Idisk issues

so i just downloaded lion and everything is cool and i like it alright.
but today i tried to delete something off my mac hd and i suppose they changed the format and it now says idisk.  I click on idisk and it asks me to sign in using my name and password. ive tried every possible combination with no avail. it then says to make sure i'm signed into mobile me so i try that and it says incorrect password/username.  ive reset my apple id and everything but i have no idea whats going on. any help would be appreciated

The thing is, iDisk is part of MobileMe. It wouldn't (shouldn't) be shown if you don't or didn't have a mobile me account.
You might want to try going to the mobile me sign in page and select "forgot my Apple ID or password" Just so you know, your MobileMe Apple ID could be different than your regular Apple ID, mine is.
When you go into the forgot ID or password area, you may need to try a few of your email addresses to figure out which one your used.

  • Domain Splitting and iDisk issues

First, my apologies if my question has been answered previously. I did search the forums, but didn't find anything promising.
I have split my large domain.sites file into four separate domain.sites file, following the guidance of folks on this forum. Each domain.sites file contains two sites; a one-page "index" site with links to all my sites and one of my "real" sites. (the index site has a slightly different name in each domain.sites file so I don't ovewrite).
But now I'm having a dickens of a time keeping all the sites online at the same time. I did some searching in these forums and discovered that I have to do two rounds of "publish all." Since these were existing files, the first time I told one domain file to "publish all," it erased the sites I had deleted from that file. After the second round of publishing, the sites have all come back (except for my biggest one, which I haven't published a second time; I'll do that overnight).
It looked like I have everything working...until I synced my iDisk. Then one of my sites disappeared again! Plus, some of my sites that I can access on-line don't show up on my iDisk.
I typically leave my iDisk mounted on my desktop. Do I need to change this if I'm working with multiple domain.sites files?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Thanks to both of you for your help. I after one last publish last night, I got all my sites on line.
Syncing my iDisk didn't work as well, though. Somehow I ended up with two copies of my iDisk on my desktop: one with the typical globe icon and another with a generic "drive" icon. The globe one was supposedly the current one, saying it had sinced this morning, but it only had some of my sites on it. (Oddly enough, it had each of the index sites, from all four domain.sites files, but not all the "real" sites from those files) The plain "drive" icon idisk had all the files on it. I couldn't get rid of either of them without restarting. But restarting seemed to set things to rights.
I've taken Varkgirl's advice and don't have my iDisk on my desktop. I didn't really access it much anyway.
Would it be of benefit to others for me to spell out the steps I took to split my domains and have a site index always show up as the site for the short url? I'd adjust it with some of the things I've learned in the process. I know there are good instructions for domain splitting in this forum already, but I don't know that my approach to a sites index with multiple domains has appeared on the forums before.

  • So, iDisk (great with MobileMe) is closed! Ok. I got the most expensive iCloud Plan and LOVED storing files online. Is that REALLY OVER??!! (besides Numbers', Pages', and Keynote's docs sync).. Will I REALLY have to downgrade to "free" on iCloud?!!

