Identify TV shows as "first" run or "Re"Runs

How do I identify TV shows as a first run or a rerun?  Just switched from Direct TV to Verizon Fios TV.  Direct TV identified the first time a TV show ran under "info" - apparently Verizon Fios does not.  Any suggestions?
Thank you.
JHJ

Just another viewer who wishes the Guide would be more accurrate.  A lot of the time, they don't have any information, just a general
program description, e.g. Leno, Dateline, etc.
My very favorite was before a presidential debate between Obama and McCain.  For days, the Guide info was "Final presidential debate
between Bush and Kerry".   I thought maybe they were going to re-run the '04 debate!
This just exemplified how awful the Guide is, and how nobody bothers to even read it (wherever it comes from), because I cannot believe
anyone could be that badly uninformed.

    I have also set the following:

    But still on first running say Word 2013 I get the "Welcome" screen...
    So what am I missing?

  • Show not flagged as "first run" in listings, causing dvr headaches

    As of 21 April 2014, "The Boondocks" episode that airs on Cartoon HD at 10:30pm EDT each Monday is a first run.  However, the listings on my FiOS guide don't show it as such, so if I have my dvr set to record first run only, it doesn't record ANYTHING.  If I eliminate the first run requirement, it schedules EVERY airing of the show to record.  Please fix this.  Thank you.

    One area I saw a major improvement (about 2.5x faster) was in the processing of Magic Bullet effects, specifically Colorista and Looks.
    If you use those effects at all (or any others that may be processed on the GPU), the extra CUDA cores really do make a significant difference.

  • How can I disable the 'First Run' and 'Whats New' pages from showing after updating Firefox for all users that log onto a system.

    I am a system administrator and need a way to set a global preference to not open the Whats New and first run pages. I found the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone preference in the user profile but want to be able to set this globally.

    Use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify default values.
    Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
    You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
    defaultPref(); // set new default value
    pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
    lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • New DVR Issues (First Run, Channel Switching, etc.)

    I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to find answers through the search with no luck, so sorry if I missed something.
    I recently switched to FIOS from RCN cable in New York.  I've gone through trying to setup my DVR and am running into issues and was hoping for some answers.
    1.  I setup two programs to record at 8PM, I was watching another channel at the time and only half paying attention.  Around 8:02 I noticed a message had popped up asking if I would like to switch channels to start recording.  I was expecting it to force it to switch like my old DVR, but in this case it didn't switch and I missed the first two minutes of one of the shows.  I typically leave my DVR on all day and just turn off the TV, this dual show handling will cause issues with that if I forget to turn off the DVR.  Is there a setting I can change that will force the DVR to choose one of the recording channels?
    2.  I setup all my recordings for "First Run" because I only want to see the new episodes.  One show I setup was The Daily Show on comedy central, which is shown weeknights at 11pm and repeated 3-4 times throughout the day.  My scheduled recordings is showing all these as planned recordings even though only the 11pm show is really "new".  Most of the shows I've setup are once a week so they aren't a problem, but this seems like it will quickly fill my DVR.  Any fixes?
    Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I came from RCN about a year ago.  Fios is different in several ways, not all of them desirable.  Here are several ways to get--and fix--unwanted recordings from a series recording setup.
    Some general principles.
    Saving changes.  When you originally create a series with options, or if you go back to edit the options for an existing series, You MUST save the Series Options changes.  Pretty much everywhere else in the user interface, when you change an option, the change takes effect immediately--but not in Series Options.  Look at the Series Options window.  Look at the far right side.  There is a vertical "Save" bar, which you must navigate to and click OK on to actually save your changes.  Exiting the Series Options window without having first saved your changes loses all your attempted changes--immediately.
    Default Series Options.  This is accessed  from [Menu]--DVR--Settings--Default Series Options.  This will bring up the series options that will automatically be applied to the creation of a NEW series. The options for every previously created series will not be affected by a subsequent modification of the Default Series Options.  You should set these options to the way you would like them to be for the majority of series recordings that you are likely to create.  Be sure to SAVE your changes.  This is what you will get when you select "Create Series Recording" from the Guide.  When creating a new series recording where you think that you may want options different from the default, select "Create Series with Options" instead.  Series Options can always be changed for any individual series set up later--but not for all series at once.
    Non-series recordings.  With Fios you have no directly available options for these.  With RCN and most other DVRs, you can change the start and end times for individual episodes, including individual episodes that are also in a series.  With Fios, your workarounds are to create a series with options for a single program, then delete the series later;  change the series options if the program is already in a series, then undo the changes you made to the series options later; or schedule recordings of the preceding and/or following shows as needed.
    And now, to the unwanted repeats.
    First, make sure your series options for the specific series in question--and not just the series default options--include "First Run Only".  If not, fix that and SAVE.  Then check you results by viewing the current options using the Series Manager app under the DVR menu.
    Second, and most annoying, the Guide can have repeat programs on your channel tagged as "New".  It happens.  Set the series option "Air Time" to "Selected Time".  To make this work correctly, you must have set up the original series recording after selecting the program in the Guide at the exact time of a first run showing (11pm, in your case), and not on a repeat entry in the Guide.  Then, even it The Daily Show is tagged as New for repeat showings, these will be ignored.
    Third, another channel may air reruns of the program in your series recording, and the first showing of a rerun episode on the other channel may be tagged as "New".  These can be ignored in your series if you set the series option "Channel" to "Selected Channel".  Related to this, if there is both an SD and HD channel broadcasting you series program, you will record them both if the series option "Duplicates" is set to "Yes".  However, when the Channel option is set to "Selected Channel", the Duplicates Option is always effectively "No", regardless of what shows up on the options screen.
    As for you missing two minutes,  I have sereral instances in which two programs start recording at the same time.  To the best of my recollection, whenever the warning message has appeared, ignoring it has not caused a loss of recording time.  You might have an older software version.  Newest is v.1.8.  Look at Menu--Settings--System Info.  Or, I might not have noticed the loss of minutes.  I regularly see up to a minute of previous programming at the start of a recording, or a few missing seconds at the beginning or end of a recording.  There are a lot of possibilities for that, but the DVR clock being incorrect is not one of them.  With RCN, the DVR clocks occasionally drifted off by as much as a minute and a half.

