IDVD 08 quits when editing text

When I use the dropdown text menu to change the font, size, etc. of the DVD title in the
opening theme/menu, the app quits. I am using an iDVD 05 theme. I usually do not
use themes but I found one that suits the project and now...no joy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if you might have a duplicate font issue.
try going into Macintosh HD >Applications > Font Book, then look for
fonts that have a black dot beside them. Highlight these fonts, then from the menu bar select > Edit > Resolve Duplicates to turn these fonts off. Hope this helps but if not come on back.

IDVD quits when previewing Project

iDVD quits when trying to preview the Project when using uncompressed movie which was exported with uncompressed Quicktime 4:2:2 8 bit from Final Cut Express 4.
When I use quicktime to play the exported movie it works fine. I soon as I put this exported movie into the iDVD project and select play to test the Project, iDVD just quits. If I go back to Final Cut Express and export the project again this time just using default Quicktime move export and update the iDVD project to this movie it works when testing DVD in iDVD. iDVD does not appear to like the uncompressed movie.
Any suggestions on what needs to be done in order to use uncompressed movie with iDVD? The project I have is only 44 minutes long. The reason I wanted to use uncompressed was that I have graphic elements (ie fancy title etc from LiveType) that I want to preserve the quality.

how much available Hard Drive space is currently on the boot volume (your main HD)?
If it's over 25 GB's, did you export your QT movie like this (w/chapter markers only)?

Quicktime to iDVD - iDVD quits when making disk image

You folks helped me a hugely with the arduous process of producing a nice 45 minute iMovie->iDVD movie last year from my digi camera, which actually works (http://www.galfromdownunder.com/peru). Thank you! Last year I was flummoxed by misplaced chapter markers. It's not the case this time.
I am doing another one of a similar size, and am at the stage of trying to burn a disk image, but it keeps falling over with 'iDVD unexpectedly quits' after about an hour and half. This time I saved the little log that pops up with 'send to Apple' (does anyone actually read it if you do?) and have posted it here:

I would really be so grateful if an extreme geek would mind taking a look before I try to reverse engineer this whole process further. The log always seems to stop at a place that says:
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
The difference between this project and last year's is as follows:
1) In an attempt to save time and space, I bypassed iMovie, and concatenated the QT7 clips and moved the resulting final movie directly into iDVD.
2) Yes, I did see that the Chapter Markers I painstakingly inserted (using that arduous text file process described in QT Help, mindful of not putting one within 2 secs of beginning, end, etc etc) into the movie are not picked up by iDVD. Groan. Still, the disk image burn quit. Then I tried again with the second concatenated QT movie without chapter markers, but it still quit with the above report.
3) I moved individual files to iDVD fudge a separate 'scenes' menu. I know it means there is redundancy in the data now, but there is 4 Gb to play with, so why not....
4) The total capacity comes to 4.3 Gb according to the Status section in iDVD. When I clicked on the DVD Capacity button it said the total was 62 minutes. I thought it was under ... hmmm... had it set to Best Performance.
5) I have about 11.47 Gb free on my laptop. I even tried making the disk image to a 20 gb Lacie external Firewire drive but it still quit.
6) Is there any difference between moving a reference movie to iDVD vs a self-contained? Does the s/w resolve them for you at the end of the day?
Really appreciate help - I realize could/should get iLife06 and a bigger machine etc etc but since I managed to do it last year, why spend more money unless there is an insurmountable tech reason to do so.

My. You sound like an advanced user, but that sounds like a very advanced crash....
You know, I'm not one of the great experts, and I'm here to try to learn why iDVD won't start with a "Missing (iDVD) Image" in the crash log, but I've also had very little success with QT editing. Assembling clips frequently produces a video that is corrupted between clips, and a save doesn't really produce a truly complete file from a series of clips. Usually, the file plays up to a broken video, and the video then freezes, while sound continues. Yet picking on the video at the cursor will restart the video, so it's in there, just broken. Common occurance, this. This can be validated when that malformed file is imported into MPEG Streamclip (free app, and a good one), with the import only loading the clips up to the malfunctioning clip. I'm guessing that iDVD is running up against a malformed section in your QT file, causing a crash against a incorrect behavior in how the code accesses memory.
What would I do?
Since there doesn't seem to be any "self-healing" ability in QT, and since you already have a QT file with times and bookmark names, you might be happier if you went ahead with iMovie, and used the QT file for a ready reference to recreate the video in iMovie. I've done this in remakiing a DVD from another DVD I've created. The recreation process only takes maybe 1/2 hour compared to the much longer first effort. Copying is easy.
I use Final Cut express myself, and like its quality, and use an external drive for movie making, so you can live with the 11gigs you have onboard using your Lacie. Given the sad behavior of iDVD on my G5 recently, not starting and all, I'm thinking that maybe another 3rd party product, like the highly recommended "Toast" may help me elude what I'm beginning to recognize as substandard Apple apps. Apple has annoyed me endlessly with my need to "convert" the standard 'mpeg' to use in Apple products, like Final Cut (even after the $10US upgrade to play mpeg). Perhaps that would be a long term positive for you too.
Like your current experience, I'm at the "had my fill" point with pure Apple apps. Too much dancing with them trying to get common communication to work and too little visibility into why malfunctions are occurring.
In any case, good luck on this fix. Hope someone can get you rolling.

