IDisk Syncing Problems

Hi Folks -
I just upgraded to Leopard on my MacBook. Now, I am having problems with my iDisk, which is mounted on my desktop. Prior to upgrading to Leopard, it worked as expected, syncing files with .Mac perfectly. Now, the circular arrow in the Finder whirls constantly and my iDisk folder always says "Checking Files" without every getting around to syncing them. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have any suggestions about how to fix it?
Thank you!

Yep, I am getting this A LOT too. Hah! ..but not always. By one if those strange acts of synchronicity and after the 6th attempt and 3rd reboot this evening it just finished syncing whilst typing this message. Typical.
But it's been very temperamental and I have had it syncing for hours with no response after only changing a small file. Pretty frustrating - can't really rely on it anymore and am thinking of giving up on the stupid thing and going back to using a USB stick again.

  • Disappearing Webpages and iDisk syncing errors in Leopard

    (1) I am having a problem that just started today. I installed Leopard on Oct. 29, I've had it for a couple of weeks. At first, I loved it, but new problems keep popping up every few days. I have an at-home business and I run Safari, Firefox and Safari Mail simultaneously to monitor two businesses. Safari hasn't been affected, so far, but Firefox and Mail will shut down spontaneously. It always happens after I leave my computer, so I don't know what actually happens. But when I come back all I have is my desktop but no webpages are open. The only way I can get them to re-open is to Restart the computer.
    (2) Another problem that started last night is with iDisk sync. I get an error box stating that certain items were unable to sync. Always different items, but all are photos that are on iWeb or .Mac Homepage and have been there since Tiger. I have not changed or altered anything in my iDisk folders since installing Leopard.
The very first problem that I noticed after installing Leopard is that webpages are opening much more slowly than with Tiger. Evenings are always the slowest but it's never been as fast as Tiger. I'm on an ethernet cord, but that didn't speed things up at all from wireless.
Any help or fixes to these glitches will be much appreciated!
These are my browsers' stats and HD info.

  • Publish Error and iDisk sync

I saw a previous post re an unknown error when trying to publish. I am getting the same error, even when trying to publish to a folder.
In the previous post, someone mentioned an iDisk sync solved the publishing problem. How is this done?

Okay, I launched iWeb, chose the first template offered ("Welcome"), made no changes, then selected File, Publish to .Mac. I got the same error: "An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site", and there are no new folders in my iDisk. I then removed the default image, the Apple logo, and replaced the placeholder text with something short, and tried again. Same error.
The default name of the site (in the Site Organizer panel) is "Site" and the page is "Welcome".
More info. The "Visit" button generates this URL:
    http://web.mac.com/[myDotMacName]/iWeb/Site
I tried File, Publish to a Folder..., and that seemed to work, but that's just a folder on my local machine.

  • IDisk Sync Errors

Since installing Snow Leopard, I have two types of iDisk Sync Errors:
    1) It says a file was modified on Mobile Me and also modified on My Computer. This is simply untrue. I never use Mobile Me.
    2) It says the file cannot be synced because it is "in use" even when it is not in use and the application is actually closed.
I have used iDisk for 1 year before Snow Leopard and never experienced either of these problems.
    Is there a solution?

    G'day,

  • .Mac iDisk syncing preventing reliable Restarts/Shut Downs in Leopard

I have been experiencing a Restart/Shut Down reliability issue with my new iMac and Leopard 10.5.1. This evening an Apple rep I know pointed me to a work-around in Apple Discussions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5957261&#5957261
This thread notes the discovery by one user that iDisk automatic syncing is not working reliably, and is preventing consistent restarting/shutting down of your Mac. Although, syncing has been working reliably for me both for .Mac stuff, and the iDisk itself, if you do a Get Info on your iDisk it reports, at least for me, that its capacity is 1TB, with 466GB available. I have only the standard 10GB .Mac account, and only 5GB of that is allocated to my iDisk, so something is clearly amiss with the .Mac iDisk setup, as being reported from the .Mac server. If you check your Console logs, you may also see this recurring error message, which is reporting a syncing error, although my syncs have, as I've said, been working correctly:
    11/25/07 9:11 PM FileSyncAgent192 MKCOL /.FileSync (FAILED), httpStatusCode:405, errorType:100, transactionState:5, txnId:3846B904-9ABB-40E5-9928-B9233FAC05D2, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0
To summarize, if you turn off automatic iDisk syncing in your System Preferences/.Mac/iDisk preference pane, you'll have no problems restarting/shutting down. You may also need to do the power management reset (turn off Mac, unplug all devices and power for 15 seconds, reconnect, and start up) and the parameter RAM reset (reboot while holding down the cmd-opt-P-R keys). You can do this in one restart cycle, if you like. After that, restarts/shutting down has worked perfectly for me.
Of course, I actually USE my iDisk, and will be leaving it on. But, at least I know now how to work around the restart/shut down issue.
I hope Apple adds this fix to their 10.5.2 update next month.
Note: This is such an important issue, that in addition to adding it to a reply in another Shut Down thread, I thought I'd post it as a separate topic here.

