IDML opens as "untitled" document

Hi,
When I open .idml file in InDesign, it opens as Untitled-# document. Is it possible that when I open .idml it opens as the filename instead of "Untitled-#"?
What I have is bunch of .idml files, everyday I have to open them one by one, change a few things and then save it as a new file, with the same filename, in a different folder. Of course this task cannot be automated since the changes are extremely random.

Well...no, no you can't. That is how it works.
Is there a reason you're asking in the scripting forum?
IDML is not really intended as an editing format. Since "Save" or "Save As" won't save an IDML-format file, it would be nearly meaningless to have the filename be related to the IDML filename.
You could write a script that automatically opens an IDML file and stores the original filename, and then a companion script that exports the currently opened file to that saved filename.
What are you trying to optimize for, though? Remembering the filename when it comes time to save?
I suppose you could (or have a script which does) automatically save to filename.indd after you open filename.idml. Then you might have a more sensible default for exporting.
But that seems cumbersome.
Perhaps you could tell us more about why you work in IDML as a format rather than INDD.

The only thing left is when I try to go to facebook, it instead opens an untitled document that makes it look like I am getting a Virus alert from System Security. I can go to other websites. Opening a .doc file in Pages results in Untitled document?

I've reinstalled iWork '06, along with the rest of my OS, and I've noticed something strange: if I set Pages as default to open .doc files, every time I double-click on a .doc file, Pages opens it in an Untitled document.
Of course, when it comes to saving changes, Pages asks me to save them in the Untitled, not in the original document. No matter that I exported the file in .doc in Pages in the first place, it just doesn't save it.
How come?

Before Pages 3/iWork '08, Pages opened any "foreign" document (Word, AppleWorks, text, RTF) as an untitled Pages document, just as it does a template. When you export a document, you're doing just that, not saving it. Pages "knows" you haven't saved it as a Pages document so the title doesn't change until you do save it.
Since Pages 3, a "foreign" document will have the name of the original with the .pages extension added. But the rest of the process is the same.

Indesign CC opens "untitled document" after crashing

After crashing, Indesign CC recovers the open documents in "untitled documents" instead of using the original documentnames.

That's what's supposed to happen. It's up to you if you want to overwrite the last actual saved version with one that might potentially have a problem. I always opt to do a save as to a new version name.

How do I get inDesign to quit crashing when I try to open a damaged document?

Alright, I'm in a bit of a pinch and behind on deadline because of something completely random and out of the blue happening with inDesign. Here's what happened:
I was working on a magazine layout and printed out a PDF draft. The draft looked normal. I saved, shut my computer, walked away, and came back 30 minutes later to find that 9 pages had gone almost completely blank - even the locked layers were gone. I checked the layers and they were still locked. I thought my content had gotten erased somehow. Then I looked again and saw an overseer text symbol in the middle of one of the spreads. I clicked it and was able to enlarge it somewhat. Doing this gave me the spinning color wheel of doom (I have a Mac running off of Maverick now), and every little zoom and mouse movement gave this result that lasted about 3 minutes at a time. I tried saving again (got the spinning color wheel of doom), then shut down inDesign, and tried again. Same thing happened, only this time I got an automatic recovery notice when it opened. Everything else looked normal. I noticed that the content that had been squished was actually also at a skewed angle as well, like it had been rotated at some strange 3D plane. The story board would also expand to 10 times the normal size every time I tried to move the skewed, overset content. I shut everything down again and restarted my computer. Only this time, whenever I tried to open the problematic document, it would give me the auto recovery request, then promptly crash when I clicked "Yes" for auto recover. I tried multiple times now to open the document, thinking maybe I could just wipe those pages and start over again, but it crashes every time.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I have no idea how this happened, and now it seems like I'm going to loose the entire document, about 40 hours of work. As far as I know, nobody else was near my computer in the 30 minutes it took me to shut it and open it back up again.

Can anybody shed some light onto this situation? Honestly, I'd be happy to just be able to open the document again so I can erase those problem pages and re-do them... I took screen shots of what inDesign was doing before it crashed:

You can try opening the file "as a copy" from the open dialog. You can also try the blind export to .idml: Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
and there's a tool for Windows you can try, if you have access to a windows machine: INDDRecovery — a program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents
After that, it's a question of how much money you want to throw at it. Markzware.com has a paid recovery service that will probably work.

How to delete an untitled document on Pages?

When I first downloaded Pages, I opened it to get comfortable with it. When I was done, I tried exiting the software and it prompted me to either "delete", "cancel", or "save" the document, to which I clicked "delete". You deleted the document, it doesn't exist. What you are seeing is a list of recent files opened in Pages. Go to File > Open Recent &, at the bottom of the list, is "Clear Menu." Select that & it will also clear the list in the Dock icon.

Untitled Documents Gone After Restart - Maverick Pages

Hi -
I was working on two documents a couple days ago. When I looked at my computer this morning, they were there. I shut down and took my laptop with me. When I restarted, they are gone.
I was working in the Maverick version of Pages. I believe they were untitled as they were works in progress. They do not show up under the "open recent" menu in Pages, which is odd, because I would think they would show there.
I did not have a Time Machine backup going as I did not have my backup drive connected. I have looked in Trash for Recovered Files, but for some reason, the last recovered files showing are from March 21st. I looked in Library/Autosave Information, but the last files there are months old, too.
Is there anywhere that I can find these files?? Usually, Pages saves untitled documents and reopens them when you restart - indeed, two such documents from weeks ago DID reopen.
Has anyone else had this trouble with the Maverick version of Pages?
I would so appreciate some help - they were almost completed articles that I was just about to submit. (And yes, I know I should have titled them and saved them, but I have never had this problem before - ever!)