Can my client add a link when editing text with the content management of Business Catalyst?

I created a site using Muse. My client chose to host with BC and take advantage of the content management option. She has edited text to include her email and wants to create a hyperlink from that text to her actual email. Is this possible and if so, do I need to change the user Permissions to allow her to do this?

Yes, she is editing content in the admin panel, but when she edits the text, she just gets the option to change text and update. There is not a button for hyperlink and then email. It seems like linking, something so simple, should be allowed. What do I need to do to allow this to happen for her?

InDesign crashes when editing text (branched)

using the newest indesign version 752, i have the same problem as described: when i try to edit text, pasted in (from browser, word, etc.), indesign crashes. sometimes it happens, i get into the textbox ...but cannot edit the text ...seems to be locked?
did you found a solution for your problems?

Peter's correct that there is no way to downgrade short of an uninstall/reinstall.
I believe we're in a gray area discussing rapid releases on the public forum.
But let me say that I do not think you have any good reason to downgrade from 7.0.5.571 to 7.0.4.553 and that while you should certainly try it and see, because it might actually work, I would not put any money on it.
More significantly, you're running "+SmartCatalogCore v8.0.4 build 52" and Smart Catalog 8.0.5 is out. So I would upgrade first and then report the crash to Woodwing if it is reproducible.
I don't use SmartCatalog (but I do use SmartConnection), but I'd suggest you may get better support from Woodwing's forums or their actual support (or reseller support) than here. "But maybe not."

Why does idvd quit when i try to add media from iphoto?

In iDVD, whenever I click Media & then click Photos, it looks like i should be able to select items from iPhoto: But if I click any of the top-level items listed like Events or Photos, iDVD quits/closes without any error messages. This happens in both new & existing iDVD projects (I've never actually used iDVD before today). Also, in iMovie I can ony see older Events & photos in iPhoto when I try to add photos to a project. This makes me think there might be something up with my iPhoto software or its data.
I'm pretty sure I'm using the latest versions of iDVD & iPhoto from the old iLife ('08) included with my MacBook Pro: iDVD version 7.1.2 (1158), iMovie version 8.0.6 (821), & iPhoto version 8.1.2 (424), running on Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I assume the Apple Software Update app automatically installed whatever updates I have over the versions that shipped with my computer.

Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.

InDesign becomes unresponsive when editing text off the network. Techs are flummoxed!

Recently my InDesign (CS6 running on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, 8gb ram) has become almost totally unresponsive when I go to open and edit a file off the company network. Our techs have no idea what is going on and are considering having to re-build my profile as a last resort as we have tried everything else.
A bit more of a descriptoin of the problem: When I go to edit an InDesign file off the server it first takes longer than normal to load but eventually does. You can scroll up and down the pages, move and resize boxes, place new pictures but as soon as you try to do anything text based (edit new text or make a new text box) the whole program freezes to the point you have to task manager out and kill it. It is not a corupt file because if I copy the file directory with all links over on to my computers local hard disk the file works totally fine it is only when editing over the network and when edouble clicking to edit text.
What we have done to try and fix the problem:
Reinstal InDesign - No effect
Cleared the preferences (shift + ctrl + alt + windows key on InDesign startup) - No effect
Our techs have tried editing my profile registry to no avail and we are all compleatly at a loss to what is going on. There are several other instances of the program across the company (mainly versions 5.5 and one other 6) and they all work fine editing files straight off the network.
Anyone have any idea what it could be, such a specific problem being only when it is editing text based areas? The techs dont want to have to re-build my profile as it is a lot of back end work to do to be able to re-instate it straight away.