So, iDisk (great with MobileMe) is closed! Ok. I got the most expensive iCloud Plan and LOVED storing files online. Is that REALLY OVER??!! (besides Numbers', Pages', and Keynote's docs sync).. Will I REALLY have to downgrade to "free" on iCloud and PAY for "DropBox", "Google Drive" or "Microsft's Sky Whatever.."?!!
I could not log in to this Support Community with my UPDATED Apple ID (and this is another issue I can't believe Apple just says "NO, you CAN'T!" - deleting other (old) Apple IDs we've created by mistake or a long time ago and being able to have it all on ONE SINGLE UPDATED Apple ID - ALSO saving Apple's storage servers, etc.).
Anyway, my Apple ID for better communication is [email protected] (but I really couldn't log in here - it kept saying that the e-mail is already registered, etc. I know it, I'm trying to use it here, that's all...
So, really. Of course a lot of people don't care about the iDisk issue. That's fine, we all love and hate specific apps or software.. But why has Apple just shut it down, since it was so EASY to use (as DropBox) on all our Apple devices?!! So, we really can't upload/store any kind of files anymore and that's it?!
I used iDisk when MobileMe was still alive, and it was great to have my files from work, home, any backup (whatever we want) uploaded and synced and used in our Macs, iPhones and iPads. If we have the OPTION of an iCloud Plan (the top one, for example), but we just don't like the automatick backups for the iPhones and iPads, nor the Pictures' sync function.. Why can't we just have the SAME simple and efficient/great service of the iDisk installed in each device?!
Do we really have to go back and downgrade back to the free iCloud Option (just for keeping the e-mail) and paying extra for DropBox, Google, Microsoft, any other services?! I have nothing against them - I actually have DropBox and it works great because it REMINDS me of iDisk!! But WHY NOT just keep it simple and closed with 1 company/platform/option - Apple's iOS, OSX, etc.
That's why I decided to have a Macbook Pro, an iPhone 4S and an iPad 3rd. Generation (for example, along with other products and services such as Apple TV).. I know I'm CHOOSING to stay with 1 world, that's fine. And that's why I didn't (yet) go for a Samsung phone or another tablet.. I wanna stick with 1 pattern and I have chosen Apple's..
Just can't understand such an innovative company make such decisions (such as shutting down iDisk or not letting us just DELETE Apple IDs we do NOT use anymore).. Please, just some guidance or confirmation if that's correct: No way of uploading files others than Numbers', Pages' or Keynote's!!??
    Thank you very much!!
    Peace.

    Thank you Roger.
That's exactly what I was afraid of...
During all the time I have been a loyal customer of Apple's products and services, these have been the only 2 issues that I really can't understand (specially when we look at Apple's strategies and management)...
    1) Not being able to DELETE (simply delete or deactivate) old or duplicated Apple IDs... I have 3 different Apple IDs but only one is the real Apple ID I use for everything, with all my purchases and services (such as e-mail) related to it (Why won't Apple jus let people delet, deactivate or - at least - merge Apple IDs?! That would help everyone, including Apple when we think about costs, storage, database maintenance, etc.) - Actually, even when I gave up on trying to delete other Apple IDs, I tried to have the one I really use and have organized to use my @me.com address as the Apple ID itself (as Apple asks us to do - and makes sense, of course). But never worked. Just because I created that Apple ID with a @hotmail.com account (since it asks for a valid e-mail when you create an Apple ID, it NEVER lets me now change my Apple ID to my @me.com e-mail address - I mean JUST having my @me.com e-mail address as my primary e-mail and my Apple ID (for example, having that old @hotmail.com e-mail address out of it, cleaned..)!
    2) The other issue was this one, about iDisk. Of course there must be reasons for having it shut down, maybe the apps used by iPhone and iPad, along with the folder on Mac OSX, is way too complicated, expensive, full of bugs, I don't know. But if we decide to pay for 50GB of online storage, why even THINK about different options for files we use?! I have Dropbox, I've read about Google Drive and Microsoft SkyDrive, etc. But I just wanted to STICK with a single ALL-APPLE solution.. That is.. Pay the annual fee for the 50GB and just still keep any file I want on the cloud with iDisk. So, what Apple tells me is that if I have other files than iWork or PDF (and some few exceptions), I should actually downgrade to "free" iCloud and decide to PAY for another solution (organization), such as DropBox, Google Disk or Drive (I don't really know), Micrsoft's SkyDrive..
Of course there's the strategy of getting more and more people to use Pages, Numbers and Keynote (buying them for iOS and Mac OSX, as I already have and love them). But "killing" iDisk and just telling users to look for other storage solutions doesn't really sound like Apple.
I have seen so many questions here about both issues (deleting or merging Apple IDS + iDisk back since we pay for storage) that I really believe Apple should reconsider these issues or, at least, open the issue and let us know what would be the best "partner solution" for iCloud...
    Thanks a lot!
    All the best...
    Eduardo Rocha.

  • Safari & iDisk Websites....

