IDVD 08 Change text in scene selection sub menu

Created a project in iMovie08 (prolly for the last time, switching to HD), exported to quicktime, imported to garage band, chaptered and added audio in garage band, shared to iDVD, iDVD created Scene Selection sub menu (phew.....thats intuative). When you go to the sub menu, it says "Revolution". How do you change that text to something that relates to the project instead of the style of the tool???

I seem to be the guru for this issue.
While you're on that menu, expand the theme and click on the different menu types. Then try to change the text.
Maybe it's time for a bug report: http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.

Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • IDVD Won't Create Scene Selections

Hi - I'm just starting to learn iMovie 09 and iDVD 7.0.4. I made an iMovie with chapter markers, tried to create a DVD of it in iDVD and it would not create the chapter markers. So I tried making a "Magic DVD" and lo and behold, it recognized my chapter markers and make scene selections out of them. Perfect. I burned it to a dvd. Then I created another movie in iMovie with chapter markers. I did the same exact thing, but when I created it as an Magic DVD, this time it won't recognize the chapter markers and create scene selections. I am totally stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas I might try? What could I possibly be doing with the second movie that I did not do with the first?? I just won't create scene selections.
    Thanks

    Hi PainterLady
And welcome to apple discussions. Drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash if you haven't already tried this, fallowed by a complete restart of your mac. See if it helps. The Plist for iDvd is located within your preferences folder and looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
iDvd will create a new factory default set of preferences.
Once you've done this, then repair permissions from apple's disc utility (Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility).
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Changing number of chapter selections per menu

For a given theme, I will get say 6 chapter selections per menu, but if I use the same theme but on a different movie, I will get 9 chapter selections. Why is this the case, but more importantly, how can I control how many chapter selections I want per menu?
    Thanks,
    Ray

The cut and paste is an excellent idea for moving chapters from one menu screen to another.
If you select a chapter name; a box indicating the buttons 'select area' will appear and you can use this hidden grid to make sure it is not overlapping another chapter selection by then 'Selecting All' to see the other selection areas.
One thing I did discover is that you cannot force any menus or make any new ones. For instance my project of a theatre production has 28 chapters:
3 menus have 9 chapter selections and the last has just 1!
...rather stupid as the first three menus are very crowded with long names!
So I tried to cut and paste the chapters to have 5 menus pages; with 6 chapters in the first 4 menus and 4 in the last.
I managed to move these all correctly until the 4th page which ended up with 10 chapters and no sign of another menu page becoming available.
The option to 'Snap to Grid' was greyed out so I couldn't force them into their normal position.
The absolute essential process missing from the menu editing is to be able to move chapters around in the 'map' and also for them to be named below the snapboard icons so you can see what ones you're moving.
Since this feature doesn't exist (yet I presume!) I will have to go back into FCP HD and rename all my Chapter Markers and re-export the movie. The duration is an hour & 37 minutes so this is going to take ages.
Also I have already printed the DVD covers and the menus will now not co-oberate... grrrr!
Anyone find a way to make extra menu pages please help!!

  • How do I move the text in the spry sub-menu down?

Hello I am currently developing a website in Dreamweaver CS6 and I have come to a problem I can't seem to solve. I have created a fairly straight forward spry menu bar and used css to edit it, however as you can see in the image below, the sub-heading below the 'My Work' is really close to the 'My Work' heading and it doesn't look too good. I was wondering if there is a way I can move the 'Graphic Design' text in the sub-heading down a bit using css so everything looks more neat and spread out.
    Thanks

  • Changing text in a selection drop down

    Hi all,
Does anyone know how to change the text(not value) that is displayed in a single line selection drop down box from a javascript function.?
    ie.
    <select name="companyMenu" size="1" >
    <option value=" ">Want to change this text</option>
    </select>
    regards
    JK

    its ok, found the answer.
simply place an id in the option tag and refer to the innerText.
    ie
    <select name="companyMenu" size="1" onchange=whatever(this.form);>
    <option id="commonText" value="">Want to change this text</option>
    and for the function
    function whatever(f) {
         commonText.innerText = "happy";
which replaces "Want to change this text" with "happy"
    cheers

  • Scene selection freezes burned dvd

    Hello,
I recently burned an iDVD project that was about an hour long. The finished burned dvd plays on a dvd player when I press play from the menu. However, when I try to go to the scene selection sub menu I created, it will not work. In fact, when I try to go to a specific scene, the whole dvd freezes up in the dvd player. Any ideas on how to try burning the iDVD project so that the finished product has a working scene selection? Thanks as always.

