IDVD 08 update (blank Preview window)

I am using iDVD08 and when use the software it displays a blank preview window (black screen, sound plays fine). This of course means I cannot create DVD menus, add videos to drop frames etc. Other Forums online say that a software update available for this version of iDVD resolves the problem, however, when i go onto 'Software update' on the apple menu, there doesn't seem to be an update available for iDVD or iLife. I cannot click on check for updates on the iDVD menu. Is there somewhere else i can download this software update from?? The support downloads on the apple website don't seem to have helped, when I have attempted to install them they say that a newer version of the software is already installed.

Try the following:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.

I sent "PDPageNotifyContentsDidChange" notification. It helps to show new element with this colorant in document, but not in OP window.
It is very srange behavior. If you open OP window after adding colorant, OP window show it. If change Simulation Profile from CMYK to RGB (or RGB to CMYK or GS ets.) new colorant will appeared. Workaround: Maybe it posible to change this profile programmatically?
If you open OP window then change in preferences default working space and then open OP window again Simulation Profile won't be changed.

After updates the "preview" window is "hazy" CS 4.2.1

I worked with some .DV files the other day without any issues. Today I applied all updates to Adobe and now the same project that worked just fine the other day is acting weird. The preview video has what looks like a hazy on it and it when previewing a video the sounds works just fine but the video goes to black.
Any ideas. I was going to use windows restore to roll my computer back a few days but it was turned off.

If you sure the update is to blame, just un-install your suite, run Clean CS4 a couple of times, and re-install. Turn your auto Adobe updates off so you can pick and choose the updates you want to apply.
Are you, by any chance, also running after effects??

Imovie '11 blank preview window

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Ghz, 3gb ram, 10.6.8
When trying to play back any clips from camcorder or iphone there is only sound and no video.
This also applies to the movie themes that come with the app.
I recently did a clean install of os and dont wish to do that again, surley that can not be the only answer?
Out of the many threads on this same problem an os install seems to be the only answer.
Please comment or like this if you have this issue...

Thank you for the prompt repsonse. I did update the nVidia driver as Steve suggested, but that did not fix the problem. The problem apparently is related to new mouse driver/software as you had thought might be the case. I had installed a new Microsoft mouse and updated my software to MS Intellipoint 8.0. Reverting back to 5.2 fixed the problem.
Now, is there anyway to inform Adobe of this incompatibility? I have found nowhere to report bugs or incompatibilities. I was lucky that my old mouse came with a software disk and I had run fine with the old mouse and driver/software. New mice just point you to the MS website. So others may well have the same problem as me, but without an old driver/software to fall back on. Since Intellipoint 8 is much newer, I would hope Adobe would want to have PE9 compatible with it.

Smart Sharpen and Reduce Noise preview windows are blank

I am using Photoshop CS5 64 bit with WIndows 7
Whenever I try to use the Smart Sharpen or Reduce Noise image menu items, the preview window for both
these applications are always blank.
My images are mostly 16 bit with some 8 bit but I always get the same blank preview window
Any help would be appreciated

Always check your LAYERS panel to ensure you've activated the image layer on which the pixels reside, and not an adjustment layer. Also make sure you've clicked on the image if there's a layer mask present, so the filter won't be inadvertntly working on the mask.
Assuming you're not on the wrong layer, have you checked to see whether new drivers are available from the web site of the maker of your video card? Many, many display problems are resolved by updating display drivers.

(BUG) Preview Window blank on guide when tuned to Comcast Sportsnet channel!

Here is a bug that I have noticed for a while now! If you have on Comcast Sportsnet Channel 847 here in Philly. And then bring up the full screen guide and click the button on the remote that brings up the little preview window it's just blank. As in just black with no picture. And I think this maybe the only channel that causes this issue. Anyone have seen this? Comcast can it be fixed in a future software update please?

Raw 6.41 update issue blank white window

Prior to Camera Raw 6.41 update, PSE9 Organize opened and performed as designed.
Immediately after the update, and clicking Organize, it opens with an empty white square window appearing to mid right and half outside the PSE9 window.
Organizer will eventually open; however, if one clicks anywhere inside the PSE or blank white square, a dialogue immediately appears noting that PSE is NOT RESPONDING.
Clicking Edit produces no such blank white widow.
Once Edit is open and clicking Organizer, the blank white window does not appear.
I am certain the blank white window is not intended.

