IDisk Help

Help! I have an iDisk icon that continues to appear on my desktop and I can't make it go away. Ihave clicked and unclicked the box in the finder preferences sidebar, but that only makes it go away in the side bar, not from the desk top. It will not allow me to drag it to the trash, whenever I do that I get an eject icon in the trash. It won't allow me to eject it and when I click on it it does nothing. Make it stop Mommy, make it stop.

  • Web folder on idisk????

okay I am using iweb to make my site and publishing on .mac. I have my idisk sync turned on so I can see it on my desktop.
now, I just published my site but I need to change a file that won't work the way I need it to in iweb so I have to hand code it and then replace the fuzzed one that iweb made. theortically I should be able to just drop it into my idisk and that will update the remote version. yes? trouble is where the heck are the files on the idisk. help says there should be a web folder for iweb stuff but it ain't there.

    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!

  • File folders with arrows

What are file folders with arrows in the lower left called? Is there a link that explains how to use them?
There are several in the iDisk.
    Thank you.

How do I learn how to use this?

I assume you mean external drives, not files?

The most important thing is the Case & chipset used, for most compatibility & speed I'd get a Quad interface one, (USB2, FW400, FW800, eSATA), avoid bus powered drives.

  • Help...over wrote homepage, but original sits on iDisk

I just created my first blog and published it to my homepage using iWeb only to my horror that it over wrote my existing site that I had also created in iWeb. Fortunately that site html and assets sits on my iDisk. Is there anyway to create a new site in iWeb and copy and paste in the old site created in iWeb. Could really use some help as it is my portfolio in the original site.
Desktop G4 Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Yes, in fact I would recommend copying the site folder off your iDisk to your desktop or somewhere for safe keeping until you are done rebuilding. YOu can open up all the folders inside of there and find your original images. And you can copy and paste the text off the pages.
To make a new site and keep the blog you are working on, just select "New Site" frfrom the file menu.

  • Help retrieving remaining files in iDisk!!!!

I have a folder on my Desktop named "Previous Local iDisks."  I moved many files to my Dropbox back in June, but not everything.  Now I need to access a folder with extremely important information.  How can I find it?  Is there some archive with the info?
I hesitated moving everything, because the internet connections I was using were rather slow and it would have taken an extremely long time.  (The folder I'm looking for has 3 years of work from school, and I really need to find it!!!)  Now the modems have been upgraded both at home and at my office.  I want to move everything else to my Dropbox.  Where are the files?  Someone told me that there was an app (called iDisk) that I could download to my iPhone to access the files, but it doesn't work at all.  Please help!!!!

I do have a folder that says "Previous local iDisk" but the contents are now gone.  I used to access the files that way, because I turned off MobileMe once I converted to iCloud.  Last time I used the folder probably back in June or July sometime, I could see my files.  Now, it says it's empty.  I really need to find those files!

  • I cannot access my idisk, I used the password I used to log into my user name but it is still not working. Please help!

I tried several times since I bought my macbook pro to log into my idisk. My password for my user name does not work. I am clueless about what to do next.

You need to turn the phone off and leave it in dry rice for 3-5 days. Then, plug it in and charge it for about 15 minutes and then try to turn it on. If it doesn't work at that point, it will be time to get a new phone.

  • HELP error code 5016 iDisk

    Hi all
Does anyone know what I can do? I dont have a mobileme account cuz i don't have a credit card and its the only way you can get one. And the only help ive been given is to log out and then back into mobileme.
It has nothing to do with my internet because thats working fine, it just says that i can't access it for some reason. Ive logged in and out, restarted, shut down, none of it seems to be helping. Its really annoying me because I can't download anything at the moment.
    Help would be much appreciated..thanks!!
    Lauren

I had to go into the System Preferences and click on Mobile ME, then log out (if you're logged in) and then login again and I was able to get to my idrive just fine...

  • I can't open a pages document on my air that was saved from my desktop through my idisk - please help!!

Pages is installed on my lap stop, desk top but I guess not on my Air - how can I read that document until I am able to load pages into the AIR - I really need to see and change this document?  Thanks.

