I'm using SOAP to run InDesign CS3 Server scripts, and I found TestClient doesn't work with option "-server". When I want to run a file on the server machine, it always returns an error number 44 to me.
My same tests on InDesign CS2 Server work fine, so I think it maybe a bug of InDesign CS3 server.
Anybody also working on InDesign CS3 Server? Thanks very much!

I am using InDesign CS3 Server and testclient.
I can use -server parameter with testclient, it works fine.
I don't know why you cannot.

InDesign CS3 placed inside another InDesign CS3

I have an InDesign file placed inside another and one of the picture doesn't print or export properly.
It's not the first time it's happened, nut usually the problem seems to occur with a complex PSD file placed in the 1st document.
This time the file is simple, but it's in multiply mode in the 1st InDesign document.
Any idea how to fix this?

I just tried to reproduce the image problem with PSD in ID in ID to show you screenshots but now everything seems to be working correctly (I had some files from last month that were causing a problem but now they're not). I'll just have to wait for it to happen again.
As for the place ID into ID causing a crash, I figured this isn't a widespread quirk, but several others in my office have this issue, although one colleague does not. We're all using the same workflow, the same hardware/software/fonts (OS 10.5.8; CS3 5.0.4), etc.
ID crashes the first time I place an ID file into an ID file, whether by file>place or drag-and-drop. Doesn't matter if the files are local or on a server. It also happens when the placed ID file has changes that causes the "container file" to be updated (the relinking causes the crash). If I quit ID before doing any of these operations, so that the place/relink is one of the first operations that I do, then the program doesn't crash. If I've been working for a little while then place/relink, that's when I get the crash.
Any thoughts?

InDesign CS3 incompatible with XP SP3, which will soon be an automatic update

A couple of months ago, after I had instability problems, I was advised by Adobe Support that Windows XP Service Pack 3, which I had installed, was not recommended for use with InDesign CS3. I am advised today that this is still the case.
This is now a critical situation for the many people who use Indesign CS3 with Windows XP. ComputerWorld reports this week that Microsoft has said that the SP3 upgrade will "shortly" no longer be optional, but will be forced on people as an automatic update.
I discussed this with Adobe Support today and was advised that I could turn off automatic Microsoft updates via the XP control panel. Well I knew that, but it is not a good option because it will turn off automatic updates of other important elements, such as security fixes.
This is a most unsatisfactory situation and Adobe has had plenty of time to sort it out. We need to know when a patch will be available and there should also be a system whereby Adobe can advise XP users when the patch comes available. And Adobe needs to get it's act together urgently, to produce the fix.

Matthew - if you see no problem with the XP SP3/Indesign CS3 combination, why don't you tell your phone support people?
When I had my original problems, a large book design file was continually freezing. When I rang support (Asia-Pacific), I was told unequivocally that CS3 should not be used with XP SP3.
I rolled back my service pack upgrade and still had problems, so the problem may well have been some corruption that had entered my InDesign file.
However, with that book awkwardly cobbled together and out of the way, last week I rang Adobe support again, to see if any of the recent CS3 updates had made InDesign CS3 compatible with SP3 and again was told it wasn't. Their documentation said it was OK with XP SP2 and Vista, but not SP3.
This needs to be properly sorted out.

InDesign CS3 as a default version on a desktop

Is there a way to set InDesign CS3 to be the default version that will launch when CS2 and CS4 are also installed? We have clients who only work in CS2 and/or CS3, and need to maintain file compatibility with them. We would also like to upgrade to CS4; already purchased, but installation has been put off until we can resolve this issue. Saving CS4 files as .inx for CS3 compatibility is not an option for us, as this is not proven to be 100% error-free. Any suggestions?

