Identification of terms; default font, where is it?

OK, I guess a spreadsheet (Appleworks) with rows and columns is now called a table and what is now called a spreadsheet is a whole new thing, kind of like a blank counter top on which to put tables and charts and such? I wish they would connect up new language with old instead of just starting out as if history never existed.
Ok, when I open Numbers, I want it to come up in Geneva 12 with an appropriate row height. How can I do that - that is, set that as the default?

Apple feed back for complaints. Only users here using their spare time helping others.
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Make up a table formated to use Geneva 12. Add top, side or bottom headers, 1,2,3 or none at all. You can grab a ready made table from the toolbar Table drop down if you prefer. Use one of the set Styles on the side bar for colour or set your own. The inspector has most of what you need.
Name it then save as 'template'.
Go to Numbers > General preferences > For New Documents set 'Use template: Blank' then 'Choose' your own. You can of course make as many as you like.
Have fun with it.

  • Help! Where'd my default fonts go?

    We use FontReserve at work (which I loathe). And a few weeks ago I opened a Quark file and BAM! ...all my resident Mac programs went wacky: Mail, AddressBook, iCal, Safari... And they stayed that way even after I closed the file, closed Quark, and even turned off all the fonts in FR.
    I told our IT guys that I thought FR had over-rode Apple's default font(s). But they went ahead and did all sorts of deleting and replacing... and now, everything is even more wacky!
    I can turn on headers in Mail without TONS of space in between them (I have to scroll for days just to read an email), and the only message font I can choose from is Monaco (yuk). AddressBook, iCal and Safari are readable, but look very weird... the font is strangly thin, and there are no bolds or italics to be found.
    All I want is to have my default Apple fonts back!
    Help?
    tia,
    e

    The advice about Pacifist on the FAQ was right-on. I grabbed my Tiger install DVD, used Pacifist to extract JUST the original font folders, and it automatically installed them in the right places... and VIOLA! All good!
    Turns out, my IT peeps had erased the Helvetica! ...Um, thanks guys?

  • How do you change the default font in Illustrator CS5?

    I have upgraded my Illustrator to CS5 and my default font has changed to a strange font. In Photoshop and InDesign, I was told that all you have to do is change the font in the Character menu to the font that you wish to be set as "default" and it will be the font that you always start with.
    NOTE: Does this mean that if I use a different font in a different document, the font will stay that font unless I change it back? Isn't there a way to make a particular font the font that I would always what I start with? All this setup means, is that the "default font" will always be whatever the last font that  was being used was. There has to be a way to make a default font that I will always start with no matter what the last font that was being used was.
    Illustrator gives you no option on font type, unless a file is open. Then, if you change the font and close the file, next time you start a file, it will go back to what is was to begin with. There has to be a way to change the default font for all of these programs to where the font always stays the same unless you change it. Mine is just set to use a weird font that I would probably never use.
    I just never thought it would be that big of a deal to change default settings for the font.

    Okay, I basically made three different documents and I made sure that I had everything chosen in each. I then saved the three to that file and they now appear in the list:
    Settings for all 3:
    72psi, 150psi and 300psi
    Rulers Visable
    Times New Roman
    12pt
    14.4pt
    I then went in and started three new documents. I used the three different New Document Profile's that I made and they all had Rulers, their sizes were correct, but the font stayed Myriad Pro. Did I miss anything? And, Yes, I did change the font and the setting before I saved them in the New Document Profile.
    One other thing, I did create a file in the folder, but it was spelled incorrectly. I then went into the folder, erased it and made a second. Then, I went to open it in IllustratorCS5 and it was still listed. I went to the file and it wasn't there anymore, but it was still listed in the New Document Profile. Is there a way to get it off of the list or is all I have to do is restart Illustrator?

  • How to change the default font size in X11?

    I was a PC/linux user and have switched to use Mac lately (MBP Snow leopard 10.6.8).
    Everything's been running perfectly on Mac so far and I really like it, until I have to run some programs on XQuartz/X11 (XQuart 2.7.0).
    The default font size in the Xterm is too small. And I hate it that I have to change it everytime i open a new terminal (via vt fonts menu, ctrl+right-mouse click).
    Is there a way to change the default font size "permanently" in XQuartz/X11 ??
    This may be a stupid question to ask in the developer forum but i cant really solve it.
    There's only config. file ~/.Xdefaults they have mentioned so far on Google but i really cant find it regarding to the directorty.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    You would be surprised to find out that is not like this, to get your account blocked you really need to do a lot of damage and posts are not removed unless they are illegal, and *always* it needs more than a person to delete something. That's a site managed by the community, not by some people put in place by a company.
    It is always acceptable to link to external resources as long these resources do provide additional usefull information. Clearly the thread on that side contained much more information than the one here. I observed people linking from there to this forum, but it's not so common, and that's not due to the policy, just because here is more chat and less usefull information.... you will not see endless threads of replies on with "yes, I have the same problem" there.
    Shortly, this is "discussions" and is quite different in approach than the SE model, where everythign is aimed towards getting the be answers UP and removing all the nonsense.
    I wish that Apple would invest more in discussion, and going towards making this more practical.

  • Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"? (OSX 10.10)

    Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
    I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
    The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
    As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
    And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
    Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
    All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
    The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
    Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

  • How do I set default font size?

    Some programs (most importantly for me, Thunderbird) use a default font size that is too small for my eye comfort. Some (such as Firefox) allow me to change the font size, but Thunderbird does not (though there is a menu item to change font size, which does not work).
    I gather that such programs are using a default system font size. So I would like to change this. Some Help articles suggested that I could do this from the Font Panel, but they give no indication where to find the Font Panel. I cannot find it in System Preferences or via the Spotlight.
    I am using OS X 10.4.7
    I am computer-literate, but new to the Mac, having had this computer for about a week and a half.
    P.S. In Thunderbird -> Preferences -> Fonts there is an option to configure the fonts used by Thunderbird. The settings affect messages, but not the main window with the message list. However, at this point I'd really like to set the system default so all programs that use the system default will be affected.
    Thanks.
    Daniel

    This still does not work.
    I tried all of them.
    Theme Font & Size Changer
    Big Buttons
    Default FullZoom Level
    NoSquint.
    It only works for that page of that web site, as soon as you leave you start all over again.
    Can't we just say Firefox messed up and needs to revert to the way it used to work without have to do ANYTHING to adjust any sizing.
    This is utterly ridiculous.
    It's a web browser for GOD sakes...not the OS. It shouldn't be doing anything but displaying web sites with NO INTERVENTION by the user for each and every page.
    Why are programers always looking for ways to take a working product and make it useless???

  • Reinstalling Default Fonts in Mountain Lion

    Hi,
    After buying the new iMac and have used it for two day I noticed that some files were in the Trash folder including the Fonts folder (don't ask me how they got there becuase I would swear I didn't move them). Since I didn't know where the Fonts folder belones to (system or user folder) I search on the internet and some people sugested doing a restore using Font Book (File>Restore Standard Fonts), but this made it worse since when it when and check it deletes the existing folders so now I only have the folder that was in the trash and I'm for sure missing one folder.
    Is there a way to reinstall the default fonts in Mountain Lion without reinstalling the operating system?
    This is the only thing I found but this will reinstall the OS.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4201528?start=0&tstart=0
    Thanks a lot

    You can use FontBook to find and delete duplicates.
    Have you checked for updates for your iWork?
    I did use FontBook to delete the duplicates.
    The applications were working fine before the reinstall, I checked for updates but it doesn’t show any for these applications.
    My problem with this is that I cannot reinstall these applications since I have them in a DVD and my computer doesn’t have a DVD drive.  I installed them sharing the DVD drive from my old MacBook but I sold it two days ago, the only thing I have is an Acer laptop but I don’t know if it is possible to share the drive.
    Is there a way to somehow put my DVDs in a USB drive, so I can install them without needing a DVD drive (assuming I can barrow my nephews Mac which has a DVD drive)?
    Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Change default font size

    Hi there!
    I have a problem with my macbook pro MC700. I got 23' monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to it, but system fonts are too small and it's hard to read em, how can I change font size? In windows7 even default fonts are bigger and there is an option to control em making even bigger for easy read and so on, where these settings in mac os x 10.6.8?

    For things like filenames, you can adjust that in the View Options screen for the Desktop or any active folder. You can access View Options via the View menu, or by pressing Command-J
    There is no setting to adjust the size of the font used in the menubar.
    Some programs allow you to adjust default font settings - check in the Preferences for each program for that setting.

  • Default font in a theme?

    Hello,
    Where do I find out what the default font is for a theme? I'm using the Sand theme.

    Hello,
    The easiest way is to use firefox and the web developer toolbar.
    http://chrispederick.com/work/webdeveloper/
    The CSS > Edit CSS and the sidebar will open up with all the stylesheets that are effecting that page.
    You'll want to look at the theme_V2.css probbably.
    And yes I could just tell you what it is but if I show you how to find it yourself you can answer this question next time someone posts it :)

  • I need to substitute the default font (times roman) in my editable form fields with a san serif...

    I am making a PDF with editable form fields out of InDesign CS6. When I make the interactive PDF, the font, Helvetica Neue  is being substituted with the default font, Times Roman. The client has provided me with last years PDF which has a nice San Serif for the editable fields. I need to change the font either to Helvetica Neue, or at least to a nice San Serif common system font. I have Acrobat X.
    Thanks in advance!!

