Identity crisis

I'm using Acrobat Pro 8 in Mac Snow Leopard, but after a recent reinstall I'm unable to change the identity that shows up in comments. I have unchecked "Always show login name as author name" and the proper name shows up in the identity box under preferences. Any suggestions?

See http://acrobatninja.com/2012/11/comment-identity-in-acrobat.html for instructions.

  • Bt - yahoo identity crisis ... help!

    This might seem obvious to those in the know but I have an email identity crisis - am I BT, am I Yahoo, or am I both?
    I  signed up with BT Broadband a few years ago and have an email address  [email protected]
    If I want to access my emails via a web address I go to yahoo uk (why yahoo, why not BT?)
    I set up something called a disposable email address ( addressguard) and it forced me into the format [email protected]  (why yahoo.co.uk and not btinternet.com like my main email address?)
    I had a query about setting up this disposable address as an account in outlook so I emailed the yahoo uk help team (as it's a yahoo.co.uk arress) , but had a reply that as I am BT I must go to something called BT-yahoo for support.
    Confused? Yes I am. Can anyone explain????

    BTs email services are provided by Yahoo!  You can log in at any of the Yahoo! websites around the world (yahoo.co.uk, yahoo.es, yahoo.fr etc) using your BTInternet credentials, and you'll end up at the same place,
    You can even login at btinternet.com if you wish !

    That's just the way it is, I'm afraid. Disposable addresses are of the form [email protected]
    If you want another @btinternet.com address it'll have to be one associated with a sub account. They can be disposable too - just delete it when you're finished with it, and create another. The only drawback with using sub accounts is that the number of simultaneously active accounts is limited, whereas you can have up to 500 disposable @yahoo.co.uk addresses.

    Personally, I think you're better off posting queries here...

  • Safari 5.1.2 having identity crisis?

    Hello all,
    I have been using Safari 5.1.2 since its release. This afternoon I ran into a bizarre issue which I simply cannot resolve.
    Here is what happened:
    Roughly ten hours ago I launched Safari to check my university email. In order to do so, I opened the preferences pane and enabled Java Script. Upon finishing, I disabled JavaScript, cleared out cookies & flash cookies, reset Safari, and closed it. (I do this every time I use Safari, without incident). When I was in the preferences pane, all was in order: my extensions were in place & working, ditto Safari Cookies, etc. Business as usual.
    Approximately five hours thereafter I launched Safari to search for an article on the web. After completing my search, I opened the preferences pane only to discover that my extensions were disabled, and "Safari Cookies" was gone. Under the "extensions" tab I selected "get extensions", and was duly informed that in order to use Safari extensions I must update to Safari 5. Checking "About Safari" showed that I was running 5.1.2.
    Over the past few hours I cleared my history and cache & restarted Safari. The issue remained. I then reset Safari. That did not work either. Subsequently I restarted my MacBook; uninstalled Safari Cookies (since it was disabled anyway); manually removed caches, pref files, logs, localizations, binaries, etc. (just to be thorough); and ran Onyx. I then restarted…
    Nope. My extensions remain disabled, I cannot reinstall Safari Cookies, and Safari 5.1.2 continues to insist that I update to Safari 5.
    Short of uninstalling Safari itself, cleaning everything out again, and reinstalling Safari, I am at a loss as to how to address this issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hmm… Some of the following is off-topic; nonetheless…
    Two years ago I downloaded ElmediaPlayer, & then uninstalled it the same day. Be that as it may, I've been endlessly deleting pieces of it ever since. A similar state of affairs prevails for Skype, VMWare Fusion, DjVu, PangeaVR, Real Player, Intego backup assistant, & GoogleTalk browser plugin.
    More on-topic, I honestly believed that I had managed to rid myself off all the odds & ends of SIMBL this afternoon; apparently not. Interesting, albeit not surprising.
    Any thoughts/suggestions?