I just spent a long time at the Genius Bar trying to figure this out. What finally worked was updating Safari (because iTunes is part of the web browser). So try that.

Thank you for your kind consideration of my problem. Up until the software started to print blank pages the preview pane always showed the selected print within the selected layout. Something has changed. Lightroom will print to the JPEG file but only a blank page on the Epson 2880. I've been in contact with Epson support and an IT tech and they tell me the problem is with Lightroom. I'm at my wits end and thinking of upgrading but the glitch may carry over. Uninstalling and reinstalling and deleting the preferences file did nothing to rectify the situation.

Print preview window is blank

Sometimes when I try to print a PDF from the net my print preview window is blank even though it shows the document might be multipule pages long. The same can happen when trying to print out other things from the net....any ideas out there?

Hi Steve, not sure, but they have ways of preventing you from printing some PDFs, & possibly other ways to obscure it.
Do you have a link to one that shows blank?

Office Preview windows

Hey Guys,
One of the users is having an error when try to open Excel files attached from MS Outlook emails. Apparently, the preview window on the bottom become blank and she can't manage to go through the spreadsheet. I have tried the basic things like update Windows
and Office, change the folder options and make sure there are enough memory RAM and processor resources.

Hi,
Does the issue only happen to Office files? and only those opened directly from Outlook client?
Please first try to update the graphics driver to the latest version and check result.
You might also want to switch to a non-Aero theme, restart the computer then switch back to a Aero theme and see if it helps.

IMovie 11 - Black/Empty Preview Window

This is a problem that arose yesterday and after searching the Internet I can't seem to find an answer other than "You need to re-install the OS" - but obviously that's a last resort for me.
Basically whenever I import a clip in to iMovie 11 the preview window on the right shows up as black - sound doesn't seem to play either.
I'm using iMovie 11 on a 13 inch MacBook Pro using a 2.4Ghz dual core processor (the model that came before the current quad core ones) with 4GB RAM. I've happily been using it without any real problems up until now.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but that doesn't work.
Any solutions? I'd really rather not have to install OS X all over again. Random, nonsensical issues are the reason why I jumped ship to OS X.
Update: The preview box now shows a preview image, but it's a frame of a video that I did not import in to iMovie. http://i51.tinypic.com/2mg3uh.jpg

well... after a lot of trial and error, with a similar problem...
I have narrowed mine down to 2 differnet approaches that work (anything else results in black/blank video in preview and export)
If the photos already fit the proper aspect ratio (i.e. cropped in iphoto to 16:9 already)
- setup project with NO transitions when you define it to start with
- before you import anything, turn ken burns off, set it to "fit image" or whatever
Regardless of size/shape of image
- setup the project WITH transitions (i've just used the default Disolve i think it was)
- leave ken burns ON...
Bottom line, if i try to turn off Ken Burns AND have it Crop the photo.... i'm dead in the water... and the transitions seem to be tied with Ken Burns.... either take em both or neither....
of course your mileage may vary... but maybe that will help someone .... or maybe apple will read it and fix it

System Preferences opens to a blank, white window

I erased my drive when I set up a Dual 2.7GHz G5 tower for sale, and installed Leopard. Updated to 10.5.4. Then found that when I open System Preferences, I get a blank white window. I can go to the dock item and click to select a particular tab, but it only changes the window size. It is still all white.
The menu bar items also display only white. Any ideas??? I'm stumped. Also sold the G5, so must get it fixed ASAP.

I don't know if this will help: it used to work well in 10.3 and earlier, and quite often in 10.4.
Strange behaviour by System Preferences can often be fixed by trashing com.apple.preferencepanes.cache in Home > Library > Caches folder. Trash com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache as well if you have it.
If this alone doesn't fix things after a logout/login, then trash them again (because it will have regenerated more bad files), together with com.apple.systempreferences.plist in Home > Library > Preferences folder, and in the Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder, the files com.apple.systempreferences.xxxxxx.plist, where xxxxxx = a hexadecimal numeric string.
You need to log out and log back in again for this to have any effect (or restart if you prefer).
If none of this helps, you will need to look in your log files to find out why your preference panes are not opening: the simplest way to do this is to use Console.
Open the Console application from /Applications/Utilities. It will default to showing the "Console Messages" and possibly the "system.log". Use the File menu if necessary to get both these logs open, and use the Broom tool to Clear both windows.
Now try to open System Preferences and see what appears in either of these windows. Copy and paste it here.
You may see a message saying "Crash report written to <pathname of crash.log>". If so, click on the "Logs" icon at the top left in the tool bar (preferably in another window). Then, depending on the <pathname of crash.log> in your message, look under either ~/Library/Logs or /Library/Logs by clicking the disclosure triangle, then click the disclosure triangle for "CrashReporter".
Find the crash log corresponding to your message and select it. It will open at the end of the log. Look back for the last line of asterisks in the log, then post everything after that to the end of the log.

