IDVD '08 "Loading Themes" freeze

After installing IDVD '08 on my IMac G5 (just received from Apple)it opens to an active "Loading Themes" window which never ceases short of "Force Quit". The same family disk loaded IDVD '08 on my MacBook Pro without incident. There are two other posts with similar "Loading Themes" problems. Any suggestions? How does one get a response from Apple on this?

This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.
Call Apple tech support at the number that came with the iLife box.

  • IDVD "Loading Themes" Freeze

I'm having the iDVD "Loading Themes" freeze problem. I open iDVD and it just loads themes, and goes no further. I tried the solution posted for this same problem with no success. I checked for updates, none needed.
This is a brand new Macbook Pro, that I got over the summer.

    Hi
Most probably: iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard

    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
*• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try*
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Pls. Help...  I run IDVD '09, loading themes stays on forever!!

I click IDVD and it displays the pop-up box with the blue/white fill bar and stays on forever saying loading themes. Do I need to go into a registry type setting and reset something? I just updated my software to '09 from '06 version. The rest of the app works, this is my only problem and I need to burn a movie to DVD..
Here is what I see, when I click iDVD and run it..

I hope the rest of your Apple users don't end up talking to oneself, like I am here. : |
I re-installed iDVD, picked themes, deleted the file as mentioned, and it's still on the endless loading themes dialog box. I will try to call Apple during business hours to see if there is some file to delete or some way to fix this. I can't burn my movie, made for my kids sports team to DVD. This is turning into a Microsoft commercial. The Apple Guy who loves his Mac but a bug stops him from delivering the !@#$ing movie, so he makes a crappy one on Vista....
Anyone know the answer I would be great appreciative and would send you a starbucks card or something.
    Thank you.

  • IDVD wont open on Macbook Pro. 'loading themes' bar only.

Everytime i try to open iDVD, i select 'start new project' and the 'loading themes' bar appears and nothing else happens. I have never been able to get into the actual program properly.
When i was installing all the new updates when i first receieved my macbook, the computer crashed half way through so this might have caused the problem?
Either way, I trashed the program and then reinstalled i DVD from the original install disk and opened it (6.0.0) and i had the same problem. I then downloaded the software update (6.0.1) and again no difference...the rest of the iLife apps work perfectly.
    please help! thanks
    Macbook Pro 2ghz, 2gb ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

no..still no difference after deleting those files. loading themes bar still wont go away! im going to do a system restart anyway and wipe off the hard drive because i copied all the files from my old 12 inch powerbook originally and i think the computer is clogged up and it def could be a lot faster. hopefully iDvd will work after that, too!

  • IDVD 7.0.1 endlessly tries to load themes at start

I recently installed iLife08. When launching iDVD 08 and choosing New Project or Open existing Project, the application starts loading themes and the process never ends. I'm obliged to do a forced exit, and, if I don't solve the problem, to revert back to iDVD 06

I'm having the same problem on mu Imac G5 only. Has anyone got anything on this from Apple? I'll try to get through to them.

  • IDVD 7.1.2 crashes when "Loading Themes"

Using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 after loading iLife 11's iDVD and upgrading it to 7.1.2 iDVD won't open. It gets hung up on "Loading Themes" and eventually crashes. In Library>Application Support>iDVD >Themes I have only iDVD6 and iDVD7. In the Finder under Go>Library>there is no iDVD folder.
Any suggestions on how to geet iDVD to open?

Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • IDVD 6 won't load themes

I just installed iLife6 and I find that iDVD 6 hangs when trying to load the themes - hangs means it shows the "loading themes" barber pole but never finishes. Solution? I noticed that there are only folders iDVD 4 -6 in my Themes folder in iDVD inside Application Support. Could that be the problem?