Soxy is much better than 'Open With...' - it analyzes the double-clicked file, and opens it in the correct version (and you can decide what the correct version is). Simply double-click any InDesign CSx document, and Soxy will decide which of your installed versions is the best match.
So if you have CS3 and CS4 installed, and you double-click a CS2 document, by default, Soxy will open that file with InDesign CS3 (as you don't have CS2 installed) - by default it picks the 'nearest higher' version. Double-click a CS3 doc -> opens in InDesign CS3. Double-click a CS4 doc -> opens in InDesign CS4. And so on - and a similar deal for Illy or PDF files.

Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT

Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?

How to restore broken links after server migration in Indesign CS3???

Hi All,
I have used my google skills to no avail and everything I have read here has been a dead end for me. I can't be the only person in this situation, so hopefully someone can help!
My marketing department has reached the storage limits of our shared network drive. Located on this drive is our (HUGE) image library which acts as a single central respository serving up our indesign links (read here: we don't package files - to conserve space). We have decided that in an effort to create a true archive and have more space for our image library we need to migrate the library to a new 16 terabit Drobo (yay!).
The problem is that every INDD file that links to the current library will now suffer from broken links. We literally have hundreds of INDD files and thousands of links. The good news is...the file structure isn't changing at all! Just the server location is changing. Is there any way to to a batch update of the links that tells INDD to look for the exact same file path on a different drive?
In short:
current image library (old server): marketing/image library/photos/products/multiple product folders
new image library (new server): drobo/image library/photos/products/multiple product folders
I want to point InDesign to the new server and have it pick up the file path without having to navigate to each and every file individually. Voila!
Is this even possible? Is there any 3rd party software to help? Other architechture solutions that might be suggested?

You can just copy a part of the path in Links panel and paste it to the script's dialog. In CS4, make sure to choose "Copy Platform Style Path" in context menu.
The case of the characters doesn’t matter: you can type both in upper and lowercase in the script's dialog. For example — Test, test, TEST, TeSt — are all the same for the script.

InDesign CS3 Server - Enterprise Solution Options

Does InDesign CS3 Server offer an option to run several, separate instances on multiple, dedicated servers - each configured with an unique IP & port number?
Basically - has InDesign CS3 Server built-in capabilities (mode/configuration options) to distribute and handle server requests to multiple server nodes (external, physical boxes)?

There is currently no built-in support for distributing server requests across multiple server nodes.

InDesign CS3 will not open double-clicked files on server (10.5)

I've got an odd one here. I have two new 10.6 machines running InDesign CS3, and a simple file server running 10.5.6.
When we open an InDesign file on the server using the "File Open" dialog box, the files open fine. If we navigate to a folder on server from the Finder and try to double-click on the file, it will launch ID if not open, but not open the file. It looks like it would open, but does not.
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening? It would sure be easier for the kids to open files that way.

I have this issue also. InDesign [CS4] begins to start up, the "initializing..." label appears, then it immediately quits. Started after I had to revert back to 10.7.3 from 10.7.4 due to frequent and incessant kernel panics in 7.4. I tried uninstalling all CS4 apps (using the CS4 uninstall tool), then ran Adobe Cleaner Tool, then did a clean install of CS4 (Design Premium), including a fresh input of the serial number. All other CS4 apps open normally.
Interestingly, upon your suggestion, I created a new user account, then tried to open InDesign there. It opened normally, so at least I can use it in the "Test Account" I created. Any suggestions on how to get it to work in my account?

I would guess you'll need to contact customer service. CS3 products are no longer posted as demo downloads. InDesign server is a licensed product, and presumably if you bought the license you were given media or a link at that time. If you've lost that, Customer service would be th only ones who can help.

How to download InDesign CS3 Debug (non-Server version)

I have downloaded and installed the InDesign CS3 SDK and can generate a Release build of a plug-in and get it to load and work in InDesign CS3, but as indicated in the doc, building the Debug configuration of a plug-in and trying to get it to work in the Release version of InDesign CS3 does not work. So, of course, I want to download and install InDesign CS3 Debug so that I can load and run the Debug configuration of plug-ins. But I cannot find a way to download InDesign CS3 Debug anywhere. I find a link for downloading InDesign CS3 Server Debug but not InDesign CS3 Debug (non-server version).
Can someone point me to the InDesign CS3 Debug download?