  • Photoshop Elements 6 - PDF slide show won't run when email is opened

    I have created a slide show in Photoshop Elements 6 as a PDF file and sent it to myself as a trial run. Although I have selected the 'loop' option the show does not run automatically when the email attachement is opened as I believe it should. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

    It comes to something when I have to answer my own question!  However I have to admit I did have a little help from an earlier question which was thrown up by a search I did! It seems that when a PDF show is emailed and the recipient is asked whether the show should be opened in full screen or not; the answer should be 'yes' in order for the show to start automatically.
    If the recipient answers 'no' the show stays stuck on the first slide. Hope this help anyone else who may have the same problem.

  • Video not working on the first run of Android app

    I couldn't find any results regarding this problem. Maybe I'm just using wrong keywords as it is difficult to explain.
    Has anyone else encountered that video is not working on the first run of Android app? By first run I mean directly after installing. I'm using NetConnection, NetStream, Video objects and GPU renderMode. By working I mean it's not showing and can't hear the audio. I haven't yet debugged deeper so I don't know if the problem is actually related to the code loading the video.
    I've encountered the following issues, which may or may not be related, regarding the the first run and Video object:
    - The first run takes about 20 seconds to start. After that, the start is pretty much instant. If you clear app's cache, it again takes the 20 seconds to launch. The video works after clearing app's cache.
    - When creating the first Video object, the app flashes screen to black for a few frames. This is why I create a dummy Video object in the beginning.
    I use AIR 13, going to upgrade to 14, but I'm quite sure this problem and the issues have been for a while.

    I should add that we're using flv, not mp4. And they're progressively downloaded, not local.

  • The first run page keeps opening every time I open my home page, how do I turn it off?

    When I first downloaded FF 4 on my netbook I got the first run, welcome to FF 4 screen. As usual. But it keeps coming back. Every time I open FF it opens the welcome screen in the first tab and in the second tab is my home screen.
    If FF is already open and I want to open my home screen in another tab, it simultaneously the welcome screen in one tab and my home screen in another.
    I will not upgrade the rest of my machines to either FF4 or 5 until this is fixed.

    A couple of possible causes, you have multiple home pages set, or the preferences file can not be updated. For details on both of those, see [[Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]].

  • How do I remove "first run" window after having opened and used FF many times?

    When I open FF, 2 tabs are presented, the first is the "first run" window the other is my homepage. I would like to delete or remove the first run page

  • Distinguishing First Run and Rerun for DVR Recording

    If you want to record a series, not just a single show, the only choice you have is to record BOTH First-Run episodes AND Reruns.  I note that Direct TV users and TiVo users have a choice when recording a series by selecting First Run Only or First Run and Repeats.  Without this discriminate, shows that repeat habitually throughout the day and week are recorded.  This is a major inconvenience if your recording are almost exclusively series TV shows.  It becomes very inconvenient for series broadcast on HBO, where throught the week multiple series and reruns--for example Boardwalk Empire--are all playing in a single week.  The lack of this feature--that other services already have--is a major shortcoming.

    Something odd there.  Which DVR model?
    Should be press DVR button scrool to manage series recordings, press right, scroll to show, press ok,  (options including change priority, modify series and cancel series.  Modify Series. press ok.  Options on that include episodes (first run only/first run and repeats). Scroll to episodes, press enter, change as desired, press ok, push right to save, press ok. close menus, may have to do repeated exits.
    You may also want to find the dvr settings to set your default options for creating series recordings.  menu/settings/system/dvr/default series options

  • Applescript freezes upon first run when getting 'text of document 1 of application "Safari" '

    I'm working on an applescript that searches the text of a Safari web page for specific text.  The script  freezes / hangs / times out ONLY during the "first run".  By "first run"  I mean the first time the script is run after a period of time has passed. If the script is run a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time, etc soon thereafter it works perfectly.  If you then wait an extended period of time again, the script freezes exactly as if it were a "first run".  This appears to be independent of whether Safari is open or closed, i.e. the script freezes even if Safari remains open between the last working run and the "first run".
    Details:
    A web page is opened.  I subsequently confirm the page is fully loaded with the following code set-up as a handler:
    tell application "Safari"
         repeat with i from 1 to 15
         if (do JavaScript "document.readyState" in current tab of window 1) is "complete" then
                             exit repeat -- page loading is complete, exiting loop
         else
                             delay 1
         end if
         end repeat
         if i is greater than or equal to 15 then return false
         if i is less than 15 then return true
    end tell
    The Applescript event log confirms loading is complete and returns a value of true.  I can see the page is fully loaded, and in testing it is fully functional. All is good.
    I then search the text of the fully loaded web page for specific text.  It is this next step where Applescript hangs, but ONLY on the "first run":
    set searchTerm to "find this"
    if text of document 1 of application "Safari" contains (searchTerm as string) then
         -- do stuff
    end if
    The event log shows that applescript starts to "get every text of document 1" and even returns the initial text of the web page but hangs.  Applescrpt returns the following error: "Safari got an error: AppleEvent timed out.  Error -1712".  If I rerun the script at this point the full text of the web page is immediately displayed in the event log, and the script continues succesfully to the end.  The "IF" statement is not the issue per se because I get the same error if I remove the IF and instead set a variable to the value of 'text of document 1 of application "Safari".
    Bottom line - Applescript seems to hang while returning the text of the fully loaded web page, but ONLY on "first run". Any ideas?
    Note:  I've run this directly as an applescript and as a service via Automator.  Same result. I also tried putting the computer to sleep briefly, wake and rerunning the script.  This does not repeoduce the problem so while extended gaps in use cuases the problem, it does not appear that going to sleep during this time is sufficient to cause the issue.

    Thank you twtwtw, very helpful!
    I tried fiddling around with the name of the input variable(s): $@, $0, and $1, and although I could get it to work somewhat, the hangup was always on high ASCII characters like …, —, °, etc…  (They were called “high ASCII” in the old days, perhaps they are called something else now.)
    Checking the long list of output encodings via iconv --list, and trying a bunch of them didn’t work for me.
    But the real trick that worked for me was to do as you said and to change the “Pass input” menu to “to stdin.”
    However, using -t ASCII was suboptimal for high ASCII, so I changed it to -t UTF-8-MAC and it works perfectly now, all the wild international characters and punctuation are maintained! Hooray!  However, upon further testing, removing the pipe to iconv, it seems it’s not needed.
    So this is the final command:
    awk 'BEGIN{print "<ul>"} {print"<li>"$0"</li>"} END{print "</ul>"}'
    So for now this is the whole recipe to create Contextual Menu Items for the Services menu that replaces text snippets with HTML code surrounding them.
    1. Create a new Automator Service document.
    2. Check the box “Output replaces selected text.”
    3. Choose Actions, under Library choose Utilities, then drag Run Shell Script to the working area of the window.
    4. Set the Pass input menu to “to stdin.”
    5. Paste in the command (above).
    6. Save it; I prefix my HTML CMIs with HTML (space space), so this one is, “HTML  unordered list.”
    7. Begin using it. :-)
    Since it took me a while to cobble together the other ones I made, I should probably share them.  Once I get the time to bring over the other “involved” ones I’ll see if I can find out where is the best place to do that.
    Thank you both, red_menace, and twtwtw for your help!

  • Slide show won't run

    I run the latest release of IPhoto 9 (from iLife 2011) on an i5 IMac running the latest update of OS 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    Suddenly, Slide Show will not run from the IPhoto browser.
    When I click the slide show start arrow, the screen dips to black for one second and then returns to where I was in the browser.  No slide show options screen; absolutely no slide show under any circumstances except random screen saver.
    Is there a patch for this bug ?  If not, would deleting and reinstalling any named file(s) solve this annoying software failure?

    It comes to something when I have to answer my own question!  However I have to admit I did have a little help from an earlier question which was thrown up by a search I did! It seems that when a PDF show is emailed and the recipient is asked whether the show should be opened in full screen or not; the answer should be 'yes' in order for the show to start automatically.
    If the recipient answers 'no' the show stays stuck on the first slide. Hope this help anyone else who may have the same problem.

    OK, here is my complete code block for my news section. This
    page is goign
    to be redone, but I would still like to understand why it's
    not working -
    why I'm not correctly resetting a recordset.
    Recordset rsArticle is only populated if gID is sent in the
    url
    Here we see that the rsArticle to be displayed is only shown
    if there is a
    gID:
    <?php if ($totalRows_rsArticle > 0) { // Show if
    recordset not empty
    ?>
    <h2><?php echo $row_rsArticle['newsTitle'];
    ?></h2>
    <p><?php echo $row_rsArticle['newsAuthor'];
    ?><br />
    <?php echo $row_rsArticle['newsDateEdited'];
    ?></p>
    <?php $mc_pic = $row_rsArticle['newsPicture'];
    if ($mc_pic != "") { ?>
    <img class="newsimg"
    src="app/app_get_img.php?image_path=<?php
    echo $mc_pic?>&sz=article" />
    <?php }
    echo $row_rsArticle['newsContent']; ?></p>
    <?php } // Show if recordset not empty ?>
    And here is the code to show if there is no gID:
    <?php if ($totalRows_rsArticle == 0) { // Show if
    recordset empty ?>
    Here is the first DoWhile statement, to repeat all *other*
    records. the
    rsNews Recordset is built using get all articles <>
    gID. If no gID, it
    fetches them all for a full listing, if gID, then it fetches
    only the
    articles NOT displayed by rsArticle. Cool so far, right?
    <?php do { ?>
    <a class="pbutton" href="news.php?cid=<?php echo
    $row_rsNews['newsID']; ?>">Full Story ...</a>
    <h3><?php echo $row_rsNews['newsTitle'];
    ?></h3>
    <?php echo $row_rsNews['newsShortDesc']; ?>
    <?php
    } while ($row_rsNews = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsNews));
    Now here, I'm *attempting* to reset rsNews to the first
    record in the
    recordset, so that I can reuse the recordset for another part
    of the page.
    Again, on this page it's not really necessary, but I have
    other areas of the
    site that this is crucial for me to be able to implement.
    mysql_data_seek($rsNews, 0);
    ?>
    Then it closes out the final If recordset is empty
    <?php } // Show if recordset empty ?>
    The reason I'd rather do this than just create another
    recordset is mostly
    simplicity. If I'm going to create another recordset, then I
    see little
    value in the recordsets - I can just set string variables and
    re-send a SQL
    statement. However, that method leaves the SQL as non DW
    accessible.
    Unless I'm missing something?
    Thanks for taking a look, if you get the chance. If you
    don't, I'm goign to
    keep trying to figure out a way I can do this.
    TIA,
    Jon

  • My compiled program crashes after first run (LabVIEW 2009)

    I have a compiled program created with LabVIEW 2009 that on the first run after the computer is re-booted will work fine but after shutting down the program it will not run properly.
    The program uses a compiled launcher to dynamically activate a set of VI's containing Queue Driven State Machines (QDSM).  On subsequent program starts the launcher module comes up fine and its progress bar shows that it is launching each of the VI's.  Once the launcher is complete it removes itself from memory leaving the dynamically launched VI's running.  The subsequent launches which fail the main user interface VI pops up barely long enough for the observer to see (if at all) then shuts down.  The program is then gone from memory as far as I can tell.  There are no processes in memory or anything.
    Additionally, the when I try to run the installed version of the exe on a computer that has the 2009 development environment installed I get this behavior consistently with a successful run even once.
    In both cases my program does not throw any errors (which are logged) nor does the runtime engine generate any that I can see.  Also, when I run my program in the development environment the program does not behave this way.  It has no problems at all.
    I have used this style of architecture before in LV8.6 with out any problems.  Can anyone suggest some possible solutions or even some debugging tips?  I have never had a problem that I could not duplicate in the development environment so I am unsure how begin attacking my issue.
    Thanks for any help.

    I have solved the problem I think (at least as far as testing to this point has revealed).   After I added in the ability to log the states passed to the QDSM's, I was able to determine that the program was "crashing" after I dynamically closed the front panel of the launcher.  My program was designed to close the front panel of the launcher then pop-up the front panel of the main UI.   My EXE is built on to contain the launcher with my other QDSM files being maintained externally in specific directories.  What appeared to be happening is that when the launcher closed its front panel and before the UI opened up the run-time engine would decide since there were no windows open it would close itself down.  This is my supposition about what may be happening any way.  I modified my code to changed the launcher window to hidden and delay for 1/2 a second to give the main UI a chance to start fully running.  This fixed the problem, or at least worked around it.  If someone out there can explain to me exactly what is happening I sure would appreciate it.
    Thanks for all the help those of you who responded.  Your advice was very beneficial and certainly led me to a resolution faster.