MacOS X updates have resolved this issue.

  • 10.4.9 Update = Major Sync Problems

iDisk syncing = repeated syncing of the same files even when there are no changes. Also syncing of supposedly deleted files' "ghosts" - no such problem in 10.4.8
.mac syncing = numerous (dozens) of calendar and file "conflicts" between "this computer" and/or "iCal" and .mac (and sometimes three-way conflicts with Entourage). I always choose .mac to resolve the conflict. But even then sometimes the same supposedly resolved conflict repeats itself.
Any suggestions on how to end these problems?

If anyone else has this problem, the solution can be found here:

  • .Mac sync problem

I can't sync my computer with my .Mac account. When I go to "System Preferences"->".Mac"->"Sync", the computer just sits there and I won't be able to go into the "Sync" option. I can't access the "Advanced" option in this window neither, however the "iDisk" and "Account" options are accessible.
I don't know if this related with my iSync problem reported also in this forum.
    Thanks in advance.

Replying to myself as the one long discussion about recent .Mac sync problems has been locked!!
Just to say that NOW .Mac on the web says:
".Mac sync services are currently intermittently unavailable to some users. Changes made to synced information will be reflected when the problem is resolved. All other .Mac services are unaffected.
    Last Updated: 6/1/06"
So the MANY people who have been posting problems in the last 24+ h MAY find it resolves and is not their end. But, customer care suggestion to apple:
    - IF you think .Mac syncing has a problem POST the info IMMEDIATELY
    - Possibly even email .Mac members as many use sync all the time without logging on the .Mac web services
The time and stress (cand cost) spent by many trying to fix their own syncing is frustrating. I have spent several hrs over the last 24h unregistering, registering, syncing manually, resetting from different Macs, doing it item by item...finding a glimmer of hope when on one occasion Mail synced and on another so did contacts, only for .Mac login failures to continue...This has clearly been replicated by a large number of other frustrated customers from the other postings on this over the last day.

  • IDisk Sync Issues

A couple problems which I can solve:
    - iDisk on Desktop has my username listed instead of 'iDisk'. In sidebar it still says 'iDisk')
    - iDisk on Desktop reports incorrect size (out by huge orders of magnitude).
    - some files on my own iDisk can't be deleted as I don't 'have permission' (eg. 'About your iDisk.rtf')
    I've:
    - reset .Mac syncing
    - reset iDisk syncing (same problems)
    - checked the hard disk and permissions (all OK)
    - the permission on the problem files should allow me FULL access, yet it gives these errors...
Please sort out this stuff, Apple...
    Thanks,
    Paul Martin

    A disclaimer: I don't use iDisk myself.
But WebDAV is a Web Publishing protocol. Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning.
I'm under the impression that it's what is used for iWeb publishing on .mac, I suppose that it could also be used for iDisk as well. It requires authentication to publish, usually. If they've horked something up on their end and you're unable to authenticate or your network connection isn't good, this could cause problems with that. If it uses your keychain to authenticate, and uses SSL, which I would assume that it does, I have some ideas.
I was having problems connecting to SSL sites at *.apple.com and other places since 10.5.0, the solution in this discussion: [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1272177]. Based on your problem and this solution, I'm going to guess that you're on DSL, that WebDAV is what iDisk is based on, using SSL to communicate with iDisk for at least authentication, and likely moving files back and forth as well. That's a lot of guessing, and I may be wrong in any one or more places.
Most of my problems have been cleared up by this. Changing the MTU on the ethernet connection that gets you out to the internet isn't the favored solution, and may disappear if your computer sleeps and wakes back up or reboot (if you haven't hacked some system files to reinitialize this setting).

  • Broken IDisk Sync with OSX 10.5.2

Does anyone know if the Broken iDisk syncing was fixed in OSX 10.5.2? I had to disable IDisk Sync in OSX 10.5.1 as it was eating up so much memory.

it appears to be fixed on my powerbook pro 2.33ghz, 2g
my idisk has 2G in it, and the sparse image quickly expanded to fill my whole harddrive before 10.5.2. Now it appears to be fixed.
used disk inventory X to find the problem, which is pretty useful, before finding out about the exploding idisk image.
Pretty shoddy stuff for an expensive online drive.
Anyone tried webdrive on a PC, it works better with idisk than apple software!

