Identical usage/standby stats

Hello. The usage and standby times are always identical to one
another. I believe this happened after an update to 4.3.1 but I'm
not sure. I normally drain my battery completely before charging,
allow battery to fully charge before disconnecting. I've also put the
phone in airplane mode and let sit for 10 minutes or so, yet the usage
and standby times are still identical.
I'm using a 16gb iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.2 and I wondered if any other
users are experiencing this issue. I still get around 1 day 7 hrs of
usage/standby, I'm just kind of curious as to what may be causing
this.
Any help or tips would be appreciated, thanks

That's just exactly what I've noticed with location services, though.
I keep them off unless needed. But as soon as an app asks to use my current location, bang, the usage starts to climb - even with location services turned off.
Strangely enough, it doesn't affect the battery life much, as far as I can tell. But usage climbs constantly until I do a hard reset. Then it behaves itself again.
I posted about this a couple of days ago to see if anyone else had noticed, but there weren't any responses. There had been speculation that it might be push that was causing the constant usage climb, but I didn't buy that. On my phone it's definitely location services.

  • 5.0.1 update - battery issue - check usage/standby stats

There might be more than one problem but i did find mine and fix it.  Check your usage and standby in general settings and if they are the same, then you have the same problem I had (they should not be the same).  If they are the same, that means your phone is never going in standby mode.  I fixed the problem with a complete reload.  I did not choose to restore from backup because I wanted to be %100 sure it was a fresh load of the software, so I setup as a new iphone.
Background: I upgraded from v4 to v5.0.1 a few days ago and started having battery issues.  I went to the apple store and they did some diag test on my phone/battery and said everything checks out good.  They said my options were to buy a new battery or drain my existing batter to zero, let it set for two hours, then recharge to %100 again and see if it fixes my problem (it did not). The person at the apple store ask me if that sounded like a good plan, I said no, not really (does not make much sense), Im not buying a new battery, especially since you said mine checks out good, but i will try the recharge and see what happens.  So, I was back to square one and then a friend told me about the usage/standy thing. Maybe this is a bug in the software when you do the upgrade (or at least for me) and v5.0.1 works fine from a fresh install.  My phone battery is working great now.  Looking at my usage stats now, I have 1 hour, 19 minutes usage and 3 hours, 17 minutes standby, and %90 battery.

Glad that a Restore as New resolved your issue...

  • When do usage/standby hours get erased?

Do usage/standby stats get erased anytime you reset the iphone (holding sleep and home buttons until apple logo appears)?
Or does it get erased only if an app crashes and automatically reboots the phone? This is what I think happened to me last night.

unfortunayrly a hard reset will erase to usag and standby times - they wont stat accumulating again till the next full charge

  • Time since last full charge - Usage & Standby Keeps Resetting

When I normally charge my iPhone 3GS to roughly into the 90s (percentage), the Usage & Standby times under "Time since last full charge" both reset. I do not go to 100% charge. I only do that like once every few weeks.
I know that these times were buggy sometimes in 2.X versions of the OS where the times would read "--". Usually discharging the battery completely & recharging would fix that, although temporarily...
    Anyone else?

Apple does not make your phone battery go to 100% each time you charge. In every laptop or cell phone battery there is a finite amount of times that you can charge your phone up to 100%. After a certain amount of times the battery will die. So Apple charges up to 90% (or something like this) so you won't have to worry about a battery replacement. According to a post I read on engadget.com a normal iPhone user would have to worry about charging their iPhone battery once every 5 years with the way Apple charges your iPhone.
    So - it's a good thing. It's not a problem. It's a feature!

Try to be a bit more clear on what the problem is.
What behavior is shown? Does the PC go into S3 normally (blinking power led) or not? What happens when you press power button to wake the PC? Is there nothing happening or are the fans running? Is there any activity or does the system crash?

  • Iphone 4, empty battery after 8h, usage==standby time

    Hi,
since some weeks I have the problem, that my iphone sometimes gets into a state, where the battery lasts only about 8h from full charge. I can see, that standby time equals usage time.
Restarting the device does not help, updating to the latest i-os revision also did not help.
Searching the internet I found several people having the same problem but no solution. (Even here in the forum)
Looking into the console via X-Code Device Organizer, I can see that it tries to sync with our exchange server, even though there is no vpn connection open:

Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?

Hi, I think you need a new battery for your iPhone 4. Though you've said that the last time it is shut down with 90% of battery, there must be something wrong with your battery. You can buy a battery to replace the old one by yourself or take it to a local repair store to do the repair.