    Hi
+If I was unable to produce a successful disc image with a working scene selection (the freezing happened when I played the image too), does that mean I have a bigger issue than just Memorex vs. Verbatim? I have a feeling that even if I buy the Verbatim, the scene selection will freeze because it froze on the disc image anyway.+
YES. If the DiskImage don't work. Don't burn it onto DVDs.
The problem is in the process to make the DVD in iDVD.
eg using .avi movie files, .mp3 sound etc.
    a. secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
    (other ones of no importance)
    b. Versions of Mac OS, iDVD and QuickTime (important) up to date
    c. Material to build DVD from only.
    • streamingDV (video+audio)
    • .aiff (audio eg from audio-CDs)
    • .jpg (photos - I use this)
Nothing else - convert it to match
    d. START a new iDVD project and make Your DVD-design and then a DiskImage
    e. Test this with Apple DVD-player
Does it work - burn it with either

  • How do you make a scene selection?

i recently made about 18 movies on imove with a total length of 9 hours and 43 minutes so they are all exported seperately.
i want to be able to put them on idvd with a scene selection but i want to know if there is a way to put a "play all" button.
Another question - what would the best way to distribute the movie (like is there a way to fit this much movie on a dvd)
    Any help is apprectiated!

    Hi
    A. iDVD limit is about 240 minutes on DL-DVDs and that is Movie + MENU (and this can take significant space/minutes)
    iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    B. Scene selections - is as I get it Chapters and they are preferably set in the movie editor e.g. iMovie or FinalCut. iDVD will create Scene Selection sub-menu automatically.
    C. Play all button - No there are non in iDVD - but can be faked in two ways.
    • Double movie way - all parts + one full movie containing all
Pro - easy to do and easy to understand
Cons - takes up x2 space
    • Put movies into a SlideShow and un-cheque limit picture size
    Pro - x1 space
Cons - To me the Audio was severely degraded
    D. Total space
    • iDVD - 240 minutes (iDVD do not care about Gbs at all only duration)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Can squees in 10 hours on a SL-DVD and about x2 on DL-DVD (I guess)
CONS - The Quality will be severely degraded making old VHS tapes recorded in LP-mode look fabulous when compared - Yes 10 hours will look awful.

  • Cursor selection does not follow chapter order on sub-menu

I used iMovieHD6 to add chapter markers to my large DVD project. They "shared" very nicely into iDVD8 and the Chapter Selection sub-menus were created nicely.
The problem is that when I use the cursor arrows on the DVD remote (real or virtual, in or out of iDVD), the highlight jumps around the sub-menu items rather than moving in a logical order. For example, I have 4 sub-menus with 6 chapters in each. Let's use numbers for them starting with the upper left they are 1,2,3 and then at the lower left they begin 4,5,6. I am using the Reflection White theme. When I press the right remote cursor button it will move from 1 to 2 to 5 to 6 to 3 to 4 and back to 1. Note that this order is not the same for each sub-menu, but none of them go 1,2,3,4,5,6.
I don't know what might be wrong or how to correct it, but I have a really big project that is otherwise perfect and I'd really like to get it out, please help!
    Thanks.

I just wanted to add this before closing this topic.
After poking around with the Reflection theme I better understood what Len was talking about. It appears that there are no modifiable parameters in the theme itself that control the order of cursor's motion through the buttons. That I assume is hard-coded into iDVD and follows a pre-programmed logic.
The point of failure is the position and orientation of the buttons in the Reflection theme's sub-menus when added automatically. They are made to look to the viewer as though they are set on an angled surface and viewed at an angle from above. While our brains can process this effect nicely, iDVD's cursor logic doesn't fare as well.
The work-around is fairly simple: Realizing that iDVD treats all chapter buttons as though they are two-dimensional objects on a flat surface, you must re-arrange them so that from top-left to bottom-right they follow a logical order, with the first buttons higher and farther left than the later-selected buttons. You don't have to move them very far to get the desired result and it doesn't have to affect the overall appearance of the menu in a noticeable way.
A slight rearrangement in my case left the overall look of the chapter menu the same but yielded a zig-zag flow through the buttons as follows:
    [1] [3] [5]
    [2] [4] [6]
Pressing the right cursor key jumps from top left to bottom left to top center then bottom center then top right and finally bottom right before going back to the start. Granted this is not quite "right" in that if iDVD could "see" the menu the way my brain does it would go left to right across the upper row of buttons rather than zig-zagging, but I figure that as long as the user can understand how to get to the button they want it'll be fine.
If you really need your menu selection to move linearly left to right with those arrows and with the up/down arrow used to move it vertically, then you have to arrange the buttons on the menu in a rectangular pattern with the top of each row of buttons all in a nice horizontal line. Note that's not the same as the alignment line that Reflection provides for you, it's a true horizontal line in relation to the monitor screen.
I'd much prefer that iDVD revisit the logic of the cursor control code, perhaps adding the choice of allowing the numerical sequence of the chapters to dictate the order of the cursor's motion rather than their relative position on the screen, but since they don't call me for advice, the above will likely have to do.