  • Using AppleScript to kick off an iDisk 'sync-now'

I'm using my iDisk to synchronize project work between my MacBook Pro and my Mac Pro.
Unfortunately, I get problems when syncing my iDisk as some files throw up errors due to 'symlinks'. It's not too much trouble as the files at fault are only temporary and can be deleted before syncing.
To get around the problem, I decided to switch to manual iDisk syncing & write an AppleScript to simply delete a few folders and kick off a sync.
The record command in the Script Editor doesn't seem to recognize the 'sync' command. Does anyone know if it can potentially be triggered?
So to cut a long story short; 'How do I trigger an iDisk sync via AppleScript'?
    Thanks in advance!

No, it doesn't have to be an exe... but you have to actually run java.exe just like on the command line.
You can kill it if you hold onto the Process object it returns. Read the API docs for java.lang.Runtime and java.lang.Process

  • I have set up my new iPad 2 on my windowsn 7 computer, but experienced syncing problems from the start. It seems that it doesn't recognize the iPad, although it appears in iTunes. It only gives set up as new or restore options.

I have set up my new iPad 2 on my computer (Windows 7), but experienced syncing problems from the start.  It seems that although my iPad is regognized in iTunes as it appears there, it only gives met the options to set up as a new iPad or restore from the backup, no synching options. What do I do?

File>Devices>Transfer Purchases will transfer the itunes purchases to your ocmputer.
You should sync your ipod to your computer regularly.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

  • Owning 2 iphones with one Apple account has = Sync Problems.

Owning 2 iphones with one Apple account has = Sync Problems.  iTunes is thinking my old iphone 4 is the same phone as my iphone 5C.  When I plugged in my iphone 5C it auto synced my 5C to iTunes and it wiped my 5C and restored it to the same content as is on my iPhone 4.  This is a big problem since my 5 year old has been using the iPhone 4.  It's all Mickey Mouse and Backyardigans.  (Total photo/app/contacts loss)
I was able to update the 5C and restore from a 3 month old backup that is actually the content from the 5C but now when I plug in my 5C it wants to "setup as new phone" or "restore from backup"  What's going on?  I'm afraid to choose either option.
How can I get iTunes to see these devices as 2 and not one?
Can I use my Apple ID on both phones still or is this the problem?

They were both displaying the same name in iTunes.  I changed the name of the iPhone 4 before the 5C was plugged in but it still went ahead with syncing it to the 4's data.

  • Outlook 2003 + iPhone calendar sync problem solved

Here is how I solved my sync problem. Seems a lot of people have the same problem here with Outlook sync suddenly not working after it worked fine for a long time.
I've had Outlook 2003 calendar sync with my iPhone for a few month without any problem, but a few days ago the sync suddenly stopped without any error message. iTunes Diagnostic found no problem and I followed all the steps that Apple outlines to fix the problem but nothing worked (TS2776).
As Apple asked to, I created a new user account on my Windows machine and setup a few test calendar entries to sync with my iPhone. That all worked fine.
So I did what Apple doesn't tell you, and I copied my original Outlook Data file (.PST) over to my new user account and tried to sync that one. Now this didn't work. So I knew the problem lies somewhere in my PST file.
I have then tried to create a new one from scratch in my original Windows account, and copy all the data over. Again, it didn't work. So I emptied the file again, and copied all my calendar entries over to the new PST file in batches (first 10, then another 10, etc).
What I found at the end is that one single calendar entry I created a few days ago caused my sync to stop working. Once I removed this entry, everything worked fine again. Don't ask me what was wrong with it (I made a backup just in case Apple wants to see it), but now everything works again.
If you want to save some time to find which one it is, you may start deleting entries that you created just recently before it stopped working.
    Hope that helps.

Hi im having the same problem. I use outlook 2003 on windows xp and until recently my sync (using usb) was working fine. Now it would seem that calendar items are no longer syncing. can you give any further details of the calendar entry which was causing your problem? im wondering if it was added on a certain date perhaps.
I am running the inbox repair tool to see if my pst file has any problems but would appreciate any other help in the mean time.
    Cheers

  • How can I sync my IPOD Nano 4 to iTunes on my PC? I've already tried the sync button on iTunes and it says it is synced. I've also tried the 5 steps recommended by Apple to fix sync problems with no luck.

How can I sync my ipod nano 4 to iTunes on my PC? I've tried the sync botton on iTunes and the 5 steps recommended by Apple to correct sync problems with no luck.

How is your iPod configured to sync content from your iTunes library? Any error messages during the sync process?
You may want to reset warnings on the device by right->clicking on it under Devices and choosing Reset Warnings.  Then resync the iPod to see if any alerts appear.
Is this the same computer you normally sync the Nano with?
