Idiot needs help! Setup Home Oracle Linux Server

I'm trying to setup a Linux server using an old PC. I can download Oracle Linux in a zipped file from Oracle. Then, I'm suppose to unzip using an Oracle supplied utility and burn the extracted files to a DVD. My client PC is running Vista Home. I'm a little confused on how I unzip the "Linux" files and burn them to a DVD. I would think this should all be done in a Linux environment/(or on a Linux box) - this is what I'm trying to setup. How do I get the ISO IMG files extracted and burned for a Linux boot cd? If it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about, you're right - I don't.
HELP!

Most PC's come with DVD/CD authoring software installed, like Nero or MagicISO maker, etc. What software do you have available? There is plenty of information available in Google about how to burn an iso image to dvd. Or you could check http://www.wikihow.com/Burn-ISO-Files-to-DVD. Whatever you choose, make sure to burn the raw ISO image and NOT the disk of the "mounted" .ISO image. I would also recommend 7-zip to unzip the downloaded files.
In case you are installing this for educational or development purpose and your PC has at least 4 GB of RAM you may consider to use free Oracle VirutalBox from http://www.virtualbox.org. It can boot and use saved .iso files without the need to burn media. This option will not jeopardize your Windows installation and allow you to run Linux as a Guest OS under your current Windows OS, when you need it. Don't fumble around with old fashioned dual-boot options - it's better to get some more cheap RAM and bigger disk if necessary. Need help in installing Oracle Application Server 10g Rel Wireless Portion

I am trying to install the OAP and need to enable or configure the wireless portion of it. I got this cpio file from Oracle site (as_linux_x86_101300_disk1.cpio & as_linux_x86_101300_disk2.cpio) and installed the OAP. I don't see any option to enable the wireless portion. runInstaller is showing only the basic installer option ( IntegratedWebserver,J2EE Server,Process Management). I have my OAP server running now and this on RedHat AS3.

Which NIC should I buy for Oracle Linux Server 6.4

Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle RAC 11g R2 onto my laptop PC - Lenovo T400s. I have installed Oracle Linux Server 6.4. The OOTB NIC was recognized by OS and eth0 is fine but I need one more NIC for RAC. RAC needs two NIC for public IP and private IP. Now I want to buy NIC for either USB or express card for the second NIC but I don't know which one to buy. Most of NICs that I find on the Internet is supported by Windows or Mac but I could not find any that says it is supported by Linux. Could someone tell me which one I should buy so I can download driver from the company website and compile from source hopefully..

you can build a rac on 2 laptos, sure
are some requirments , like shared storage
RAC will take, RAW device, block device, that can be SCSI, SAS, iSCSI, or lun by fiber channel, here in your setup, you wioll need to read about iscsi and use an storage
other option is use NFS, this will be more easy to implement.. if you have a 3rd machine you can setup it as NFS and mount the NFS int he 2 laptos

I'm using Microsoft's SVCMM to install Oracle Linux Server 5.7 on a 64-bit virtual machine; I'm using the text mode installer.
The first thing the installer tries to do is verify the DVD. It shows a progress bar that completes, then I see the message:
[Media Check Result]
The media check PASSED for the image:
Oracle Linux Server 5.7 DVD
It is OK to install from this media.
I then press "OK" and the next dialog box, immediately, says:
[Error]
The Oracle Linux Server CD was not
found in any of your CDROM drives.
Please insert the Oracle Linux
Server CD and press OK to retry.
How does this make sense?

I experienced the same problem in a different type of setup and remember the fix was to use the "skip" button to bypass media verification.

What i feel is there needs to be some configurataion maybe policy or Agent
IDMDomainAgent is configured and so is the OAM server configured .

While booting Oracle Linux Server (2.6.32-200.20.1.el6uek.i686), I'm getting the following FAILED messages.
Calling the system activity data collector (sadc):
Starting cgconfig service: Failed to parse /etc/cgconfig.conf [FAILED]
Starting trace-cmd: [FAILED]
Can you please help me how to fix these errors?

Perhaps your /etc/cgconfig.conf is screwed up or you have I/O issues due to inappropriate drivers or a bad hardware. Pls provide more info about your systems and whether this is a first time installation or worked before. In the later case, you can try to to boot into single user mode and check the file for anything unusual.

In first place application server 9.0.2 is desupported since 30th June 2007.So oracle would always recommend its customer to be on the latest versions.

I have installed Oracle Linux server 6.2 how i install graphical desktop interface on server class installation

If this is in the very early stage I suggest to re-install the OS.
Look out for the window to select the set of software to install. Leave Basic Server selected, but choose the Customize now ratio button. Select the Desktops group on the left side of the window. Choose at least the X Window System, Fonts and Desktop packages. To get a similar Desktop like in previous Enterprise Linux releases, add also the General Purpose Desktop and Graphical Administration Tools packages

Oracle linux server 6.2 cannot arrive at the desktop screen

hi guys,
i am able to install the server successfully and arrive at the desktop screen. But after i install the additional guest and reboot it just stop at the booting progress bar and refuse to bring me to the desktop screen. I have tried installing it a few time and bum into the same situation. Please further advice.