    Help.
I store a number of 'preview' sites for clients on my iDisk, uploaded directly from DreamWeaver (CS4) using WebDAV. All are stored in subfolders, so they can be viewed at "http://www.mypersonaldomain.co.uk/clients/etc...."
Today, I noticed that external CSS style sheets aren't loading properly in Safari 4 (Mac – haven't tried PC version), which results in the pages being rendered very basically, with no styling/background images etc..etc...
    1. Open the files locally and they render fine;
    2. Opening the remote files, and they don't render in Safari, but do in Opera;
    3. This is only a problem with some of my sites stored on iDisk, yet all have same 'structure' and relationship between index.htm and style.css....
..why? I thought this was a Safari 4 issue, then I thought it was an iDisk issue. Now I don't know if it's a combination of both or what.
    Needless to say, I'm puzzled.
If anyone can suggest what's going on (and even better, a solution), I'd love to hear it!
    Thanks in advance.

Had a similar issue with a site I publish to iDisk from iWeb 08. I'm suspecting that Safari 4 somehow corrupted the site. Is that possible?
I installed Safari 4 on my mac and opened the site; it looked very basic, links had turned blue and text wasn't showing. So I reverted to Safari 3, trashed the plist, emptied the cache etc... but my site looked the same! I checked it on another machine. It looked normal in Safari 3 but wrong in Firefox in the same way (blue links etc).
So I republished the whole site from iWeb, and now it looks fine both on both machines on both Safari 3 and Firefox.
Is it possible that a browser could modify the site? The site was certainly working fine in both Firefox and Safari 3 before I opened it in Safari 4.

  • The easiest way to put a YouTube video in iWeb...

Whew! I am so stinkin' proud of myself. Now this tip isn't for you techno gurus out there. This is for the person who is as clueless about half the files on their computer as I am.
I have a blog. I tried to use iWebMore...I've tried iWebEnhancer...etc, etc. I just can't figure out how to import YouTube with those. I've got major iDisk issues that I cannot identify much less resolve.
So here's the tip. A couple weeks ago I downloaded a widget called TubeSock for YouTube videos. I finally opened it up to see what it was and guess what? All you do is copy the url of the video right into Tubesock and "save" it to "video for Mac" and "add to movies folder." Ta-da! So then in iWeb you just insert a movie clip and it's right in there. Drop and drag!
If you download TubeSock for free, then it only records 30 seconds of the video. But registering it for $15 lets you download the entire video. (Some of us will pay anything for easy!)
Let me know if you're as happy about this as I am because I cannot BELIEVE I figured something out on my own!!!
Btw, the url to Tubesock is http://stinkbot.com/Tubesock
    ~G
    http://web.mac.com/franke5

Great find Gina. The best thing about using uTube on your site is that it doesn't use up your bandwidth. And I can also tell you that once you figure out how to do one thing with iWeb the rest comes very easy. Hopefully in the next version of iWeb you will be able to add a piece of HTML code right in the site, rather than having to add it post publish. Keep up the good work!
P.S. If your interested in the way to add a uTube video in your iweb site just post your question in here. There are a lot of talented people in this forum willing to share information and ideas.

  • Search should look at address book notes & application data

Search is basically useless to me, I used to have the ability to categorize my address book, or at the very least make a note in a contact that was searchable. (For example, "work" in the note section of a contact would result in search results of just the contacts with this note, go figure!) I also have lots of stuff in alternate notes programs that is not searchable. Not much of a reach to make data entered into an "i-device" searchable, I think a few software engineers should be able to tackle this insurmountable problem! I paid $500 for a device that has fewer options than my Palm Pilot did 8 years ago!(and in regards to searches, is absolutely inferior)Sounds like the only way to get apple to address an issue is to make lots of noise in this support forum. Sorry to waste anyone's time.

I just had this same problem. I use multiple mac computers that I sync manually because of a previous idisk issue. I noticed as I updated my cloud, the search function in address book quit working properly on each computer.
So created a new group list and I attempted to copy "All Contacts" into that group. It would not copy all my contacts into that group in one paste function. So I took all the the first 25 names and copied them. That worked. Then I moved to the next 26-50 names and so on. I noticed when I got to the fourth group of copying contacts that it did not paste and froze the application.
I quit address book, reopened it. All the contacts before the the fourth group were in the file. The search function worked on those names. I then went card by card and found one that had a "string" of data listed where an email address should I have been. So I deleted the corrupt card and now my address book search is working again.
Here is the short solve. Look for a corrupt card in your address book. I found the corrupt card by trying to copy it over to a new address group. The card that was corrupt just happened to be one that I had updated in the last week or so...
    Hope this helps.

