Identifying the on-board graphics controller

I re-installed Windows 7.0 prof. on a Dell Vostro 260 i3 PC. Unfortunately I neglected to check the drivers for the machine in device manager before I installed Windows. Now I have a problem to determine which of the eight possible display drivers on the Dell support site to install. I tried three according to specifications for these machines that I found on-line, however, none of the three works.
How can I identify what on-board display card is in the machine and which driver I should install? Currently only the generic Windows VGA driver is installed which is useless for the particular monitor that I'm using. Unfortunately I cannot go on-line with the affected machine since I only have a WiFi connection and the machine is not Wi-Fi enabled.

Look in Device Manager for the hardware and vendor ID, then look up the numbers on the PCIDatabase.com site.
8086 is Intel's vendor ID.

  • How do i turn off the on-board graphics?

I'm trying to install a saphire hd 7850 2gb OC edition but when i turn on my computer the fans spin once and the computer doesnt turn on ive been told i have to turn off the on-board graphics but dont know how, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Look more like a power or short circuit issue when the fans only spins once. Make sure all power cables are connected.

  • The Intel Mac Mini uses on-board graphics... how good are they?

I'm seriously considering getting an Intel Mac Mini and telling all my friends to get one, too. However, there's one problem - the graphics.
The whole reason I'd want an Intel Mac would be so that I could dual-boot into Windows Vista (when it comes out) in order to play the latest games.
How suitable are the on-board graphics for gaming? Would it be able to play Halo and Command & Conquer Generals well?
Basically, I want to know if it's the equivalent of a 64 MB graphics chip in speed, or if having on-board graphics makes it a bit slower. Does it have hardware acceleration? And is it suitable for smooth casual gaming at an average resolution?

I am very uneasy about finding integrated graphics in the new mini too.
When I first saw the new Mini website on Apple's website I was so excited "intel processor", "4 usb ports", "faster drives" but something was missing from the website; the "graphics" sub-category. I instantly wondering what was up with that, thinking right away obviously the graphics weren't good enough to brag about. I was right. On Apple's MacMini website, on the "Intel Core" sub-category page, bottom of the page, right side there's a weee comment on integrated graphics, "oh." was my only thought.
It's really disappointing to see integrated graphics in the new Mini. That AND the increase in price. The price of the Intel iMac dropped by $100 when it got introduced, but the Intel Mini's price goes up $100 upon introduction, further closing the price between the iMac and the Mini and making the iMac looking more and more attractice in terms of features-performance-price-value. I better run out and buy a Intel iMac before Apple removes the miniDVI-out port (which I'm predicting it will be removed in the next iMac revision)
Hopefully some Intel MacMini review tests in the coming weeks will reveal better-than-expected graphics performance.
I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this but... doesn't anyone here see that Apple has given us a preview of what's to come by putting integrated graphics in the new Intel MacMini? -- Anyone? I'll tell you -- we're going to see the exact same integrated graphics in the upcoming Intel iBooks, that's what.

  • RD330 - using PCIe-based SSD and on-board RAID controller at the same time?

I've got a RD330 (4304-E1U) with the on-motherboard RAID controller and an OCZ Z-Drive R4 PCIe-based SSD.  Basically the SSD looks to the system like a PCIe SATA controller with a single SATA disk attached.  If I leave the on-board RAID disabled in the BIOS (Setup -> Advanced -> Sata/SAS Configuration -> Disable SCU Devices=ENABLED), then the system sees the OCZ drive just fine and I can select it as my boot device.  Works like a champ, screaming fast.
I *also* need access to the disks attached to the built-in SAS backplane on the server, but if the on-board RAID is turned off, then you can't access those disks.  When you go into the BIOS setup and turn on the on-board RAID (Setup -> Advanced -> SATA/SAS Configuration -> Disable SCU Devices=DISABLED), then the LSI RAID array configuration shows up during POST (as expected) but the OCZ messages do NOT appear during POST, and the OCZ no longer shows up in the BIOS as a boot device.  It's like the SSD isn't even there when the on-board RAID is turned on.
I don't really need any RAID functionality on those disks, I just need access to them from the OS, but I need to boot from the SSD in the PCIe slot.  Is there a way for both the on-board RAID controller *AND* an additional PCIe disk controller to be active at the same time?

I have had a 2.0 USB hub connected to the USP port on my AEBS for almost a year for a printer and a HD. Initially I had intermittent connectivity to the HD but never the printer. As Apple upgraded the software/firmware for the AEBS, the problems have stopped. Reliability has been 100% for several months. Go for it.

  • Disable on board graphics card

How can I disable the on board graphics card on my P&-1227c? I am trying to install an new video card and it keeps coming up blank but when I take it out everything works agian. It came with Windows 7 installed so I do not have the secure boot configuration in my BIOS. My BIOS is the 7.7 version for the Jasmine motherboard. Is there a new version I can download?

Thank you for the additional information.
I have reviewed the specs of the video card.  It appears to require a minimum of 400W.  Your new PSU should take care of the problem.  Corsair sells very good products.
The only BIOS updates that will work with HP motherboards are those provided by them.  None of the retail versions will work properly.

I think that the key here is going from a 32 bit to 64 bit computer operating system where Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13 can become 64 bit application in a Windows 7 or 8.1 64 bit computer operating system. The increased computer resources implication of that should increase the frequency of getting the larger project taken to a successful complete more than before. A lot of this has to do with multitasking potential.
Premiere Elements does not support CUDA as seen in high end video cards/graphics cards. Since Premiere Elements 9, Premiere Elements has no GPU accelerated effects. But, I would decide on the best card for you based on overall computer rather than just for use in Premiere Elements. If you are interested in computer games, that will impact your card decision.
The use of a non super NVIDIA or ATI card should work for you. But, I have used neither.
I would consider more installed RAM, depending on your computer motherboard slots.
You might want to discuss the choice of the card with NVIDIA.

  • Correctly Identifying the PowerMac G4 MDD I Own

Back in the fall as a spare house computer, I picked up a PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1.42 Tower.   As I do all the upgrading, repair and/or maintenance on our computers this particular PowerMac is throwing me for a loop as far as properly identifying it in knowing the exact model I can draw from in order to obtain the correct parts etc.   It appears that this particular Tower has gone through quite a metamorphosis in its lifetime in that the side outer case label serial number/description indicates that it was originally a Dual 1.0 GHz while the serial number listed in "About This Mac" when referenced here in the Support "Tech Specs" section list it as a MDD Dual 1.25 GHz .   To complicate matters the same "About This Mac" tab as well as within the "System Profiel" itself list my MDD as a "Dual 1.42 GHz Power PC G4 2 MB L3 cache per processor" respectively.   In doing my own research, it would appear that the original Dual 1.0 GHz processor was upgraded at some point to a Dual 1.42 GHz.   This all makes as my G4 MDD Dual 1.42 GHz does not possess a Firewire 800 port and despite having four (4) RAM slots, it appears to max out at 2 GB's.  My conclusion therefore has been to assess that in all other instances other then the processor itself, I still basically have a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.0 GHz and therefore if I should ever need to make repairsand/or acquire additional parts as far as following the correct specs as a guidline I should look only at this model as a reference.   My question is I am correct in this assumption or is there anything additional I should consider or be informed about ?

Sounds like your assumptions are correct, but the ramifications have little limitation with regard to parts, upgrades.....
In the long run, and unless you have a FW800 logic board, the only parts that are different between all the MDD/FW800 machines are the logic boards and Airport/Airport Extreme cards.
All the MDD/FW800 machines can use the same drives, optical and hard, same 2GB max RAM (PC2700 except for the DP 867 MDD, 1.0 FW800), same 4x AGP graphics cards, same PCI cards, same PSU, same power switch board, etc., etc.
Only the logic boards are different within the MDD/FW800 models, and non-FW800 MDDs can only use the Airport 802.11b card, not the Airport Extreme 802.11g card that FW800 boards use.
The installation of the 1.42 processors on the earlier DP 1.0 GHz machine actually made life easier, as the later 1.0 GHz machine had a slower logic board bus and required resistor moves.....