Upgrade from Indesign CS3 to Indesign CS5 server

Hi,
I have been looking on adobe site to check if I can have an upgrade from Indesign CS3 to Indesign CS5 server. I have Indesign CS3 license but need to migrate to Indesign CS5 server. Does anybody know whether it is possible to buy upgrade from Indesign CS3 to Indesign CS5 server. Or will I have to buy new license for Indesign CS5 server. Any help on this is appriciated. Thanks.

I have been using Indesign CS3 for generating automated reports. These reports are large in numbers. Limitation with Indesign CS3 is it only allows single instance of the application. And hence I am forced to generate these reports in sequence using multiple servers. Indesign CS5 server on the other hand seems to allow multiple instances running at the same time. This would mean I can generate multiple reports at the same time. This will reduce time to generate these reports and also limit the number of servers. This is the reason I want to migrate from Indesign CS3 to Indesign CS5 server. However, I am not sure if I can get direct upgrade from Indesign CS3 to Indesign CS5 server or I have to buy new license for Indesign CS5 server. Do you have any idea on this, please suggest. Indesign CS3 & 10.6.2 server: file corruption

Hi All,
I'm having problems with one of our customer's setup. They're experiencing some sort of file corruption on Indesign CS3 files. These files are worked on by students in classrooms. At random, files won't open anymore in Indesign CS3 (or in CS4),so they need to start all over again. At first, file corruption occured seldom, but in the last few days I get too many reports. So I definately think something is at hand here.
The students log in to their network home folders. Client and server(s) are mac os x 10.6.2.
Clients / servers are fresh installed last x-mas. 2 fileservers (1 classroom, 1 homedirectory), 1 dedicated od server, 700 students, 45 classes. Both fileservers are new iron.
Before this, I had the same setup in 10.4.11, and this worked flawlessly for almost two years. So I know I can work with this setup over a network.
Before I start suspecting (and swapping) hardware, does anyone have pointers where to look or tests I could do?

Well, going back to 10.4 is not an option. The previous servers (PPC G5 xserves) running the 10.4 setup have been sold. Current hardware was delivered with only 10.6 software so that rules out switching back to 10.5 as well.
You mention ACL's. I could dive into that. Since 10.5 Apple introduced default ACL's for the spotlight indexing process. The share is rather simple, it uses mainly posix permissions because it contains the homedirectories. In that perspective, the only change (besides a new afp stack) is the spotlight ACL. I could remove it, spotlight isn't running on that share.
I don't think I can switch to SMB for the user homedir stuff. If it was a normal data share it wouldn't be a problem.

Problem in running Indesign CS3 Server..............

I Have windows server 2003 Ent. Edition. with sp2. & Dot net 2.0.i have installed Indesign CS3 Server & its installed completely but when i run indesignserver.exe it shows error that "indesign server not configured properly".& if i start indesign server service this shows error ...."indesign server service not run on Local computer"......
then i found that indesign server service needs Dot Net 2.0 SP1 so i haev installed that too but the same problem found.
plzz help me out to run indesign server. i need this as soon as possible.....

As you know CORBA is all about distributed architectures. So your approach should work. We put the notes in the documentation because we did not test the configuration you are using. Though there shouldn't be any problems, we just didn't feel comfortable claiming support for this configuration without testing against it.

How to run Indesign CS3 as a Service with Port number

Hello all,
I would like to run the InDesign CS3 Server as a service on Windows. It seems that after installing the Server it automatically installs as a service. But where can I assign the port number. If under Services properties of InDesign Server under Parameters I mention -port 1050 on Ok button it removes the parameter information.
I am doing right or is there some other way to start the Server as Service with Port number.

I tried to start the service with a huge range of users having all imaginable privileges. The common way of using either "LocalService" or the Local System Account (which has admin rights for me) doesn't do the job.