So we have finally fixed the issue and are currently cracking out the bubbly!
It turned out to be the network path shotcut I was using to access the shared drive where I was editing the files from. I work for a restaurant so we have a shared drive where each site can access their files, this is where the food menu files reside and I had created a shortcut that, although accessed the correct area did it using a path which had a double backslash in it.
The true path for the shared drive is \\hm\mydocs\restaurant\menufile.indd and this is the shortcut I was using to open the file up from. For all other files like Word, Excel, even other Adobe programs like PSE10, and Lightroom it seems to work fine. For some reason InDesign does not like this path with the double backslash in. As soon as I changed the shortcut path to just m:\ (the letter of the shared drive on the network) everything was working again and we can all sleep, it was driving us mental. Re-installed windows, InDesign created a new network user profile the works.
I hope this may help someone else in a similar situation in the future

Automatically move layers when editing text

Hello,
I was wondering if it would be possible to do the following:
I have multiple layers next to each other like so:
{text1} {vector-image} {text2}
Between each layer is a specific amount of space. I want to be able to edit {text1} and let {vector-image} and {text2} automatically move to the right when the text becomes longer, and move to the left when shorter.
It makes editing my project a lot easier than just re-doing the distance amount between each layer.
Is this possible ?

CC == Screen gets blank when editing text

I am having this issue with the new PS CC. It happens whenever I try to add/edit a text. Pick the text tool, click onto the work and -- bang! -- the whole work screen gets blank. Depending on the project size it may get stable at a certain ammount of zoom and keep blinking (or go completely blank) at other zoom factors. If I finish text editing the screen gets back to normal. Funny is that if I type something, it will be there, so the problem seems to be with the viewport.
There is someone else out there experiencing the same problem?
PS: Currently I am going to download and install back the CS6 version as the issue reported above does not happen with it.

I have the same thing with editing text as well as cutting out images.
I have a wide screen brand new dell monitor and 12gb ram.
Pretty sure it's not the computer....as yankleber says, CS6 had no issues.
Let us know when it is resolved.....
Update: I managed to get the latest AMD Radeon drivers updated and I must say, so far no problems anymore.
It would be great if somehow during the installation of an update or a new version the install program would tell me, "please update your driver".

Outline box when editing text in PDF using v8

We are running, Windows XP, Acro8 with updates. Created PDF files from within INDCS3. Many of the frames are independent.
When trying to edit the text using the touchup text tool in Acrobat v8, it outlines complete area on the form which are not the same as the frames in INDCS3.
Was this something new in v8 and how could this be removed via preferences.

I am editing a project that is an hour long and I am just trying to add some text to different clips but everytime I try and edit
any text iMovie crashes. WHAT DO I DO???????

It always crashing when I try and adjust the fade in -out of text.

Quits When Editing

When I double-click a thumbnail to edit a photo (or simply choose edit from the toolbar at the bottom) iPhoto QUITS as it tries to load the full size photo. This happens for SOME photos but NOT ALL. Most don't; only certain batches or rolls it seems like.
I tried rebuilding everything by APPLE-OPTION when launching iPhoto but that didn't work...in fact, when I choose Rebuild All Thumnails, iPhoto crashes while it is doing that.
What can I do now?

Have any of those file that cause the crash been edited with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements or are grayscale B/W image files? You may be getting caught by the missing color profile bug. Find one of them by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and select Show File in the Contextual Menu. You'll be taken to the folder where the original file is located. Then download and unzip the Embed sRGB Profile from Toad's Cellar and put it on the Desktop. Now drag that image file onto the application. It will do its job automatically. Now try to edit that file in iPhoto. If it works then the problem was a missing color profile. You can then drag folders of files onto the application to embed the profile into all files in that folder.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. IPhoto quits when editing

iPhoto quits suddenly when I try to edit some pics. I double click on the photo, the editing window open and then iPhoto quits. It doesn't happen in all folders.
I'm working on iPhoto 6.0.5 (316).

In some cases the issue can be caused by iLife's replacement of the AppleAppSupport.framework 1.4 with the older version, 1.2. Some users are able to resolve the problem by replacing the file placed by iLife '06 with the copy available on the Mac OS X installation DVD. This can be accomplished by inserting your Mac OS X 10.4.x retail disc.
And replace AppleAppSupport.framework in System/Library/PrivateFrameworks by the orginal in the installation DVD.
However, this workaround has not proven successful for all users experiencing the issue.

Cant zoom in when editing text

Hello, in the main window, I sometimes magnify by a percentage in order to work in small/detailed areas, but when I choose to create a text layer, it zooms out to a "fit to screen" look, and I cant edit the text while zoomed in/magnifying the main window. Also, half the time when I magnify the screen, the scrolling stops working until i go into the "applied effects" and click a random one, such as "motion". Also, is there a faster way to control magnification than by right clicking and going to the "magnification" section?

There is no magnification in PrE's Titler. There is also none in PrPro's Titler. The best that one can do is to expand the Panel, until Titler's monitor is at its maximum size.
Over the years, I have filed Feature Requests for this capability, but so far, it has not been added.
