IDVD 5 Projects Destroyed by iDVD 2

By mistake I opened an iDVD 5 Project with iDVD 2. The project was immediately destroyed and the file which was originally several GB reduced to just 72KB. The file was destroyed even though I chose NOT to save it. Is this a known problem and can I retrieve my project.

Actually, these projects are not that complex. straight creation from iMovie chapters and only a little cleanup in iDVD.
I think it has something to do with the way iDVD handles favorites (since these were all based on favorites). In HOme/library/applications support/iDVD there is a folder called Favorites for new favorites I create in iDVD 6. The rest of my old favorites are in a folder called Installed Favorites. Those in "favorites" work while those in "installed favorites" don't work. Even though both are based on standard Apple Themes. Irony is the themes are in "installed themes".
Does that make sense to anyone? I could try moving files between these two folders, but I don't want to get this any more messed up thatn it already is.

  • Bluetooth Audio gets cut off during iMovie editing

    Hey Users,
Just started using iMovie09 and finding some "bugs".
When moving clips from the event window to the project window, bluetooth audio randomly gets severed, and the only way to get it back is to turn off then turn back on the device.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Hey Seatpant Flyers, just another tag on this bug. Not just adding event clips to the project destroys bluetooth but only skimming the mouse along the project will blow away the Bluetooth sound. FWIW.

  • 2 Developement Systems (4 System Landscape)???

    Dear all,
an Idea of a person in our project is (because he wants make make sure that nobody/no further project destroys - nonsense but reality) that we have to customize new objects etc. in a further development system AB2 an transport these into the original developmet system AB1.
Does anybody could give me some points pro or cons or have experience in such a construction?
    Many thanks
    DiDi

    Pro:
Provided access is limited in the new development system, the design should be stable and controlled
If using a strict and unique naming convention, you can prevent collisions and overwriting
    Con:
Expensive to allocate hardware/resource to configure new landscape
If objects are transported with the same technical names, collisions and overwriting will occur
I think every situation is different, but the most typical scenario and justification for a dual landscape is having one system to support break fixes in the current production environment and another system for new projects. Making a new system for each project introduces more complexities. If you have too many projects going on simultaneously, raise the issue to the program manager or someone who has visibility over multiple projects.

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !

  • How do i add a second movie to an idvd project when 'sharing' from imovie always opens a new idid window?

I am creating an idvd project with multiple imovie projects.  I know I need to share my imovie project with Idvd.  WEhen I do that, idvd automatically opens.  Now I want to add a second project.  The problem is that when I share imovie projects a second time, it automatically opens a second idvd project.  I want to add multiple imovie projects on one idvd project.

One should not share directly to iDVD from iMovie.  The Share ➙ Media Browser option should be used as that results in a better quality movie in iDVD.  Do the same for both movies and you can drag the movies from the Media ➙ Movies pane in iDVD into the DVD menu window at the left.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Adding music files to iDVD project

    Hello All,
Sorry if this has been asked before... I didn't seem to find anything in my "search" of past posts...
A friend of mine recently passed away & I am (trying to) putting together a dvd to send to his brother that includes some home video of us ..... and I would like to include some music (files) from an old band he was in.... (he did a hme made cd)...
I'd like his songs to be in a separate folder and be able to select from them with the menu (like Toast sets up a "music dvd)...
All I have been able to figure to do is to include an iTunes playlist but that way one cannot jump from song to song... I even tried to do a seperate iMovie project with chapters for each song then export into iDVD & that (sort of) worked but I then couldn't figure out how to "combine" those "scenes" into my main project with the movies too...
Now I am going the looong way around and saving out individual clips of each song as full quality dv and then will try to add them into a folder in my main project....
My short question to all this long wind is:
is there a way to create a "slide show" of individual music files the same way that slide show of photos works... so that you can move around between them with the menu.... all I have found is that a play list can be added into the sound "well" but then you cna't skip from song to song like you can with a what Toast does when it sets up a music dvd
    any ideas?
thanks & regards to all for a great holiday
    from the coast of Maine
    -Larry

Well...I'm not sure if my suggestion or ideas will help, but you could certainly use iMovie to organize and edit the movie portion of your DVD, then for the music portion, first add your songs to iTunes, then go back to your iMovie project, select the songs you want to add to your DVD project, and drag each song into the timeline. Now, you can add chapter markers at the beginning of each song. This might not give you a separate folder to open (folders are for data DVDs), but at least your audience will be able to see each song title and skip through the songs as neededce they are chapters. Other than this, you might want to wander over to the Toast discussion forum on the Roxio.com site where users of Toast may have a suggestion. With Toast, you might be able to drag your video and audio portions of your project into Toast separately, that way you only have two chapters: Video and Audio.

  • Can iDVD 09 open and work with an iDVD project i made in 06?

I am bringing over my iMovie 06 and iDVD projects over to new mac with iDVD 09. I took out iMovie 09 and resinstalled 06HD. The iMovie 06 files now open ok, but not the iDVD 06 projects, when I try to open them with iDVD 09. Should I remove iDVD 09 and install iDVD 06.
I heard that iMovie 06 files will import ok into iDVD 09, but now assuming that the iDVD 06 projects themselves will not open in the newer program.

i uninstalled iDVD 09 and installed iDVD 06 to see if I could open the G4's old iDVD projects.
Error message says iDVD 06 will not work with this OS. What gives? Apparently iMovie HD06 will work, as far as I can tell, with just a few tests.
What CAN I DO HERE to bring over my iDVD 06 projects so I can work them on Snow Leopard?
Luckily the dvd projects are not many and not complex. But there are so many issues with all of this. I might as well have a computer that knows only Chinese characters. I got the new mac so my video work wouldnt clog up on the old G4. But this is beyond clog. This is cement, stuck at the starting gate.

  • Unable to open existing project in idvd

I have saved a project in Idvd (dvdproj. file), I can locate the project however when I try to open it, it opens a blank project.  I am using idvd ver. 7.04. What am I doing wrong as I don't want to re-create as I have several hours invested in the Idvd project file.

I don't normally use iPhoto, so I imported a QuickTime movie. It shows up in the Media pane in iDVD. Did you create an Album for them?

  • Unable to open IMovie Project in IDVD

I have created a 40 minute movie in IMovie 08 (my first). I am unable to open the movie in IDVD 08 and Garage Band. The project name is visible in the media browser but is not available for selection.
I have published the movie to the media browser and it still is not available to IDVD.
I am new to apple computers and have been unable to get help with this problem.

    Here's two things to try:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Can't open project saved in iDVD4 on new Mac with iDVD 7.02

I used iDVD 4 (in OS 10.4) a great deal but recently upgraded my Mac to Leopard on a Mac Pro. I have now iLife08 installed with iDVD 7.02.
When I try to open an old iDVD project file I get the following error message:
"Changing the TV standard will require iDVD to encode all previously encoded assets again."
I checked and made sure that iDVD is set to PAL (by opening it on a blank project) and I know for a fact that the old projects were also PAL so there is NO change of TV standard. When I click OK on the dialogue box, iDVD quits.
Am I doing something wrong here? I cannot go back to the old version as iDVD4 and 5 report that they will not run on OS 10.5.6. (iMovie 4 will run). This seems an almost Microsoft like lack of file compatibility.
    Any suggestions are very welcome.
    Dave

After further investigation, I think it is a bug with iDVD7.
It will open an NTSC iDVD4 project with no problems. It is a PAL version that it chokes on. I suspect this is an example of the "NTSC default" mentality in the software where things are not tested enough for other standards. My default if iDVD7 is set to PAL but something is not working.
I went back to my old iDVD4 projects and then saved them as an archive, ie with all files and themes included. These files, even if PAL, would open in iDVD7.
    Very strange.

  • Can't Open Project in iDVD 7 from previous iDVD 6

I have an archived project from the iDVD 6 that I have copied to my new CPU. From iDVD's main selection window, if I choose open an existing project, and select the project, it never opens. Instead I am returned to the selection window.
As an experiment, I have copied over my iPhoto library and and placed a folder with some images the original project referenced at the same location of this machine. It didn't help.
The file I am tring to open is called "50 Years Archived.dvdproj" and was created with iDVD 6.
I am using iDVD 7. When I installed this version of iLife, I chose not to install iWeb and Garage Band since I am planning not use them. I had installed them on my old system.
I did not do a migration to get content from my old MBP to this new MBP. I drag-and-dropped the iDVD project file. I checked the permissions and they are set to "read/write" on the project file for my user, admin and others.

I have an archived project from the iDVD 6 that I have copied to my new CPU.
People often use the term 'archived project' rather loosely. It IS possible to create an actual archived project out of iDVD - it's an option under FILE. Is THIS what you did? ... or are you simply referring to the iDVD 6 project file?
An actual 'archived project' file contains all the pieces that went into the project and is self-contained and usually large. I would expect this file to work.
On the other hand, if what you have is simply the old iDVD 6 project file - that contains links to parts of the project - I can see you might have a problem.
What do you have? An archived project or just a saved project file?

  • IDVD Project Locked. wont let me open.

I recently wiped my partition and reinstalled all my apps.
And when I reloaded the OS I used a different name.
However when I try to open a certain iDVD project I get this message
"The project Bday Pool Party Sleepover 2009
is locked by the user xxxxxx (user ID 501):
    2009-08-26 16:48:09 -0400.
The project can't be opened at this time".
However Im able to open other iDVD projects I created under
the same previous user name but not this one.
And this is my home computer and no one else has access to it.
And I never locked or password protected it in iDVD if thats even possible.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

    To quote Rich839:
I would start with deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iMovie and trash the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User(the house icon)/Library/Preferences. iDVD will replace that file on relaunch. To do a permissions repair, open Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities. Select your hard drive icon displayed at the top of the left hand pane, and then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait a few minutes while permissions are repaired, and when finished, launch iDVD and see if you still have the problem.
Last suggestion: Try adding a new user account with the authors name of the original iDvd project file.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • After upgrading to idvd 7.0.2 old project no longer can be built

It is very annoying, because idvd 6.0.4 perfectly did the job, idvd 7.0.0 in the same project rendered green slides instead of transitions in slideshows and idvd 7.0.2 after 9 hours of work returns multiplexing error. I tried solutions, that were gived to similar problem in other topics, such as removing idvd's preferences and cahe files, but it didn't help. I don't have any problems, shown in dvd map, I import movies as .dv files, not from iMovie, I tried using different compression settings (High Quality, Best Performance, Prof. Quality), but nothing helped. The most funny thing is that, when I removed all movies, and left slideshows only, the project still returned the error. Also what I noticed, is that during the final stage of asset parsing, idvd project file actually increased in size to somewhat 3.64 Gb, almost equal to what was shown in disk meter in project info.
Any sugests? I would be very thankful to any kind of help, because the issue really took very long time with no result.

Dear SDMacuser, thanks for the information. But I have been using idvd since 2005. And have never had any kind of problems - neither with correct slideshows rendering nor with burning. However with idvd 7.0.2 have I encountered the new problem during attempt to create video_ts folder and disc image -There was a problem during multiplexing/burning. Removing perian component also hasn't helped. What could I try doing next?