It's a well known behavior which Jerrold and me described here some weeks ago.
I reported the bug to Apple but it seems that the engineers working upon the AppStore don't know the specs of the different kinds of iWork applications.
    They are three kinds :
    (1) applications resulting of the trial version + a bought registration code
    (2) applications resulting of the instal thru a bought DVD
    (3) applications bought thru the AppStore.
The appStore application is able to recognize the case 3.
Given what you wrote, it seems that it recognize case 2.
Given what Jerrold and me reported here, it doesn't recognize case 1.
In the first version, the app was fool enough to treat iWork '08 as bought 09 ones for a task
but make the difference for an other task.
This foolish thing (I'm listening Lester Young) was killed by the late update.
Of course, Jerrold's and my own versions are legal and up to date.

  • Locked out of additional internal drives... Help please

Any help would be more then welcomed as I did something stupid and need a bit of help to fix it please.
Had an issue today on my Mac Pro (2.8, Quad 5.1). All was running fine until I went to update a piece of 3rd party software (Fetch). After the download I went to drag new version into my apps folder and was told I didn't have permission to instal the app.
Now to be clear, I've had a bit of an issue with this before as I'm running 2 mac pros in different locations and drag and copy files and folders from here to there on a regular basis via FTP and external drives. I also have all 4 slots filled on both systems with various drives set up for a particular function along with a number of externals. I've set permissions on both systems and all drives to "read and write" for both my accounts to have full access and each time "apply to enclosed items" was selected.
But for some reason, from time to time, I have to authorise the file transfer. Haven't figured out the reason but it's not a huge deal so have left it.
Today was the first time I have had access denied for my home folder when working from same system. Not thinking and while on the phone to someone (this is where I did the stupid part), I opened the info on my boot (startup) drive and decided to add both of my user accounts and change permissions for each in addition to the system, admin and everyone that was already there. This was done while working from it directly and then set options to "apply to enclosed items". Yea, smart I know.
About 20 minutes passed and then it told me that it didn't like any of my system extensions. I was forced to do a restart and got the spinning wheel for about 30 minutes. Had to do a force quit and open in single user. Applejack wouldn't help at all, nothing. Had to then open cd drive through terminal just to get systems disk inside.
Restarted from systems disk and tried a simple disk utility repair. System restarted fine but I noticed that I was then locked out of all of my additional internal drives, iDisk included (padlock shown on all drive icons excluding my Boot/Startup drive). Tried opening info on the various drives with apple i option and "permissions denied" popped up each time.
I then took the step to restore from time machine. Set my restore selection to about 2 hours before I became an idiot. After it was finished I restarted the system hoping that would clear up my mistake but same thing, still locked out of all of my drives aside from boot/startup drive.
All user accounts that I have added to the boot drive are still showing, I have yet to try and remove them... Figured I would ask for help before I messed it up any further. Spoke to apple care and they have advised me to do what I have done so far.
Aside from an erase and instal, what steps should I take from this point? Will removing the added accounts clear up the issue?
Also, any idea as to why I was refused permissions to begin with...?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the book, just wanted to be as clear as possible.

  • Domain Splitting and iDisk issues

First, my apologies if my question has been answered previously. I did search the forums, but didn't find anything promising.
I have split my large domain.sites file into four separate domain.sites file, following the guidance of folks on this forum. Each domain.sites file contains two sites; a one-page "index" site with links to all my sites and one of my "real" sites. (the index site has a slightly different name in each domain.sites file so I don't ovewrite).
But now I'm having a dickens of a time keeping all the sites online at the same time. I did some searching in these forums and discovered that I have to do two rounds of "publish all." Since these were existing files, the first time I told one domain file to "publish all," it erased the sites I had deleted from that file. After the second round of publishing, the sites have all come back (except for my biggest one, which I haven't published a second time; I'll do that overnight).
It looked like I have everything working...until I synced my iDisk. Then one of my sites disappeared again! Plus, some of my sites that I can access on-line don't show up on my iDisk.
I typically leave my iDisk mounted on my desktop. Do I need to change this if I'm working with multiple domain.sites files?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Thanks to both of you for your help. I after one last publish last night, I got all my sites on line.
Syncing my iDisk didn't work as well, though. Somehow I ended up with two copies of my iDisk on my desktop: one with the typical globe icon and another with a generic "drive" icon. The globe one was supposedly the current one, saying it had sinced this morning, but it only had some of my sites on it. (Oddly enough, it had each of the index sites, from all four domain.sites files, but not all the "real" sites from those files) The plain "drive" icon idisk had all the files on it. I couldn't get rid of either of them without restarting. But restarting seemed to set things to rights.
I've taken Varkgirl's advice and don't have my iDisk on my desktop. I didn't really access it much anyway.
Would it be of benefit to others for me to spell out the steps I took to split my domains and have a site index always show up as the site for the short url? I'd adjust it with some of the things I've learned in the process. I know there are good instructions for domain splitting in this forum already, but I don't know that my approach to a sites index with multiple domains has appeared on the forums before.