  • My Address Book on Snow Leopard won't Search!

When I type something in on the search field on my address book in Snow Leopard, it won't filter out the search, meaning that nothing new will show up. It will act as if I didn't type anything into the search field at all since nothing changes. I already tried uninstalling the Address Book and reinstalling it from the Snow Leopard DVD but that didn't fix the problem. Any advice?

  • Mass Replaceit Questions

Just started using it. I have a couple of questions

    2. How do I change some identical parameters and not all?

Read this thread - pay attention to the iDisk issues:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=669647&tstart=0
    2. How do I change some identical parameters and not
    all?
You can specify which files and/or you want to search under the "Files" tab. This may help you limit which places changes are made. If something appears multiple times in one searched file, then MRI will change it every time.

  • MBP starts without supposed to do

my macbook pro starts sometimes nights but i dont have set starting times or something like that. i know that this problem is both an old and a common one.. but i didnt find any solutions on it. is there nothing one can do to stop that?

    Hi bagus,
Most of the issues you have were addressed in the firmware and software update to 10.4.6. If you have an external drive or iPod to use for backup or it even sounds like you have a .Mac account, since you referred to iDisk issues, you should back up your important data. After that I would do a clean install and then run all updates in Software Update. Then the firmware update. After all that repair permissions. Then you will see many of those issues gone.

  • Finder to 100% CPU

I frequently seem to see Finder go to 100% CPU (101.3% etc). Is this an issue on a MacBookPro?
Is this a iDisk issue? Time Machine? Parallels 6?
Is there a way to find out?
I'm new to mac but I get more spinning multicolored pinwheel delays and hangs than I would expect and software such as Pages takes longer to open a text document than I would have imagined...
The computer is 6 months old at this point but it's been a bit of a wild ride.
    Thanks,
    Jon

I seem to be having (at least) a problem with Parallels 6. I see that "prl_vm" is running at 97% CPU even when the software is not on.
Did you shut down Windows completely? If so, I'm not sure why Parallels would be consuming so much CPU time. With Windows shut down on my Mac the VMware processes use hardly any CPU time. With Windows idling, VMware seems to consume around 5% of a core.
Looks like I have 2 - 2.56Ghz processors and when prl_vm or finder say that they are at 100% that means they are using half my processing power (when they appear to be doing nothing)? Is that right?
I would think that a processor of that speed would have more than one core. I can't find a listing for a Mac Pro with 2.56 GHz processors. Could you mean 2.66 GHz? Processors in that class seem to have either two or four cores. That would mean that a process using 100% of a core would be using one fourth or one half of your processing power. In either case your Mac should have plenty of processing power left over for other things.
Pinned CPU is bad and abnormal but spiked Disk Activity is OK is that the lesson here?
Any time you ask your computer to do something both CPU and disk activity are likely to increase temporarily. Once the requested thing is complete they are both likely to drop to previous levels. You may also see interesting things under the "System Memory" tab of Activity Monitor. If the value for "Page outs" is above zero and increases while you work, your Mac is spending time managing a shortage of RAM by writing some of its contents to disk.
Windows under Parallels may be an exception to this. I'm guessing, but that combination may routinely consume one or more of your Mac's processor cores. You should be able to configure Parallels regarding how many cores it can dedicate to Windows.

  • Always having a copy and iDisk sync issue questions...

    1. Let's say I have a 50 GB hard drive and I use another internal drive which is 100 GB for Time Machine. I do know that if I run out of space Time Machine deletes older back ups (if I read that correctly). Now I'm assuming that there should ALWAYS be copy of all my files contained on the main drive am I correct? And that Time Machine wouldn't necessarily delete all copies of a file to make room for new back up?
    2. Can someone clarify what the issue with iDisk syncing and Time Machine is? I was reading that Time Machine was filing up the startup disk when iDisk syncing was on (whiles they had Time Machine setup on an External). I can't quite see why Time machine would fill up a disk that it isn't assigned to back up too simply because iDisk syncing is on.