  • Ipod with Identity Crisis

    I have a 60gb ipod with colour display, which I think is fourth gen. Recently i had problems with it. It was getting stuck on the apple icon at start up. I would turn it on, and then it would stay on the apple icon no matter what i did. I had to drain the battery to get it going again. this happened a few times, and each time i restored it after drainage. I could hear the hd spinning when it was stuck on the icon. Eventually i restored it and it hasnt stuck since.
    But since then whenever the ipod shows in itunes, or in windows, or even in the about section in settings on the actual ipod it says it only has 16gb worth of capacity!!! Can anybody help me with this problem? The ipod is working fine otherwise, its just now I only have a quarter of the capacity i had before. I have already tried renaming the drive.
    Thanks for your help

    If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
    Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
    Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
    The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
    If the device manager is empty, see this: iPod not appearing in Windows device manager.

  • My phone has a identity crisis wanting to have two numbers

    Hi, I switched from Orange to EE a few weeks ago andy phrased my phone. it took a little while for my phone number to come across to my new phone ( both iPhones) now it seems for some reason my phone has, for network calls kept my old number but when using wifi for texts, face time etc reverted back to its factory/EE allocated number. Causing much comdey. Interestingly I turned on my old phone and via wifi, as it has no network now. It seems to have taken my old number back as its own. How do I get it fully across to my new phone on all forms, styles of communication. If you can get it to work on carrier legion and smoke signals too you might get a gold star,
    Many thanks.
    Andy

    Hi ,
    Welcome to the community.
    To get this sorted, use the below steps:
    Go to Settings > Phone > My Number.
    Replace the temporary number you find there with your own number - use +44 instead of the first 0.
    Then tap Save.
    To Reset the iMessage settings please do the below:
    Your iMessage settings won't reset themselves during porting - the temporary number will still be in your new iPhone.
    To input your old number into your new iPhone:
    Go to Settings
    Tap on Messages
    Tap iMessage ON
    Scroll down to Send & Receive number
    Replace the temporary number with your old number
    Then tap Save.
    This should stop this for you.
    Thanks.

  • My ipod is having an identity crisis

    The other day, I hooked my ipod to a friend's computer, and it recognized it as being his, not mine. Now it says that I have all of his music on the actual ipod itself, but can't play anything, because I don't. I am puzzled entirely as to fix this issue. I have a 2 gig nano, and he has a 30 gig video. Any help?

    Well first off you want to make sure your ipod is enabled for manual management before you hook it up to any other computer. As far as it saying it has the music without it actually being there im puzzled, sorry to say but your probably going to have to restore, but if all of your music is in your itunes its no biggie, just wipe it and resync and you'll be back to normal.

  • Ipod with an identity crisis

    fellow podders
    I hope you can help I have a 2nd generation 15gb ipod which has decided to become a 5gb mini ipod!!
    Basically my ipod will fill to 5gb then come up with an error. I am not very technically minded but have been through all the usual routes, restoring, updating etc
    Has anyone encountered this problem before and solved it? thanks in advance!

    Have you tried forcing it into disk mode and restoring it? (Reset it and hold down forward and rewind)
    Does your iPod have the touch wheel with 4 buttons above it?

  • HT5625 Identity Crisis

    I recently switched jobs and needed to change my apple ID, since it was linked to my former employer's email server. Now, iCloud won't recognize my old iCloud username, but is also hasn't linked to my new one. I can't access the data saved on the Cloud because it keeps asking me for my old ID and password, which are no longer recognized. Still, I'm getting pop-ups requesting that I enter my old username and PW on my phone and Mac. Although the new username and PW are working, the won't give me access to my pics. What should I do?

    You have to sign out completely on each device then sign back in again with the new ID.

  • Does my macbook have an identity crisis?

    I have a Macbook that I copied my previous laptop's contents & settings upon shortly after setting it up.
    I tried setting up iChat and was confronting some problems with being able to connect with my buddies. I went into my Accounts and tried fooling around with parental controls. I also attempted to change administrator accounts. Now here's the kicker: it only made things so so so much worse. Now all of my buddies are blocked. I've tried switching back and nothing has changed. Also, it has blocked everyone on AIM as well.
    Can ayone please give me some insight on how to undo this mess I have made or at least what I have done?
    much obliged
    Sarah
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Sarah:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
    First, I would run repair disk from yoru software install DVD. Then....
    At this point, I would suggest you try an archive and install
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    A&I will install a fresh copy of OS X and preserve your files, programs, and settings. Read the knowledge base article carefully. Although it would have helped, backing up your current situation will probably not be useful. A&I creates a rather large file (which may be deleted after you feel everything is working well) called "previous system."
    In answer to your question, it would be a wild guess to determine what happened.
    Good luck.
    Barry
    P.S. As a future suggestion, it is good practice to have a good backup/retreat strategy. I make bootable clones of my iMacs on an external firewire drive using a little program called SuperDuper ($28 at www.shirt-pocket.com). In that way, you are ALMOST completely protected against hardware or software problems.

