Identifying tracks

Hi there,
is there a program out there that will take unnamed audio files and find the song and then title the song in the mp3 id and also change the file name?
Clues please?
Cheers

Hi Noah,
Select a track or tracks then from the iTunes menu bar click Store/Get Track Names.
From the iTunes help viewer...
"If more than one entry is found for the CD (which can occur if more than one person submitted information for the same CD to the Gracenote service), select one of the entries. If it isn’t correct, choose Advanced > Get CD Track Names again and choose the other entry. If it’s still not correct, you can edit the information yourself.
If iTunes can’t connect to the Gracenote service or if it has no information about the CD, you can enter your own song information into iTunes. You can also submit the information to Gracenote so that other people can use the information."

  • Smartplay list or way to identify tracks without artowrk?

    Hi Folks,
First of all I'm that really geeky type of person that likes to keep things organized and I have artwork on alot of my tunes... however, I know that within my collection of 5000+ songs I have copied out of my cd library onto my pc do not have the artwork on all the files...
Does anyone know of a way to build a smart playlist or other sort to identify which tracks do not have a artwork associated with them, or have more than 1 artwork included?
I was thinking I could do, create, new smart play list, where artwork .... but thats where it ends, there is no artwork option....
Maybe someone also knows of a 3rd party utility which might do this??? Any feedback would help

I got the same idea a while back, and wrote a Perl script to do it. I'd give you an EXE version, but I'm out of space on my comcast web page. Here's the perl version:

If you don't have perl, you're not really a geek! You can download perl here (click the link, then click the "continue" button -- you don't need to enter the information they ask for!):

  • Identifying tracks that are not in the iTunes Music Library

I've got about 12,000 songs in my iTunes Music Library. Suppose I want to remove some of them, say 2,000 of them, and keep the files. The files will then remain on my computer but not show up in iTunes.
Is there a utility that will display tracks that are in the iTunes Music folder but are not in the music library? I am sure I will not be able to keep track of which 2,000 tracks I took out of the library. Which means I could forget forever that I even have the music. I thought I saw a reference to a way to do this but I have not been able to figure it out.
    Thanks.

I would create a new folder and drag these songs from iTunes to this folder then delete them from iTunes and click Yes when it asks to delete from library and delete form hard drive.Delete

  • Using iTunes Grouping field to identify tracks on iPod Touch

I have a fourth generation iPod Touch and a Mac. I have transferred several albums of Classical music onto iTunes on my iMac. Following a suggestion, I labelled each track for a single piece of music in the following way.
Every track reflected a movement or section of a piece. Therefore, all tracks were labeled with the name of the piece, for example. "Symphony No. 5 in C minor" in the GROUPING field.
Every track for a piece is pretty obviously by the same composer, thus, a composer's name, like, "Ludwig Van Beethoven" was given for every track that made up the piece.
Each track in the piece reflected a different movement, thus the first TRACK TITLE field would read "Movement 1: Allegro Con Brio".
In iTunes on the Mac this works fine. When Looking up classical pieces, I simply make sure that GROUPING, COMPOSER and Artist fields are showing.
Here's the problem, when I transfer the music to iTunes, the GROUPING field seems to go away. I have a whole slew of classical movements detached from any description of the piece from which they are a part. Am I missing something? or do I have to go into each track record and create enough redundancy so that track name alone will describe both the piece and the movement.?

I'm just trying to help and if you really want to buy that app that is your choice; however, I read the description and all of that is able to be done with the iPod's music app as I have described. I even went through and did it myself. You can create, edit and delete playlists. While adding music you can select individual songs within an album from as many albums you want. You can then shuffle those songs or if you want them to play in a specific order you can edit the order and move songs up or down on the list. All of this can be done, as well as the other playing/listens habits you might have all with one app that is compatible to play in the background while you check email or do other tasks. There is no need to purchase an additional app that you have to leave open for it to play how you want.

    Hi,
For some reason one of my tracks has lost all sound. No i havent muted it, or soloed another track. Im sure Im missing something obvious.
    Any clues?
I have done some extensive volume automation, and all was fine until I opened the project today and nothing! Only on one track.
    Rob

It's possible you might have accidentally muted a region in the track--I did that just the other day and found the answer finally. Try right clicking anywhere on the region and you'll see a mute off/on option.
Here's the info from the manual:
    Muting Regions
Often, when arranging, you’ll want to test musical ideas by muting certain regions.
To mute or unmute individual or selected regions
    Muted regions have three characteristics:
A dot precedes the region name.
The audio or MIDI data section is displayed in gray.
The region is framed in the region color (making it easier to identify tracks or regions associated with muted regions).

  • Can't locate songs after moving iTunes folder

After years of having all of my iTunes music on an external drive, I upgraded the Macbook's HD and decided to move the songs back. After doing so and pointing iTunes to the new location, it still asks me to click and find each file (which would take forever with 100GB of music).
-The ITL file and everything else has been on the Mac HD in Users/Music/iTunes with only the music on the external drive in a folder called "iTunes". All I did was cut and paste every file from the external folder into Users/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic which was previously empty. I changed the location, it did its updating, but nothing is being located. Everything is the same as before.
-Every time I locate a song it creates a new folder called music and puts the identified tracks in there.
-Is there a script I can use to locate all of the songs since they're all right in that folder? The only thing that has changed is that they moved. For some reason iTunes isn't playing them even though I changed the location under preferences.

