Identity theft - someone is using my stolen laptop to purchase iTunes music

My macbook was stolen from my home August 25th, 2007. Since then I have reported it to local law enforcement... whole lot of good that did. Anywho, looking at my bank statement the other night, I saw that whoever is in posession of my laptop now (surely, not the same person who actually took it) has purchased nearly $250 of music using my saved account information. I have of course contacted my bank and changed my password.
My question is this: the police aren't going to do squat to get laptop back or find out who stole it, so the detective work seems to rest mostly on me. This iTunes thing is the best lead I have. Is there a way I can find out the IP address/location of where this music was purchased from? I'm certain Apple keeps this information - they are a business, after all - but I have found no way of speaking with a representative in person, everything is pointing me towards "web help," which is a pretty terrible approach in my opinion. The only phone number I found forwarded me to an automated message telling me to seek help online. How can I contact Apple, or find this information myself, so I can bring it to the police and get my stolen property back?

I doubt it. THe sheer number of purchases that happen on a day to day basis (no rater a minute by minute basis) would make it impossible to find that out. You are better off canceling your credit card and inform them of the fraudulent purchases so they cannot make any more purchases and you are not held liable for them. If the I doubt that Apple will contact you on this matter since that matter requires legal intervention - if they even bother.
I would more aggressively pursue this with the Police, since they are the best resource they have.
I would doubt the guy who robed you would be purchasing tunes at his own home anyway if it is a laptop. Most likley he is doing it on other places.

    Hi
I have a new powerbook and want to give my girlfriend my old G4 power book, she has a new iphone 5s, and wants to create a new itunes/apple id. When i try to de authorize the G4 and sign in with her new apple ID it says bad password, how can i release the G4 from my cluster of authorized apples and make her the owner so she can download music and more importantly sync her music with her phone, she only has 3 songs on her iphone, and loaded all her CD's into the g4 but cant sync, im no dummy and this shouldnt be hard, but its driving me crazy!!!!!!
thx u so much for your time heeeellppppp.

Perhaps, as we have the same music tastes, for now i should just authorize her phone to my power book just to sync music, not pics, contacts etc? I'd hate to overright her contacts etc lol????

  • HT1918 Someone is using my email account to purchase iTunes stuff.  How do I notify Apple?

It is not charging my iTunes account or my credit card, but I keep getting iTunes Store receipts for this person's purchases.  It has the person's address, but I have no way of contacting this person.  Can Apple contact them and tell her she's not using the correct email address?  I've changed the password on my email address and it's properly protected.

  • How do I use the time capsule to share itunes music between multiple apple devices? Also, is it possible to control the music on one device using another, and how do you set this up?

How do I use the time capsule to share itunes music between multiple apple devices? Also, is it possible to control the music on one device using another, and how do you set this up?

unless i'm missing something, i think you got mixed up, this is easy google for walk throughs
i'm assuming this is the new 3tb tc AC or 'tower' shape, if so, its wifi will run circles around your at&t device
unplug the at&t box for a minute and plug it back in
factory reset your tc - unplug it, hold down reset and keep holding while you plug it back in - only release reset when amber light flashes in 10-20s
connect the tc to your at&t box via eth in the wan port, wait 1 minute, open airport utility look in 'other wifi devices' to setup the tc
create a new wifi network (give it a different name than your at&t one) and put the tc in bridge mode (it may do this automatically for you, but you should double check) under the 'network' tab
login to your at&t router and disable wifi on it
add new clients to the new wifi network, and point your Macs to the time machine for backups

  • Can you use a APPLE gift certificate for iTunes music store?

I know that you can use an iTunes gift card but can you also use an Apple gift card?

There's a difference between an iTunes gift certificate and an iTunes gift card. The Apple Gift Card FAQ specifically says:
"Can I use the Apple Gift Card to purchase an iTunes Music Store Gift Card? What about an iTunes Music Store electronic gift certificate?"
"Apple Gift Cards can be used to purchase an iTunes Music Store Gift Card. However, Apple Gift Cards can't be used to purchase iTunes Music Store electronic gift certificates."

  • Stolen laptop. recover purchased music from itunes?

I have recently had my laptop stolen along with my itunes libary. is there any way I can recover my "purchased" music from the itunes store?  not everything I purchased is on my ipod.

Was your backup copy of your computer stolen as well?
If not, then use it to put everything back.
You can also transfer itunes purchases from an ipod.  File>Transfer Purchases
If you are int the U.S., then you can use the newly released icloud beta.
Open itunes, go to itunes store.  Look under Quick Links.  Click Purchased.

  • HT204053 Can I use one Apple ID to purchase apps and a different one to purchase iTunes music

Can I use one Apple ID to purchase apps and a different Apple ID to purchase music off iTunes on the same computer?

    Short answer, yes.
Long answer, it can make things more complicated, especially if you start adding iOS devices to the mix.

  • Stolen Computer lost all itunes music!!

Somebody please help. My computer was stolen and i lost all my purchased tracks from itunes. I have reinstalled itunes on my new computer and it itunes tells me that i can not download purchased tracks on to my new computer. It says i have to transfer files form my other computer. This is not possible becuase it got stolen????
    Please help.

I'm afraid that's right. the iTunes music store works on a "download once" philosopy. What you should do is de-authorize all computers from the iTunes music store. That will keep the theives from being able to play your purchased music. Then I'd suggest contacting customer service and seeing if they are willing to do something to help you.
    Sorry for your loss.

  • How do i deauthorise a stolen laptop for my itunes libary?

    Hi
I had my laptop stolen at the end of last week which I used for my ipod / itunes. I couldn't live without one for too longso treated myself to a new one at the weekend. I've installed itunes on it and connected my nano / authorised the new computer. How do I deauthorise my old laptop?? Do I need to?
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Becky

You can't deauthorize a PC you don't have, however when you have used up your 5 authorizations, you can deathorize all, but only once a year.
There is an Apple help on authorization here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
It includes an email form if you are worried about the stolen PC, maybe Apple can help.
One thing, if there is any possiblity that there is a record of your password on the stolen PC make sure you change it.

No matter how cleverly designed phishing emails are, the telltale characteristic is the URL displayed when you hover over the live link (some email clients make it a bit more challenging to see the URL, but one can do it). It MAY have 'apple' in it somewhere to give it more credibility, but it should be pretty clear it is not from Apple.com <- ALL apple URLs will have this domain.
Further, it is not recommended that you paste the body of phishing emails here as the nefarious links the phisher wants you to click is now alive in this forum. Not to worry, I will ask our gracious Hosts to edit the link(s) out for posterity.
