IDisk temporarily loses files

Using iDisk recently has been driving me skitz. If I ulpoad web pages onto my iDisk and then move them into a correct folder it freezes finder.
Then I realise there seem to be three files that get temporarily lost - page1.html, iestyle.css spacer.gif - Suddenly they appear out of nowhere and Finder is fine again. Any explanations?
Just to add my pennyworth, if I ftp webpages onto my iDisk via something as basic as Filechute it takes a fraction of the time and is so convenient and useful than if I drag and drop in Finder. One wonders what the gurus at Apple were thinking when they tell us that there is something so special about Webdav. It is not in OSX for ease of use.

dont know how but it is solved

  • Will I lose files if I update to Mavericks?

will i lose files, if i udate to Mavericks?

    Yes.
OS X is changed, but not users files. However the install can go very badly, and without a back up, cost a lot of money in data recovery efforts.
Always backup your users files to external drives before inflicting any major change or do so routinely to counter if the machine fails to function out of the blue.
Everything in software can be replaced, except your users files as they are unique and personal.
I had a boot hard drive just suddenly not work one morning. Dead as a doornail.
Only took a few seconds to boot from my bootable clone and call Apple for a replacement drive.

No. There is no iDisk with iCloud. You can use one of several third-party alternatives like SugarSync, ADrive, or MediaFire.

  • Do i lose files when upgrading to Lion?

I am preparing to upgrade to Lion fromsnowleapard, i don't have a back up, but my question is:
Do I lose files when upgrading to Lion? I have microsoft office for MAC 2011 installed and files for garageband which I realy don't want to loose!

If you have files you don't want to lose, you should back up your system regardless of upgrading or not.  Buy an external drive and clone your system or use Time Machine to back it up.
The normal Lion upgrade won't delete your data if things go correctly, any hiccups and you'll need that backup.

  • Will I lose files when I perform Lion Recovery?

Will I lose any files when I perform Lion Recovery? I have been having some problems with my 2011 MacBook Pro 13-inch lately and am considering using Lion Recovery to solve them.. Will I lose any of my files when installing a fresh copy of Lion with Lion Recovery??
    HELP ME PLEASEEEE!!!!
    Thanks

You need to get some way of backing up your files if you care about them. Otherwise you're at risk of data loss, particularly since youre having problems now which could escalate at any time. Running any computer, regardless of operating system, without making backup of important files is taking a rather foolish risk. There are all sorts of ways to make backups; there are even free online storage services such as Dropbox which offer a couple of gigabytes of free space in their servers to which you can back up, if you have no other method.

  • Lightroom loses files on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive

    I am using Lightroom 5.7 on a PC in Windows 7 64-bit.
A couple of weeks ago I installed a Network Attached Storage (NAS) system as I was running out of internal hard disk space.  I set up a logical drive on the NAS for Photos.  In Lightroom, I dragged the photo files over onto the new drive.  The catalogue and backup files remained on the internal hard drive.
My photos are arranged chronologically, in directories (years) and subdirectories (days, named using the format "2014_12_31").
Since moving the files to the NAS, Lightroom has been giving me error messages when in the Develop module that it cannot find files.  The previews view fine in the Library module, and the files are still there when I look for them in Windows Explorer.  The errors do not occur within entire directories (years) subdirectories (days) - only some files within individual subdirectories are affected.  And, only files from 2015 seem to have the problem.  And, when I drag the directories back to my internal hard drive (again, within Lightroom), the errors disappear and everything works fine.

Yes, right clicking on the problem folders and showing in explorer does show the connection is to the correct folder location.
A couple more points that may be worth mentioning:
When I was having this problem earlier this week, the missing photos seemed to be spread randomly within different folders and subfolders (folders are year, with subfolders for each day I have photos).  I followed the advice in the document you referenced yesterday, and went back through each main folder (there are about a dozen of them, one for each year plus a few miscellaneous folders) and used the "update folder location" function.  This worked well I thought - except I realized later on that one year (2014) still had the photos missing - but this time, it seems to be all photos within that year folder, not just a few random ones.  There is no "?" on the folder, or "!" on the individual photos, they show fine in preview, but clicking on the develop module every photo has the message "cannot find file".  When I right click on the folder, or individual files to follow the location of the file in explorer, the location is correct - and as far as I can tell the locations and structure is consistent with the folders for all the other years which Lightroom has no problem finding.  That is, I can see nothing "unusual" about the folder for 2014 in the way it sits within my filing structure.
And here's the kicker - last night I made a copy of the entire 2014 folder that was on the NAS external drive (where Lightroom can't seem to locate the files) back on to my internal drive (this took a couple of hours).  This morning, I forced Lightroom to lose the link to the folder on the network drive by simply changing the name of the folder from within windows explorer, and then the "?" and "!" warnings popped up in Lightroom indicating it could not find the folder and files.  I then used "update folder location" to point Lightroom at the copies that were now on the internal drive, and the problem disappeared (all files were located).
Finally, I then broke the link to the folder on the internal drive by changing the name of the folder on the internal drive from within explorer, renamed the folder on the NAS drive back to "2014", then opened up Lightroom again (and of course it indicated the files were missing) and used the update feature again to point Lightroom back to the folder on the NAS.  And, again, the missing files errors pop up for every photo within that folder - but no "?" or "!" warnings are shown  (recall these are an exact copy of the files that it had no trouble finding on the internal drive).
I tried playing various games with Lightroom last night, forcing it to break linkages by renaming folders, etc, and every time when I use the update file location feature it has no trouble reconnecting, whether the folders are on my internal drive or the NAS.  So, this functionality seems to be working within Lightroom and I know how to use and abuse it. BUT, it steadfastly refuses to reconnect with the 2014 folder when it's on the NAS, but has no trouble reconnecting when pointed to an exact copy of the same folder on my internal drive.
I'm kind of at my wits end here.  There seems to be some sort of bug in Lightroom that makes it lose it's wits when connecting to photos on a NAS drive.  Or, I'm doing something really wrong that isn't obvious......