  • LP to iTunes and CD

I would like to convert about 50 old LP albums to digital music and then to iTunes and out to my iPod. My audio equipment is old and I would like to do this as a one-time project. My research says I need a turntbale, a phono pre-amp, and then some way to get the music into my G5. Can anyone recommend equipment and software to do this? I would like to burn CDs to preserve this old music and then import selected tracks to iTunes. I would need a way to identify tracks for iTunes use. The G5 has a built in sound card so I don't think I need another one unless the built in solution is inadquate.
Thanks, in advance, for your advice.

G5 Dual 2Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   TAS 3004 built in sound card

I am in the process of converting all of my oldies vinyl into my MAC G4. (120 down and about 800 to go!) Things in theory which SHOULD work logically have not and I have had to work around these problems. I will post them in case you end up in the same tight corner I did.
I had an older stereo. I had to purchase a turntable with a pre-amp in it. The turntable had to connect through the AUX component in the stereo. I ran the cable from the output in the amplifier into the MAC, set the systems prefs for LINE IN on the input and started to record them in Audacity by Luxuriousity ($19 and it takes out the hiss, lets you remove the pops, equalizes, and AMPLIFIES the tracks all in the same program, then you can export as an aiff file which iTUNES can read and if you want to convert it from there, go ahead and be happy.)
The computer couldn't pick up the sound. Had to do with the turn table being in the AUX jack. But there was no place else to put it. I had to record them on to a high quality cassette and then load the songs into the MAC.
Songs recorded on a 45 are louder than a LP. Amplifier in the stereo or not, most of these tracks recorded at a whisper. I had to amplify all of them in the Audacity program. Even though iTUNES will boost a weak track in the computer, a soft sounding song will come out much like it was recorded when put into an average MP3 player.
Hope this will save you some greif. If you have not expirenced any of these problems, I envy you, for this has been some undertaking the way I have been forced to do it. But the songs I have aren't available anywhere, some were local hits and never charted nationally, so to me it's worth it.
    Good luck.

  • Running 2 scripts using the browser simultaneously

    I was wondering,
Is there a way to run two different AppleScripts using Safari at the same time, so that e.g. one would operate in one tab and the other in a different tab? How do I go about that? How do I avoid conflicts? (I should add that my knowledge of applescripting is rather limmited, so more information is better than less )
Also, both scripts would be using the curl command and shell script to download or save files, etc. What would happen, if both scripts tired to call the curl command at the same time? Would that cause a conflict, or would the scripts just be put in a queue?
    Any ideas?

but how do I know which document is which? Is there any way  to tell safari to set the index of a document?
There are numerous ways of identifying/tracking objects within AppleScript - and that's generally true for any object in any app.
In this case 'index' is really front-to-back order, so 'document 1' (or 'window 1') is the frontmost, and therefore the inverse of how you created the documents in the first place. Of course that gets messy as you open new windows, move them around, etc.
You can change the index of the windows, though, which changes their relative order:
    tell application "Safari"
set index of window 2 to 1
    end tell
There are other ways, though. For example, each window has an associated ID, which is persistent, therefore you could store the ID of each newly-created window and use that as your target:
    tell application "Safari"
              make new document with properties {URL:"http://www.apple.com/"}
set appleID to id of window 1 -- store the window ID
-- later on you can reference that same ID:
      delay 5
set s to source of document of window id appleID
    end tell
Other options include the name of the document, as well as relative options. Each application and object class has its own terms, so you'll need to explore the dictionary to determine what's appropriate for any given task.

  • Large and Complex Applicaton development process in Apex

    Hi,
Apex can scale well in terms of Data size, number of users etc. We are trying to decide if Apex is suitable for our next large and complex application (Large and complex in terms of quantity and efforts of work and business logic). We have already identified that Apex can handle complexity of our transaction/business logic management. My question is about scaling application development process in Apex. I am curious to know about what other people are doing with Apex in terms of:
    * What is the largest Number of Pages, Forms, Reports etc. within a single application one has developed
    * Assuming with so many pages (objects) to be developed, more than one developers must have worked on the project and the project is divided into multiple phases release. What was/is the max number of developers in your project?
    * Did you run into "Code Conflct" issues for Apex Shared Objects when multiple people had to work on them? How did you manage it and merge the changes?
    * How did you identify, track and manage changes in Apex objects between various project phases and between various environments (DEV, TEST, UAT, PROD).
    * What else you would like to add (in terms of development life cycle only) to my thoughts above that we need to consider while choosing Apex for our next project.
    * Based on your experience would you recommend Apex for our large and complex application?
Many thanks in advance for your responses.
Paresh (yparesh at gmail dot com)