  • IDVD Sub Menu Button Thumbnails Not 'Sticking'

I've searched on here and there seems to be lots of people having lots of problems but not the problem I'm having.
I have been using iDVD for a number of years and have generally been pretty happy with it. This is the first time I have used iDVD '08 and it has been problem after problem. I have finally almost finished my project and now I'm stuck. I have tried to changed the images on some sub menu buttons but as soon as I go to a different sub menu or view the buttons change back to a generic sub menu icon or folder icon. This has really got me stumped now.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried a drag and drop of iDvd's pref file to the trash and restarting your laptop?
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Use the finder to look for this item/s and then drag it to the trash. It often helps to simply restart your computer and try again.
    Good luck.

  • Scene selection button disappeared forever

After struggling fruitlessly with DVD studio pro, (which refused to make a DVD that played on any machine other than my iMac,) I was forced to switch to iDVD, which behaves at least half-competently. I was editing a project and deleted the scene selection button that is generated automatically when importing a movie with chapter markers.
I saved the project and exited to re-export the movie, (several times, because final cut keeps finding ways to screw me over as well,) and when I went to re-import the movie, the scene selection button refused to appear. I tried restarting the program, deleting the project file, but it appears that the scene selection submenu is gone forever. What the hay apple? Why is it so easy to destroy functions in your applications?

Have you tried making a new idvd project? The scene selection should return ina new project. I am guessing that you made a quicktime movie with chapter markers from FCP or FCE. Open a new idvd project with a new name. Drag your QT movie into any area of the dvd widow except the drop zone. It should now say play movie and scene selection. If it does, drag you QT movie of still frame or whatever into the drop zone and burn. If it doesn't then you will need to delte your pref file found in the library to reset idvd to factory defaults.
If this doesn't work post your workflow. How are you exporting your movie to IDVD?

  • Changing scene selection menu action

I'm trying to create a DVD with a particular theme. Everything works fine until I try the Scene Select button in the Preview Mode. When the Scene Selection menu comes up it is using a theme from a previous project. I am unable to change this to the theme being used in the first menu for this project.
How can I cancel the old project theme out of the Scene Selection menu?
Or how can I change it once I've started a project using a particular theme?
Thanks for any help you can give!

If you go to the main menu and then Advanced/Apply Theme To Project, it won't do that? If not:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Simple question whcih i cannot find the simple answer to:  How do I change Text Colour in a Spreadsheet?  The Help menu doesn't help.

    Hi Lecia,
    You have several choices.
Use the first set of controls in the Format Bar. One of these is a Color well (red in the image). Select the cell(s) in which you want the text coloured, then click the well to open its Color palette, and choose your colour.
Use the Text Inspector. Open the inspector, click the Text button (T), and use the tools there (similar to the set in the Format Bar).
Press command-T to open the Fonts Window. This offers a few more options than are available in the Inspector or the Format bar.
Regarding "Help": I'd recommend using the Numbers '09 User Guide, which you can download via the Help menu. Easier to search, and easier reading than the individual Help articles. search 'text color' to quickly get to instructions on applying colour to text.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • How do I get the same song to play on the main menu and during scene select

I would like the music to play continuously throught the menu and scene selection. As it is I have to drag the audio file into each scene selection, and the music starts at the beginning.
At least, is there a way to remove the awful sound track that iDVD has on the themes?

Yes I can add audio, how do I get the same song to play throughout the chapter menus? I have 30 "chapters", which are scenes from an hour of home movie. Can the same song play continuously throughout the different chater menus?. As it is now, I have to drag an audio file into every submenu, and it starts the song at the beginning for each chapter menu.
Otherwise, that same song that is preloaded on the theme is played. I hope this makes sence, kind of hard to explain. Thanks
