IDVD 08 Pass Through theme menu errors

in iDVD 08 my menus for pass through are taking pictures from other menus and placing those in the pass through text when it should be just showing the background of the menu it's in. for example, where there is no text on my special features menu is the normal background. but when the text starts scrolling along the bottom, it isn't just see through to the picture behind it; it shows the background the main menu.
anyone having this problem or know how to fix it??
thanks

Did you resolve your issue, because I have exactly the same problem?
In iDVD 08 my menus for pass through are taking picture from the first menu I play and placing it in the pass through text when it should be just showing the background of the menu it's in.
Is this a bug ?

  • No title scrolling on menus w/ Pass-Through theme

I did not see this addressed when I searched the discussions.
I created a iDVD project using the Pass-Through theme. Everything looks good. But when saved to disk image, the cut-out titles that scroll across the menu screens are missing, so of course the burned disk is missing it.
This is actually what makes the theme so nice, so not having it is a real problem.
I can't find anything to do differently when creating this project since it looks fine before the burn/save as disc image process.
    I would appreciate any suggestions/solutions.

Managed to fix it by shutting down the computer, then restarting again. Made a text correction in the movie title and did a 'Save As' and then made a new disk image. Perfect this time! Not sure what the issue was, but this resolved it.

  • Pass Through Theme Still Not "Passing Through"

So I'm working on this project and it looks completely AWESOME on my computer with the "pass through" theme, but when I burn it to DVD I just get a blurry picture behind a "white" scrolling title. I know this has been addressed before and I've checked out all the "fixes" so far on this issue from past topics but I'm still pulling my hair out.
I've tried "deleting my preferences" and "repairing my permissions" but still end up with the same thing... a white scrolling text over a blurry picture. My Mac is only 2 months old!
Perhaps the solution is to just fly my family out to watch the dvd on my computer???
    Help! Anyone? Bueller?

    Nevermind!
I went back to an awesome answer by Rich839 who suggested the following:
+Sometimes permissions and preferences can get corrupted. Whenever iDVD starts acting funny, a common maintenance procedure is to do the following: Delete preferences by closing iDVD and trashing the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User (the House icon)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility App on your Mac. Open the Disk Utilities window and select the Mac hard drive icon at the top of the side pane at the left. Then click on the Repair Permissions button. When you have repaired permissions and deleted preferences, restart your computer and launch iDVD. iDVD will replace the .plist file that you deleted. Be sure also that you have sufficient free disk space on your hard drive for iDVD to function correctly. 25GB often is recommended by users of this forum. After doing all of the above, relaunch iDVD and see whether you still have the problem.+
I failed to restart my computer after deleting and repairing, but after I did the above seemed to work! *crosses fingers* At least the "Pass Through" feature seems to be working in the little preview window while it's burning. Before, the scrolling text in the preview window was just white!
Hope this somehow helps others who've had the same issue!

  • Pass Through Theme

Hi Folks, hope someone can help me. I have come back to an old (November) project I did for a client of some of his property schemes. Between each I had a Lower Third pass through with the name. I am now trying to add two more schemes and when I preview the same effect it looks fine, but when I apply it gives me a widescreen effect ie big black bars top and bottom. Project was set up in widescreen and I can't think I am doing anything different from last time.
I opened the project on a different Mac to test but the same thing, all on Pass Through effect, some of the other I tried worked OK using the same pics. Any ideas would be of great help!
    Thanks

Ok answered my own question. Took the project home last night and an it on my old faithful G4 imac running Tiger. No issues at all! seems maybe that Theme is buggy in 10.5.1.

  • 'Pass Through' Chapter Select Menu Text

    Hi there,
I'm putting together a DVD using the Pass Through theme, but seem to hit a snag with the chapter menus - namely that I can't stop the background text from saying "PASS THROUGH CHAPTERS". Whilst looking very nice, it's not actually what I want.
I've prodded around in every menu I can find, to no avail. Anybody know how to change this?
    Thanks!

In order to understand the fix, it's useful to understand how the Passthrough theme works (also known as the "Passage Thema" in the Deutsch/German customisation of iDVD). There are three levels in the screens hierarchy for this theme. These are top level, mid level and chapter level.
The background text is in Impact font and inherits its text contents from the foreground text which can normally be edited and modified, re-formatted and (unfortunately) deleted. Other foreground text can be placed on the page also.
If the user deletes the foreground text the background text becomes uneditable. The lowest level pages appear to have no editable foreground text box.
The approach to editing depends on whether
One way to fix this on the chapter/scene selection screens is to download a Hex-Editor for MacOS X such as "HexEdit".
Using HexEdit, open up a backup of the .dvdproj file you are working on. In the Open dialog, navigate to the file and then you will see further internal resources in the file to open. Click into Contents > Resources > ProjectData
Now search (Ctrl-F) for the text "pass through chapters" (assuming this is the irritating text you wish to replace on the scene select page), which will display in the right hand half of the window. Left is hexadecimal, right is the ASCII translation. Use Find and Replace rather than typing directly into either section.
Replace it with the text you want the sub-pages to display. Note this is a tricky move because for some reason the file structure counts the number of characters. Your replacement text must contain exactly the same number of characters as the text you are replacing. (You can pad with spaces at the end if you desire).
Note you'll probably see the word Impact somewhere around here. Adventurous users might find a way to edit the font of the background text mask. I did not, and it might be that the font name has to match exactly your system resources and be the same length as the word "Impact" that it replaces.
Save the dvdproj file once you have finished and have a look.
Limitations of iDVD: Every sub-page has the same background text.
Workaround for the mid-level pages: Add the buttons for the movies to the top level page. Then drop movie assets onto the buttons. Note the buttons inherit the movie names. Edit these. Go into each mid-level sub-page and edit the title there also.
If you want the mid level sub-page background text to be different from the foreground text, then you will need to reduce the editable foreground text until it is insignificant and change its color also. Add a new Text object from the menu and type in the foreground text. This is easier than messing about with HexEdit.
For some reason, I lost the foreground title text for the top level home menu, and also had to employ the HexEdit technique at this level.
    Good luck.