You should be using TM to backup to an external HD and not to your internal drive. Not sure what the 50GB drive is for - have you partitioned your internal drive?
Since you can't use TM to backup to iDisk there should be no issues with iDisk syncing and TM.
Briefly, TM backs up your complete system (less exclusions you can set) to an external HD every hour, then daily, then weekly and finally monthly. When your HD is full TM will start to delete the oldest backups to make room for more backups.

  • 2 computers & 2 Websites for one iMac Account/one iDisk, strange issues

Hi. I know this looks like a long post but PLEASE bear with me and read on, I am in desparate need of advice.
My husband and I share one .mac account, which we've had for a couple of years now. We've used it to publish countless homepage pages with movies and pictures with no problem.
We have 2 computers in the house. The desktop is an iMac (dome base) and the other is an iBook. With iLife '05 and homepage, editing pages was not a problem from either computer. That's the beauty of .mac and iDisk, right?
Now, with iWeb, we have an issue. I built a website with podcast using iWeb and Garage Band (thanks to help from advice here) and even successfully puchased a domain name and redirected it to that site. I worked on the desktop.
    It can be found here:
    www.clevelandcelticpodcast.com
Just after I finished and pointed the domain name, my husband created another website for school. (He is a teacher.) He used iWeb and the iBook laptop. His can be found here:
    http://web.mac.com/elmhead/iWeb
    NOW, HERE'S THE PROBLEM
When I open iWeb on the desktop, only my site shows up in the site organizer bar. When he opens iWeb on the laptop, only his site shows up in the organizer bar.
Yet, any time I try to make a change to my page, these things now happen:
    1. The changes look like they are applied before publishing
    2. Publishing upload bar appears as normal
    3. "Announce/Visit" window that pops up points to HIS website, not mine
    4. When I go to my website on my own by typing in domain name, no changes are shown
    5. His site does not point to any of my pages and seems to work fine.
Please note, when I go to the .mac homepage and log in, all my homepage sites are still listed... but NEITHER iWeb site is listed!
Huh? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Wendy

Problem as I see it is you can't do what you are doing. But let me get it right before I start, you say you are redirecting your site from your own domain name, therefore I assume you are still publishing it to .mac and so is your husband.
iweb makes a local copy of your site on your mac, which is updated everytime you save, but when you publish it sends data to .mac (straight to it-if you have a local copy of your idisk on your mac, it doesn't put it there)
All the data you publish goes in a folder called 'Web' (your old homepage stuff goes in a folder called 'Sites'), inside the folder called 'Web' is another folder called 'Sites' (nothing to do with your homepage 'Sites' folder) and inside that is another folder called 'iWeb', this is where all your data goes when you publish.
When you publish, iWeb creates more folders which it puts in the 'iWeb' folder, (there is likely more than one folder it creates, but that is not relevant for the moment) all your files are placed in these folders except one, which is placed directly in the 'iWeb' folder. This file is called 'index.html', it is always called this, because this is how browsers find your 'home' or start page.
You may now be able to see what's coming. When your husband publishes his pages, his iWeb also creates a file called 'index.html' which his iWeb also wants to put in the iWeb folder. Result is it overwrites yours, there is no way around this the way you are doing things.
I would suggest sharing a domain file between you, but since your husband appears to need to work on his site at the same time but in a different location, you would be unable to share it, so I won't even go there.
There are a couple of workarounds, but I would be inclined for one of you to publish to a folder and upload manually to a folder you have manually created in the 'iWeb' folder on .mac (with a unique name)
In this example I will use the folder name 'Charlotte'.
So your husband (say) continues to publish as normal. You mount your idisk and create 'Charlotte', i.e. iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Charlotte, when you are ready to publish, go to the file menu and choose 'publish to a folder'. It will ask you for a URL, you would type in 'http://web.mac.com/elmhead/iWeb/Charlotte' and you would choose a folder (say) on your desktop (say called 'my site') to publish to.
Once you have published you would need to upload everything inside 'my site' to your .mac account, which you could do by placing everything inside 'my site' into Web/Sites/iWeb/Charlotte on a local copy of your idisk and syncing or use something like 'transmit' or 'captainftp'
You would get to your husbands site from the address he is using now, you would get to yours using 'http://web.mac.com/elmhead/iWeb/Charlotte', you would also need to redirect to this address from your new domain name.