I would like to put my hat in for the people who are having this problem. I have read everything that has been suggested in this forum (delete plist files, delete themes file, reinstalled from iLife 06 disk, reistalled just the themes).
I have gone as far as to compare the install on my Powerbook (which works) with my G5. Found that in the user level directory plist file that the path was wrong, I edited it, still doesn't work.
I have copied the themes from the system Library directory to the user level one and that didn't do anything.
What I have found is that each time I start iDVD it hangs on the loading bar and punts the error to Console (which is the same as the above user's output). It then creates one theme at a smaller size than the same theme in my Powerbooks iDVD user level Application Support directory (usually only 44Kb compared to 166Kb). Each subsequent restart of the app creates a new theme in the user level Application Support directory. Once it has created that theme it will hang for as long as I have patience (which has been as long as 3 hours).
Each time I have reinstalled iDVD it builds the system level iDVD Application Support directory just fine but does not create anything in the user level directory.
Finally as mentioned before I have compared my working Powerbook .plist file with my G5 .plist file and found that the Powerbook's searchpath is set to the system level iDVD Application Support directory where the G5 is set to the user level one. Even after changing the G5's path it still does not function. No amount of reinstalls will fix this.
    Thanks for the help.

I open up iDVD and I create a new project, save it, then the loading themes bar shows up, disappears, and then nothing else happens. I have to force quit in order to get out of the program.

  • Loading themes problem

I'm posting this again, since i got no response in a topic which is "answered" whereas it's actually not :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7989694&#7989694
Same "loading themes" problem for me, with iDVD 7.2.
I tried deleting the preferences file and started again idvd, nothing.
The only thing i can do to have it work is use another account, as a matter of fact. But i'd rather use my account, so i'd like to reinstall idvd. but how can i do it?
    thanks
    stéphane

Actually, iDVD used to work on the other account, because it was kind of blank (there was no video in it). I've just created a new imovie project, on this second account : now there are files in the "Videos" folder (sorry for my english, i'm not sure what's the word on a mac in english, but it french the folder is named "Séquences"), and iDVD freezes again. Even on the second account.
So, to sum up: *as soon as there is one file in the Video folder* (whether a imovie file or any other, like any .avi file), iDVD cant open and freezes...
dont you think that it could be worth reinstalling iDVD? but how? Or maybe there are other applications to make DVDs?
(all software is up to date on my mac)

  • IDVD 08 worked, now freezes

My particular situation is that iDVD 08 worked fine for about 2 weeks.
Now when I open it, the "loading themes" bar comes up for a while, goes away, then the dreaded "whirling beach ball" goes on forever (only on the menu bar), and I have to "force quit" iDVD.
And on the dock it has the black arrow under the icon, as if it were running. I tried deleting the old themes, and then custom installing iDVD again, like it said on Apple's page. No change, same problem.
But unlike other situations I've read on these pages, it was working fine before.
I had no previous versions of iDVD.
Should I un-install, and install from scratch? If so, how do I do this?
    Please somebody help!
    Thanks,
    Pablo

I just posted this in your other inquiry:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Can't locate audio file for iDVD 6 Travel Theme

I have looked under Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes I find only folders for iDVD3, iDVD 4 and iDVD 5. No iDVD 6 there at all! I know I have iDVD 6 installed since I loaded iLife06 last week myself and can both see and hear the Travel Theme graphic and audio theme. Where can it be?
Once I find it, how do I get it into iTunes?
    eMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes! Tonight is the first time I've opened iDVD and that theme started playing. What a marvellous theme it is; it inspires me, sort of sets the level for what I should be shooting for in my scores. I love this kind of music.
And It Should Be Credited to the Appropriate Artist, Apple folks!
There is no mention anywhere of who wrote it (or any of the other audio tracks on any of the sample Themes). The clip seems to be called TravelCards, on which a google search produced information on the composer Simon Fisher Turner (aka SFT), with a CD called Travelcard, but I'll be damned if I can find a downloadable clip to listen to! Some of his stuff is in iTunes, but not this album. From the sound of his other work, however, it could be him. It also bears a bit of resemblance to the work of another British artist, Karl Jenkins (the "Diamond Music" composer, also a founding member of Soft Machine, one of the seminal bands from the 70's).
Whoever it is, I have listened to the sampled phrase over and over and over as it loops in my iDVD window beneath this one... and I haven't gotten tired of it yet! Please if anyone has any idea at all who wrote this, I'd love to know and hear more. Thanks!
