Identical images with multiple names

Hi
i'm trying to clean up my iphoto library (iphoto 08, version 7.1) by manually deleting old photos and duplicates. I have come across old photos (brought from iphoto 04) that appear to be identical but have different names/titles and have been placed in separate events by iphoto 08: some have "jpeg" in the name, others do not (but are still jpegs). Sometimes the image numbers do not match. (These were all taken with the same camera.) Generally, the non jpeg images do have more MB.
Are these just edited versions of the same photos? Which are the originals? Is there a quick way to determine which to save? What's the most important piece of data to look for when comparing photos?
some background info: i did have to rebuild my thumbnail cache after transferring my old photos to iphoto 08.
thanks!
Kateroo

Kateroo:
Did you import your older library into a new iPhoto 08 library? If so that's why you would many duplicates of the same image as iPhoto would import the modified files as well as the original and, for some strange reason, import multiple copies of the modified files.
There are two application that you can try to cull out the duplicates in the library: Duplicate Annihilator and iPhoto Diet. I would make a temporary backup copy of the library before running either application in case the results are not what you expected.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Images with same name in different folders being swapped

I've been out at a printers freelancing and using CS6 for the first time. I've a 64 page document with a large number of images (100+) that have been given various treatments and held in folders named to identify them.
    originals: sweden.jpg, germany.jpg, india.jpg…etc
    saturated: sweden.jpg, germany.jpg, india.jpg…etc
    greyscale: sweden.jpg, germany.jpg, india.jpg…etc
and so on. The document contains differnt combinations of these pictures, all in all I've about 1,000 image links in the document.
I opened up my document this morning and found for some reason the links to the images were broken - no idea why as no folders seem to have been moved but when I relinked to one of them - say a greyscale image - they ALL linked to the wrong set - the "saturated" ones. Looking at the image path in the links panel I see that's what's happened, ALL the link paths to ALL the images say "saturated", never mind the fact they're greyscale in the document.
So is this a known issue? At the moment I can't find any solution but to relink manually over a thousand images, which, lets face it, is a bit of a disaster for me and the job deadline.
I've used indesign for years and never come across anything even CLOSE to this sort of behaviour.

InDesign has a feature that will automatically search for other missing links when you fix a missing link. When you relinked the first of your grayscale images, you may have accidentally relinked to the saturated image. When this happened it searched the directory that the newly re-linked file was in for all the other missing files. Since your image names all matched up to images in that directory, they all got re-linked.
This auto-relink feature can be toggled in the relink dialog:
If you have a backup of your file, you can revert to that version, and try to relink your images from that one. In the future you should make sure that images all have unique identifiers, it is bad practice to have images with identical names.

  • Iphoto exporting images with no name and mail with no reply info

One of our Macbook pros, running osx 10.8.5, is sending email via iphoto that ,
#1) creates a photo with NO NAME that cannot be saved no matter what you do,
    and
#2) the email can not be forwarded, seems like because there is not "reply to" information.
the Prefs are filled out correctly in the iPhoto email settings.
Why did they configure iphoto to do the "send" FROM iphoto in this OSX version? This worked fine before as it would open up your mail whereby you could arrange and double check things.
So i was trying to do a work around by sending the email to myself but the email and the attachment can not be forwarded. As well the image CAN NOT be dragged to the desktop to be saved. USELESS!
just a Ghost email and attachment.
    very frustrating.