  • MS SQL Server 2014: Error inserting into Temp table with index and identity field

    In this thread, I mentioned a problem with SQL Server 2014:
    SQL Server 2014: Bug with IDENTITY INSERT ON
    The question was answered, it is a bug. To keep you informed on this issue, I open this discussion.
    Problem:
    The code below works perfectly fine on MS SQL Server 2008 R2 and MS SQL Server 2012, but gives an error every second time the proc is executed on MS SQL Server 2014. If I do not define any index on the temp table, the problem disappears. Defining the index
    after the insert, does not help.
    SET NOCOUNT ON
    GO
    IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM sys.procedures WHERE name = 'usp_Test') DROP PROC dbo.usp_Test;
    GO
    CREATE PROC dbo.usp_Test AS
    BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON
    CREATE TABLE #Source(ID integer NOT NULL);
    INSERT INTO #Source VALUES (1), (2), (3);
    CREATE TABLE #Dest (ID integer IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL);
    CREATE INDEX #IDX_Dest ON #Dest (ID);
    PRINT 'Check if the insert might cause an identity crisis';
    SELECT 'Source' AS SourceTable, * FROM #Source;
    SELECT 'Destination' AS DestTable, * FROM #Dest;
    SET IDENTITY_INSERT #Dest ON;
    PRINT 'Do the insert';
    INSERT INTO #Dest (ID) SELECT ID FROM #Source;
    PRINT 'Insert ready';
    SET IDENTITY_INSERT #Dest OFF;
    SELECT * FROM #Dest;
    DROP TABLE #Source;
    DROP TABLE #Dest;
    END;
    GO
    PRINT 'First execution of the proc, everything OK';
    EXEC dbo.usp_Test;
    PRINT '';
    PRINT 'Second execution of the proc, the insert fails.';
    PRINT 'Removing the index #IDX_Dest causes the error to disappear.';
    EXEC dbo.usp_Test;

    I remember few issues with scan2ident function, I am not sure if they have fixed it however it appears that this is intoduced to SQL 2014 and we need help from MS to get this resolved as it needs code analysis.
    It is not getting simulated for other versions of SQL apart from SQL 2014.
    Also to add, interestingly, the value of rax is not visibly changed and it was successfully passed on to rcx, which has a valid value, so something should have changed the value of rax inside call to function using call qword ptr [r10+50h], and looking at this
    it appears that it might be a list of functions and we are going at particular offset [50h]. So, bottom line is that the call to function qword ptr [r10+50h], should be changing something in rax, and debugging/analyzing this code might give us some more idea.

  • Unable to contact support

    My account was locked. I filled out Skypes form to unlock my account, and it in turn directed me to another form to fill out (which I did). Both of which were COMPLETELY OVERBOARD: "when did you create your account, top 5 contacts (I really only use skype to make phone calls), bank account information, etc". I logged on a different account to talk to customer service, who told me a different department whom I could not talk to handled this. So, I waited. After a week, I tried the form again, and was once again directed to the second form. After 10 days, they allowed me to reset my password. I finally log on and my account is STILL SUSPENDED and they want me to fill out the stupid from AGAIN!!! Skype is more secure than my online banking and I mean that in the worse way possible!!!
    I've worked in information security and the first rule is a determined attacker with unlimited resources is unstoppable, so, you have to limit what they can get... THIS IS SKYPE NOT FORT KNOX!!!

    I'd of thought this would garnish at least a little attention within 24hours. Seems to give reason as to why Apple has been steadily beating Microsoft. Since Gates left Microsoft has an identity crisis thinking they are IBM or Texas Instruments, and that customers don't matter. Microsoft gouges businesses to a point where they all wanna move to Linux/ Unix based OS and has poor customer service for individuals (like me). I've used Microsoft since DOS started, fixing Microsoft computers for money since I was 8 and this incident, is topping on the cake. I told my wife after my PCs die, I'm done with Microsoft forever!