Hmmm...I guess it WAS muscle memory, because I don't remember ever being asked to do that. That said, it's definitely entirely possible I did.
When I shut down this morning, it was a standard one. Lid was up, but I walked away to do something else. When I returned, the computer had shut down. In the past, I have had a message that popped up that stopped the shut down asking if I wanted to save this or that. There was no such message this time.
Truthfully, I think what I have done is anger the Mavericks gods. I have been saying that I really do not like Mavericks and find it a pain in the butt to have two versions of Pages/Numbers/Keynote running, and if you open something done in the former in the latter, then you can never open the document ever again in the former. The document may have been created in Mountain Lion, but it is now a Maverick.
Apparently, angering the Maverick gods means I start losing work in ways I have never lost it before. Oh, well. I will now title everything as soon as I start it and remember to save it immediately. I do a huge volume of writing and usually am working on several things at once. Sometimes I split up articles into two (as in the case in the documents I lost), and keep working on the first while the second hangs out as untitled. No more, I guess.
Honestly, I feel like I have my old PC lately...all the stuff I used to have to do with it I have to do again with Mavericks. Doesn't seem a step forward for me anyway.

Will Adobe Indesign CS6 be able to open indesign CC documents directly?

Okay, I probably know the answer based on prior experience with it being a pain to go back and forth between InDesign versions, but I have to ask:
Will InDesign CS6 users be able to open InDesign CC documents and go back and forth easily between CS6 and CC without using the IDML format as an intermediary?

Probably not. *Any* new feature in CC would make that impossible -- even though it's as little as a single new object (QR Code comes to mind; the "other" improvement, a Dark UI, cannot be transferred).
(Even if it's *technically* possible, why'd want Adobe support this? People then would not have to buy/subscribe to their new cloudy subscription scheme!)

How do I cure "untitled document"

I'm using DW CS3. I've noticed when I reduce a page, the tab
at the bottom of the screen says "untitled document."
It's a small issure but irritating nonetheless. How do I fix
this?

Do as gerrydog said. Additionally, if you want to fix
Dreamweaver so that
all new pages created have a custom title, locate this file:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver
CS3\configuration\DocumentTypes\NewDocuments
Open this file in a text editor and change the title from
Untitled Document
to anything else.
Since you are a webforum poster I cannot tell if you use
Windows or Mac so
that's the Windows path.

I opened a new document and a popup messages says; "The document could not be autosaved." Pages won't allow me to manually save or duplicate document. What's up?

I opened a new document in Pages 5.2 and a Pop up message appears; "the document could not be autosaved." First time I have seen this. Went to manually save the docement and another message appears; "the document "Untitled" could not be saved as "Project Portfolio" [my document title]. Then, Pages would not let me duplicate the document.
I suspect something may be missing and I need to reload Pages. Is there another way?

Excel service and OWA - getting ERROR while trying to open/edit Excel documents

Hi All,
We have configured SharePoint 2013 with Excel Service and OWA (Office Web Apps).
After configuring, we are able to view/edit Word or PowerPoint documents from the browser (as OWA is configured). But we are getting errors while trying to open/edit Excel documents.
We are not able to view/edit the excel workbook from the browser (through OWA).
To open the excel in the browser, decision has to be taken at the farm level on what to be used – Excel Service or OWA Server? Is it possible to do setting at site collection level?

"Firefox is already running" error while opening a Firefox Document

I am a web developer, so I decided to have different versions of Firefox in order to test my web pages.
Thus I decided to install Firefox 3.6 in "C:\Archivos de programa\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox 3.6", Firefox 4 in "C:\Archivos de programa\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox 4" and Firefox 5 in "C:\Archivos de programa\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox 5".
Moreover, each version has its own profile. In 'profiles.ini' I moved the line 'Default=1' from 'default' profile to 'Firefox 5' profile.
Since then, if Firefox has started, when I try to open a Firefox Document (like .htm or .xml) from a folder, I get "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error. But the fact is that Firefox is responding correctly. If I write the file's location in Firefox's location bar it works properly.
In the registry, the FirefoxHTML's open command is "C:\Archivos de programa\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox 5\firefox.exe" -requestPending -osint -url "%1". Is it rigth?

I don't have much difficulty with this problem. It's more of an annoyance.

What I'll do is log in to a page that requires a secure connection, and when I'm finished, to complete the security, I always close the browser. Then, of course, I start the browser up again.
The problem is, ''Firefox is still shutting down'', and issues this error. Most of the time, I can wait 10 seconds, then start up fine.

When I open a pdf document from my dropbox to view it, the document shows up blank, even though it is filled out. This also happened with pdf documents that have been e-mailed to me.

When I open emails with PDFs I click on the attachment (doing this all on my iPad) it gives me the option to "open in iBooks", I accept then after that the document is sucked into my iPad but I can't do anything with the PDF after that. Where is the actual file on my iPad? Why can't I email or send these PDFs to my cloud (Dropbox)?
It's like once they go into iBooks they're stuck forever.

Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.
