i need to develope a IDS tool which monitors a website. how can i get the client's IP, for all requests, being a third party without modifying the server side coding.

I know this probally isnt the place to post a new discussion about Snort but I tried on snorts site and im getting no answers. I'm trying to setup a Snort IDS machine, my question is I've noticed how open Solaris 10 is with a default installation. I need to know how should I install Snort on Solaris 10? Should I do a core install? Is it wise to do a core install to have it minimal and then to build up the system to how I need it? Are core installations best just as long as I know what im doing? Advantages? Disavantages?I'm wondering what job you would have Snort do exactly ? In many cases the IDS tools which are shipped with Solaris itself (Bart and ASet come to mind for starters) can give you a very good basis for setting something like this up.

When it comes to filtering data coming onto the server then I wonder if this would really be a good setup for security, or merely another risk when it comes to starting a potential threat since you're basicly adding a services which might be vulnerable for a DoS overflow itself. If you add the privileges which the process needs in order to do its job I can't help wonder if you're not better off by simply setting up a firewall in the old fashioned "block all, allow some" scheme. This is likely to block a lot of potential risks. -
How to start Designer from Linux
I have 902 iDS (not full installation) installed in /home/Oracle.
And I have 9.2 Oracle server in another Linux host.
What should I add in my .bashrc to my classpath and ld_library_path env variable to run iDS?
My /usr/bin/java is 1.4 version.
I don't find sqlplus so what should I use to manage 9.2 server?

Designer doesn't run on Linux, only on Windows (and probably won't be ported - apologies). To run other Oracle tools like Sql*Plus you need to add $ORACLE_HOME/bin to your PATH, after ensuring the ORACLE_HOME is set correctly. You should then be able to just run sqlplus from a terminal (e.g Konsole). To run JDeveloper you should also add <path to jdev>/jdev/bin to your PATH then type jdev or jdevw at the command prompt. It works on mine. I don't have a linux install of other iDS tools so can't say much about them.

Palm OS Developer Suite and 9i lite
It seems that the only way to develop 9i lite applications for Palm devices is with Codewarrior. Is that the case? The libraries in ORACLE_HOME/Mobile/Sdk/palm/sdk/lib are not recognized by Palm OS Developer Suite.

You should install 9iDS in a separate ORACLE_HOME. The iDS tools access the database using JDBC or SQLNet, so it is fine to change the ORACLE_HOME (which is why you can connect to any database on any machine, even if your ORACLE_HOME is not set). A common practice is to create a shell script for the database, and a shell script for iDS. That way when you want to work on the database, you can easily switch the homes. Take a look at Note 101723.1 on metalink.oracle.com for an example.

I have installed 9i 9.2.0.1.0 on my Redhat 7.3 box and now want to install Developer Suite 9.0.2.0.0 on the same machine. The installation instructions state that the Developer Suite needs to be installed as user 'oracle' in group 'oinstall' (same as 9i) and requires a different ORACLE_HOME.
I seem to be missing something here. How can you set ORACLE_HOME to a different value for the same user? If I change it to install the Developer Suite, will I still be able to access the database?
After much ado getting the database installed, I figure I better ask before trying something that may mess up the database installation.

On bookmarks, there are several methods to import. You can export to an HTML file and store that outside of the Mozilla folders (e.g., in your Documents folder) or you can copy the bookmark backups folder.
Before making changes, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Finally, rather than uninstall/reinstall, you could create a new Firefox profile. It will look as though you just installed Firefox, and then you can copy important settings to the new profile at your leisure.

Office Deployment Tool Config for 2013 Pro Plus

I'm trying to update an installation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 and wonder if somebody could help me with the correct Product ID to use for the Office Deployment Tool configuration.xml file? Almost all the examples seem to
use O365ProPlusRetail.

Microsoft have used some rather confusing product marketing terms, which makes it hard to get clear, and also to be clear, when it comes to this release of Office :(
Office 2013ProfessionalPlus - installation uses the classic setup.exe + MSI engine. Can be updated via WSUS.
Office365ProPlus - installation uses the new ODT, and results in C2R virtualized "installation". Can't be updated via WSUS.
So, if you're using the ODT, then you're not using Office2013ProfessionalPlus..

Error during DatabaseCopy using SAP tools for SQL Server (v7.12)
I'm trying to perform a system copy from PRD to QAS. The database has been mounted to QAS via detach and attach method. I did a DBCC on the database and everything looks OK. I'm running SAPINST (SAP Tools for MSSQL) and selecting the Database Copy option. The source database has a schema of DBO. Both PRD and QAS are running SAP 4.7/Basis 620. The target schema is QAS. SAPINST fails in step 2 (Define Params) with:
"This service cannot be used for a system with SAP ABAP release 620"
Is this message misleading? Has anyone receive this message before.
UPDATE:
I donwloaded the latest version of SAP Tools for MSSQL and now it failes during the execution phase on step, "Convert DB objects to new schema".

Are there any application code-reading tools available?
Since my query about BugHunter went unanswered, I thought I'd try again from a different angle. I need a tool that shows code associated with a screen, button, or command in the application when you use F1 or the CSH "?" on the screen/button/command. Instead of generating map IDs in the Help and passing them to the developer, we get the map ID number generated in the code and add it to the Help. I need something that shows the code for each specific app item to check the accuracy of these numbers. (The WinHelp BugHunter did that, but for some reason the HTML Help BugHunter does not.) Does anyone have experience with such a tool?

