Identifying a specific Hard Drive in the computer

Does anyone know how to physically find a specific drive in the rack of hard drives ( C: thru to G:) in my computer.
I wish to remove drive F;
Device Manager does not give any clues at to which is which and neither does Explorer.
Apart from Trial and Error Disabling ..which might mean I disable C: while doing so !!!!

Try Control Panel-Computer Management-Disc Manager
Right click the correct disc and select properties, this should show you which sata connector

Your backup drive has half the capacity of the internal drive. Depending on how much of the iMac's drive is full, the external drive may or may not be sufficient.
It is like trying to pour the contents of a gallon milk carton into a half gallon pitcher. You may be able to pour the entire contents into the pitcher - but not if the milk carton is more than half full.

I replaced my hard drive now the computer won't load operating system

I replaced my hard drive in my Powerbook G4 1.25 and it will not load the operating system, just locks up after it starts running. I ran the hardware test on the original disk and everything is suppose to be working. What can i do to fix the problem? HELP!

I take that to mean that you removed the old HDD and replaced it with a brand new Parallel ATA/IDE 2.5" HDD. Correct?

Do you mean that it will not boot from the install disk? or
Do you mean that you booted from the install drive disk, formatted your new HDD and installed the OS and now you cannot boot from the installation?
Here are directions for formatting and for installation:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.
Open installer and begin installation process.
Installation Process
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Open Installer and begin installation.
• Select installation option
• Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).

• After setup, reboot computer.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.

• Download and install Mac OS X 10.5.5 Combo Update (Leopard) or
Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC) (Tiger) or
10.3.9 Combo Update (Panther)
Computer will restart.
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
• Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
• Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.

I am selling my broken Macbook for parts, how can I erase my old hard drive without the computer working?

I destroyed my Macbook in a car accident and have found somebody to buy it for parts. To be safe I want to make sure the Hard Drive is void of all personal information before I hand it over. What are my options?

they do sell them at best buy. I just went to the best buy website and searched for "external enclosure". Make sure it is 2.5" as that is the size of laptop hard drives, not 3.5" as that is to hold desktop hard drives.

I have a Mac Pro with spaces for four hard drives.
I currently have only one hard drive, with Mac OS X 10.6 on it.
I am getting a new, second hard drive (a Solid State Drive). I want it to be my primary drive, to install Mac OS X 10.6 on that and use that as the startup disk.
I want to leave my original hard drive in the computer as a secondary drive.
I understand that the Migration Assistant can only import settings from another, separate, Mac? Is that true?
Or is it possible to tell Migration Assistant to get the settings from this older hard drive, even though it is on the very same computer?

MA will transfer your current system preferences to the SSD regardless of where they come from.
BTW, you will need a special mounting sled for the SSD. You should find them at OWC.

Strange iTunes Move from Old Hard Drive to New Computer

My friend's old computer exploded but the hard drive and its data are fine. He had iTunes on it (not sure what version) and I'm trying to figure out how to move iTunes to the new PC but I'm running into a few problems.
First of all, I hooked his old hard drive to the computer with an IDE to USB converter so it mounts as just another drive.
I then installed the latest iTunes on his new PC and when we hooked up his iPod, it asked to blank the thing out (so I hit Cancel).
So my question is a little more complicated than most since I have two things to accomplish here. I not only want to move his existing iTunes library to his new PC but I also need iTunes to work with his existing iPod. Hopefully, that won't involve wiping it since he has songs on his iPod that he doesn't have on his old iTunes, but perhaps I'll need to somehow get all his songs off his iPod, let iTunes wipe the iPod, then put them all back? I imagine I'd need to bring his iTunes library over first.
Anyone have any ideas of the steps necessary to make this dance happen? I'm very computer literate, so detailed explanations aren't needed. I just need general directions and what order to do them in.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the music on his iPod isn't completely the same as what's in his iTunes. This is what made this move so strange. I needed to figure out not only how to move his iTunes music collection to a new PC, but also how to keep iTunes from wiping his iPod since he has music on it that isn't in his iTunes.
Since the new iTunes won't recognize his iPod without wiping it, is there any way to manually pull the music off his iPod, somehow put it in his iTunes folder so iTunes recognizes it, allow iTunes to wipe his iPod so he can synchronize iTunes with it, and finally put all his music back on his iPod?

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

I authorized the computer (it is the ONLY computer authorized on this account - and this is the ONLY account on this iPad). ITunes then downloaded my purchases...or at least it tried - out of the hundreds of tracks I have purchased, it managed one album that I bought over a year ago and NOTHING else. So I tried to Sync - since on older versions of iTunes (that were SO MUCH MORE user friendly) that would do the job -transferring things that were only on the iPad onto the computer and vice versa. It doesn't do that anymore. So I went from my iPad's summary to the Music tab - the box for Music was not checked but when I checked it said the only thing it could do was erase EVERYTHING from my iPad and replace it with what was on my computer (that ONE album). What is going on?

First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.