Actually scripts run fine with excel file, currently we are using user-id to pick to update AD. Now we want to update AD use employee id. You can say to identify the record in AD through employee ID instead of user-id.
I do not think you will get anyone here to fix that for you.  You need to find someone who knows PowerShell to help you or learn PowerShell your self.
I would fix it for you but not for free.  It is too oddly designed and has too many dependencies.  Any small change is likely to break it.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How do I add simple text to a photo? For example, if I took a photo of a chalk board and wanted to add a date via Lightroom making it look like it was written on the chalk board, how would I do that?

I simply need to know how to do this. Everything online talks about doing this as a watermark feature or during Export only. I need to know how to do this during the Develop stage, if it's possible.
I took a photo of a couple for a pregnancy announcement shoot. We added a chalk board that had the date the birth is to take place written on it, but it didn't show as well when I reviewed the first couple pics. So I erased the chalk board thinking that I could just add the date via Lightroom, but I have been unable to figure it out. Any help would be very much appreciated.

To create a graphic watermark or identity plate for this purpose with a hand written chalk look you would need Photoshop or Elements to create a transparent PNG file so you might as well do the whole thing in one of those programs to start with.  You can't do this in the develop stage anyway like you requested.

  • How to set on-board graphics memory of my macbook?

I've installed Arch Linux in my macbook pro (2011 early 13inch).
I've upgraded RAM from 4G to 8G, and in OS X, this doubled graphics memory from 256MB to 512MB automatically.
However, in Arch Linux, the graphics memory is recognized only as 256MB which is original value before memory upgrading.
I wonder if I can adjust GRAM to expand it.

Hum, interesting. I have Intel HD4000 and 16GB of ram. I should have quite a lot of video ram, like 1GB.
It is very, very possible that we do have more video ram but what we are looking at is not telling us what we think it is. I was fairly sure that Intel Graphics did all it's video ram scaling stuff on it's own.

  • GFX Card) Intel(r) 82815 Graphics Controller

when i play counter strike or other games my fps drops i have tryed every thing even down to reformating
i think i got a onboard gfx card but when i look in bios i theres no option to disable it  (GFX Card) Intel(r) 82815 Graphics Controller.

If you are using the integrated VGA of an i815 chipset it's really not worth anything.
Have a look in the device manager what display adapter is installed.
If the integrated VGA is in use it will be disabled the moment you install an AGP card, there isn't a manual disable option.

  • ATI Catalyst /displays/properties/graphics controller

First, I have successfully installed my ATI video card and have downloaded all of the needed updated drivers.
However, I am receiving the following warning message: The ATI Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the
driver version of my enabled graphics adapter the ( Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV) graphics controller. It goes on to say please update your ATI graphics driver. Or enable your ATI using the displays manager which, is located in the "ATI Catalyst Control Center".
I've gone to the ATI Catalyst Control Center. There I find basic and advanced settings. I tried using the basic step by
step easy set up wizard, and quick settings. I could not get past step one on either one. This wizard told me it was to convert a video file to a differn't video format. My question is would converting a video file to a differn't video format fix the driver version and graphics adapter? Or do I maybe need to install a differn't graphics adapter/controller?

Please stay with your other post.

If that's what you're using and it actually works, albeit slowly, I'd suggest taking The hatter's advice and go with the 6 core Mac Pro with  24GB of RAM and the 5870 video card. The RAM could come from here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1333-memory

  • Does a 12" PowerBook have a PRAM battery on the logic board?

We got an 867MHz 12" Aluminum PowerBook in today that doesn't seem to want to hold PRAM values any longer than 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to matter if it's plugged in and using the AC adapter as the source or the battery (as long as it's charged, of course ).
I've gone through the typical battery of tests, like removing the Airport, add-on RAM, etc. but the problems persist. To get the item to boot, I've been repeatedly resetting the PMU (shift-option-command + power button) followed by a PRAM reset (option-command-P-R + power button) and eventually it will chime and start to boot. I suspect that I can end up isolating this to a specific set of steps. One of the oddities I've noticed is that when doing this, the power isn't actually off. For example, if I do the PRAM reset, the item will appear to be dead, but if I hit the caps lock key it's clear that the power is still on.
Once the item boots, I can power it on and off, and it will reboot, as long as I don't let it sit any more than 5 minutes. If I let it sit 5 minutes or more, then I need to go through this whole reset game again.
I've seen stuff like this happen on PCs that often have ROM/PROM batteries installed (sometimes removable, sometimes soldered to the board) that retain system settings. There seems to be something that looks like one of these batteries installed on this motherboard, but none of Apple's tech repair manuals reference replacing it, and it almost looks like its welded to a connector, but then again I'm not sure it's even a battery.
So the question is: Does this motherboard have a PRAM battery on it that's failing? If there is one, is there a replacement or replacement kit available, or am I barking up the wrong tree all together?
    Thanks in advance.

From what I can tell, this device uses a "mega capacitor" to maintain the charge on the memory. It looks almost like a battery that I put into one of my old cameras. This capacitor sits between the trackpad and the optical drive. The owner of this system did a DVD upgrade himself and it appears in the process he actually knocked this capacitor off it's base on the mother board. It superficially APPEARS to be connected because there's a bar on the top end of the capacitor soldered to the motherboard that's holding it in place, but the bottom end broke off the motherboard.
The boss of our company theorizes as follows:
    1. The PRAM and NVRAM has a high impedance, and when the mega capacitor is properly connected and without power, the discharge rate based on the RC time constant is very long (probably weeks...maybe months).
    2. When power is turned off it's the duty of this effective RC network to maintain PRAM and NVRAM since the discharge rate is so slow.
    3. With this capacitor busted off, the only capacitance that exists in the circuit is likely that of RF bypass capacitors and any other capacitors that may be used to filter out the supply. Since these are likely much, much lower in value the RC time constant becomes minutes instead of days/weeks/months.
I think this is a good theory for the following reasons:
    1. If the unit sits, powered off, for any amount of time greater than 3-4 minutes and it's powered up, the unit comes on, but the CPU doesn't start processing. The optical media initializes, the caps lock key will light, and if you listen closely to the unit you can hear stuff running....but the CPU doesn't start. The conjecture is that the all PRAM/NVRAM parameters have been lost and when the CPU starts it sees nothing there and hence, does nothing. The unit is actually running, it just doesn't do anything.
    2. If the unit sits, powered off, for any amount of time greater than 3-4 minutes, the following process will allow it to start up:
    a. Turn the power on and leave it on for about 2-3 minutes. This is the dysfunctional state identified above, but what seems to be happening is that the effective RC network is being charged.
    b. After several minutes, turn the unit off and then immediately turn it on.
    c. The unit boots successfully.
    d. We can turn the unit off, and turn it on again, and it will successfully boot as long as we do it relatively quickly (within a minute or two), but if it's left off more than that then the "game" identified in steps a-c must be repeated.
To me this implies the unit relies completely on the "mega-capacitor" to retain voltage on the PRAM/NVRAM. It sort of makes sense because the equivalent impedance of a battery is low compared to that of the RAM chips and it would have the effect of limiting the RC time constant needed for the unit to retain it's PRAM/NVRAM parameters for a very long period of time. That isn't to say the battery isn't supplying anything to the unit when power is off...it may very well be, but I suspect it simply isn't doing it to this circuit.
    Does this theory make sense?

  • Lenovo G510, the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Radeon 8750M, will not work!

    Good evening,
    I have a Lenovo G510, 59401564, i7 with Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Radeon 8750M graphics card.
I have problems with graphics cards to get it to work permanently!
The installation of the graphics card driver works fine but after about 30 minutes an hour, crashes the laptop and a bright blue screen is shown "VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR".
After a restart, the Graffikarten are disabled, a small window says that the driver must be reinstalled.
I have the Windows 8.1 64-bit, drivers from the Lenovo website uses. To reinstall, I used Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_R3.01.exe.
I've been trying to determine two days why.
I really need help, I think more users have the same problem.
I am grateful for any help!

    hi angefragt,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Did you just got the unit or You got it some time around?
If you were able to use the comuter before you might need to push a system restore to a date when the crashes did not appear. Adn start a Windows Update.
According to this, It may be a conflict, Driver or OS issue,