    Hi Przemek, Jerry and Roel,
Thanks to all of you for your helpful responses. If we follow best practices mentioned like trying to centralize code in Page 0, db packages/procedures, JS libs shared components (especially "Shared App" having Shared components between multiple apps) we can minimize code management efforts and use existing technologies to identify, merge, promote code changes. This still leaves with some code and changes that will localized to individual pages (and we still need to manage page 0 and Shared object code changes. I will explain what I am trying to say with an example below about managing changes in a page.
    Przemek, and Jerry,
How are you identifying, managing and promoting changes between applications environments say TEST to PROD. For example we have 2 separate dbs (and hence workspaces) to host Apex TEST and Apex PROD environment. If I have modified page 15 in TEST and now need to promote changes made to page 15 (deltas) to PROD how do I compare and identify the deltas? Apex can not migrate the whole page across apps in different workspaces and even if Apex can I don't think it is a good idea to overwrite page 15 in PROD with page 15 in TEST unless we can compare them, identify the deltas and make sure the changes are what we intended to promote. Exporting pages and comparing using a text editor is time consuming because of various ids and the way New Line characters can get embedded in page export. Logic that the TEST env should have identical copy of prod due to a refresh before promoting changes from DEV won't help because then whole of above will apply between DEV and TEST (albeit with little less risk as the target is TEST and hopefully any unintended changes will be caught during testing).
Apex 3.1 has Apex Applications Compare facility? If you have used it, what is your take on it? I think it is too basic but a good start. Won't it be good if there was a nice full fledged compare tool for Apex objects?
    Thanks
    Paresh

  • 10.4 Smart Playlist Live Update Issue

    Hi All,
Among the other challenges presented by the 10.4 series of updates (greyed out commands, disabled shortcuts that come and go for no apparent reason) the smart playlist live update function seems to be broken. I do a lot of tagging and use smart playlists to identify tracks that need particular tags. I used to be able to highlight them all, run a script and they'd all get tagged and clear out. Now it breaks down after a couple and grinds to a halt. Works fine if you turn live update off, run the script then turn it back on, but that kind of defeats the purpose right?
On the smart playlist thread, I've also encountered an issue where I can no longer edit a smart playlist: command-I doesn't work and "edit smart playlist" is greyed out in the "file" menu.
Anybody else know what the deal is, or is it just part of iTunes becoming less of a music player because it's "more than a music player?"

Thanks Leonie - issue with editing smart playlists isn't that I don't know how to do it, it's that it periodically isn't an option (i.e. command-I or file menu drop-down are greyed out & doesn't matter what or where you click). I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Not sure how to tell what command is getting stuck, but it's definitely the interaction between the script and the live update feature because it works perfectly when live update is off (and the script is fairly simple - see below).
Thing is that it's not the smart playlists themselves that aren't working, they are all fine, issue is limited to the live update feature. I use SPs to tag particular things (ie dragging to a playlist causes it to show up in the smart playlist if it's not tagged - so I go to smart playlist & run the script to tag all of them in a batch and once they've got the tag they should disappear from the SP). Here's the script, though, slightly modified for me by the author - it's actually pretty ******* if you want to steal it. He wrote one for removing tags too (all using the grouping section):
    property okflag : false
-- check if iTunes is running

  • ITunes 11.1.5 - Playing albums one after another

    Hey Apple Peeps,
Never done this support forum thing before, but here goes- and apologies in advance if I do not respond promptly, I'm pretty knackered and about to hit the sack after I post this!
So, I updated iTunes recently and now it seeems that when I'm in album mode, playback stops after the last song of any album.
I want to just keep playback going, not much to ask.
    Any ideas??

I think I just answered my own question: Is it true you can only playback albums continuously (sequentially) in 'songs' mode? That way is working, but it lacks the larger graphic detail that 'album' mode has. I miss the cover flow feature Apple have ditched - great for identifying tracks without squinting - particularly on shuffle.
Talking of which, I seem to have deduced that you can start shuffle in song mode and the window jumps to each new track, but if you switch to album mode, though the songs still shuffle, you have to command-L each time to view what is 'now playing'. Anyone know if you can make the window update for each song selection in album mode when using shuffle?

  • Two Accounts, one iMac, one iTunes Library

I'm sure this should be easy, but it's beating me !
I've recently bought a new iMac and am giving my old iMac G4 to my son. I've now set up two accounts on the old system, the orginal one for me as an administrator, and a new one for him. However, the iTunes and iPhoto libraries are still under my account.
I simply want to allow iTunes and iPhoto on his account to see the same libraries.
When in his account, I've tried changing the music folder location in preferences to look at HD/users/myaccount, but everything has a red minus symbol next to it, so is unaccessible.
I've tried clicking on all the shared options I can, but to no avail.
    What am I missing ?
    Thanks

Is there a way to do this without having to add the songs multiple times anytime someone changes their library?
Sorry but no, not really. iTunes has no "folder watching" feature; you have to manually add tracks that get added directly to a folder. You might take a look through Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes; there might be a script there that would make the process easier, if only by identifying tracks that are in the folder but not in your iTunes listing.