  • Help/explanation needed - Using an external hard drive

    Hi everyone,
I bought an external 250gb hard drive as my MBP was very close to full capacity. Yesterday, I had a bit of a scare...
    1. I backed up my Aperture Library onto the external hard drive.
    2. I had about 500 of my favourite images rated 5 star and so I selected these and set up a new project.
    3. I went through my Aperture library deleting folders/projects that I have completed.
    4. I went back into the 5 star ratings and they did not exist. I assume this is because I deleted the master files.
    5. I wanted to have the 5 star images on my laptop and so I connected my external hard drive once again. [This is where I felt I lost control and understanding of what was going on].
    6. I looked for the seperate Aperture files but could only find a file called Aperture Library. I clicked on this but nothing happened at all [I had thought that it would open up Aperture with the previous library].
    7. I dragged the library onto my desktop and waiting for all the images to reload onto my laptop. I then saw that everything was as it was previously, i.e. all the files and images existed. However, my hard drive space was even lower [I assume this was because the current workflow that I had left on the laptop was now duplicated?].
    8. Then I got a message saying my iDisk space is critically low and may damage my Aperture library. Moments later the majority of my images disappeared and a red space appeared where every photo had previously been. Since I have 2 weddings that I am yet to deliver I was very panicked. I tried to drag and drop the Aperture library once again and the message came back that the operation could not be completed due to the current file already existing.
    9. I unplugged the external hard drive and the photos re-appeared [much to my delight]. However, my concern is that I really don't understand what happened and more importantly why. I will need access to the data on the external hard drive in the event in the near future and am worried that the same thing will happen next time I connect it.
As a result of all this I have some questions, as follows:-
    - Have I adopted the completely wrong approach to backing up data?
    - Can the master files be compressed as I shoot RAW and these are huge files?
    - Why could I not use the Aperture library stored on the external hard drive without downloading it back onto the laptop?
and a more general question about file storage...
    - I am confused as to how much hard drive space is being used on my MBP. I have 13gb in Aperture, 1gb in iTunes and 1gb in iPhoto. However, I only have 50gb available, so half the capacity is currently being used. I know that Aperture and Garageband applications use about 10gb between them and there is of course the operating system, but 50gb in total seems a lot. On investigation in the finder screen I see that on my personal drive the Aperture, iTunes and iPhoto data is stored there. However, it is also stored under pictures and music respectively. Does this mean that it is storing duplicate copies of this data and that is the explanation for such high hard drive usage? If this is the case, can one be removed?
I appreciate that this has been a long email, but I felt it was important to illustrate the steps I have taken. As you will no doubt glean from this post I am not the most computer literate person. Any help/explanation would be most appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jamie

    Hi Jamie.
I am not sure what went wrong with your setup but I will let you know my configuration as an example and you can decide if you think it is a good way to have it. I am asuming you are using ver 1.5?
Like you I have only a Laptop (G4 17" 1.5Ghz 2 Gig Ram - would love a macbook) so hard disk space is a premium. I also have an external firewire drive to hold all the HiRes RAW images. When I download my images from the Camera I do it manually into folders on the external drive (Cataloged by Date and maybe description of location). I then Import the images from those folders into Aperture but use the option when importing to "Store Files - In their current location".
My Aperture library file is on my laptop so all that it has to store is the "Preview" file that gets generated automatically (in the preferences I have it set up to the resolution of my laptop 1440pix so that if I did a slide show it is only as big as my screen - anything more is a waste of disk space IMO.)
I do it this way so that it is easy to find and work on my files with other programs such as Photoshop by going straight to the image rather than exporting from Aperture.
Obviously I cant edit the RAW files while the drive is disconnected but I can still do ratings and keywords without the original files being there.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards
    Andrew