  • Permissions Issue; cant access a partitioned part of my HDD or my iDisk

I've been having a few issues with permissions sharing files between my Mac Book and iMac, I recently reset the permissions to read/write for myself including all sub-folders on my HDD. Having done this I now cannot access a partitioned part of my HDD or my iDisk!
When I try I get a "Folder XXX can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents"
When I go to "get info" and look at the permissions they all read "custom". When I change them to read/write they go back to custom. I've tried repairing permissions in Disk Utility, booted from the instillation DVD and tried the Disk Utility again, also the Reset Passwords option but still no access!
    Can anyone help?

It would seem you've really gotten the permissions messed up. Here's a rather involved process for getting all the permissions reset for the entire HDD hierarchy.
Startup into Single User Mode: How to Startup into Single User Mode. When startup finishes you should have a black screen with white type ending with a prompt. Enter these commands and press RETURN after each one:
    mount -uw /
    chown root:admin /
    chmod 1775 /
    reboot
After rebooting open the Terminal application to set the following directory permissions. You can paste these lines or enter by hand, but be careful to enter them correctly.
    sudo su
Password: [Enter your admin password when prompted.]
    chown root:admin /Applications
    chmod 0775 /Applications
    chown root:admin /Library
    chmod 1775 /Library
    chown root:admin /System
    chmod 0775 /System
    chown root:admin /Users
    chmod 0775 /Users
    chmod -R -N /Applications
    chown -R :admin /Applications/*
    chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    Now restart the computer.

Please help or my i book is about to swimming in the Indian Ocean, each time i try to set up idisk, my machine crashes when it gets to the sync stage. It tells me my idisk user name and password is incorrect ( it isn't ) then when I force quit the app, my machine will not shut down, with a msg about the mirror writing application is not responding, so holding down the the power key until it quits is the only option.
I pay for a service that I cannot utilise or will not run,,, not happy.
I have 42gb available on the machine from the 80 odd on the machine, would a memory upgrade help any??
    Many thanks

I have 42gb available on the machine from the 80 odd on the machine, would a memory upgrade help any??
Your iBook has 2 different types of memory/storage - RAM and hard drive. Typically when you say "memory upgrade" it refers to upgrading the RAM. The "42gb available ... from the 80 odd" is a reference to space on the hard drive.
Depending on how much RAM you have installed, you could upgrade the RAM. However that doesn't have anything to do with the hard drive and wouldn't change the "42g" number.
To increase the "42g" number you would need to replace the hard drive with a hard drive that has larger capacity.

  • Why haven't my MobileMe files moved over to iCloud?  iDisk and Lion issue?

Everything else has matriculated over to iCloud automatically.  But my working files, typically MSOffice files also, have not.  What can I do to get them to move?  Or should I just put everything onto a hard drive on my desk and chuck the notion of online "cloud" storage?   Another way of putting it; iDisk isn't showing up on my computer and is not accessbile via Lion.  So, how do I get my files to move to iCloud from MobileMe, and then show up via Lion as either in iCloud or my iDisk?

Please amend your signature to show you are using Lion - having the wrong system showing can lead to some irrelevant answers.
Your iDisk and its contents, including websites and Gallery, do not migrate to iCloud: iCloud does not provide these facilities. The iDisk will continue to work as before but will terminate on 30 June 2012 and its contents be deleted, so you will need to find alternatives before then.
The migration process has probably logged you out of MobileMe and you will need to go to System Preferences>MobileMe and sign in again.
This article examines alternatives to the facilities iCloud does not provide:
