IDVD '06 Sees Old iMovie Projects But Not New Ones

I have found that iDVD '06 will let you do something really neat, that ended up in me discovering something really dumb.
First, if you want to add a folder with media in it to the Media section of iDVD, you can literally just drag/drop the folder there and POOF it shows up and your media shows up.
BUT... Ugh.
iDVD '06 does NOT see iMovie '06 project files. So, if you have a folder with iMovie '05 projects in it and iMovie '06 projects in it, and you drag that folder into the "Media" section of iLife '06, the '05 projects show and the '06 projects don't.
And this all came up because of another issues in iMovie '06 (posted about over here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=421159&tstart=0 ) in which iMovie '06 doesn't actually delete video in cropped videos, discovered because I no longer can see video snips of a current iMovie project in iDVD (I used to see just enough to use in the menus, which was fine).
So, this sounds really weird to me. iDVD '06 can't see iMovie '06 project files? That can't be right, can it?

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

Syncing itouch gives me old (lost) calendar but not recent one - ???

I'm baffeled.
A little while ago I had to do a complete restore because they had to replace my harddisk. I did not manage to find my old calendar after the restore. Ical opened empty. I didn't worry too much about it, as there weren't that many events on it anyways. I just started a new calendar. (Yep, I don't have a very high-fly lifestyle... )
Today when I synced the itouch with Ical for the first time, the calendars that showed up on the itouch where all the old ones, not the new ones.
I looked at ....Library/Calendars/... and there are two calendars in it - the new ones. I have no idea where the old ones are hiding. I looked into ...Library/Application Support/.... but there is no Folder for Calendars or Ical.
I seached with Find File for .ics files but it only brings back the new calendars.
I would like to find the old calendar files, so that I can import them (there are some birthdays on there...). And I would like itunes to sync with the new calendars since that's what's relevant now.
Thoughts??

Can I copy iPhotos from an existing iMovie Project to a new one?

Hi---I have iPhotos in an existing iMovie project (currently iMovie 11 version). For some reason, I cant seem to find them in my iPhoto library. But I want to use those photos in a new iMovie 11 project. I can highlight the photos and it allows me to click "Copy", but when I go to my new project to hit paste, they just don't show up. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I really want to use these photos in my new project, but can't seem to figure out how to use them again. Thanks, Todd

Hi Todd,
It appears that your photos have been converted to video - hence the DV file extension. There are 3 things I can think of that may help.
Firstly, play the movie project full screen. Use the slider to locate the first image you want. While paused in that position, use the key combination Command>Shift>4 - a cross hair cursor will appear. Click and drag this diagonally across the image - as you release the mouse button (or track pad) the image will be saved to your Desktop.
The second option (and probably better) is to use MPEG Streamclip to extract stills from the video. It's available as a free download from the developer here:

Drag the the first video clip containing the still you want onto MPEG Streamclip's interface. Navigate to the exact frame, then from the menu select File>Export Frame - you can choose between JPEG, TIFF and PNG.
Another option is to duplicate the iMovie project then delete everything but the images you want from the duplicate. Rename the duplicate and use that as your starting point for your new project. To duplicate, while in Project Library view (not Edit view), click on the project then select File>Duplicate Project from the menu.

Yesterday I updated logic pro and my IK Multimedia ARC system has disappeared from the plug in drop down window, how can I get it back, it appears on old files but not new ones

yesterday I updated logic pro, I have just discovered that my IK Multimedia ARC system has disappeared from the plug in drop down window, can anyone advise how I can get it back. It seems that old logic files where it was previously loaded still have the plug in live, but on a new project file it simply isn't there to select and activate.

Not sure about your issue. What did you update from and to? Is ARC still in the plugins/components folder?
I'm an ARC user too. I have it plugged in to Audio Hijack Pro which is set to hijack audio from Logic. This way ARC is after logic and you don't have to remember to bypass the plugin before you bounce.

Your information is very vague, and incomplete.
I assume you created a new acivity type, and not an old one? Where did you assign it? KP26, KP06, C203?
Did you recalculate your plan activity prices? KSPI. Download new qties? KSPP....

I have a new laptop.I can get my old imported emails but not new emails. where do i go to find them.

I used to have Outlook on my old laptop. I have a new laptop and have installed Mozilla Thunderbird for my emails. My IT friend put all my emails from my old laptop onto a memory stick and then imported them onto my new laptop with your Mozilla Thunderbird. I'd assume your Outlook email messages now appear underneath the 'Local Folders' account in Thunderbird. Is that correct?

First generation iPhone connects to old G4 MBP, but not new unibody

I'm able to connect and pair to my old MBP G4. However, I can't get my unibody MBP to recognize, connect, or pair with my iPhone now. I've trashed my bluetooth plist, check to make sure Bluetooth sharing is on, checked it on the iPhone, and nothing! Please advise. Thanks!

You should be able to use the Remote App with both, provided you set it up. Make sure the new MBP and the iPhone are connected to the +same Wi-Fi network+. On the MBP, in iTunes, make sure iTunes menu > Preferences > Devices tab has the Look for iPhone and iPod Touch Remotes checked. Then launch the Remote app on the iPhone and tap Settings > Add Library. You should see the iPhone appear in the devices list on the left in iTunes, click on the little icon under it (the one that looks like the Remote app's icon), and enter the passcode shown on the iPhone.

IPhoto opens older pictures but not newer ones?

Can someone possibly help me with my problem. Somehow I've ended up with two iphoto applications. I don't know how this happened b/c I always thought I just had one iphoto application. In any event, out of the blue on Sunday when I clicked my iphoto icon the window opened up but the wheel with the white spokes just kept spinning around without showing my photos. I went online and it said to go into package contents and move the iphoto.lock or something like that to the desktop and then all of a sudden I found an application called iphoto (original) and that opened photos from 2008 to 2011. I then noticed there were two iphoto libraries listed under documents. One was called iPhoto Library (Original) and the other was called iPhoto Library. Even though I am unable to get iPhoto Library to open, when I look into it I can see thumbnails of my photographs downloaded from 2011 to present. Can someone help me open my iPhoto Library?

To find the version number of the iPhoto versions,
open the "Applications" folder.
Click the column view icon in the toolbar.
Scroll down to iPhoto. The version number is brow the iPhoto icon.
To find the version number of your MacOS X, click the Apple  in the upper left corner of the main menu bar. Select "About this Mac" from the drop down menu. It will show you the version number in the "About" panel.

Transfered DVD ( via Handbrake ) to Aperture folder. Was able to transfer still photos to iMovie project but DVD project ( in same folder would not transfer. What is correct procedure?

Old iMovie projects have purple background!!!

This is a strange one...
I recently upgraded from iMovie 4.01 to iMivie HD 6.03.
I opened an old project from mu 4.01 version, and although all the data and edits are correct and identical, all the color is wrong. There is no moving video in this old iMovie, just photo's with transitions and heavy effects editing. Everything that is supposed to be black, even the background, is now a horrible purple and the images in my movie have this discoloration consistantly. Even without playback, the iMovie window is purple and not black. With new projects everything is fine, but this color issue seems only related to opening OLD iMovie projects. I looked in preferences for an option, but thereseemed to be no logical solution. Please help!

Others have reported this problem too, with a variety
of colors.
I believe it helped when they changed their iMovie
playback preferences. The Quality setting.

Thankyou. That helped. Everthing looks normal, as it should. strange bug though, I dont understand how this could occur... weird. I just hope my output now looks normal as well, as when I 'Bounced' to Mpeg with the quality setting fo rplayback at 'highest', it was purple throughout the subsiquent movie file. Now, it saves as normal, but I wonder exactly what the 'Quality' preference really does???

Opening old iMovie projects in new iMovie HD

I have a few old iMovie projects from around 2001/2002 on an external hard disk. If I try to open them, they won't open in iMovie. Instead it would give a "Parse Error". The folder looks something like this:
Is there a way I can open these projects? I can open the single clips by adding .dv as an extension, but then I'd have to rearrange/remix everything again which I don't want to do.

It seems as your external disk is not Mac-formatted (Mac OS Extended), but PC-formatted (FAT32).
First copy your files over to a disk that is Mac-formatted (Mac OS Extended).

Problem old iMovie project to iMovieHD

I upgraded to iMovieHD ages ago, and today decided to send an iMovie Project I created in old iMovie to DV tape. When I opened the project it asked to convert it to iMovieHD, when it did that playing the project was very jerky. I set it streaming to tape and the DV result is very jerky then stops.
Is this a none problem with old iMovie project, is there and work around?

update:
1. I ran Mac Sweeper: played okay in iMovie but still jerky/stopping sharing to DV tape
2. I moved project from External Firewire drive to HD (I have previously made loads of iDVD's and DV tapes with project on external Firewire Drives: same results as 1.
3. Made loads more space on HD, disconnected Firewire and USB external drives and disabled Airport, ran Mac Sweeper again: same results as 1
4. made new projected, imported a little different footage, made 2 min iMovie and exported to tape, did this to rule out camcorder and cable issues: 2 min movie worked fine
Never tried doing a flat file before so going to give that a try next if I can figure out how.
I greatly appreicate everybodies assistance. This is the first time I have had this problem and I have made a lot of iDVD's (and I always send a backup to DV tape before deleting, usually I do that straight away, for some reason I didn't with this particualr project - sods law) todate.

Opening Old iMovie Projects

I have many, many old iMovie projects that I would like to open in iMovie HD. Is there any way to do this? The only thing I've been able to do is open a new iMovie HD and drag old media files to the clips pane.

Hi Stephen,
Your memory is probably better than mine but I would go as far to say that you can probably open them with iMovie HD 5 without much ado just not on your intel or any machine running 10.3.9 with QT 7 as things have changed considerably with that combination. If you have or have access to a computer running 10.3.9 or earlier with QT 6.5 or earlier you should be golden provided you didn't save anything while it was opened in 6..
It's not that I am saying timing is my only problem though either. But It appears to be the cause of why things aren't working correctly and that iM keeps trashing files as nothing is making sense to the timeline anymore and projects created before the 3.9 & 7 combo had no clue what a graphics card even was and now that is the only way they are being processed. Don't get me wrong I do like my Intel but the PPC was a different beast altogether as it was capable of doing things the Intel never could and never will as it doesn't need to and can do what it does best allowing your graphics card to do what it does best as well. They just aren't in sync causing issues in any areas and not just iMovie.
If you do not need to re-edit you may be able to open the timeline movie in iM6 instead of opening the project though I am not sure how this will work in the long run as it will only be a reference movie and require the original to work.