  • The design of this website is confusing and hard to use.

    Adobe are regarded as the industry standard of design software, so it seems ironic (or embarrassing) that this website is so poorly designed. I came here simply wanting to post a question about Flash Player but found it the whole experience to be confusing, bewildering and frustrating.
    I will list my ten major criticisms below:
    1. ILLEGIBLE FONTS
    Many of the site's styles (eg discussion titles) use horribly small fonts, to the point of being illegible and nauseating at normal viewing distance. I have to lean forwards towards the screen to read it. I have never had this issue with any other site I visit. The font used is not a screen font and is simply not suitable for being displayed at that size and looks quite ugly (eg lower case 'e' has no hole). In addition, some of the styles use almost illegible colors (eg gray on lighter gray). This kind of "minuscule" typography might be perfect for a small space (eg application control panels), but for a website displayed on a modern computer monitor (at least 1920 pixels wide) it is totally inappropriate. And my monitor is large, I dread to think how small the text would look on a small screen.
    2. UNCOMFORTABLE LAYOUT
    The layout spans the whole width of the screen, making it very uncomfortable to use the site. All the important elements are aligned either to the left or the right of the screen, with a vast gap in the middle, meaning that one has to constantly dart one's eyes (or neck) back and forth, which is made even worse by the small font size which requires a person to "move in" towards the screen.
    3. LACK OF PAGE TITLES
    To add to the sense of disorientation, many of the key pages don't have a title, so you simply do not know where you are or what you are looking at. For example if you go to the main list of all the communities (forums.adobe.com/places), there is no title; nothing to tell you what you are looking at. Likewise, if you do a search, there is no title (eg "Search results"). Having titles at the top of pages is fundamental to web design so people don't get confused about where they are.
    4. THE "FORUMS" DON'T LOOK LIKE FORUMS
    I was brought to the "Using Flash Player" page by an external link, and when I arrived I was just totally confused about where I was and what I was looking at. The page title "Using Flash Player" didn't tell me I was in a discussion community. The page is littered with so many different links and features it is hard to know where to look and what the purpose of the page is. The page does not have a sense of being a discussion forum. I expect a discussion forum to have the word "discussion" somewhere at the top, with a list of threads and information such as last post, replies, views, as well as a way to see how many threads there are in that forum and a way to navigate between pages and see older threads. Not to mention all the strange buttons which I will mention in my next point…
    5. MYSTERIOUS BUTTONS
    A good website uses terminology and controls that people recognize and understand. But all the buttons on this site are strange. At the top of each discussion forum we have "Overview", "Content", "People", "Sub-communities" and "Follow". I can honestly say I have no idea what any of those mean or do (with the exception of "Sub-communities"). Websites should use clear, unambiguous language so that people know what the controls do and are not clicking on the "unknown". If your site does have unconventional controls that people are not going to be familiar with, you should have tooltip popups which explain, to make it easy for newcomers. I have clicked on those strange buttons but on the whole I have not been able to work out what they do. The "People" button would seem to be a way of finding users/members but surely that is a rare function and it should be at the foot of the page not in a prominent location? Likewise when you do a search, you must choose whether to search for "Content", "People" or "Communities". Most people will have no idea what the first two of these options mean, I certainly don't. It's just a very weird site.
    6. INCONSISTENT LAYOUT
    Another confusing thing is that there seem to be as many page layouts as there are pages! Every different page I have been to has no common elements or common menus, everything changes. Even different community pages have different features and different layouts. This leaves you feeling totally disoriented. A website's basic controls and menus should not keep shifting around, it leaves the user with no sense of continuity; it cripples their understanding of how the site functions; and it prohibits them from distinguishing between a page's controls and its content, since both keep changing around.
    7. BUGGY
    I am less critical of bugs because I know that inevitably they happen, and likewise will inevitably be resolved. But in my brief time using the forums I came across plenty of bugs, two are on the main welcome page:
    A) First of all, a pop-up box appears which says "Say Something" inviting me to click on the pencil icon. I then click on the pencil icon and another box appears with options. However, the "Say Something" box is still there and it obscures the box below it. You can't click on it, so you have to click off both boxes, then the "Say Something" box is active again, then you can click on the small "skip" button, and then finally you can click on the pencil icon again and see what was there all along. Not a serious bug, but clumsy.
    B) Also on the welcome screen there is a link at the top which says "New to the community? Check out our guidelines". I didn't hesitate to click on this because by this point I felt totally lost and confused and wanted all the help I could get. I clicked on that button and it took me to a page called Community Guidelines. I clicked on the first link ("Find answers to questions") which took me to an error page ("Unauthorized. Access to this community or content is restricted. If you think this is a mistake, please contact your administrator or the person who directed you here.
    8. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
    Finally, the terms and conditions upon signing up are unreasonably long, to the point of being prohibitive. If someone is having a problem with their software, they don't want to have to spend hours reading through terms and conditions before they can even get to ask a question. It is completely out of order to force people to read all those terms and conditions, and especially forcing people to re-read the whole thing any time there is an update. It is simply laziness on the part of the admin. They could carefully go through the terms and conditions and identify the key elements which have been changed and provide the user with a neat summary, thus saving thousands of people many hours of reading. When I take out a mortgage on a house, I have terms and conditions to read, and I expect there to be a lot. But when I simply want to sign up to a discussion forum, I do not expect a similar level of terms and conditions. People can go to, say, Yahoo or Google or YouTube and discuss these issues freely without having to read any terms and conditions at all. By putting up all these barriers you are just turning people away.
    9. IDENTITY CRISIS
    Finally (and in conclusion) I would say that the site doesn't seem to know why it exists: whether it is aimed at helping the general public or amusing technology lovers?
    I would have expected a site like this to be aimed at the general public, since it is promoted as a help resource by Adobe, and covers a very wide range of products, meaning that a very large and wide range of people should be expected to visit it.
    However, the site gives the opposite impression. It has what I would call a steep "learning curve", with complex page layouts, full of unconventional controls and features, as well as the emphasis on community. This would all seem to suggest it is more of an exclusive site aimed more at techy people who want to "hang out" here and become regular users. I feel it is excluding laypeople and casual visitors who are simply seeking quick help.
    To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help".
    If you want a good example of a good, clean, elegant design that is easy to use, go to www.google.com you will notice that the controls are simple and easy: the eye is immediately drawn to the central part of the screen where the main controls are and there are only two buttons. Then if you want to see more advanced features you can go to the smaller controls which are tucked away in the top right corner and do not distract anyone.