Where Can I Find a Complete Reference for ASA 5505 Product IDs?
I've spent way too much time exploring the Internet looking for a definitive reference to pin down and completely explain all of the Cisco product ID mumbo jumbo . . . specifically for the ASA 5505 security device. In general I'd like to have this information for all things Cisco. It is driving me crazy not to know this information IN TOTAL. Yes, there's bits and pieces out there, but no offical guide or reference that details everything. This is what I want to see.
For example: for the ASA5505 there's . . . ASA5505-50-BUN-K9, ASA5505-SEC-BUN-K9, ASA5505-UL-BUN-K9, etc.
What is the "BUN", "K9", "SEC", etc. Not just what does it stand for (we can deduce that), but where did this come from and how can I quickly reference a new acronym which may show up in completely differnce Cisco device. Also, specifically for the ASA 5500 line, I want to see a COMPLETE list of ALL of these IDs and want a legend to reference each part. This is critical in my opinion for a project manager to make an informed decision about hardware. Cisco documentation is grossly lacking for this (or at least I'm unable to find it). The closest I've come was to discovery this whole notion of the Unique Device Identifier (UDI) which is the Cisco' product identification standard for labeling hardware products.

It's a good start but, it only creates more questions. Where can I find ALL the PIDs and what does each acronym stands for? What about the VIDs? . . . Where is a list of these what does each section mean?. Why in the world is there no single source where all of this is pinned down. With all of the mind-numbing Cisco documentation out there loaded with cryptic details about things many of us will never care to know . . . why not put out this much needed, practical reference of Product IDs which would have a wide appeal and could be useful to everyone from product specialist to system engineers? It would make researching Cisco solutions to new projects exponentially less painful to know very quickly exactly what we're looking at when we encounter all of this product "code."
Am I the only one who feels this way? I'm thinking not. What say you? Am I missing something?
LTThere is no such published reference guide. The closest thing would be the global price list but it's generally not distributed. (What Jouni mentioned was probably an extract of that very large document.)
Due to the broad range of products (and associated bundles and services), Cisco uses online configuration and ordering tools (Cisco Commerce Workspace or CCW) internally and with its partners. The information in it is very dynamic and can change day to day as the tens of thousands of products Cisco offers are introduced, deprecated (i.e., Approaching or at End of Sales), offered in different promotional bundles, etc.
When a Cisco salesperson or partner solution advisor talks with a customer, they take the customer's input and build equipment, software and services configuration sets supporting the proposal. CCW will validate the required items are ordered and generate a configuration set that has not only the product IDs (PIDs, generally referred to as SKUs or Stock Keeping Units in this context) but also the plain language descriptions of what each PID means.
They should be conveying that information to you (or any customer they are engaged with) to enable you to make the informed decision you mention. -

How to clear all eventcombMT lockout tool settings?
We have an eventcombt user that cannot get any results returned when running the tool from their workstation after a name and Windows account change. It works for other accounts with the same security memberships.
We need to clear all the saved eventcmbmt settings out of a user's profile so all remembered settings and credentials are cleared as if the user is using the tool for the first time on a brand new PC
Are there settings stored in the registry and appdata?You can clear the search using "Clear search". Registry is not the storing area (except explicit credentials). Not even the app data.
I believe cache is in DLL. Captured by Procmon.

Maybe there is another problem then.
The user is logged in as a different user and using Runas "different user" to run eventcombmt as a domain administrator user, selecting the built in search for account lockouts, then substituting those old event IDs that it puts in by default for
event 4740. Then entering the user ID we are checking for lockout in the text field.
When the user runs the query on his workstation, it finishes instantly and shows no results. I don't see any error displayed to see why it is not working.
I can run the same query using "runas administrator" for UAC prompt (add domain admin account as admin credentials) enter the same info and it runs the query fine for me on a different computer and the account I use has the same group memberships
as the account the other user used.
Does evencombmt log errors somewhere to tell you why a search fails to run?
Is there a more modern tool available that will show the same lockout information (display source of lockout, not just tell you the date and time the account was locked out)? -
IDS in a Virtualized Environment
Can anyone elaborate on an IDS solution for a virtualized environment?
I have blade servers running ESX/ESXi - heavily virtualized environment. Im using blade switches as chassis I/O - no pass throughs.
The requirement is to run an IDS service such that VM-to-VM traffic is monitored. The traffic flow can be between two VMs on the same blade, 2 VMs on two separate blades in the same chassis, or two VMs on two separate chasses...
In that case, I see 3 traffic flows off the bat...
same blade: vm-to-vm traffic is switched by a hypervisor switch (1000v or vmware vDS).
different blades in same chassis: vm-to-vm traffic will leave blade and be switched by chassis hardware switch (chassis I/O blade).
different chassis: vm-to-vm traffic will have to go to ToR (maybe even end-of-row).
NOTE: if VMs are on different VLANs, traffic will always go to end-of-row/agg switches (the L3/L2 boundary).
So given all those possible flows, what is the best way to go about deploying an IDS service? Placement? Virtual or physical? etc....

Cisco does not have any VM based sensors (unlike Sourcefire, and maybe some other vendors).
It appears that you can not configure a virtual switch to span traffic externally. However you CAN set up a VMware host to promiscuously receive a copy of all traffic on the vswitch.
I read about this solution that might help, but I've never tired it:
