Identifying keyboards OS X 10.9.5

I have 2 USB keyboards on my Mac Mini.
I want to use one of them as a normal keyboard.
I want to assign many keyboard shortcuts to the other keyboard.
I am looking for an app that will do that.
Failing to find an app , I would like to know what system routines will identify the 2 keyboards and allow me to apply shortcuts to just one of them.
TIA
Gus in Denver

  • Identifying keyboard panel

    Hello all,
I am having issues identifying a keyboard panel I am about to put on eBay. I salvaged it fron an old i-Book before I scrapped it and for the life of me I cant remember the i-Book model. I could have sworn it was only a 12.1" screen but when I type the part number into google it returns a mix of 14 and 12.1" results. I also do not know what to refer to the connection type as. any help would be appreciated. The part number on the back is US KGL-A77WG

The part number does not match the usual Apple part series, in general, as those are more along the lines of these: 922-6638, 922-6901, 922-6189, 922-6637, 922-6913
A replacement or original keyboard for a 12" or 14" would have different length cables, if not more differences between their build and product designation. Too bad you didn't have the original serial number, as some spec info could be found in an online identify by serial number lookup; to include build month, year.
Note this page has a compatibility link in regard to iBook G4 keyboard:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/G4-iBook-Keyboard-Replacement---White-Ice-p-16595. html
922-6913 14" G4 iBook Keyboard: (see their spec info)

    922-6132 12" G4 iBook Keyboard
    http://www.welovemacs.com/9226132.html
A few leads (some false) appear along this line of search:
    http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=iBook+Keyboard+US+KGL-A77WG&ei=UTF-8&fr=
Hopefully you can match up the part with correct references.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Starting up MacPro for first time: it's stuck on identifying keyboard

I plugged in my moniter and my keyboard - my specialty editing keyboard, and it came up "Before you start" please verify keyboard - when it was hung, I tried plugging in standard keyboard that came with the MacPro, and turning the system on and off. It recognizes the mouse - It won't allow me to force quit, and it has been frozen on the "before you start" page for half an hour!
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Huranghu2

I just pressed the power button for 10 seconds to power down and restart. Duh. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get past the fire wire update option.

  • Xorg 1.8 upgrade and no keyboard/mouse [solved]

Well I took the plunge and did a Suy for the 1st time in 6 months or so today... all went well but I have no keyboard or mouse. I have read all the info on the modular configs and opted to stick with my original xorg.conf. Below are my xorg.conf and an Xorg.0.log. Any help is appreciated.

  • Keyboard layout switching not working

    i use xfce4 and i created /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "InputClass"
        Identifier             "Keyboard Defaults"
        MatchIsKeyboard        "yes"
        Option                 "XkbLayout" "us, ar"
        Option                 "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
    EndSection
    but it's not working.
xfce4 has a program called Keyboard in settings menu, i used it it gives the ability to add another language but it doesnt has a switching capability.

I don't use keyboard layout switch through xorg.conf because it stops to work sometimes(if i use setxkbmap for example).
So i am using setxkbmap in .xinitrc.
    setxkbmap -model pc105 \
    -layout "de,ru" \
    -variant "basic,phonetic" \
    -option -option "grp:sclk_toggle, grp_led:scroll, terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp, caps:none"
and "kbdd" for remembering layout for each window.
Change it to your needs or check the arch wiki about xorg.conf.d .

  • How do i print out the keyboard viewer?

I use different languages and need to use the different special characters so am switching among different keyboard layouts frequently.  I use the (on-screen) "Keyboard Viewer", but would like to print out the "Keyboard Viewer" for each language that I frequently use.  I can't see how to do this other than with e.g. screen capture which is less than ideal.  Does anybody know where there are e.g. images of each keyboard layout (including special characters you get by hitting "shift" etc.)?

  • [SOLVED] Can't change keyboard Layout on Xorg 1.8

    Hi all
I'm trying to configure the Input Hot-plugging on Xorg 1.8 but the keyboard layout is still on US keyboard and I need to change it.
I use some of the configurations of some people of the forum but it still on US, now my 10-evdev-conf file is like this:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboards Defaults"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "latam"
    Option "XkbModel" "microsoft"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    EndSection
If there are a similar topic, Can you put the link?
    Thanks

Sorry, but i found the problem, I saved 10-evdev.conf as 10-evdev-conf, and here is my code
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "be"

    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "mouse-all" ## to use a PS/2 mouse :P
    MatchIsPointer "on"
    Driver "evdev"
    EndSection
so I hope that someone can use this solve

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard-shortcuts "alt+." and "alt+d" don't work under X11

    Hi,
I switched from gentoo to archlinux and everything is running fine except my following really annoying problem:
The keycombinations "alt+." (insert the last parameter from the line before) and "alt+d" (delete the word under the cursor) don't work under X11 (in my xterm).
They work before I start X with bash and zsh btw...
    My "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-keyboard.conf" looks like
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "keyboard"
            MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
            Option "XkbLayout" "de"
            Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
            Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
            Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
It is really annoying without these keys working and I have no clue where to look. Can anyone give me a hint?
    Thanks

  • [Solved] Accents on US keyboards

    Hello everyone,
I have already solved this for my laptop, so I post the solution to help someone else.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505, with English-us keyboard. And my main language is Spanish, so I normally use accents like áéíóú, and ñ.
The solution suggested on the wiki was not helpful for me:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acc … _keyboards
You may consider adding this other solution to the wiki.
I have found that the us xkb layout already has an International variant, with all the accents, so, to enable the accents on a us layout you only have to edit /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi and correct the following two lines as follows:
    <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">us</merge>
    <merge key="input.xkb.variant" type="string">altgr-intl</merge>
    Save, exit, reboot.
To use the accents, just press the right Alt + the key you want
    Example: Alt+e = é
That way you get a lot of special characters (¿µñb®©œæøœïðßáöóíúüþëéåä, etc.)
    That's it.
There's no need to modify xorg.conf or install extra stuff/config files or scripts to modify the default layout.
    With this solution works perfect.
    Updated - June 30, 2010
The HAL solution doesn't work any more with Xorg 1.8, so I solved it by adding the keyboard layout and variant to xorg.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us"
    Option "XkbVariant" "intl"
    EndSection
Use "intl" variant to get á wit 'a, or "altgr-intl" to get á with AltGr+a

    Hello all,
    Excuse me for the delay,
For me, the problem with the Xmodmap suggested in the wiki was:
1- XKeyCaps program was buggy (didn't allowed me to select a keyboard)
2- The Example xmodmap file doesn't have the same keycodes of my keyoboard, so the solution was to manually create my own keyboard layout.
If I was going to create my own keyboard layout, I think that the most clear/clean solution is to create a custom layout for HAL. I was going to do that, taking the "us" layout as base, and that's how I found that the us layout already hast the international variant (and there are a few other variants, you can search the one that better fit your needs). The default International variant was good for me, so there was no need to create a new layout
I think that the Xmodmap solution is more like a patch, and it may create some problem or confusion in a future after several system updates...
Maybe some Arch expert can give us a better explanation about both solutions.
    Regards.

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard layout in xorg 1.9

I'm trying to add a Romanian layout and I don't know how.
Most of the topics I've seen are OLD. They may or may not've worked with previous xorg versions, I don't know. They certainly didn't for me.

The kind people from the IRC channel suggested I add this bit at the very end of the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file (instead of "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf" - tho it would've probably worked that way too):
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us, ro"
    Option "XkbVariant" "std"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:caps_toggle, grp_led:scroll"
    EndSection
Apparently it works. I just have to hold AltGr and press s, q , a, i, t, etc to type ș â ă î ț etc. But how do I set it to ; { } ] ' ", etc, like the default behaviour in Windows... ? I would like them to correspond to this layout.
Because this is not the "standard" ("std") version...
I may have to edit the "/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ro" file to map them.
    Unless there's a better way ?

  • I am about to buy a MacBookPro in Singapore. When I reach the "Configure your 13-inch MBP w/ Retina display" page I don't have the option of selecting a Keyboard. Instead, it says: Backlit Keyboard (Int'l English). Do you know what does that mean?

I want to buy a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display in Singapore through the web http://store.apple.com/sg/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MGX72ZP/A&step=config#hard ware and want to know what does Backlit Keyboard (Int'l English) mean.
Does it include other letters or symbols other than the latin qwerty ones?
I ask this question because it doesn't give me the option to select a language.
I hope someone can help me!
    Thanks a lot!

  • Wireless logitech keyboard - unable to set keyboard map in X.

    Hi,
i have a wireless usb keyboard - logitech k360. When I restart X i always have to manually set keyboard layout using "setxkbmap pl" which is little annoying.
My laptop keyboard has polish layout set correctly. I tried to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/keyboard.conf, but cannot find the right options. Here's how it looks now:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbModel" "logii350"
    Option "XkbLayout" "pl"
    Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
I've tried to remove option XkbModel, tried to set it to pc105 and now it is set to logii350 (I've searched through the /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/ to find my exact keyboard model but it isn't there).
Funny thing is, that when I type some polish character at my laptop keyboard, suddenly wireless keyboard gets good layout.
    Any thoughts?

Is this one with the Logitech Unifying Device receiver?
There are a few threads on this forum about it defaulting to the default QWERTY layout (hell, I have an AZERTY layout - not just as a locale, the key prints are AZERTY). It seems to be some udev bug.

  • Setting keyboard layout with Mate Desktop

    Hi everyone,
I use now Mate Desktop following the wiki <https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MATE>.
Since mate-display-manager doesn't work, I use SliM with auto login.
I'm using french dvorak keyboard (bépo), and I put it in System > Preferences > Keyboard, and removed the other one. But it's not working, it's using default US keyboard.
Does anyone had the same issue ?
    Thanks.

The DE doesn't matter if you change the keyboard layout in Xorg.
    Here's my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-keyboard.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us, ro(std)"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle, grp_led:scroll, terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
Make sure you don't have another keyboard section in some other xorg.conf (/etc/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf) or in a different *.conf file in the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/" folder. Because one may inhibit the other.

    Hey!
I got some success with disabling iBus in .xinitrc:

    # Option "XkbOptions" "compose:ralt, caps:escape, terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

DIsabling iBus solved autoconfig of keyboard to "no", and the new config with the addition of XkbModel solved not being able to use AltGr. I recon there is some bug in iBus and the config for X has changed in some way. Also, writing ^ and ~ and other characters in URxvt works now, as it has not worked for a long time, probably some years. I always thought there had something to do with Awesome.

    Identifier "keyboard"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XKBMODEL" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us,pl"
    Option "XkbVariant" "altgr-intl,"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
    EndSection
When using the .conf entry simply nothing happens.

    EDIT
I was able to identify my problem. See the following:
The above .conf does not work since Gnome seems to fetch a default US keyboard layout from somewhere which I cannot figure out where it is. Without any invocation from my side Gnome assumes this US keyboard. However, I do not want to us the default US keyboard layout but the altgr-intl option.

So as a workaround I have to run setxkbmap -layout us -variant altgr-intl after Gnome had started. But I would like to understand how Gnome assigns the default keyboard layouts.

I still do not understand where the default keyboard layout is taken from. However, I use a workaround and created a file .keyboard in my home directory which is launched after startup of Gnome and changes the layouts according to my setkxbmap settings.
    More information.
