Identify Kernal prior to upgrade to Mav..

Can someone identify what these two items are and if they can be removed safely so as not screw with M-Lion.
I suspect that the Lacie refers to the 500g drive I use for Time machine. I have removed all trace of Lacie stuff (Manager, Utilities etc) as I have reformated drive to Apple specs prior to use as Time machine as I read these are nothing but trouble.
Kernel Extensions:
         com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt      (0.0.67)
         com.LaCie.ScsiType00      (1.2.13 - SDK 10.5)
I have also removed.....
Problem System Launch Daemons:
       [System]           de.novamedia.nmnetmgrd.plist 3rd-Party support link
which I suspect was to do with a Mobile Data dongle from Three.
Many thanks,

I would agree with your plan, especially if you do not use a BlackBerry any more. You should be able to get rid of both of those kernel extensions without a problem. But make a backup first just in case.

After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading. I have no special software like numbers or anything else installed on either device. Just using the default viewer provided by apple for viewing email.

The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.
Is there anyone out there that is viewing .xls files in email using ios6 w/o any other software installed like numbers or any other add ons? I am not upgrading my ipad from ios5 to ios6 so I can still continue to view the emails on my ipad. Is there an email viewer .xls plug-in that will be availablle in the next ios6 update?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Cannot open any Pages documents made prior to upgrading to Yosemie. Pages does not appear in the iCloud list in system preferences.

Upgraded to Yosemite. Upgraded Pages to latest version. Uninstalled older versions of pages (made with iWork '09). Now I cannot open any Pages documents made prior to upgrading. I keep getting the same redundant message: "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. You can download the latest version of Pages from the Mac App Store." Not sure if this is relevant, but Pages does not show up in the iCloud list in systems preferences.

Ok, I found pages on the iCloud drive. But the behavior of Pages is still the same, problem unchanged.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It depends on the iLife (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) and iWork (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) versions you have.
If you have got iLife '11 and iWork '09, you will be able to update the applications for free, but if you have got an older version, you will have to pay for them in the App Store

  • How can I save books in my Kindle app to iTunes prior to upgrade to ios5

How can I move purchased books in my Kindle app to iTunes prior to upgrade to iOS 5. Thanks.

Your Kindle books are stored on your Amazon account - so you should be able to re-download them from Amazon if they get removed by the update process (I think that mine were stored in the backup and were therefore restored to the iPad by the upgrade process).

  • What to do prior to upgrading to Leopard from Tiger on an iMac G5

So with the iphone coming and requiring 10.5 + i needed to up from my ancient tiger to leopard. I thought i'd get my parents mac mini too while i'm in the upgrade mode. I did the mac mini first so i could "test" on them in case of bad things....sure enough. errors, issues, and it said it must reformat. the cool thing was that my parents didn't really store anything on there so i went ahead with that. Now though I need to do the iMac G5 (mine), I'd really rather not have to reformat etc. but will if need be. i've copied my hd to an external and have a copy of everything (so i think).
What else do i need to do in case or before I upgrade the OS?
The leopard disc is 10.5.6 from the box set i got.

    Before a major upgrade:
First: Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Second: Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive.
Source means the internal startup drive.
    Third: *Install the upgrade*
For greater protection install the upgrade on the clone. If all is well then you can install the upgrade on your main drive.
I would upgrade any third-party software for compatibility with the new OS X version prior to the upgrade.

  • Kernal crashes after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mtn. Lion, 2 strange things have happened.
First, and most importantly, about once a day, my computer crashes unexpectedly.  I have attached a jpg of the error report without my UUID.  Any ideas about how to trouble shot the cause hardware? software? or what.
Secondly, the box that asks for my password when adding new applications, is partially written in Hebrew.  If I type my password in the correct spot (in English), everything proceeds normally ! (I deleted my name for privacy concerns).  I have done work in Hebrew using Phototshop CS6.
Should I reload Mt. Lion??? Will this screw up drivers that are now working for my Epson 9900 printer?
Should I erase by Macintosh HD and re-load OS?
This images below refers to the second issue and the kernal report.
    Thanks for any help.

    zoharartist wrote:

This can sometimes be fixed by going to system preferences/language & text/language and using the Edit button to uncheck the box for Hebrew and then restarting.

  • Any benefit to combining Family plan through AOL prior to upgrading phones?

My wife and I are looking at upgrading to the new iphones. We are both eligible, and are not grandfathered into unlimited data. We currently are the only 2 people on our family plan, but also are talking with other family members about combining their lines with ours through AOL (acceptance of liability).
    My question is:
Is there any reason we need to figure out the AOL combinations *prior* to us ordering our iphones?
From the limited amount of time I've read on the AOL option tonight, it seems that when you bring in different lines from different family plans together into 1 combined plan, that each line retains its own original contract expiration/upgrade elibility date. Is that correct?
If we upgrade our phones then:
    A) bring other family members (currently locked into their own 2 yr contract) into OUR plan
    OR
    B) have our family members (currently locked into their own 2 yr contract) bring us into THEIR plan
Either way, do we have to figure out A vs. B prior to the wifey and I just ordering the iphones while it's still just the 2 of us on our family plan?
    Much thanks in advance!

Ok, well shoot. Ordered last night as got too excited and couldn't think of any issues.
Guess we're limited then to option A I mentioned earlier. (Keeping our existing account, and bringing in others family members' lines to our account -- would affect their warranty then I take it).

  • Panic kernal attack when upgrading OS

The last 4 times I have attempted to update from Lion to Mountain Lon and 1 try on Mavericks, I have gotten a panic kernal attack on the initial reboot.  I then have to rebuild my Mac from Lion.  Apple support has been unable to help me and I really don't want to do a complete clean install.  The last time there must have been some damage of some type done as my MacBook Pro now runs quite slow even after Disk & Permissions were checked and corrected.  Can anyone give me some help on this?  I am currently at 10.7.5 on 2.53Ghz Intel Core i5 with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.

Boot with the D key and run the hardware test.
You should backup your data before upgrading anything.  Once backed up we can isolate your problem further.

  • Steps I took on my S3 prior to upgrading to KitKat

I'm unsure if this actually worked, or if I was one of the lucky ones. I'm average tech-wise, but took my time and read a lot of forums prior to installing KitKat.
Here's what I did, very simply. Hope it works for you too:
    1. Deleted any unused / unwanted apps. Installed any updates available for the keepers.
    2. Moved any apps stored on the SD card over to device memory. (I did this since the KitKat doesn't write files to SD card - figured this may make the new OS install with less glitches).
    3. Installed and ran Clean Master (Clean Master - Free Optimizer - Android Apps on Google Play). This freed up over 5GB of space on the S3 device memory!
    4. Ran KitKat installation.
    5. Held breath.
    6. Messed with a few settings and charged overnight.
So far for the past 5 hours this morning I have experienced no issues, and seemingly better battery life.
    Good luck!

Thanks for this info. Did you upgrade to KitKat from JellyBean or an earlier version? My S3 got the JellyBean update in December and my device has been terrible ever since. Battery life plummeted, numerous wifi and settings issues surfaced, among other things. VZW Customer Service has been basically useless, both here on the forum and on Twitter. I'm hesitant to upgrade to KitKat if it doesn't fix what JellyBean broke or breaks something else.
    Thanks in advance.
