IDVD 5 Pioneer DVR 109 and OS 10.4.3: Double layer support ?

My Pioneer DVR 109 (non Apple firmware) hasn´t been recognized by iDVD as a double layer drive. I heard rumors that from 10.4.3 on many non Apple drives will be supported by the system and indeed when clicking the profiler it now says APPLE SUPPORTED instead of VENDOR SUPPORTED. Unfortunately, when opening iDVD there is still only the 4 GByte option available. Any thoughts or ideas what this means?
Thanks and regards
Wolfgang Fogel

If you happened to buy your 109 from MCE Technologies, or some other vendor that provided an installer to provide iDVD native double layer support, use the uninstaller supplied by the vendor (or call their tech support department).
If I understand it properly the file that was modified under these schemes was System/library/frameworks/DiskRecording.frameworks/Version/A/Frameworks /DiscRecordingEngine.framework/Version/A/Resources/
VendorSupport.drprofile. The original should have been renam ed,saved and replaced with one from the vendor.
Now you will need to restore the original.

  • Pointing iDVD to Pioneer DVR-111D?

I've installed a second newer Superdrive in my MDD G4. It is a Pioneer DVR-111D. How do I change the preference in iDVD to burn a file with my new drive? With iDVD open and a disc in the new drive, iDVD only accesses my older Pioneer 104 and asks me to insert a disc.

What version of iDVD are you using? Version 6 has support for non-Apple installed drives. Can the drive burn from iTunes (for example)? Select the new drive in iTunes' preferences and see if iDVD sees the drive. When I was on 10.3.9 this is what I did to get iDVD to see the new drive.

  • Firmware for DVR-109?

Where do you find the firmware update for a Pioneer DVR-109. I found it on the pioneer website but it was a download for windows. I have a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3 (early 2005 model) and It wont recognize Memorex 16x media in Toast 7. It will only allow me to burn @ 12x. The Apple rep at Comp USA said that all media is compatible with PowerMacs these days. I need help. Thanks.

  • Beige G3 AIO with Pioneer DVR-110D not booting OS X 10.2 retail install CD

for some reason my Pioneer DVR-110D wont boot the 10.2 retail install cd's i have it will boot the OS 9.2.1 retail install cd's just fine. the only way i can boot the OS X install cd's is if i hold the command-control-power key's for 5 second's after the normal attempt to boot the cd normaly.
but during the file copying during the install it stall's out. the only way i can install OS X is if i put the orignal 24x cd-rom drive and then it will boot normaly and install normaly.
the same goes with trying to install tiger useing Xpostfacto4 but it will boot into the installer with no problem but durring the install the Pioneer will stall and will go no further during the copy prosses i can however install useing the orignal cd-rom drive
but after i get tiger installed i cant mount any disk's with either the normal cd-rom or the pioneer DVR-110D and the same goes with my other AIO i have. I dont have the disk mounting problem in OS X 10.2 or 10.2.8.
also i figured out why i was having a wake up freeze in OS 9.2.2 with the Pioneer DVR-110D there is a extention conflict happening some where with the apple cd/dvd driver extention. i disables the apple cd/dvd driver extention and rebooted amd put the system to sleep and it woke up fine but it wouldent mount any disk's cause of the extention being disabled so i rebooted and back to the wakeup freeze.
the only way to get around the wakup freeze i was having in OS 9.2.2 is to open the energy saver window and set the hdd to never fall asleep and have the monitor the only thing that sleep's and let the system idle to sleep.
sorry for the long post guy's/and gal's

From what I've read, many beiges had problems booting the 10.2 installer. I didn't have any problems booting 10.2 installer with this drive and it installed perfectly fine. However, after it installed, I couldn't actually boot into the OS, I got as far as the gray screen and it stopped and wouldn't go any further. I could boot the 10.4.3 disc as well, but as you said, the installation always stalled at "installing base system" and would go no further. I installed it by pulling my HD and hooking it up in my dad's G4, then brought it back to my computer. That worked great and 10.4.3 ran wonderfully. I just last night upgraded to 10.4.4 and it is snappy as well, however, I still have the problem with the DVR-110D. My drive will not copy large files (over 5MB) from a disc to the HD. I can mount discs and read them, but after a bit of time, it stops working entirely and won't mount discs at all. I have not tried the beta version of xpostfacto, I thought I had that version until I checked it just now. Perhaps a trip to the site to download the beta is in order. Also, the drive works great under 9.2.2, just as yours does, so I know it is not a drive error and has to be something with the Beige G3 architecture and Tiger, something is not communicating correctly. I've posed the question previously (which wasn't answered yet) about whether or not an 80 wire ATA cable would make a difference? Perhaps the 66mhz bus speed is not sufficient to have info flow from the drive to the HD? I don't know and I'm getting frustrated because I know this is a good drive! Hope we can figure it out!

  • Pioneer DVR-112 not working

    Hi guys
i've recently ask in the forum for expanding my G5 and G4, because the DVD-RW stop working on both. I've bought a Pioneer DVR-112 and install it on the G4 (under panther). Startup the mac and it was there on the system profiler, but when i'd tryed to open the tray, it couldn't go out because it was getting jammed bye the mac tower (some plastic thinggis around the drive hole), so i've notice that the previous DVD-RW didn't had the front part on the drive that says DVD-RW and all the stuff. So, shutdown the mac and removed the drive to see what it can be done. Installed again and now the mac don't recognize the drive.
What can i do to fix this?.
    Thanks!!

    Hi-
The tray cover, and the face bezel, are both just clipped on. Carefully extend the tray, and the tray cover should be remove-able by releasing one side (top or bottom, I forget) first.
The PRAM and PMU will not affect any files. There are certain settings that will need to be reset (time, date, startup disk preference, etc.), but there is no ill effect to the stored data.

  • Will not share Imovie with Idvd. Gets so far and then a box saying Unable  to prepare project for publishing because an error occured (-41)

Cannot SHARE project from IMovie to Idvd. Gets so far and then a box with a message saying Unable to prepare project for publishing because an error occured (-41).

Bengt is as always entirely correct, but another meaning of error -41 is that you have chosen the wrong encoding setting for the length of video you have:
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1502?viewlocale=en_US
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t.  The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • HT2937 how do i solve idvd not burning double layer disc?

I have an iDVD project that will not burn to a double layer disc. It burns to a single layer with no problems, but with a double layer the disc ejects when it finishes multiplexing and burning. There's still 18 minutes left! I have tried burning it x2 but no luck. Any ideas how to solve this?

    How long is the video?
Are you using good media like Verbatim DVD-R DL?

  • Unable to update, deleted and reinstalled Itunes and my Pioneer DVR 218-L will not run. Install corrupted driver. Have tried to delete and reinstall 3 times 11.1.64 and not working?

I recently attempted to " update " iTunes and received the missing .dll and Windows error message it seems everyone is posting. I had to delete  not only Itunes, but the Apple update and other associated file in order to get my Pioneer DVD DVR 218-L to work. The driver would not work and Microsoft had no fix for this. It told my registry was corrupt. Apple should certainly fix this problem. Now I cannot run iTunes at all unless I do not want a functioning DVD drive?

I am having the same issue with Vista 64 bit: After many failed download attempts ("network error") the Progress Bar briefly appears and that's it.
Searched for solution that led me to running "Microsoft FixIt", deinstalling iTunes, Apple Software Update, Mobile Dev Support, Bonjour, and Application Support - even manually deleting common files that were left over (tough with Vista). No difference. FYI, I was able to get rid of the Apple folder in Program Files (x86)/Common File, but not in Program Files/Common Files ... but that shouldn't make a difference as I am installing iTunes64Setup.exe, right?
I even tried iTunes 10.7 and 10.6.3 from Apple's support page ... same differnce.
Had a lot of security updates on 1/22/14 (all related to Office 2007 (including SP3), though). So I tried to restore past this point, but an "unknown error" occurred and I am stuck where I am ... lovely.
So now my system is chopped and I seem to not be able to get iTunes even close to my computer ... :-(

  • Tiger and pc version of the Pioneer DVR-110D problems

    ok here we go
I have tried the Beige G3 part of this forum with no luck cause i use a Beige G3 AIO
ok i have a Beige G3 AIO with a pc version of the pioneer DVR-110D running tiger 10.4.7 the drive will hardly work in tiger but will work flawlessly in 10.2 - 10.2.8, OS 9.x, windows 98, windows xp
the only way this drive will work in tiger is if i reboot with a disk in the drive and then it will work. but it will some times decide to stop working after 20 minutes or until i take out the disk.
some times it will stay working until i try to play dvd movies or try to burn with it then it will stop working and have to reboot with a disk in the drive in order to get it working again. if i don't reboot with a disk in the drive the drive will not work at all until i reboot with a disk in the drive.
im not sure if tiger is using a wrong driver for the drive or what. i know the drive is not bad cause it works so good under OS 9 and OS X 10.2 - 10.2.8. i can burn i app's under OS 9.2.2 with a modded pioneercdr authoring extension, and i can burn under OS X 10.2 - 10.2.8 with patchburn. but tiger refuses to work with the drive.
other than that tiger is running flawlessly on my Beige G3. the way it seems that its using a improper driver for the drive cause there is a apple branded version of the Pioneer DVR-110D with a modded firmware and a standard PC Pioneer DVR-110D with a pc firmware. if tiger is trying to use the drive as the apple version of the drive it can cause this cause the firmware is totally different from the standard pc version of the drive.
is there any one that can shed some light on this. maybe a driver edit or something maybe firmware to the apple version so i can try to flash this pc version to the apple firmware. or something. this drive should work as is if it works so great under OS 9.x, OS X 10.2 - 10.2.8, windows 98, and windows xp.
another problem i have is not being able to boot any OS X cd by normal means. i can get it to boot the 10.2 install cd by having the cd in the drive and hold the command option and power key's for about 5 seconds and some how the drive is tricked to boot and it does but it always fails to install cause the drive stop's working during the copy process.
the drive will boot the tiget install cd (with help from xpostfacto) without doing the trick to get OS X 10.2 install cd to boot but will still fail during the copy process. i know the fix for this is to get ahold of the apple version firmware for the DVR-110D drive. that also might fix the problem that it has under tiger. but it weird since the drive works great under OS X 10.2 - 10.2.8
sorry for making this a monster post but i would love to et this drive to work like it should under tiger like it does under the other OS's
BTW tiger is running great on the old beast besides the pioneer drive problem. not once has tiger failed to boot, not once has tiger crashed, ive timed this system on its boot time into tiger (34 seconds from start chime to full working tiger)its kinda sad to have tiger working so great but has this problem with the pioneer drive

i didnt say i used patchburn in tiger, only in jaguar did i use patchburn to gain burn support. altho i can try to use patchburn in tiger to see if it would help with the issue. AKA it seems like a driver issue to me
on how it will mount disk's when i reboot with a disk in the drive but will only halfway work. but will not mount anything if i boot without a disk in the drive when i put a disk in . but ASP in the ATA tap will show the drive . i can select disk burning in ASP only when the drive is working in its halfway state to show info. if i try when its in its non working state is will lock ASP up and some times throw tiger into a kernel panic when i try to reboot . after all that if i leave the drive alone tiger is ok

  • Can you burn dl disc in iDVD 5 with a Pioneer DVR-111D?

Guess I must have not posted that right the first time.

Is it installed as an internal drive? or and external burner?
iDVD 5 doesn't support external burners (directly).

  • Mitsubishi DVD-R DL video CPRM disks rejected by iDVD6 with Pioneer DVR-111

I am trying to burn a 7.5 gig video project. iDVD says "Can't burn to single layer disc" after insertion. I have a new Pioneer DVR-111 in a DP 2Ghz G5 3gig RAM.
CPRM seems to be the culprit.
    Any ideas, suggestions welcome.
    DP 2Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

'CPRM' was Pioneers attempt to put copy protection on writable media. It stands for Content Protection for Recordable Media. You will see a serial number code in the silver ring closest to the center that is used in CPRM.
None of the other manufacturers picked up on CPRM and I though it was dead. It shouldn't interfer with normal use of the media.
In general on the forum, although we recommend DVD-R for single-layer discs, we recommend DVD+R for double-layer discs.

  • Is Pioneer DVR-117D a doubleLayer recorder?

Hi , I have a G5 with a Pioneer DVR-117D writer. I want make a project with DvdStudio Pro , and it needs 8Gb for file sices. Can I burn a DVD9 with my hardware? thanks!

    according to this article:
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mac911/2005/05/duallayerdawn/index.php
it's mechanically a 108, but its firmware disables double layer burning. you can update the firmware, but this probably voids your warranty, etc, etc.
I'd point out that we've had sporadic problems with 108 and 109 drives, which have gone away with the 110. on DVD-Audio titles, these manifested as dropouts, and on DVD-Video, skipping. We were using media rated for the drive speed, burning at the rated speed. The 110 seems to have cleared up whatever was happening, so we're replacing all the older drives with 110s now.
newegg, com is selling internal Pioneer 110's for $45 each, by the way. hard to beat a deal like that...

  • New Pioneer DVR-110 installed, "patchburned", BUT drive won't stay closed.

Have had some good advice on how to intall a new DVD/CD drive, but after installing a New Pioneer DVR-110 (I thought succesfully) on my G4, and downloading Patchburn for Panther, the DVD drive now won't function as the computer keeps ejecting or opening the drive tray.
After installing the drive, I installed Patchburn, and Toast did recognize the drive. I then tried to verify disc permissions on the computer and it kept getting hung up during repair/verify saying it lost connection with the drive manager. Tried Onyx to repair/verify permissions and it too gets hung up. (Had to force quit)
Any advice on how to get the drawer of the DVD drive to stay closed and what else I need to do to get it working?... Alas I can not even reinstall my original OSX software now as I can't boot from the disc drive since it won't stay closed.

You can verify the closeness by opening the empty drive door with the KB and then hold the door open and close drawer with the KB.
