Hi,
Can anybody give me a detailed information in all the possible hardware that is used for IDS and IPS technologies till date.

Cisco 830, 1700, 1800, 2600, 2800, 3700, 3800, and 7200 Series Routers are supported by IPS.

Here are the definitions from IPS 5.1 guide.
Understanding Promiscuous Mode (IDS)
In promiscuous mode, packets do not flow through the sensor. The sensor analyzes a copy of the monitored traffic rather than the actual forwarded packet. The advantage of operating in promiscuous mode is that the sensor does not affect the packet flow with the forwarded traffic. The disadvantage of operating in promiscuous mode, however, is the sensor cannot stop malicious traffic from reaching its intended target for certain types of attacks, such as atomic attacks (single-packet attacks). The response actions implemented by promiscuous sensor devices are post-event responses and often require assistance from other networking devices, for example, routers and firewalls, to respond to an attack. While such response actions can prevent some classes of attacks, in atomic attacks the single packet has the chance of reaching the target system before the promiscuous-based sensor can apply an ACL modification on a managed device (such as a firewall, switch, or router).
Understanding Inline Interface Mode (IPS)
Operating in inline interface mode puts the IPS directly into the traffic flow and affects packet-forwarding rates making them slower by adding latency. This allows the sensor to stop attacks by dropping malicious traffic before it reaches the intended target, thus providing a protective service. Not only is the inline device processing information on layers 3 and 4, but it is also analyzing the contents and payload of the packets for more sophisticated embedded attacks (layers 3 to 7). This deeper analysis lets the system identify and stop and/or block attacks that would normally pass through a traditional firewall device.
In inline interface mode, a packet comes in through the first interface of the pair on the sensor and out the second interface of the pair. The packet is sent to the second interface of the pair unless that packet is being denied or modified by a signature.

Placing IDS and IPS

Hi,
Kindly brief about placement of NIDS in a bank network scenario and IPS placement also...

You didn't get an answer because the question is too vague. I think that banks have different requirements depending on their size. As I recall, there can be different regulatory bodies involved (OTS vs OCC) based on size.
I would say at a minimum you should have IDS/IPS at all perimeter points. A bank should probably also have some sort of IDS/IPS protecting servers (Network and/or Host based).

You are only running on 2GB of RAM. IMHO 4GB woud be the minimum to realistically run Mavericks on, although the more the better.

Getting hardware information

Can anybody help me out if i need to know how to get the hardware informations? and also that if i need to know if there is any network card present in the system or not and if it is present then what is the MAC address of that network card? Also, if it is possible to know how many processors are present and to get the processor ids from each processor, and how much RAM is present? I would appreciate if someone can help me out in this that what API and what procedure i have to follow? and if any working example can be available it is much appreciated, thanks

This sort of question is asked. time and time again.
You can't access detailed hardware specific information, without writing native C++ code and calling it via JNI...
some things you can do, in Java are
1.call java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost() to get the pc's IP address
2. processors... I saw some Java environment variables that might give this...
On WinNT there's an environement variable NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS
pass this to java via
java -DprocNum=%NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS%
then use
System procNumStr = System.getProperty ( "procNum" );
3. RAM - no, Runtime.totalMemory() only gives the maximum heap space allocated to Java.

Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem

Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

That is a LOT of log-in items for a compute with 4GB RAM. Some are hard to avoid but Excel is a big program that can be easily launched from the Dock. I don't know what "Inspiration 8" is but likely the same advice will apply.

How to detect the OS version and the hardware info??

Hi all, according to the project needs, I to know how to detect OS version and the hardware info.
The point is to detect client's OS version, weather Win98, 2000, XP, Vista.
I have been search the information for several days already.
But can not really found a example which returns the OS version like"Windows XP Version 2002 *****".
And also could not find the CPU type such as"Core 2 due, or pentium D".
Is there anyone have done this before?

Well, in fact I have the VI and also read the topics as well...... The searching tag is OS info , system info......... After reading your post, now I understand the relation between the version number and the real OS version now, tks. And another problem is, the processor type returned within the VI have only 4 type:"INTEL 386, INTEL 486, PENTIUM, Unknown".
It can not really return my CPU TYPE. For example the desktop I’m using now is a Pentium, D , 2.80G, 2.80G.. and it only returns type "Pentium". That's why I'm asking is there any other way to do this...... (( Please forgive me if you can not really know what I'm talking about in my first post, now I know how bad my english is....... )) I guess I can only try to find out the solution from the registry then... How to associate hardware information into an Oracle Table?

Hi,
I am new on Windows 2000 .
I am using the following script in order to get the windows 2000
hardware information.
I am using 8.1.7 version of ORACLE.
I am using a table "Server Hardware"(Server list,Network Adapter,RAM).
I would like to ask that how should or where should I use this script
in order to associate its information into my table "Server Hardware".
Could someone give me hints that how to use this script?

Actually, I am not using Recovery Catalog, so the views like RC_database, Rc_tablespaces etc , which are specific to recovery catalog are not available.
r.- this make sense at 100% because those views belong to the recovery catalog.
So, I wanted that these information, which we can get via using the commands like above, transfer into an Oracle table
r.- If you want to access the views of the Recovery Catalog to store part of that information in tables you have to have the database registered in a Recovery Catalog.
Should we keep the Recovery Catalog in Control file? Instead of using separate Schema.
r.- I recommend you to create a catalog for your database because the space the controlfile to store information regarding RMAN is reused and you can lose important information about your backups.
Can we run Catrman.sql script as a sys in order to keep the recovery catalog in sys schema?
r.- As you know, this is not recommended at all.
Conclusion : Create a Recovery Catalog and you will be able to perform all that you want regardind what you mentioned above.

I am working on a similar project.
Actually, i can encode 2 streams in h.264 with a resolution around 640X480 on a Intel Xeon E3120 (2 core) 3.16 GHZ configuration.
OS is a windows XP 32 bits. CPU usage is around 75%.
(note: FMLE instances are run with FMLEcmd not GUI mode)
Does someone know if i can gain performance with windows XP 64bits ?
My goal is to encode 4 streams on a single machine, does someone know if a dual CPU, let's say 2 X (4 core) Xeon, is enough ?
I don't know if FMLE support multiple processor with multiple core configuration.

Unable to obtain hardware information

I am trying to convert a VM from ESXi Free v5.5 using the Standalone Converter and getting the error: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine.
I have tried running the converter with elevated admin privileges and that didn't work. The strange thing is I have done this before and it worked so I'm not sure what's changed on this ESXi server.
I have two VM's. One is Red Hat and the other is Microsoft 2012 Server and both give me the same error. I also tried v5.5 and v6 of the converter.
I can connect to the ESXi server with the vSphere client.

The Early Watch report lists these because of the large number of rows in the MD/Dim tables. Keep in mind though, that Number Range buffering will really only help if you continue to generate a large volume of new SIDs or Dim IDs with ongoing loads, e.g.
If your transactions being loaded to a cube result in several thousand new rows being added a Dim table, then it makes sense to turn on Number Range buffering for that Dim ID. But if the transaction volume is only cause a few hundred DIM IDs to be added, buffering will not really get you anything.

If the following is your problem try the troubleshooting described within:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
Frequently it is due to hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
If that is not your problem then we need more information about hur problem. How do you know the"hardware" is missing?
