IDVD 3.0 upgrade

Hello. I have recently purchased a Sony DRX-840U External DVD Burner since My G4 does not have a Superdrive. I have iDVD 3.0 and have not been able to Burn My Videos from iMovie to Disc. I have read that unless one has iDVD 6.0 or later this will not happen. Is this correct and can I upgrade on the Apple Website to iDVD 6.0 and does it cost? If I upgrade does this fix the Problem?
Can I do all the Fancy stuff like add Themes to My iMovie also? Thanks.

I am having the same problem with iDVD 4. i cannot get it to even load onto the lap top. Get OS 10.4, upgrade it and upgrade quicktime for free and purchase the iLife 08 package. You should be able to upgrade OS 10 to 10.4.11. I going to have to do that to get it in. It has some great updated features and very much more then iDVD 3 and even 4.

  • Will I lose iDVD if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks?

I am getting ready to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mavericks, and I have a few questions on my MacBookPro.
    1) Is there a way to keep iDVD when I upgrade?
    2) How does Microsoft Office 2008 play with Mavericks, specifically Word and Entourage?
    3)  Is there any reason NOT to upgrade?  I have already done a complete backup using Time Machine.

    Carolyn,
Thank you for the answer.  Um, I am not sure what it said  . . . However, I did do more checking on exactly which model I have.  On the chart, the Model Identifier MacBookPro5,3 was listed, but not 5,4.
This is what hardware I have:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 3 MB
      Memory: 4 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
      SMC Version (system): 1.49f2
How do I tell what will and won't work well with Mavericks?  I don't know if 1) I should upgrade, and 2) what should I upgrade to, based on the information you listed in your tips.
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Trouble opening up old iDVD projects after upgrading

Forgive me if this has been discussed but I took a quick look through the messages and I didn't find what I needed.
I have some old iDVD projects that do not open under iDVD 6.01 (yes, I have the update.) It is as if my old themes (specifically "Baby Blue") have been erased. Is there some way to download them from the Apple site?
Also, if I may, I want to pick a nit about iDVD. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is wrong for the program to force you to use a pre-defined theme, even if it is customizable to the point of non-recognizition. If you somehow loose the old template or move the file to a new machine with no old templates, you're screwed unless you want to go through all the work of redoing your project.
    Thanks.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Many people have had troubles with older projects opening in iDVD 6...including my one left-over project that was finished.
This is one reason you should finish a project, create a disk image, save the disk image, before "upgrading."
If you somehow loose the old template or move the file to a new machine with no old templates, you're screwed unless you want to go through all the work of redoing your project.
If you creat an Archive of the project, it should contain everything you need.

  • What happened to my iDVD on Lion upgrade?

I'm uncertain if iDVD was corrupted or nuetered when upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion, but it is no longer able to burn a standard DVD+R as it once did. It appears to be working, howerever it ejects the disc with one minute remaining. It will not open in iMovie (unsupported) showing 8 sec's in length and does not play on a multi format DVD player conneted to my TV. The disc does have the shading of being burned on the bottom side. I see a number of issues people have written about, some claiming Apple basically missed the boat or abandoned iDVD altogether (oversight or arrogance). The only informaion I have not found is how to correct it. Can this be corrected (i.e., Mavericks..?) or do I need to buy another program and forget it?
[Note, I changed my operating system to show 10.8.5 (below) 4 times, and it still appears as 10.5.8...]

It could be an encoding problem or a burning problem Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IDVD audio sync problems after Lion upgrade

    Hi all,
I posted this in the Lion discussion, but thought I might have a go here as well. I'm having problems with iDVD and audio sync as follows...
I often download files from my Beyonwiz PVR, convert them to mpeg and DV files using MPEG Streamclip (with Quicktime MPEG playback component), then burn a disc with iDVD. Since upgrading to Lion, I notice that the audio in these files, and the burnt DVD in particular, can be slightly out-of-sync with the video. Although the effect is slight, I find it very unacceptable - its like trying to watch something that been badly dubbed. I find it to be a very jarring effect to watch voices and intonation out of sync with the picture.
I'm not sure where the problem lies - is it Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip, and/or iDVD ? I never had this problem at all with Snow Leopard.
    Fox

I've discovered that the problem appears to be the conversion of the mpeg file to the DV file. The video/audio goes slightly out of sync using MPEG Streamclip under Mac OS Lion. I never had any problem with Snow Leopard. I'll have to try different conversion methods and see what happens...