  • Usage / Standby

Has anyone had a problem with the Usage and Standby information not populating under the Usage information in General Settings? Apparently, the times since last full charge Usage and Standby information should be there. On my phone - it is not. Some display the information, some do not. Is there a fix for this?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I guess I would try to eliminate as many variables as possible.
The phone has never displayed usage stats?
Try a hard reset, (be sure to note this clears usage stats to "--" dashes!) and charge with a known good USB cable from your computer - eliminating a possible faulty AC wall adapter from the mix. Charge in a powered OFF status for 8 (eight) hours say, and then re-boot, (not reset!) and you should show a fully charged unit. If not, I would try one more full charge-discharge cycle. After that, I don't know other than try an exchange?
You mention "battery life doesn't seem terrible."
You should be able to meet Apples published figures OK by noting battery life in hours, but no usage stats or accurate indicator is like driving around without a fuel gauge, not very comforting.
If so, then your problem is the battery indicating system is "confused" and needs calibration as outlined. Let us now how that works for you!

i guess, it have any problem with the simcard or the carrier...
    any helpful suggestion please?
The carrier has nothing to do with the phone. It could be the SIM card going bad or the battery. Try using a friend's SIM card to see if it causes the same issue. If it does not happen on the other SIM, then your SIM is causing the problem. Go to your carrier and request for a new SIM card. And be sure to ask them to import your account to the new SIM card.
As for the battery, you might wanna go to a Apple store and go to the Genius bar to get it checked.

  • Iphone usage & standby times

I was interested in the "time since last full charge" information on usage and standby time. I checked that information under settings and it clearly gives me the information about my cumulative call times and cellular network data information, but nothing under usage and standby. There is just a little standard note there that says the times will be shown after next iphone full charge. Well, I'm quite sure my iphone is fully charged so I'm not sure why this information isn't pulling in. Does anyone else have this issue and have you found a way to solve it? Thanks

Ok, so my phone is pretty new and I haven't done a reset at all but I have charged it a few times. So, if I reset it and then charge it, I should get information there and not just the -- in the blanks?

  • Screen's Black & it's Not in Power Management Standby state

I have a ThinkVision monitor that fits the description: "Screen is blank and power indicator is steady amber".  I found the support FAQ that says the monitor is in power saving mode and to just touch a key or mouse to awaken it.  That's not it.    I've connected the monitor to another computer ... same response.   When it powers on, the thinkvision logo appears and a No Connection msg appears and moves across the screen for ~10 sec and then the monitor goes completely black.   No amount of mouse moving wakes this baby up.
    Anyone have some insight?
    Thx

Have you tried another cable? Maybe you can switch from dvi to vga or vice versa.
Basically, the "no connection" message is pretty clear: Either there's a problem with the cable (cheap) or with the monitor (expensive).

  • Still No Battery Usage Stats

Hi folks, I've seen lots of posts on this but still haven't seen a good answer. I have had my iPhone since launch day. I haven't hacked it once. I've updated to 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 on the evenings those updates came out. My battery usage stats continue to say the following even after the battery charge indicator reads full-charge as indicated by the "plug" icon:
    Usage --
    Standby --
Is this a bug? Or does this indicate a hardware problem? Am I too late to get a replacement?

I've had the same issue since I fist got my phone. I called Applecare once and was told they are aware of the issue and it should be fixed in an update. This was about two days prior to the 1.0.1 release. I also visited the genius bar twice. First time I was told to do a software re-install. Second time they acted kind of clueless but checked a few employee phones and all we like mine, dashes only.
Here is what I've observed, or my timeline on this issue:
    - After buying my phone and noticing this problem I went to the Apple store and the 4 or 5 phones I picked up all had usage meter stats. Genius bar was closed but someone helped me anyway and suggested a software re-install (this was prior to 1.0.1
    - When I went in for my second genius bar appointment I checkout out at least a dozen phones and all had "charing timer" stats. Both meters apparently counting up (hours charged) and both identical. This was after 1.0.1.
If I do a restart while the phone is plugged in I get the charging timers instead of the dashes, but my phone acts up and once I restart again it goes back to dashes.
I've got good battery life. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update down the road. Bottom line is there is a warranty on the phone so I'm just going to stop worrying.

  • Missing usage stats on 4S

Not sure what happened here. I've never had any kind of problem with the 4S battery usage at all, but suddenly yesterday, my usage stats (Time since last full charge: Usage & Standby) just disappeared. They were there - I used to check them periodically just to make sure the phone was ok, but as I said, they just vanished!
The phone's working just fine but I'd like the stats to work.
I've resisted the temptation to update to 5.01 so far as I'm not sure if this would fix the problem or just create new ones!
Can anyone suggest anything at all?

    OK, now solved.
I just charged till I saw the plug icon in the corner, removed the connector and put it back again. It charged again for a minuite or so and then the plug icon appeared again. At this point I just re-booted and the stats appeared immediately.
I guess the phone was not 100% charged the first time the plug icon appeared and these stats only appear after the phone has been 100% charged.

  • Battery / Standby & Usage Time

I got a 32G iPhone 4S last week. I have fully charged it twice now. After reading all the reviews about battery life, I still am surprised how quickly it dissipates even when phone isn't in use. Now I see my usage & standby times show dashes (-). Advise?
