IDVD 08 not opening

I installed imovie 06 and now idvd08 does not work. I have tried the different solutions offered on this forum but nothing works. Can anyone help?

You're leaving us guessing... What did you try? Let's start with the most simple possible solution.
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • IDVD not open after Share To iDVD is complete???

    Hi,
This has happened a few times now and I can't find any answerds on other sites.
I create a project in iMovie '09. I edit it. I choose "Share to iDVD". iMovie prepares the project, but when it finishes, nothing (usually) happens. iDVD does not open automatically and show the project, like it should. It has only successfully opened twice in the the last eight projects.
Can anybody suggest a possible cause?
I know that iDVD itself can open the project from the finder, but this is not the issue. It should open automatically.
    Regards.

With both iDVD and iMovie closed, go to your Home folder(the one with your user name on it)/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.idvd.plist
Once you locate this plist file, drag it to the trash. Don't worry; iDVD will create a new fresh one when you relaunch it.
Reopen iDVD and see if it works properly now.
If not, please post back for more suggestions.

  • IDVD not opening

I have just been trying to open iDVD from iLife '08 to burn a project from iMovie 6 to DVD and it opens then shuts immediately after. I opened up Console to see what was going on and this is what it said...
    2007-09-09 16:22:42.709 iDVD[4675] Can't open input server /Library/InputManagers/safaritidy.bundle

    ##**## Not encoding -> exit(5)
Someone said I should remove safaritidy.bundle, restart and try again, so I did but to no avail. I then opened up Console and it now says this....
An exception of type NSInvalidArgumentException occured.

Any help on fixing this very annoying error would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • IDVD not opening properly

Each time i try to open iDVD after i recently updated all my software, it doesn't open properly and when i right-click on the icon, it says Application no responding and I have to force quit.
How to I fix this problem?

Which steps at troubleshooting have you already taken?
Assuming you have at least 20 GB's of hard drive space on the boot volume for iDvd to work with, have you tried launching iDvd from a separate user account? If not, make a new user account and attempt to launch iDvd.
Assuming you have launched iDvd at least once; have you tried disposing of the plist for iDvd followed by a complete Restart of your mac? Go to your username > library > preferences > com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file OR drag it to the desktop (your choice). Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new set of preferences with all of the correct / default settings.
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Make sure to close iDvd prior to disposing of the preference file. Also keep in mind you will not find a plist if the app has never been launched previously).

    Hi
Very few Apple people are reading this forum. It's a User to User forum.
I would try to delete the pref files (or rather start a new user account) to see
    if it runns OK.
    or read collected material:
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard

iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • IDvd not opening (quit unexpectedly)

Everytime I try to open iDvd it says it has quit unexpectedly and to relaunch. No matter how many times I try to open it and relaunch it doesn't work. I have iDvd 7.0.4 This has been like this for two years.
    My software is updated too.

It sounds like a reinstall of iDVD is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iDVD" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iDVD from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updaters: Apple - Support - Downloads

I just upgraded to iLife 8. All the other programs work well, but iDVD does not open. It goes through the motions of opening, and shows the "new project" window for a fraction of a second, and then quits itself. • Can't not open a previous iDVD project

I have wedding project that I completed in March. I wanted to burn another copy. I double clicked, I tried to open in iDVD. It quickly loads themes and then the window pops "create new project, open existing project, etc. Can anyone help on this matter? It was stored on the Lacie hardrive and then I put it on my desktop. It would not open.
    BC
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Do you have one of the DVDs that you burned in March?
If so, you can use that to burn another by making a Disk Image using Disk Utility:
    Creating a disk image
You can use Disk Utility to create a disk image of a disk, volume, or folder. You can use disk images to move files from one computer to another or to send to other people in email messages.
You can also use a disk image to burn a CD or DVD disc to send to other people or to back up the contents of your disk so that you can restore it if something happens to your information.
When you create a disk image you choose the format of the image:
If you want to continue adding files to the disk image after it's created, choose read/write.
If you don't need to add more files to the disk image, choose read-only.
If you don't need to add more files to the image and you want to conserve space, choose compressed . The disk image takes up only as much space as the data on the image.
If you want to use the disk image with a third-party application, choose CD/DVD master. The disk image contains a copy of all sectors of the disk, whether they're used or not, and copies them to other CDs or DVDs bit for bit.
You can also create a blank disk image so that you can copy files to it later. See "Creating a blank disk image" for more information.
Be sure the files you want to protect are in the same folder in the Finder.
To create a disk image from a disk or volume, select it in the list of disks and volumes.
Choose File > New then the type of image you want to create.
To create a disk image from a folder, choose “Disk Image from Folder.” Select the folder you want, then click Image.
To create a disk image from a disk or volume, choose "Disk Image from disk name."
Type a name for the image and choose where you want to save the image.
Choose one of the disk formats from the Image Format pop-up menu.
To require a password to access the contents of the image, choose "AES-128 (recommended)" from the Encryption pop-up menu.
    Click Save.
If you chose to use a password, enter it in the dialog that appears.
The name of the disk image is followed by the filename extension ".dmg."
Once you have created a disk image from your prior DVD, you can use that disk image to burn more copies of the DVD:

  • IDVD 4 not opening

I've restored iDVD twice using the disks that came with my laptop but everytime i open iDVD and try to save a new project it doesn't create one. I can see the options on the top grey bar (e.g. file, edit, project etc). I try to save a project on my desktop and nothing is created, ive also tried to transfer photos from iphoto to idvd and it says "Preparing photos for idvd" and then again nothing happens. In finder i only have recipts of iDVD not sure if this is the problem but i have tried to restore it twice and both times it said it was successful. I've used iDVD in the past and it was great, i'm worried in case maybe i've deleted something in the past to do with iDVD.
    Please Help!!

    Hi a
No not knowing but just suggesting what to try till someone that knows
    gives the correct answer.
    - Delet iDVD pref file: -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist
    - Clean out/Erase the Media File - in iDVD under advanced menu ( Choose Advanced > Delete Encoded Assets. )
    - Repair Permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - Repair Hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool) - You need to start from CD/DVD or
    one external hard disk
    - Eventually: Start a new account - log into this and re-try.
    Other origins are version conflicts:
    OS X.3.9 + iDVD 4.0.? + QT 6.5.2 = should be a stable working environment
    OS X.3.9 + iDVD 5.0.1 + QT 6.5.2 = stable working environment (if possibly)
    OS X.4.9 + iDVD 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.5 = also OK
Just to start with till the real gurus hit the bulls eye.

  • Can iDVD 09 open and work with an iDVD project i made in 06?

I am bringing over my iMovie 06 and iDVD projects over to new mac with iDVD 09. I took out iMovie 09 and resinstalled 06HD. The iMovie 06 files now open ok, but not the iDVD 06 projects, when I try to open them with iDVD 09. Should I remove iDVD 09 and install iDVD 06.
I heard that iMovie 06 files will import ok into iDVD 09, but now assuming that the iDVD 06 projects themselves will not open in the newer program.

i uninstalled iDVD 09 and installed iDVD 06 to see if I could open the G4's old iDVD projects.
Error message says iDVD 06 will not work with this OS. What gives? Apparently iMovie HD06 will work, as far as I can tell, with just a few tests.
What CAN I DO HERE to bring over my iDVD 06 projects so I can work them on Snow Leopard?
Luckily the dvd projects are not many and not complex. But there are so many issues with all of this. I might as well have a computer that knows only Chinese characters. I got the new mac so my video work wouldnt clog up on the old G4. But this is beyond clog. This is cement, stuck at the starting gate.