  • IDVD won't ecode audio, 'not responding' = force quit

    IDVD 6 /10.4.7/MACPRO
iDVD won't encode audio portion from iMovie had off.
original iMovie from DV camera, iMove encodes QT, etc
iDVD encodes video ( as noted by time bar) but when it gets to the audio portion it stops responding and then I have to forcve quit.
repaired persmissions, and delited the iDVD.plist
any thing I can do? iDVD 6 is the first time I used this after update

    Scooper,
iDVD is "not" slow (nor fast) encoding (actually transcoding) audio. iDVD relies on the Quicktime framework. iDVD invokes an external library from the set of resources provided by QT.
If the encoding appears to be slow. It may find its root in various origins. First, MacOSX is a Unix system. Unix is not "preemptive". It means that access to resources occurs thanks to a "good will" mode between processes (to make things short). So, it may appear that some processes are stale, but things are usually well under control (by the kernel). So, don't be hasty in killing a process reported as "not responding".
If you consider that the encoding process takes too much time, there are ways to make things better. First: More RAM. No workaround to that. Give some room to your Mac. Keep also in mind to keep free room on hard drive at least equal to 2 1/2 times the amount of RAM of your system. The Unix kernel of your Mac handles a "swap" that is used to virtually create an amount of RAM larger than what your system physically has. The kernel simply uses your hard-drive as buffer to store copies of RAM blocks occupied by portions of code or data not currently active. If all this is too small, the kernel will spend an awful amount of time dealing with the short space (RAM + free disk space for swap).
One way to figure out if you're in such case is to use one of the many administration tools available to you. Open Terminal (or a X11 xterm) and type 'top' (without quotes).
Check the last line of the header for the "pageouts" indicator. If the number in parenthesis is not zero (0), repeatedly, it means that your kernel is swapping memory block from the physical RAM to the virtual RAM stored on the hard drive (swapping).
Hit 'q' to quit top. You can also try 'top -o cpu'. This will get you which process is currently running requesting the most CPU resources. Normally, on a Unix system, if one process needs CPU and is mostly the only one at the moment asking for CPU, it can be allocated most of the available CPU time and jumps to over 80%. If you consider this "abnormal", just look at the "Load Avg." indicator. It tells you how many processes are "waiting" for their turn to access the CPU - it's averaged throughout the time, through 3 numbers. Remember the "good will" mechanism. If it remains low (up to 3, for a household Mac), then, do not worry. If it goes above, then try to quit some other user applications. An idle system reports numbers below 1.
These few sysadmin tips will tell you a lot about your system's health. Perhaps, you'll figure out by yourself what's wrong. For sure, not iDVD
Try perhaps upgrading to QT 7. There are benefits to that.

  • Since upgrading to Lion iphone sync causes unrecoverable crash

Basically when trying to sync iPhone my entire system crashes/freezes requiring a hard reset.
I had previously posted an unresolved fault that was similar with Time Machine. I ended up resorting to buying a Firewire 800 drive instead of the USB one I was using and Time Machine is now working correctly.
HOWEVER, I cannot sync my iPhone 3G. The sync starts but the computer completely freezes. I have tried reinstalling iTunes 10.6 but this had no effect.
I have tried resetting the sync data as per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627 but this has not worked.
Bizzarrely I have been able to restore a previous iPhone backup but am unable to do a Sync.
USB devices seem to be OK excepting the HDD whcih i have abandoned.
I am pretty staggered that there are so many people experienceing problems after upgrading to Lion. This is a fairly new macbook pro i5 so it really shouldn't be an issue. Its clearly a software glitch but I have very little to go on. Nothing is written to Console before the crash so there is nothing much to go on there.
If anyone can suggest a remedy i;d be pleased to know.
Look forward to hearing form you

  • IDVD will no longer open or start

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I'm still looking for an answer. I have an Intel-based MBP, running Snow Leopard from a fresh install(not an upgrade install).
I cannot get iDVD to open. When I click on the icon in Applications, I get the initial splash screen, but when I try to create a new project, entering the title, as soon as I press create, the screen disappears, the icon for iDVD remains in the dock, and nothing further happens.
I'm using iDVD 7.04. My MBP has all current updates. I have tried all suggestions offered on the forums, and online, as near as I can tell, with no success.
When I try to quit iDVD, as started above, I'm asked if I want to save my uncompleted project. I always have to force quit at this point.
I was able to use iDVD before my upgrade to SL. I do not install all of the applications from iLife, as packaged with my MBP. Could it be something I'm missing when I do an Install/Erase to install SL? Should I install all applications in iLife, even though I have no use for Garage Band, ect., just to see if that helps? Is it just SL creating problems?
    Thank you for youre help!!
Again, none of the suggested fixes here have helped. I have no trouble with my MBP, or SL, otherwise.....

  • IDVD 5 won't start, icon bounces and dies

I'll repost another person's post, since I cannot improve on the question. He didn't receive an answer, but that was way back in January.
    Here's his post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1489142#1489142
I'm afraid I've tried all the odd little fixes, deleting library/preferences/ file; fixed all the permissions on all the disks; rebooted; reinstalled iDVD, reinstalled Tiger, upgraded, searched this discussion group numerous times... still get a couple bumps from the icon, and nothing. No iDVD starts, and the crash log contains about the same results as this gentleman's does.
The key issue I'm seeing is "image not found". Very not good.
His log results, same as mine:
When I attempt to launch iDVD I get the following error in the console...

You know, Sue? I think you may have hit on the basic issue. I was reading it as iDVD image not found. But you correctly recognized the crash log is in fact saying the library that is corrupted... Possibly from my time spent installing X11/unix applications.
    An intimidating booger up.
    So, for others' reference:

  • IDVD and Mountain Lion...again

Sorry to bring this up again, but I have been unable to find a solution elsewhere in the forum.
Just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro for my wife (Mountain Lion already installed), and also upgraded the OS in my 17" MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion.  Of course, iDVD has disappeared.  Are there workable alternatives to iDVD?  Is iDVD that is compatible with Mountain Lion available somewhere?  I (like so many others) have a need to be able to burn DVDs and am at a loss as to what to do next.
    Advice, please!

OK, I understand your dilemma. For what it's worth, iDVD version 7 still works with Mountain Lion.
You have to buy it from an aftermarket vendor, but the price is still fairly reasonable. Here is one source:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/
iLife 09 (and I have heard, though not personally confirmed, iLife 08) contains the same version of iDVD. They may be slightly less expensive.
When you get the disc, install only the iDVD app, then upgrade it here:
    iDVD 7.1.2
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1414
I also seem to recall hearing that Mountain Lion may object to iDVD having "expired" and will refuse to install it. I cannot find that post at the moment, but I recall the solution was to set your Mac's clock back a year or so and try again.

  • Exporting keynote to iDVD audio is out of sync with presentation

I am working in Keynotes '09 I have a presentation that is time perfectly when I run the slide show. I have a totally different problem when sending it to iDVD or to Quicktime the recorded audio is out of timing with the presentation. I tried everything but nothing seems to be working, Tech Support can't seem to help me out. The problem is not within Keynotes as far as I can tell. It plays fine in Keynotes. It is happening in the export via QuickTime or to iDVD. Does anybody have a clue as to how I can resolve this issue. Audio is checked when syncing there is sound in iDVD it is completely out of sync with the bullets point and overlapping spoken text from sentence to the next. I used an AAc Encoder on the spoken text synced into itune placed spoken text in to keynotes. should I have used MP3 encoding? that is the only thing I have not tried.

What is the best dvd burning program with a nice menu like idvd that works with Final cut pro, I am wanting to burn mainly wedding dvds but also sports and other things we used to use idvd but then upgraded our computers and now we dont have it. idvd was the only thing i could find that worked.

There is no real substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Import imovie09 to iDVD

Have created DVD's using iMovie08 and iDVD. Now upgraded to iMovie09 (8.0.6) in order to get selectable chapter headings and updated iDVD (7.0.4). However when importing 50 min./1GB iMovie09 project that has been converted to media browser iDVD will not accept media as it says it is an unrecognised format. So try using iDVD export from iMovie09 and this takes 45 mins. then at the end error message says not recognised as a movie and is not accepted by iDVD when you drag to drop zone.
How do I get iDVD to accept the iMovie project?
    Thanks

    Hi ocloudsunfold
Welcome to apple discussions. Not sure if converting with Mpeg-Streamclip will help in this situation but it might be worth a try:

Please make sure to read requirements carefully prior to installing should you wish to use this free download.

  • IDVD Re-install Corrupts User Account

Hi all-- in a nutshell, I seem to have a corrupted account, but only affecting iDVD.
I upgraded to iDVD '08 (from '06) and had major problems finishing a burn. I kept getting "multiplexing and formatting" errors at the end of the encoding. So... I deleted all traces (including .plist files) of iDVD and re-intalled iDVD '06.
Now it won' open at all in my main log-in account, but it bounces a couple of times, tries to open, then crashes. It does open fine in other user accounts. Any idea how to fix this account short of re-installing OS X?
    Thx. --Scott

Yah-- ya got a good point there.
I have since determined that at least part of my problem was the media I was using. Even on my "test" account I had many failures until I switched media brands. Today I re-upgraded to '08 and was successful with the different media, so maybe for now I am OK. Never did get '06 to open, but thanks for the help.