  • Faulty iDisk downloads to ipod touch

Has anyone else experienced this problem with idisk and ipod touch?
I have tried several times via apple care and my apple store to correct a problem of incomplete downloads with the iDisk application to my ipod touch.
A page of four small jpeg photos will randomly drop one of the four photos when accessed via iDisk on my touch.
Each touch I have tried suffered the same problem.
Accessing the file from a computer works correctly.
Likewise, a page of text downloads incompletely . . . about 1/3 to 1/4 of the bottom of each page is missing when downloaded to an ipod touch.
I am baffled that the genius's at the Apple store are totally unconcerned with my issue, and that no one at apple care will even listen to a mobile me related issue.
In theory, idisk would be a great tool for a touch, in practice it seems useless for a touch.
I'm not just complaining, I'd like my idisk app to function as it should, any advice will be appreciated. It's sad that I have to turn to a public forum to seek an answer, rather than getting support from Apple.
    thanks, bob

  • Managing multiple sites in different iWeb versions - PLEASE HELP!

apnewbie/cyclosaurus/roddy/old toad (and any others more knowledgeable than i):
i've run into a bit of a pickle. i am hoping someone can help straighten me out. i am about to jump out of a window. here's the rundown:
(for starters, i have a .mac account and am publishing to .mac.) i created a site in iWeb 1.1.2 on my work computer (mac book pro). worked great, really lovely. thought to myself, "hey, i'd like to create another site from home, but i don't have iWeb at home (powerbook G4) - i should buy iLife 08 so i can build these things from home and not have personal files on my work computer."
so: i had a site that i created within 1.1.2 with files written to iDisk. i purchased iWeb 08 and would like to have another site, but this one is being created in 2.0. i also am using a personal domain name this time around bought with google apps and hosted by godaddy. i published the new work in progress for a test run and...you guessed it...my original 1.1.2 site was rewritten by the 2.0 site. and the 2.0 site comes up as the standard google search page for domains that aren't up and running. whooopsie.
sorry for the lengthy intro, but that's the background. i guess my specific questions are:
    1) i want to be able to maintain multiple sites from iWeb 2.0...can i open my 1.1.2 domain file in 2.0 and successfully bring that site into 2.0?
    2) what is the most efficient and easiest way to get both of these sites running in 2.0? right now i have two domain files (created on two different computers).
    3) for domain management, is it best to move from the iWeb folder in my home library to different folders (one for each site, with separate domain files, and my 2.0 domain file is NOT called domain, it's the name of the site) to another location? (and of course, i will back these up just in case.) and when i want to update a site, i just open that individual domain file, right? or will these sites publish over each other?
please help. i am at my wits end. i'm sure this is a relatviely simple issue, but i'm new to iWeb.
thanks, thanks, thanks for your help guys.
    joojy

    joojy,
    Welcome to the forums!
First of all, your original 1.1.2 site may not, in fact, have been overwritten. It is quite possible that the site remains in it's position on the iDisk, Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSite, but because you published to the iDisk (.Mac) from 2.0, a different index.html file has been placed in the root level Web directory which is causing the 404 error. Navigate to the directory on the iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder, and look to see what is actually there. Follow this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSiteWillBeHereIfYourLuckIsGood
If your site is there, great; if it isn't, it's not really a problem because hopefully you still have the Domain.sites file on the MacBook Pro and you can republish it if necessary. If it is there, you can modify the index.html file on the iDisk using a text editor and get your url redirected back to where it should be.
Second, do not open your 1.1.2 Domain.sites file with 2.0 until you have a backup of this Domain file. External drives are best for this. Assuming the backup is in place, launch 2.0, choose the Domain.sites file, and click on "update". It will be updated to a Domain.sites2 file. If the site looks ok then continue on with editing/publishing.
Skipping to question (3), by all means, abandon the default location of the Domain.sites file in the Home folder's Library and get accustomed to keeping your Domain files in their own, respective folders. When you want to open one just double-click it.
You are going to encounter difficulties publishing multiple sites in 2.0.2, unless you keep all of the sites in a single Domain file. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.0; it publishes to /Web/Sites/, as opposed to /Web/Sites/iWeb/. Publishing a site from a separate Domain file erases previously published sites. I have been able to publish multiple sites, from multiple Domain.sites2 files, by mounting the iDisk and actually moving the Site folder back one level, into the root Web folder, and then publishing. When finished, I move it back again. If you have RSS feeds you will probably get a 'file in use' error. The alternative, (other than keeping all sites in a single Domain), is to publish the site to a folder and then manually drop the Site folder into the Web/Sites/ directory on the iDisk. Of course, some .Mac functions are lost when publishing this way.
Work through this info and post back.
    -Mark
