustrated! Please comment with kindness.

Yes,I am confused. To say its just another drive is a "buzz statement".
OK, for example. If I download a document, song, or photo from ICloud, as I understand, it goes to Download in Finder. If I want to move it to a local folder of my choice on the solid state drive in my new MBP, does a copy always stay in ICloud? How do you housekeep? I have always  used to a physical drive. What is different about the mind set.  I used ICloud to store the contents of my old MBP. Once I download all the files I need, should I turn off ICloud and manage the file locally? I don't like the automatic movement of files when I don't understand the locations.
    Nope, you don't understand it.
If you download a song from the iTunes cloud storage (which is not iCloud) it goes into the iTunes music folder (generally to a subfolder therein)
If you download a document from the iCloud drive it will go wherever you chose to put it.
If you download a photo from the iCloud Photo library it will also go wherever you choose to put it.*
If you move something you have not copied it, if you want to keep a copy on the iCloud drive and in a local folder, you would copy, not move it.
There is no 'automatic' movement, you decide what to store on the iCloud drive (exactly like any other drive) and what to remove.
The iCloud drive appears as a folder in Finder, you use it just like any other, copy/paste, save, delete etc.
You can turn the iCloud drive off whenever you like, download the content to a local drive first.
    * Because the iCloud drive appears as a folder in Finder there is in fact no need to ever download anything to your Mac, everything on the drive is already on your Mac.

    WINDOWS?
Connect the iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it.
In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders."
Navigate to the Music folder. On my 'pod, the full path is
Portable Media Devices\NAME of IPOD (F:)\iPod_Control\Music
Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.
And you're done! The iPod music folder structure is strange and inexplicable, but once you move your files into iTunes you can set it to automatically organize your folder by artist and album to clean that up. (To do this, in iTunes Edit menu, choose Preferences and in the Advanced tab, check "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized."

  • How to Manage Archive Files in Oracle 10g

    Dear all
I have 10g Database server running in Archive Mode, there are huge number of archive files have been increased ,
    (1) how can i find old and obsoleted Archive files that will not be needed for recovery in future.so that i can delete them inorder to free space.
    (2) How to manage Archive Files .
    Kindly help
    Thanks
    Regards
    Farnaw

    Hello,
    (1) how can i find old and obsoleted Archive files that will not be needed for recovery in future.so that i can delete them inorder to free space. It depends on your Backup policy.
If you use RMAN you can follow the advices previously posted, if you use "user managed" Backup then, you don't need the
log files archived before the begining of the last full backup of your database.
To know when the archived log was generated and the first change included in it, you can query the v$archived_log as follow:
    alter session set nls_date_format='DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS';
    select recid, name, first_change, first_time, completion_time
    from v$archived_log;
    (2) How to manage Archive Files . You must backup the archived logs so as to be able to apply them. After making a safe backup of them on a tape, they can be
    deleted from disk.
Of course you can also keep the last archived logs on your disk (beside of backup them on tape) so that you don't have to
restore them and save time if you need them.
It depends on your needs and the free space you have.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

  • HT204053 How to manage icloud files

How can i manage delete files / download files from my icloud ?

You will not, however, be able to use a back up file for that. iOS back up are strictly for recover purposes and are an "all or nothing proposition". Use something like DropBox or Box to transfer the files to the their respective cloud server, then to your PC.

  • How to manage linked files with multiple designers?

    Hi,
I work at a small company with multiple designers (5 of us) where 3 of us work remotely. We use dropbox to manage our files so that everyone has access--we keep client files in specific folders and stock media in a shared folder.
Currently whenever we open a file that's been edited by someone else, we have to go in and individually relink the files. Some would prefer to embed the files, however this can increase filesize by 60-400mb. Our current files total in at around 500gb, so I don't think that's a viable option.
4 of us are on Macs, 1 on Windows. 1 has CS5, 3 have CS6 and one has CC.
    My question is this:
If we all have the same path to dropbox (or the same path to the file, either way) will Illustrator be able to automatically find the files?
    Eg. X:/Dropbox/...
If so, will it work cross platform?
I know InDesign has a better link management system, is there a good plugin that would help with this?
I'm going to continue to do my own research and testing, but I thought I'd consult those more knowledgeable than me.
    Thank you!

Thanks for your response. Currently, dropbox works so that it syncs online but also is stored locally on your hard drive (not like a network drive). So one person could have a different path to the dropbox folder than the other. As for the second part, that would be about the same as embedding it in the file as far as general disk space usage. We use many of the same stock photos in multiple files, so keeping them in the same location reduces the amount of space used. It wouldn't be a huge problem if illustrator used relative paths instead of absolute paths, but alas.
I was forgetting that Mac OS doesn't use drive letters, so there probably won't be a way for illustrator to read things as the same path cross-platform...
I'm still wondering if there are any good plug-ins which help find broken links.
I found this: http://techblog.willshouse.com/2011/01/16/adobe-illustrator-linked-files-fix/ which might be helpful, but I'm wondering if there's a better solution.

  • How to manage many files?

    Hi,
I'm using IMAQ USB to generate a snap shots every 10 seconds by using
two USB cameras. After the program takes the snap shots, it saves the
pictures in a folder. I usually run the program for a day. After a day,
I generate about 17,000 22kb JPG files.  When I click on the
folder to view the files, I often have to wait 30 seconds or more for
the folder to open, and the system begins to run extremely slow after
    that.
Is there a certain way to manage many files?  Can I do something to my program to prevent this from happening?
By the way, I'm running a 3.2 GHz P4 with 512mb of ram.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank You,
    Molana

The problem is the 17K worth of files in one directory. One method would be to have your code create a new folder every hour, possibly naming the directory with the date and hour, then you will end up with 24 folders with 360 files per folder. I use something similar on projects that are going to run for a very long time, that save files less frequently than yours, but once every few minutes for 6 months works out to a lot of files too!