Your problem description is very vague. I suggest you try the following:
Press any key when the system starts to enter the Grub boot menu.
Press the letter 'e' and press the down arrow key to move the cursor to the kernel line.
Press the letter 'e' again and move the cursor to the left until you can remove "rhgb quit" with the delete key.
Press the Return or Enter key and finally 'b' to boot the system.
Then report at which point the startup process stops and what is displayed on the screen.hey, tks for the reply. The problem is the version of my oracle VM . I decided to try to use the latest one and use the oracle linux server 6.2 image together and it can now boot into my desktop gui with addtionGuest Installed.

Need help on Installing Oracle 8.1.5 !!!

I was just exposed to a DBA's work. Please forgive me if my question sounds naive. Our company bought oracle 8.1.5 Standard Edition for Linux and the OUI gives three categories of choices for installation: Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition, Oracle8i Client and Programmer/2000. I was confused, we bought the standard edition, why did the enterprise edition come together. Furthermore, it seems only Oracle 8i enterprise edition has oracle 8i server, does it mean that we have to install both oracle 8i enterprise edition and oracle client these two categories? How about the license? Suppose I need 10 users(clients) connected to a single oracle server, does it mean I need to purchase the enterprise edition's license for the server even if we bought the standard edition? If no, what would be the answer? You help will be really appreciated.

The Pack that comes from Oracle contains about 30 CDs.
Among these are a standard Edition and an Enterprise Edition CD which each has 2CDs
If you go through the CD,s you should be able to find a
standard Edition Cd 1 and 2

Need an advice in Oracle Application Server

Dear all,
I need your advice.....
What I have:
- 2 servers (Windows 2008 R2 64bit) .. planned as Application Servers
- Oracle 11g Database installed in a server
- forms (.fmx) , reports (.rdf) , compiled using Oracle 10g DS R2
- Oracle 10g Developer Suit R2
What I want:
- Install Oracle Application Server in the 2 servers available (Windows 2008 R2)
- make sure all (.fmx & .rdf) will work im these 2 servers
- take advantage of the powerful servers
What I did:
- Install Oracle 10g AS R2 in both servers
- configure webcache balance
What I faced:
- both servers worked fine except:
- (.fmx) files cannot be cached
- slow while opening (.fmx) files
- AGAIN, SLOW
ADVICE??
- Do I need to continue using this installation OR
- Is there any better installation & configuration that will help get (What I want:)

1)Rules for static content, such as GIF, JPEG, or static HTML files
2)Rules for dynamically generated content created using technologies like Java Server Pages (JSP), Active Server Pages (ASP), PL/SQL Server Pages (PSP), Java Servlets, and Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
How can I make my server caches .fmx files using webcache (( webcache is configured already but it says "URL contains query string"))..

Is there any configuration for Application Server 10g R2 AFTER the fresh installation OR it works as it is ..
The default installation is self tuned to handle a load of approximately 200 users(it depends on network as well as ur DB)
I knew for sure what makes my server slow, that is because of background images in fmb & fmx files. when I removed them it became fast enough.
In my environment,i used to staore all this images in gif format(images size max would be 50kb)then store all these images in a jar file and load this jar file through archive_jini(Formsweb.cfg)

hi, Someone help me to import oracle 10G dump into 9i database. I'm studying oracle . Im using oracle 10G developer suite(downloaded from oracle) and oracle 9i database. I saw some threads tat we can't import the higher version dumps into lower version database. But i'm badly need help for importing the dump...

someone please tell me the site to download oracle 9i Developer suite as i can't find it in oracle site...

I didnt testet it to import a dump out of a 10g instance into a 9i instance if this export has been done using a 10g environment.
But it is possible to perform an export with a 9i environment against a 10g instance.
I am just testing this with a 9.2.0.8 environment against a 10.2.0.4.0 instance and is working so far.
The system raises an EXP-00008 / ORA-37002 error after exporting the data segments (exporting post-schema procedural objects and actions).
I am not sure if it is possible to perform an import to a 9i instance with this dump but maybe worth to give it a try.
It should potentially be possible to export at least 9i compatible objects/segments with this approach.
However, I have my doubts if this stunt is supported by oracle ...

Need help connecting to Oracle 7

My name is Patrick and I have a question regarding Oracle 7. First I need to clarify that I usually don't work with Oracle products at all and there I'm a total newbie in this area; please be gentle! :)
I work for a company that installs/builds/integrate healthcare systems, and we have now encountered a problem that involves Oracle 7. We need to create a connection between a workstation with a Oracle database (version 7) provided by another company and a product of ours using ODBC. We have been in contact with the other company that informed us that we need to install the Oracle 7 ODBC driver that is found on a Oracle Client CD. The problem is that this CD is gone and the customer wasn’t even aware of it. As I understand it there is no way of just downloading and installing the driver by itself, but you need the Oracle installer - is this correct?
Anyway, what would the quickest solution for this problem? Is it even possible to buy Oracle 7 nowadays? Would a later version than 7 work?

In theory it is possible with a 9.0.1 client (but not with 9.2). See note 207303.1 in Metalink.

A 9.0.1 is more difficult to find, but it might be included as part of some other product, eg an old version Discoverer Desktop (such as 4.1 or 9.0.4)