    I called a friend of mine who walked me through this so I will post the instructions for anyone else who may be having this problem...
    1. Open the PDF with the form fields in a recent version of Acrobat.
    2. Click on the Toolls tab.
    3. Under Forms, click Edit.
    4. Now you will see your fields listed under "Field" > "Sort by"...  "Text Field 1"...  etc.
    5. Holding "control" click where it says "Text Field 1" and some options will pop up.
    6. Click on "Properties".
    7. A "Text Fields Properties" window will pop up.
    8. Click on the "Appearance" tab.
    9. Here you can change your fonts and font sizes.
    Good luck!

  • Email editor default font

    Hi all,
    We are using the email editor in the webclient, which is build-up via javascript.
    Now we are experiencing a problem with the default font.
    It should be arial 11, but it always shows Times New Roman.
    I have already played around with the tables TBTFFONTMAPDEF and TBTFFONTMAP.
    This doesn't change anything.
    I have deleted the Times new roman font from the table TBTFFONTMAPDEF (then the system dumps). I have set the Arial to language Dutch, but it always takes the language * also. I have deleted all fonts where language was equal to * except for Dutch, but since this is a dropdown, when you click on the box, it closes IE7...
    I have already tried filling the TBTFFONTMAP table, since this is a customer table. With no succes.
    Does anybody know how I can change this default font??
    Thanks in advance.
    Micha
    helpful answers will be rewarded!

    Hello Micha,
    Since you don't had any response yet, I'll share my experience in the past concerning this subject.
    I've also searched a way to change default font in ICWC 4.0 about two years ago. I didn't find any customization for this, and at the time I don't found any way to change the default font using only custom objects.
    I remember that the html dropdown box code is built at RENDER_DEFAULT_FONTNAME method, at class CL_BTF_BSP_EDITOR.
    Inside that method there is a call like this:
    l_configuration = document->get_configuration( ).
    In l_configuration variable, there is an attribute DEFAULT_FONT that is initially setted to value 'TIMES'. Unfortunally, even by changing this value in debugging, it didn't change the default font to another one.
    I ended giving up to do this changing (since was not important also). However, I hope this information may help you go a little further...
    Maybe in future releases the default font may be included in the email profile
    Best of lucks.
    Regards,
    Bruno

  • How to set a different default font

    Is there a way to set a different font other that Myriad Pro as the default font so that you don't have to continually reset it for every field or label???

    During import, Designer attempts to match fonts in the PDF file with fonts that are available on your computer. If the file contains an unavailable font, Designer displays a dialog box showing the missing font and a suggested replacement. You can accept the replacement font or change it.
    This font substitution is not permanent. Designer must map the unavailable fonts every time the form opens. You can make the font substitution permanent by selecting File > Save As and then selecting Permanently Replace Unavailable Fonts before saving the file. This method is recommended for permanently substituting fonts.
    You can also set up a font-substitution table in the file ConvertPDF_FontMap.txt in the Designer installation directory. If you add a font-substitution rule to this file, all occurrences of the substituted font are changed to the new font when you import a PDF, regardless of the font-mapping table and regardless of whether the substituted font is available on your computer.
    ConvertPDF_FontMap.txt is empty by default. Each entry you add should have the following syntax:
    input_font=Designer_font
    where input_font is the name of the font used in the input PDF file, and Designer_font is the name of the font that is installed on your computer. Asterisks (*) represent wildcard characters. For example, the string *Cour* refers to all font names that contain the string Cour. Question marks (?) represent single-character wildcards. Adding wildcard characters before and after the input_font name accounts for any slight variations in the name of the font in the form. For example
    *Arial*=Arial
    *Helv*=Arial
    *Cour*=Courier New
    *=Times New Roman
    Processing occurs in descending order. The last line in the example converts all remaining fonts to Times New Roman.

  • Change default font & default font size

    As far as I can make out it's not possible to reset the default font or font size in LC Designer ES 8.2........or is it, & if so, how?
    I found this page re LC ES3, but it doesn't seem to apply to earlier versions.
    TIA

    Hi,
    Designer uses predefined objects which are stored as *.xfo files unser your user account.
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Designer\10.0\DE\Objects\Standard
    You can open such files with any simple text editor and modify them.
    For example, you open the NumericEdif.xfo in your editor.
    Them you'll see an XML file where you'll find the information for the typeface and the size.
    <field name="NumerischesFeld" y="0mm" x="0mm" w="67.056mm" h="9mm">
                   <ui>
                      <numericEdit>
                         <border>
                            <edge stroke="lowered"/>
                         </border>
                         <margin/>
                      </numericEdit>
                   </ui>
                   <font size="10pt" typeface="Arial"/>
                   <margin topInset="1mm" bottomInset="1mm" leftInset="1mm" rightInset="1mm"/>
                   <para vAlign="middle"/>

                         <text>Numerisches Feld</text>
                      </value>
                   </caption>
                </field>
    Just change the name of the typeface and the size in the way you like and save the file.
    You don't need to restart Designer, the next tiome you choose the nemueric field, it's created with the new font settings.