    Many of your points are totally legitimate.
    This one, however, is not:
    …To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
    The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
    The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down.

  • My LaserWriter Pro 630 thinks it's a LaserJet IIP and prints dirty pages!

    I recently aquired a LaserWriter Pro 630, and have been trying to get it to work. I've been using it with a WinXP Pro SP2 laptop as my PowerMac G4 doesn't have a parallel port and my print server has not arrived yet.
    Basically, the only time it'll print anything is when the push button on the printer interface rail is set to 1 or 3 - which is PCL output. While the printer will print when set to PCL, it's output is... undesirable. When configured in XP as a LaserWriter Pro 630, it simply starts printing out the raw PostScript sent to the printer! interestingly enough, the printer will print on push button setting 4 - it'll print the printer spec sheet, and nothing else. Anything other than 1, 3, 04 4 will result in the printer thinking for a bit then giving an "out of paper light" or having the print job pass on in to oblivion, not giving an error on the printer or computer.
    Now, the LW Pro 630 supports LaserJet IIP emulation... So I manually configured the driver to a LaserJet IIP in XP, set the push button to 3, and it prints! Only problem is, the pages look like they were sent through a bad fax machine.
    I uploaded the scan of the XP Printer Test page here (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lwpro630xp2cq7.jpg). Obviously the printer works, but I'd rather not print reports and whatnot on it when it looks like this.
    For reference, here's the scan of the printer spec sheet that prints when the push button's set to 4 (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lwpro630specsdy0.jpg).
    Does anyone have an idea how I can resolve the LaserWriter's identity crisis and make it print cleanly again? Thanks!