  • Updating iTunes version- lose files?

Honestly, I still have unresolved questions about iTunes losing files (exclamation point) for no apparent reason, so I'm hesitant to update to the new version of iTunes for Windows.
If I update, will I lose my playlists/rankings? Will iTunes "forget" where my files are (file path?)? Will I have to manually relocate my files on my external hard drive all over again, one by one?
    Please help!

    undies78,
There should not be an issue with updating to the latest version of iTunes for Windows. The update will carry over preferences and ratings that you had with the previous version.
You can get the latest version here:

How do i change the document to the correct file type for idisk to funtion(open file}???

The iPhone supports the following file types:

  • FileReference.save() loses file extension on Windows

    Hi all,
I've run into an issue that I'm hoping someone has a workaround for. I'm using FileReference.save in a few places in my project. We ran into a bug today where the save operation loses the file extension under certain conditions. Those conditions are:
The user is running on Windows and has hide file extensions turned on (the default)
The user modifies the file name before saving.
If the user has file extensions turned on or just saves without modifying the file name everything works fine.
Does anyone know a workaround or fix for this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

sorry Codeflayer, there's no way round it as far as i know (and ive tried, believe me)
and its a feature, not a bug

  • Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses file extension when saving over an existing document

Saving attachments on Snow leopard mail loses the file extension when clicking on an existing file to copy the name. Is there something I can switch on in the preferences to fix this?

I work for a publishing company where our clients send their copy to us in Word documents. We might have several versions sent to us before the final version comes in.
It is instances like this where we want to overwrite a document on the server with the most up-to-date version (which is usually named differently to the original file). We really don't want to clutter the folder with lots of different revisions. The quick way to do this is to click on the document we are replacing (this copies the document name). Previous versions of OSX Mail used to keep the file extension but Snow Leopard seems to remove it.
It's annoying as there is no particular logic to this. We just have to manually type ".doc" at the end of the document.
Incidentally, this happens with any attachment file type.

  • Will sync-ing iPad to new Macbook lose files other than music files?

I bought my first Macbook (first Mac laptop, and first Mac in over a decade) a few months ago and have been a little reluctant to sync my iPad to it. Will I lose anything other than my iTunes files? e.g. Will my Pages files or iBooks or Kindle files disappear? What will happen to my apps? My hard drive crashed late last year and I have lost some things that I won't be getting back, so I just want to make sure that when I do sync I'm doing it with full knowledge of what's going to happen. (i.e. I can try emailing all of my Pages docs to myself first.)
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Hey. thinking of upgrading to snow leopard. should i back up my files first or is there any fear that i could lose files by upgrading???

    Hey guys
hoping to upgrade existing OS to Leopard. before i do just wanna confirm that this operation wont effect my existing files on my mac??

You should be keeping a backup anyway.  I use CarbonCopyClone (free download) that makes a bootable copy of my internal drive to be used in case of emergency.  SuperDuper! also has a good reutation in the forum.  Either one would serve well.
Upgrading without a backup is very risky, despite the fact that few upgrade fail catastrophically.  Any hitch in the upgrade could send you back to square 1 and a full reinstall of all applications if you have no backup.

  • Keynote loses file

While editing a presentation, Keynote crashed. The edited file has been completely lost and could not be found after booting Keynote and the system. However, the recent items list of both Keynote and MACOS displayed this item. But selecting it did not lead to any response.
The item has been retrieved from Time Machine where it was in the folder where it should be. This folder is on the same drive as Keynote and the system. Shortly before Keynote crashed, either the system or Keynote displayed a message telling that the location for saving the presentation could not be found. Thus, I selected the folder manually and saved the file. Around 10 minutes later, the crash came and the file was lost. It is not on another drive or somewhere in the network.
    Any idea about this disaster?
    Thanks for helping!

Thanks. Now I know, that the message about the missing location to save is generated by Keynote. For the crash, I have no idea because this was my first crash of Keynote for long time. Normally, it is very reliable even with lengthy videos. I have even put four videos on one slide revolving and resizing all the time for about 10 minutes without any problem.