  • Picture Library : upload image with same name overwrite the image in thumbmail or WebVersion view but not the actual image link points to the old image

    Hello,
I am facing a wired issue with Picture Libraries in SharePoint.
We created a custom field and added it to UserInfo list, the column based on custom field lets user upload their personal images to a Picture Library with the name <User ID>.<Image Extension> e.g. 1.jpg where UserID is internal Listitem ID of the UserInfo list and set its URL to the field value which we use to display the image on our custom user profile and some other WebParts.
If the user uploads a different image, it will overwrite the existing one it keeping the same name.
The field worked perfectly with sites using widows Based authentication, but as we move the field to sites with form based authentication we find that the field is able to upload the image properly first time but on each successive upload, although a new image gets uploaded with the name userid.imagextension and is shown in the allitems.aspx page in the thumbnail view and in the picture preview on the dispform.aspx page, but the link next to the name field and the image shown on clicking the preview points to the old image.
    To put it other way
    https://<Web URL>/Picture%20Library/_w/Upload_jpg.jpg
    https://<Web Url>/Picture%20Library/_t/Upload_jpg.jpg
    Would show the updated image
    but the actual URL
    https://<Web Url>/Picture%20Library/Upload.jpg
    points to the old image
what’s even more strange is that even after deleting the image the url still shows the old image at
    https://<Web Url>/Picture%20Library/Upload.jpg
I confirmed the same by actually repeating the same exercise on a picture Library in the User Interface
Uploading an image say upload.jpeg in the picture library using SharePoint interface.
Then uploading a different jpeg image keeping the same name upload.jpeg again in the picture library.
In allitems.aspx thumbnail view and on dispform.aspx page preview filed image now show the newly uploaded image but when you click the preview image or click the link in the name field value it takes you back to the old image.
I have seen this issue on environment where we have enabled form based authentication and the issue is not seen on another server where we have wss with windows based authentication.
Has anyone noticed such behavior and is there any workaround to that!
    Thanks & Regards
    Saurabh Rustagi

    All,
    I had the same issue.
In my case, Blob Cache was enabled for the web application in which the image issue was occuring.
I cleared blob cache, and after doing a hard refresh of my browser, the correct image was then displayed.
To clear blob cache, do the following:
    Navigate to:
    http://yourwebapp:port/yoursite/_layouts/objectcachesettings.aspx
Select:  "Object Cache Flush"  and  "Force all servers in the farm to flush their object cache" check boxes
    Click the OK button
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple Endeca images with multiple static IP's

    Hello,
    I have the following problem:
I have created an Oracle Linux 64BIT image with Endeca V3.1. I set the network connection to NAT and entered that IP in my Host file with my hostname. Everything was working fine, because I used a static IP > Configured that in the Host file and installed Endeca afterwards.
But now we would like to use this image for trainings. So I would like to copy this image like 10 times and use static IP's for every image. BUT every image has a different static IP.
The problem that I face now is that I cannot connect to my Endeca Server via the Terminal or Studio. The static IP of one of my images is 172.31.10.20. I have configured my Host file like this:
    172.31.10.20     localhost.localdomain
    127.0.0.1          localhost.localdomain
Endeca Server starts but I cannot connect to it and get the message:
"Could not connect to Endeca Server at localhost:7001"
Does anybody know how I can fix this problem so that I don't have to re-install Endeca for every single image?
    Thanks!!

  • Identical pages with different names on website

Hi, I've recently put up a new website which completely
replaces the old one. I'm about to delete all the old pages off the
server, but I notice they're still coming up on google. Is it bad
practise to replace the old pages with my new ones, and leave two
copies of the page on the server but with different names? Eg, the
new page about restaurants and entertainment is called
"restaurants_entertainment.html" but the old page is just called
"restaurants.html". So I was thinking I could save my new page as
'restaurants.html' and put it onto the server as well, so that when
users click on the search results they get taken to the new
restaurant page and not the old one. I'm thinking this is not a
good thing to do? just wanting confirmation from the
    experts...

It's best, whenever possible, to give your new pages the same
    filename as
your old pages -- so that basically, you're just replacing
    the content on
    each page.
If that's not possible, you need to 301 redirect from the old
    pages to the
new pages, e.g., redirect from restaurants.html to
restaurants_entertainment.html, so that when people click on
    the "old page"
in Google, or from their bookmarks, or in a link on another
    site, they will
end up at your new page.

  • Help! iPhoto alerts pop up that say, "The photo "DSC06691.JPG" cannot be opened because the original cannot be located." I can locate original, but I have multiple images with same name!

Recently my library prompted me to rebuild due to inconsistencies that were found in library. Now alerts pop up that say it can't locate the original of an image, so I have an option to cancel or locate it. I can locate the file, however, there are usually 2 or 3 photos with the same file name! Not sure which one it is trying to locate etc. I have a feeling this is the problem. Not sure how it happened. Has anyone had this happen to them?? iPhoto library hasn't rebuilt because there are so many pop up alerts...I have a feeling it's a big problem. I am going to attempt to select one image for each one and see what happens, but I am concerned what the outcome will be.
My camera cards are already deleted (I knew I should have kept them!!). We do have time capsule, so I am assuming I can go back, but I am worried that iphoto will do the same thing. It just started doing it about two weeks ago and it didn't correspond with any photo uploads. I hope someone can help!

Are you running a managed or referenced library?
If it's a managed library apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Deletes all images with same name

Why is it impossible to simply move images from one folder to the other, rather than having to go through the lengthy and awkward process of exporting them to another folder and deleting the originals. In addition, I just had the unpleasant experience that when there are JPG copies with the same name still in the folder with the original RAW images, the JPG are also deleted.
Image management is still a headache in LR. WQhy not use the Bridge folder structure. Why not simply pick up an image and put it in another folder?

I guess the answer is because that is the way
Adobe designed I/O to the DB--which is the core of LR, and as such is always talked about by them in sacrosanct terms. They did make some small changes from 1.0 to 1.1--but far short of what they should have done IMO.
There are better ways to do things, but Adobe is very reluctant to make substantial changes to LR Library to give it the I/O functionality of Bridge or other 'browser' type applications. My guess is that it is not going to change significantly with respect to this issue any time soon.
I simply do those functions that Bridge does better in Bridge--PS in PS, LR in LR, etc. But, I don't buy into the myth that 'one app does it all' ,so I am not in the slightest disappointed, and I use the best tools out there in different apps and combine them into an effective workflow. If you look at LR in that light, you may be less frustrated.

  • How to export images with Project Name to be visable by Photo Mechanic.

    Hello all,
I am trying to create another complete set of my images, that can be edited by outside programs (Photo Mechanic and/or Lightroom). I am doing this by exporting the images out of a managed library. I want the Aperture "*Project name*" and Rating fields to be passed to Photo Mechanic. And then I want PM to be able to do queries on the Metadata fields containing the Aperture Project Name and Rating. My intention is to use Photo Mechanic to rename the images and relocate the images but still keep track of the Rating and Project Name.
In Aperture, when I add a custom metadata item under IPTC and export the image, that custom metadata item does not show up in PM or Bridge for that matter.
How can I export images and have the Rating and *Project Name* be exported and visible in PM or LR or Bridge?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dick B.

There is not an easy way but Ian Wood's tool might help you out.
Personally I would just use the "subfolder format" drop down options available in all of the export and relocate dialogs to sort them into directories that are based on Aperture project name - easy enough considering those other tools use file system based folders for there organization structure anyway.

  • How to make a single image with multiple clickable points?

    Hi,
I just started using CS4 yesterday, but am pretty confused. I managed my first little achievement with it, but am havign troubles. I'm not even sure of the capabilities of the software to be honest, but I would like to know if I can have a single image, then have sections of it which can be hovered over with a tag and a link to another part of my site. Is this something that can be done?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
to reach several different links on the image you need to create so-called hotspot (I had to translate the following terms from my German Dreamweaver). How to do?
    Click into the image
    Open properties window
    Open list box orientation.
Surround the image parts in question (look at the green arrow). Feel free/play with chosen forms.
    Hans-G.
    P.S.
You shouldn't use only images on your site.

  • Can't insert new images with different names

I have a picture file (.jpg) called location1.jpg. I rename the file in finder to map-location-1.jpg. Go to iWeb and delete location1.jp and then insert the renamed file map-location-1.jpg. However it still shows up in iWeb as being the original location1.jpg - The files are the same, they've just been renamed. I've deleted the plist file and restarted my iBook and it still uses the old file name.
There must be some kind of cache right?.
All I can do now is go into photoshop and arbitrarily change or modify the image and save it - then it works.
I don't want to do that as I have a few hundred images that I want to rename.
    Help !!!

This did my head in for a good few hours. I did not find a nice way to remove everything to re-publish, but if it is just a couple of images you wish to replace (i.e. a banner) I did the following. Delete the old image. Insert a totally different image which you have named the same as what you intend to change to. Then remove this "false image" and insert the actual image you want. When it publishes to a local folder, the WHATEVER_files will contain your correct image named correctly. Let me know how you go.

  • Image with multiple handles

    Hi,
I cut and paste image from Adobe Illustrator into Indesign. I am puzzled and confused to see 3 various handles. I just want to scale the image however each time I have scaled down wrongly. The image seems to be cropped and hidden. Below is my screen shot. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you.

Why is this coming from Illustrator? It's a raster image and should be PLACED, not pasted, as an image. The ONLY non-text content you should consider pasting (unless it is copied from palced content in an ID document) is simple paths, never rasters.
In the sample file you snet me there are a couple of things going on. You have two images. Both need frames when thay are pasted, and the lower image is simply inside the frame that ID created when you issued the paste command with nothing selected. The upper image is more confusing because the image is inside a frame, and THAT frame is inside another frame (this appears to be the case inthe screen shot above, too). I suspect you might have drawn that frame first, then used Paste Into, but I have no way of telling. Depending on the structure, and the tool in use, you can select either the container frame or the content (double-clicking with the selection tool will cycle through container/content selections). In you case all of the frames are on the default layer and their bounding boxes are blue, The images contained inside the frames will have brown bounding boxes when they are selected instead of the container.
You can move the image around inside the frame that contains it, and if you have one frame inside another you can move the inner frame around inside the outer. Your scaling will be applied (if you are scaling and not just cropping -- use the modifier keys with the mouse as explained to you in another thread if you need to scale, or use the scale fields, scale tool or free transform tool inistead of the Selection tool) to both the frame and its contents if you select the frame, but only to the image if you select it directly.

  • Flyweight Pattern use with multiple GUI components

    Hi,
I am creating a simple application and I would like your advice on wether I should use the flyweight pattern or not.
My application is essentially a GUI front to a repository of small images. The GUI (in its simplest form) is a single window that will display all the images with their names in a clickable thumbnail format. The user will be able to select an thumbnail icon, drag it and move it around pretty much like the icons on your computer desktop.
The easiest way to do that is probably to load each image and its name into a JLabel, add it in a JFrame and write just few lines of code (say by extending the JLabel class) to handle mouse pressed/dragged events in order to move the label around. The rest will be taken care of by the swing functinality (e.g. painting etc).
However, I am considering using the flyweight pattern for efficiency but I am not sure if it is appropriate. So far I have seen simplistic examples of its use (apart from JTree) where the pattern is used to paint dozens of lines on the screen or the borders of components. But what happens if instead of lines or borders the objects in question are interactive GUI components such as my thumbnails? how does the flyweight pattern work in this case?
For example if I create just a single JLabel and use it to paint all my icons that's great! but what happens with mouse events? what happens when I want to drag a thumbnail over another one and how the partial repainting of the thumbnail below should be handled?
Am I missing something here, or in order to implement the flyiweight pattern in this case I will have to write endless lines of code to replicate the functionality that swing arleady provides in each JComponent? (e.g. targetting of mouse events, repainting etc)
    Cheers,
    Kyri

I don't think Flyweight applies, because you really don't want to share any UI component that generates events unless the response is the same for all of them.
If you read Flyweight, I think it was intended for things like caching the first 128 Integers, etc. - think finite, countable, immutable things. I don't think UI elements apply.