    The LaserWriter Pro 630 is a Postscript level 2 printer with LocalTalk, serial, Ethernet, and parallel interfaces.
    To use it with your Mac, you may need to convert its 14-pin AAUI Ethernet port (marked with <_> Icon) to an RJ45 Ethernet port by adding a used US$5 transceiver.
    It can then be used with the standard Apple LaserWriter driver when you turn on AppleTalk on your Ethernet port. No additional print server is required to use with a Mac.
    The overall smudginess is caused by shipping it with the cartridge in place, with the tape seal removed. The toner has flown all over the inside of the cartridge. You need a new cartridge.
    The LaserWriter test page is trying to explain the settings of the number dial in the center oval of the printout. It lists the ports in order and the settings imposed by each switch setting:
    8 -- for the MiniDIN-8 port, used for LocalTalk
    RS-232 -- for the RS-232 port, probably a DB-25, and shows the serial settings, like 9600, 8 data, etc.
    Ethernet -- for the AAUI Ethernet port, which accepts Postscript level 2 data using "EtherTalk" -- AppleTalk-over-Ethernet
    parallel -- for Centronics parallel, which will likely only provide HP PCL 4+ emulation and not Postscript.

  • Ipod touch being recognized as a Digital Camera by PC

    This is very bizarre.
    I connected my ipod touch to my PC and it gets recognized as a Digital Camera. Windows reads it as, and I kid you not, Apple Ipod Digital Camera. Itunes doesn't recognize the device, but upon connecting my ipod touch to the PC the Cannon EOS photo utility starts up...ready and willing to import my pictures.
    Strange as this is, it gets even more weird...
    For some odd reason now I can not even go on to the apple site. I thought since my itunes isn't up to date to the latest version that maybe the problem so I proceeded to update itunes but now the apple site won't load. It was working fine the day before. I thought maybe the site was down (I have never known the apple site to be down) so I decided to ask a couple of online buddies to visit www.apple.com and they reported as the site loading and operating fine.
    What gives???
    I rechecked the minimum requirements and it states that I need xp service pack 2 and USB 2.0 to operate properly. I don't have sp2 installed on my XP, but my 30gig 5th generation ipod states the same requirements (The ipod touch is my 3rd ipod) and it works absolutely perfect each time on the same PC.
    Why would my ipod touch have an identity crisis and why would it block it's parent site?
    Help anyone? The customer service rep at the Apple store was completely baffled.

    Check your iTunes version - although your 5th gen works with older iTunes versions, at least 7.4 is required for the IPT - older versions will not even recognize it.
    As for the Apple site not working, there have been sporadic reports of that, no known reason, usually resolved in a few hours.
    You could also try updating using Apple Software Update (usually found in Start > All Programs), or from within iTunes (Help menu > Check for Updates).
    Hope this helps...

  • Airport Extreme in Leopard shows up as a Windows Server in Finder sidebar.

    Seriously. I am at a loss here.
    I have an Airport Extreme connected to two USB drives (with a USB hub) that has worked fine for months. Recently (since upgrading to 10.5.1) the AEBS shows up as a PC server AND an AEBS in the sidebar of my Finder under the shared section. Strangely, when I connect to these two airport disks, one will show up as an Airport Disk (with the Airport icon) while the other appears as a shared network drive (with the weird globe icon.)
    I use these two disks pretty frequently, and I am afraid that they may stop working completely if this identity crisis continues. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    I have the same issue periodically... all the AEBS in my WDS network occasionally show up as PC (globe) icons in the shared area of the finder. Oddly, this only seems to happen when one of my 5 networked macs is on. That mac also has two entires in the shared area, the Mac name with the iMac icon and the hyphenated .local computer name with the globe icon.
    I have tracked down the cause, through the process of elimination, as being a shared printer on that iMac. When the printer is used either by the iMac it's hooked to, or by someone on the network the AEBS's suddenly show up in the finder. If I turn off sharing on that computer, they all disappear.
    I am not sure why this happens. Windows sharing is not active on any of the macs. One of the other macs has a shared printer as well, and that one does not make this happen. The printer in question is an HP Photosmart 7150 USB.