What is this white line under my preview window?

I accidentally hit T while editing and suddenly there were 2 preview windows in my preview window. I hit T again and it went back to 1 but now there's a white line under my preview screen. What is it? And did it do something to my image? How do I remove it? And what does T do in adobe premiere? And what were those 2 preview images in my preview window?

Dont think you have to worry about the white line. I think the program monitor is not updating correctly. Resizing the window should fix that.

IMovie 11 projects no longer working, preview window is glitched or black, event library not playing imported vids

I am having a lot of trouble with iMovie 11. I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" for the sole purpose of editing surgical videos for work. iMovie 11 was working great initially for me (taking full length surgical video - up to 2 hours) and editing these down to anywhere from 5 to 30 min videos highlighting crucial steps for the surgeries along with transitions, ken burns, etc (with the plan of overlaying narrative voice-over later). I had about 15 of these videos edited sitting in my Project Library and multiple imported videos (dvd to m4v via handbrake then imported via iMovie 11) in my Project Library. Now none of my projects play in the preview window, it's either black or a weird glitchy picture (like messed up pic of my doc or desktop... really weird) and only about 2 of my imported videos play in the project library, otherwise they are just black when I roll over them. My projects are still intact as far as edited clip lengths and transitions, but nothing plays, even in full screen mode. I tried making a new project and the imported video shows in the event library but when I add it to a project it's black (but does play in full screen mode, but impossible to edit this way). I think the audio is actually intact although i'm not positive because these videos don't have any audio (there's some baseline level that fluctuates on the audio bars).
I tried finalizing and exporting a project as an m4v (one that was a combination of two edited imported videos - one of the source imported vids working in the event library and the other not working) and the first half is all glitched up with no surgery video, but the second half is there with the transitions and everything (the half that is working in the event library). This part does not show up when I am trying to edit the project.
fyi - I had deleted some of the videos from my event library to unclutter a little some time ago, the projects were still working after that.
I can find all of my imported videos (in .mov format) that should be working in the event library when I look in the folder:
users/me/movies/iMovie events
If someone could please help me resolve this issue, I would really appreciate it. I put a lot of work and time into these videos and it would be near impossible to start from scratch (which would probably be on some other movie editor like windows movie maker since my iMovie is not working properly even for new projects). I'm hoping this is just some sort of glitch that can be fixed and my projects are still salvagable. I can't remember if this started after I did a system software update or not. This will be a huge dissapointment for me in the Apple platform if I have to scrap my projects because I had just switched over from the PC platform.
I even got Norton antivirus and internet security to make sure I don't have some sort of weird virus.
I have a Feb 2011 15 in MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz, 4 g RAM, 750 g HD, 1 g vid card. iMovie ver 9.0.4. Lion 10.7.2

Did you by any chance upgrade your Mac OS from version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion) during the time you were working in iMovie on all these projects?
If not, start by deleting the iMovie Preferences file.
Go to the Desktop
Hold down the Option key and choose the Go Menu > Library
Go to Preferences > com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Move the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Project files react any differently. Failing that try doing a Repair Disk Permissions:
Restart the Mac, hold down the Option key continuously until 2 hard drive icons appear
Choose the Recovery Volume as your startup disk and let it run until you see the Desktop
Choose Disk Utility from the Recovery Menu
Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Reboot the Mac and when you see the Desktop appear launch iMovie
See if the Project files are the same or different. Next step after this is to one at a time take the Project folders out of users/me/movies/imovie projects. Move one to the desktop and start iMovie. Try skimming the projects that acted up recently. Moving one project at a time might help isolate which project may be causing problems. You can also place project folders back in their original location after doing this testing and iMovie will recognize them on the next relaunch. It won't hurt anything.

Solved. The ISO is corrupt.
The SHA 1 Hash of the ISO was 57CF28106EA096758AD6AB909F226A3468D95A49
and the downloaded one returned 8ab9b5ff10da1c33bb3f088331a7c8d8.
