IDVD 5 and LOSS of older themes

I've seen some things floating around here about lost themes. Have tried most of them without success.
My issue: I upgraded to Tiger. Then decided to wipe the drive and start over. Copied Users data over to second drive and brought back across after the reinstall.
1. I had previously installed iLife04 and upgraded to iLife05
2. After the wipe and reinstall of the OS, I had to reinstall iLife05. I opened up a recently created DVD and had used a 3.0 theme (never having iLife03) with the error "cannot find theme - family"
Actually, none of the 3.0 themes are available.
I've trashed 05, reinstalled 04, upgraded to 05, updated 05 and still, no 3.0
themes.
THEY HAVE TO BE SOMEWHERE!
Still have the old "Users" data on the second drive, hoping that something is there for me to get these themes back.
Any help would be appreciated.

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
avoid lossy inbetween formats, as mp4 ...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

  • I updated my OS from 10.6.4., to 10.8.2 I want to buy iDVD and I Movie, but bought iPhoto and can't get it to work yet.  Hesistant to buy the others without now having the original applications on my laptop. Do I need to buy the older versions first?

I updated my OS from 10.6.4., to 10.8.2.  I want to buy iDVD and iMovie, but I bought iPhoto and can't get it to work yet.  I'm hesitant to buy the others without now having the original applications on my laptop. Do I need to buy the older versions first?  They are probably on my Snow Leopard install disc, but I am now running Mt Lion that I bought, and downloaded a few days ago...so I don't want to insert the old OS disc, thinking it might want to reinstall the old OS...  Thanks,

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Where are iDVD and iMovie themes?

I've re-build my hard drive on my iMac (Intel), System 10.5.8.
I've got iPhoto, iDVD and iPhoto working from my backup disc, but I can't find the 'themes'.
They must be on the backup disc somewhere?
    Any ideas?

Where are the audio clips stored that go with some of the themes?
The .theme is also a package, you use the same CTRL-click, show package contents trick to get inside. Some of the themes have the audio as separate audio file, you can tell with the .aif extension, but some of them a muxed .mov file. You need QuickTime Pro or some other tools to get the audio out.

  • IDVD and its themes ...

Most of the time my iDVD 6.0.2 (and yes I have QT 7.1.2) tells me it cannot find the theme(s) used when I open a DVD project (whether it has been archived or not) and suggests the (null) theme. Then, whether I choose OK or Cancel, the main window pops up (create a new project, open a project, create a magic DVD, ...), and after having clicked on open a project and chosen again the project I initially tried to open, the theme message comes back followed by either a never ending spinning coloured ball or a sudden quit. I've tried deleting preferences and caches (~>Library>Caches>com.apple.idvd), I have even did a full reinstall of iDVD 6 and upgrade it to 6.0.2. Still the same.
The only strange thing is that I have two Themes folders: one in Library at the root (Library>Application Support>iDVD>Themes) with four sub-folders (iDVD 3, 4, 5 & 6) and one in my user Library (~/Library>Application Support>iDVD>Installed Themes) with only 3 sub-folders (the same without iDVD 6). I had iLife 05 installed previously.
This is rather annoying because it prevents you to work on a project on several occasions, unless re-creating all the menu pages each time (the (null) theme gives you a black screen and blocks the visualisation since no button appears ...).

Thank you for informing me of this thread. However, it does not really resolve my problem. Though I've read in this thread thar the themes shoulkd also be in Contents>Resources folder of the iDVD package. I do not know if people there refer to iDVD 5 or earlier, but in this Resources folder I have 652 items but no dedicated Themes folder, only a few files/packages in Resources cover themes (according to their name). Since I did a clean reinstall of iDVD 6 (see my first post) after having removed iDVD app. as well as its preferences, caches and themes files I'm wondering why my Resources folder should be 'incomplete'.

  • HT2476 new Mac mini, outdated iDVD and iMovie HD with OSX 10.8.2; fix ?

    I have a brand new Mac mini and during set up I imported settings from a Macbook running 10.5.8; now the iDVD and iMovie HD apps are outdated and the settings do not allow updates to the current version compatible with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2;
    How do I fix this?

In my case, the .dmg can only be installed if iLife 08 is installed, so I install iLife 08 (nothing works from that in ML, but it doesn't matter), then install the 6.04 .dmg, and then update the entire iLife with 09 and then 11, running software update in between. At that point, every app works. During that process, the new iMovie versions will be installed and automatically create a previous version folder for 6.04.
    Right now I have a Powerbook G4.
I'll be purchasing a new iMac (Mountain Lion) in the coming months.  I would like to put both iMovie HD6 and the last version of iDVD on it.  I've read numerous threads on the iDVD installation.  I'm trying to make sure I understand all the steps to getting both applications installed and working correctly.
I have the install disks for
iLife 08 (says it can install on both PPC and Intel Macs)
    iLife 09  (with iDVD)
iLife 11  (older version with iDVD)
I certainly remember disliking iMovie 7 and therefore used the download from Apple to revert back to 6.0.4 on my Powerbook.  I did a search and happened to find in my Library an installer package labeled iMovie HD6 (the file info says version 6.0.4 and it's dated Feb 2008). Is this what I would have used to go back to iMovie HD6 from iMovie 7?  I also found a ton of other installer packages that I had no idea my powerbook must have automatically saved.  Included were numerous iDVD 7 update installers.
So would I take these steps on the new iMac with Mountain Lion?
Use the iLife 08 disk to do a custom install of only iMovie (or does the 6.0.4 installer only work if you've installed the entire iLife 08?)
Run the installer package iMovieHD6  to revert from iMovie 7 to HD6
Use the iLife 09 disk to do a custom install of iDVD
Update iDVD by running the update packages and then using the iLife 11 disk to ensure I get all the themes available for iDVD
Run software update to bring everything up-to-date
I happened to do an install of only iDVD from iLife 11 (iDVD) on another IMac running Mountain Lion and found that I had no choice but to install iPhoto along with it.  Since that was an older version I then had to do a reinstall of the current iPhoto from the App store.
    Do these steps sound logical?

  • Older Theme Import?

Since my video is all SD, I plan to use 4:3 rather than 16:9 projects. The 4:3 themes don't seem to have been installed by default, but instead must be downloaded from the internet or installed from the application DVD. Trouble is, the way it attempts to download them uses Software Update, which (correctly) determines that my software is up-to-date and refuses to download anything. When I try to use the application DVD to install the themes to my iDVD 7.0.4, it gives me this error: "This update requires iDVD version 7.0 or newer."
I'm stumped. Any idea how I can get those older themes?

Kool! Glad you got it working.

  • Closing Stock in Profit and Loss A/C

    Hi Experts,
I have an issue regarding Closing Stock Which is normally followed in Indian Accounting System . This Closing Account is Sum of Raw Materials, Finished Goods, Work In Progress. But unfortunately B1 does not maintain two different accounts for Raw Materials and Finished Goods . Same Inventory Account is followed and effected for both of them . Our need is to track two different G/L Accounts , One for Finished Goods and one For Finished Goods . All the Transactions such as GRPO, A/P Invoice should effect Raw Materials Account and Transactions such as receipt from production and Sales transactions should effect Finished Goods A/C . seperately. Currently in both the cases same Account i.e Inventory account is only effected .
Moreover We need to have Closing Stock Balance (Raw Materials + WIP+Finished Goods) at Income Side of Profit and Loss Report .
Plz provide me some suggestions and guidance for how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Pooja,
Can u try the following and see if it works...
Create 2 different accounts,, and create 2 different warehouses link each account to each warehouse... and use one warehouse for Raw materials and the other for Finished goods.
    Hope it helps,
    Vasu Natari.

  • I have produced several short iMovie projects and want to link them into a continuous stream on a DVD.  Can it be done?  All of the projects are in my Moblie Me Gallery

I have produced several short (2 to 3 minute) iMovie projects and want to link them in a continuous stream on a DVD.  The clips are in my Mobile Me gallery.  How can it be done?

You can do that too, it's all in the iDVD program.
But first you want to assemble the separate clips into one big long clip. For that you would use iMovie. Share to the Media Browser (choose the Large size). Let it export then quit iMovie.
Open iDVD, click on the Media button and then the Movies button. Under the iMovie star icon you will see your final assembled clips movie. In the iDVD project window turn on the map view (it's little boxes that look like a flowchart) then drag the iMovie project into the first box:
You can set the project to startup without a Menu, and then loop continuously as well. Go up to the Advanced Menu then click on the Loop movie option to turn it on.
Once checked the Loop movie status will appear as curved arrow icon in the Project Window:
In the lower right corner is the icon indicating this video clip will loop while being played.

  • I have two seperate itunes account and want to transfer them both to one of my two macs

I have a 2006 15" Macbook pro with one itunes account, I have purchased a 13"macbook pro with my new itunes account, and wish to comine them both on one. I am giving the other to my daughter and need to pull my purchased music and my libray off to creat a new one for her. any advice is much appericted, Thanks again.

Make sure both computers are set up to share their library on the local network.
iTune>Preferences>Sharing>Share my library on my local network.
Then, using the computer that you want to have the media on for yourself, go to the other computer's library, it should appear under Shared on the left, select everything you want to import and click "Import".
When it's done you can delete it all from the other computer, then you can just sign out of iTunes.
If you didn't do so previously, you'll want to authorize the computer that now has all the media on it with the older iTunes account.
         Store>Authorize this computer.

  • How can I make more than 9 chapters in IDVD? None of the themes will let me..

I am making a dvd of our home movies for each year. I have divided the movies up by month and am trying to make a simple dvd using one of the themes and have one chapter for each month. For example I made an imovie of all the january videos and saved it as an mp4 file. I drag that into the dvd menu screen for the theme I picked on IDVD and name that chapter "January" Everything works great until I have the first 9 months and it won't let me drag any more movies over to make the last 3 chapters for the last 3 months. I haven't been able to find a theme even going back to the oldest ones that allows 12 chapters.. can anyone help me on this one?

I suggest you repost your question in the iDVD section.

  • I was having problems burning DVDs' fro iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK?

I was having problems burning DVDs' from iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault.
I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK? I have seen these with SATA is this the correct cable for my mac?
I have also tried the Mac superdrive but my imac wont recognise it as it's been configured for macbook air and mini mac. I know I can "make" it work by doing something or other in com.apple/plist, but dont want to mess about in there.
I'm also told an external drive would work but does "mac compatible" mean only for air and mini as their own superdrive is or all macs?
Any help appreciated before I convince myself mac is no better than windows pc!

Thanks but this didn't really help.
I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!
    But thanks

  • Installed iDVD and now I have lost iPhoto

I have an iMac 27" late 2013. I was wanting to burn some dvd's and installed iDVD, while working with iDVD I received a notice that iPhoto could not be opened because it may be damaged or incomplete...Can I get it back???

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • From iMovie I select share iDVD, and then mouse spins forever in iDVD

from iMovie I select share iDVD, and then mouse spins forever......
Note: this only occurs for one of my movies, because the other iMovie projects open iDVD ok. I have also tried an archived copy of this movie and the same problem occurs. I notice in the backgound that iMovie is access iDVD for a long time (2-3 minutes), and then I can access iMovie again. However iDVD spins the mouse forever until I Option-Apple-Escape and end iDVD.
    I am running:
    iMovie Ver.# 6.03(267.2) and
    iDVD Ver.# 6.04(797)
    1) Is the problem iMovie or iDVD or the specific iMovie file which could be corrupted? Should I try and export this corrupted iMovie file into another file name?
    2) Can I reset the preferences for iMovie and iDVD? And how do I do that?
    3) Can I re-install iMovie and/or iDVD, and do I use my original DVD?

    Hi
    a. I don't ever use the Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie.
    I do.
    • close iMovie
    • open iDVD
    • Import or just drop the movie into iDVD
    b. Clearing iDVD
    • Delete iDVD pref file
    • Start iDVD
    • Start a new project
    Else read.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
    Yours Bengt W