Nov 14, 2008 3:41 PM Re: Pass Through Theme problem
Re: Pass Through Theme problemin response to Glo H
My smaller text which appears in white says Scenes 1-6. The pass through text which is larger and has a different image in it says "Pass Through Chapters" and it rolls by while the smaller text stays put. I notice the image that shows through the pass through text is the same image I set on the main DVD screen. On that one my name of my disc roll past in giant see through letters. I like that but I just don't want that same effect on my chapters screens.
Can the image behind the rolling text be changed to the current window and not the main menu image?

Thanks for the tip and figured out to delete my "Scenes 1-6" that was automatically created when, in iMovie, I shared the movie to iDVD with chapters. The menu title text block doesn't like cut/paste and I had to retype the "Scenes 1-6" text for the motion/peek-through scrolling text to refresh.
Hmmm, but how tricky is that and where is it mentioned in the help/faq files etc?
    cheers

  • PASS THROUGH MAIN grrr!

I have just exported my imovie project onto idvd and decided to use the quite funky looking "Pass Through" theme. The problem is that although I can change the title, the words "Pass Through Main" keep scrolling across instead of the correct title. In the example version "Greece" ith scrolls as the title, how can I change this I am going mad!

I just tried it. I double clicked "Pass through Main" on the title screen, it turned "blue", I typed in Canada, and Canada scrolled across the screen. When I clicked the little arrow to reveal the chapter menu in the menu selection sidebar, Canada was already showing.
This was on my G4 laptop which I just updated to Tiger 10.4, QT 7.1.2 and iLife 6.0.2.

  • "Pass Through Chapters" text

I'm working with a movie I shot in August 2009 and it imported nicely and I even added a slide show. I'm using the "Pass Through" Theme.
When I click on the main menu, where I list the options for the movie or the slideshow, whichever one I click on, the submenu has this really annoying scrolling text that says "Pass Through Chapters."
How do I either get rid of that or alter the text to something more contextually appropriate?

    Rich, Hi and thanks.
I did that on the main menu and the pass-through text there changed, but the sub-menu pass through text remains the same. When I try double clicking on that, the drop zone editor pops up but the text doesn't highlight

Hi. Whenever I go through one of the menus in firefox, the links remain highlighted after my mouse passes over them. Is there a bug fix for this or is there something wrong with my computer? I am running windows 7 if that helps. This problem started ever since I upgraded to version 5.

I have downloaded and used the iPod Reset Utility, alot that did. My current state is iTunes on my XP Home with SP3 sees the iPod. When I drag a song to the iPod, the Sync message appears for about 5 minutes, then the Apple symbol appears. But no song has been transferred to the iPod.
I tried to tap into the XP iTunes database from my iBook, but although it acted like it would add the XP library to the iBook library, it did not. I've got 19 Gs of songs on the XP. If I have to load each song from its original CD to get it on my iBook I'm going to start looking for some other app or device so that I can listen to my music.
It is a shame, in the old days, Apple techs use to look at what was going on, now it appears they don't, so they never know they have problems until Apple's profits fall.

  • Why does iDVD keep giving me a multiplexing error and ejects my DVD?

I have tried several times to create a simple movie with iMovie and iDVD. Both are from the iLife 6.0 series. Each time, the movie imports to iDVD okay, goes through all the asset encoding just fine, and when it get to multiplexing and burning, it stops with a message saying there was something wrong with the multiplexing or asset encoding and ejects the DVD. Help. I am at my wits end with this.

    Hi
Multiplex Error - is one of the most complex error to run into - can be so much
see (especially new info at end of list)
    MULTIPLEX ERROR !
Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

as described by Donnyboy69.  Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
    B.    Location of Chapters
    • Can’t be at start or end of movie (Skip first/start one - iDVD sets this by it self. At the End - no need)

    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.
    2. Disconnect any other external devices not absolutely needed.