  • How to manage itunes with two ipods

I have two iPods, a 60G photo and a 30G video. I have two macs, one at work, the other at home. My iTunes on the work computer has about 50G of music, and about 15G on my home computer. Until now, I have only synced the big iPod with the work computer and small iPod at home. I just got a very big external drive, and want to keep everything there. That raises several questions I thought someone here might know how to answer.
    1) Where are the files so I can just copy them onto the ext hard drive? (I can probably find this for myself, but with my computer skills on mac, it will be frustrating, I imagine. Since I have the other questions, I thought htis one might be easy.)
    2) How can I merge the two files? I know I have some duplicates, adn I know how to get rid of them once the two are merged, but how do the two files merge together in one iTunes file on my new hard drive?
    3) Once the two are merged, can I set it so that certain types of music are put on one iPod, and other types on the other?
    Thanks a lot, in advance.
    Brad

    1. Click on the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon, and then open the folder named Music. The iTunes folder inside is the default location of the music library; if the songs aren't here, follow these instructions to locate them.
    2. Drag the files into the Library section of the open iTunes application.
    3. Use the option in this article which best fits your needs.

  • How to manage video files?

    Hi!
I have installed the development media server, played arround with some of the demos and now i'm looking for the possibilty to manage my VOD video files. But i can't find any tool, or informations delivered by the server how much video files are in the vod directory.
Do i need an extra tool?
    Thx!

Okay - so i have to code something - the server doesn't deliver any informations about the video files by an webservice or by http? There is no possiblity in the administraion API to get this information?
Is it possible to say that the video file "example.flv" is only avaible for streaming in the vod directory between 08:00 am and 05:00 pm?

  • How to manage video files in FMS 3 ?

Hello, I have a doubt regarding file managment in FMS 3. I
want to create a video on demand aplication using FMS and I want to
catalog the videos ( to associate data such as Director, Year,
Producer, Actors, Genre, Price, Format, Duration, Language, etc.).
Where can this be done? Do I have to create a external
    (external to FMS) database?
And what about playlits? I know is possible to create
server-side playlists? Where are they created and which data do
they support? I plan to use xml playlists (rss 2.0 compatible) and
to to add all the required data ( Director, Year, Producer, Actors,
Genre, Price, Format, Duration, Language, etc.) to the playlists.
In resume, my question is: Do I have to create a external
database or is there a internal database inside FMS that can be use
    to catalog the videos?
If I have to use an external database, which is the best way
to relate the data with the video?
    Best regards

  • How to Manage FCE Files

I recently got an "Out of Memory" message when rendering some audio of an iMovie project I opened in FCE. After scrumaging around I found that I had a bunch of files in the FCE Documents folder: Audio render files,Autosave Vault, etc., so I erased some of the audio render files that I knew were no longer needed and I was able to proceed.
I also found a bunch of FCE Project files in my Trash that I wondered about.
Question 1: When can I erase these files in the FCE Documents folder and is it OK to empty the Trash?
Question 2: Does FCE create other files spread around the HD that should be purged when the project is finished?

    Hi Charles,
Was the message Out of Memory or Disk Full? There is a big difference. With 2GB RAM you have plenty of memory and if you got a memory error message there is something wrong in your system that will take some work to uncover. If it was a Disk Full message, however, then you need to make some room on your HD.
FCE does not have a render file manager, sorry, you'll have to do it yourself through the Finder. In your Final Cut Express Documents folder you will find a number of additional folders -
    Audio Render Files
    Autosave Vault
    Capture Scratch
    Render Files
    Thumbnail Cache Files
    Waveform Cache Files
The folders that fill up with the biggest files are Capture Scratch and Render Files. Capture Scratch contains your captured video clips and you need to keep them there as long as you are working on your project. However most people tend not to remove captured clips after they are finished with their projects. At 13GB per hour of film they take up a lot of space.
You can safely delete everything in the Render Files folder but if you have an active project and you delete these files you will have to re-render your project, and that could take some time. Ditto with the two cache folders but they don't usually fill up as much as the Render Files folder.
All of FCE's files are constrained to the Final Cut Express Documents folder and its child folders, they are not strewn around your HD unless you changed the location of your scratch files in your FCE preferences.
Other files you have to watch out for include self-contained QT movies exported from FCE and iDVD project files. I've seen quite a few people fill up their HDs with multiple exported self-contained QT movies generated in the course of editing a single movie in FCE. If that's your practice, for every 1 hour of movie you've got about 13GB of clips, 1-3 GB of render files, 13GB of exported QT movies and a 13GB iDVD file ... 40-50GB before you know what happened. It adds up fast! <grin>

  • Using iTunes 8, how to manage libraries for 2 ipods w/o duplicating files?

Is there any way to load all my music into one library, then manage what is put on each iPod, without having duplicate files that take up more disk space? I am using iTunes 8 for Windows. I have two iPods, an 8GB and a 16GB, so they hold different sets of songs. I tried creating a second Library and copying the songs I want on that iPod, but that creates an additional 8GB of used space on my PC. Plus I want to load ALL my CDs into iTunes and occasionally change out the selections on my iPod...

    Just use playlists.
I have two iphone and three ipods that sync to one itunes library. They each have different content.