FROM Bev. (Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.
    One user more writes
To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

I've made literally hundreds of DVD's using iDVD and I occasionally get the dreaded "Multiplex Error". In the past changing the position of chapter markers has worked, but sometimes the only way I can get the DVD to burn is to remove all the chapter markers (not a great solution).
Recently, I've discovered a bug in iDVD that creates the "Muliplex Error" message and it may be the cause of some of my previous problems. Sometimes when you export a movie to iDVD with chapters, it will create chapter menus with incredibly long playing times. My most recent "Multiplex Error" project had two chapter menus. I have a 38 second audio clip that I use for my DVD menus and the first menu showed the correct time of 38 seconds (select View>Show Inspector). The second menu with the same audio clip showed 13 minutes and 42 seconds! When I went to the Project Info window (select Project>Project Info) it now showed the total size of my DVD as 4.8 GB, too big for iDVD to encode. So, I manually adjusted the time of the second menu to 38 seconds. This time without changing anything else, iDVD  burned the disk perfectly.
The interesting thing is that when I began the burn, the project info showed under 4GB for my disk. So, from now on I'll check the playing times of each menu before I burn.

  • Pass Through Chapters Title

OK, I'm begging you. I searched for this problem and found it is something that others are having problems with. The answers were unintelligible.
I have a DVD menu with Pass Through. It says Greece 2007 as it scrolls.
The iMovie that I dragged is called that so that is probably how it got it's name.
On the menu there is Play Movie and Chapters.
When you click Chapters and go to that Pass Trough sub-menu it scrolls Pass Through.
I cannot get it to say anything else.
I have changed the name Chapters on the 1st menu. That didn't do it.
I have added a text box to the chapters sub-menu, still no luck.
Please let me know what I am doing wrong, I'm not an idiot but please try and be specific on your instructions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Michael,
I just used this theme. When you've imported your video into iDVD and chosen the Pass Through template for you DVD presentation, go to the menu bar at the top of your screen. Choose 'Advanced' and then 'Apply Theme to Project'. That should do it. You can do the same for the Chapters page.
    Hope this helps

  • Theme menu

I just printed out the iMovie HD user manual. The section on page 39 deals with Themes Pane. The graphic on that page has listed in the pop-up menu 'Floating Frames - Black'. The version of iMovie I'm working with (6.0.4) doesn't have have that particular theme available; it just has some travel-related themes similar to those in iDVD. Is this another example of some slimming-down of the 'free' 6.0.4 version? If so, how can I access the Themes that might be available in 6.0.3 but not currently displayed in 6.0.4?
    Thanking you in advance.

I had a look at the manual, and it does show a Floating Frames theme, but I think it is just a made-up example that is not a real iMovie 6 theme. The only themes with iM6 are these 5: Travel, Reflections black and white, Pass-through, and Road trip.
A review of iM6 from 2006 also says there are only 5 themes: http://www.macworld.com/article/49041/2006/01/firslookimovie.html
I could not find that there are any different themes in 6.0.3 vs 6.0.4. These versions are supposed to be exactly the same; the .0.4 version is a free download for those who purchased iLife 08 and did not have any prior version of iMovie6. .0.3 was the latest update for those with iLife 6.

  • RV042G cannot support more than 2-3 IPSec Pass through connections

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out what the max number of IPSec VPN pass through connections the RV042G can handle.  We bought an RV042G router to replace our old RV042 box which was running into connection limitations.  There are approximately 15 people in the office and anywhere from 5-8 of them need to vpn to a single client site.   There seems to be an issue with UPNP where it creates the proper port forwarding but doesn't associate it with an internal IP address.  Giving each workstation a static internal IP doesn't solve this issue.  The remote site we are connecting to does have NAT-T turned on.  What ends up happening is that after a while, users cannot vpn.  Sometimes it happens with fewer than three users.  Clearing the UPNP and rebooting the router helps but eventually if you connect and disconnect, a few times, you're hosed.   The UPNP doesn't release the setting it makes in a timely fashion.  Is there any way to fix this besides turning off UPNP which we need for other software to work?

Lenovo support (for me in Canada at least) is based in Atlanta, so I'm surprised you found a tech with bad English...
Your problems sound like windows problems, not hardware problems -- are you running XP or Windows7? If you google based on your OS, there are threads to be found on slowing down the start menu behaviors.

  • [4.0EA2]Is there a way to simply pass through SQL commands?

    Hello out there,
I wonder if there is a way to pass through some commands without SQL Developer trying to parse or otherwise process them.
In 3.2 I could do something like this when connected to a MySQL database:
    /*sqldev:stmt*/begin;
    delete from test where some_condition=1;
    /*sqldev:stmt*/rollback;
Now I get the following error:
SELECT command denied to user 'tsn'@'pc259.vu2k.vertriebsunion.de' for table 'all_tab_cols'
It seems that SQL Developer tries do do some magic that does not work on non-Oracle databases.
So is there some magic comment like /*sqldev:stmt*/ that just passes through the command without further parsing?
The best solution would be SQL Developer supporting transactions on MySQL though...
I know, I posted a similar question some time ago for 4EA1, but did not get an answer for that.
