IDVD 5 won't launch on G5, current OSX

I'm running a G5, latest version of Mac OSX, installed iLife including iDVD. I've installed the update to iDVD5.
Still, the program won't launch separately or from within iMovie. I get the Beachball Of Death and have to Force Quit the program.
I've read some boards here, but none of them address my issue.
Whaddup?

David;
Nah-you have plenty of space.
Trash your old preference files.
MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences. In the Preferences folder, locate the following file:
com.apple.idvd.plist Drag that file to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
Re-lauch and let me know.

iCal on my MBP won't launch iCal or Mail. When selecting each I get a 'dock logo' bouncing once or twice but no response after that. Any thought's?

    Good evening Ferd 11
Thanks for the advice. I tried the Safe Boot with no luck, however, the 'client combo' update has worked and Mail and iCal is now up and running.
I wasted 3 hours today at Apple's Genius Bar in Sheffield, UK, in our 5 minutes of conversation the 'muppet' suggested I went home backed up and did an 'erase and install' on the HD.

  • IDVD won't launch?

My Mac Mini came with iLife5 preloaded but I never used anything. I then bought a copy of iLife '06 and just loaded iPhoto6 which I used for about a year. About 6 months ago I bought an external hard drive and made it my boot drive by cloning everything over to it with Super Duper.
Two weeks ago, wanting to burn an iDVD slide show I created a slide show, and clicked Export To iDVD. When things on the screen didn't seem to match the directions in my iPhoto 6 Missing Manual it occured to me that the manual was refering to iDVD 6 and I was using iDVD 5. At this point I got out my copy of iLife 06, inserted it into my CD drive and copied the iDVD 6 application onto my external drive.
Today I attempted to export a slide show to iDVD from iPhoto 6 via the Share/Send to iDVD command. My computer ran for quite awhile then it appeared to have completed the export. Trouble is iDVD didn't open as the manual indicated it would. So I tried to boot iDVD. While the iDVD icon did bounce twice when I clicked it iDVD did not open. So I checked this site for suggestions, deleted the com.apple.iDVD.iPlist file and repaired permissions. iDVD still does not open.
I used the finder to check things out and I found that it shows iDVD installed on both the original Mac Mini 40 Gig hard drive and my 160 Gig external drive.
Anyone know what's going on here and what I should do to get iDVD to launch properly?
    Thanks!

    John,
Actually my external drive is my boot drive. I cloned the contents of the 40 Gig hard drive that came with my Mini onto the external drive and then made that drive the boot drive. I'm not positive about this but it seems to me that the copy of iDVD 5 that I cloned to my external did boot although I never more than took a glance at it as I didn't own a DVD burner at the time. I think the problem began after downloading iDVD 6 which I assume overwrote the copy of iDVD already on the external drive via the cloning operation.

  • Adobe Edge Inspect App won't launch on MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.5

    Hi there,
I can't get Edge Inspect to launch on my MacBook Pro. It works fine on my iMac with the same OS.
We I click on the launcher icon nothing happens (it doesn't even bounce on the dock).
    Any idea what's causing this?
    Thank you,
    Giuseppe.

Edge Inspect desktop has no UI and only Inspect icon will be visible in the menu bar. Also, you need to be logged in with Adobe ID in the app.

  • IDVD won't burn project in current form!

I made a project - saved it- burned a test dvd. Then I went back in = made a lot of changes - saved. Closed IDVD. Reopened the saved project (it has a completely different name so its easy to find) - then I go to burn an image.
What happens is bizarre! It burns a DVD without ANY of my changes. I go back to IDVD - I preview the movie - there are all my changes. I burn a DVD - no changes present?????
    What can I do?

You need to delete the encoded assets so the project will reencode everything.

  • IDvD 7.0.4 won't launch in 10.4.11

    iDvD 7.0.4 won't launch in 10.4.11.
I have enough HD space, all SW updates done. Disk utilities...
When I click the icon, it bounces once then nothing...
    help..
    Lotsa RAM.

I am having the exact same problem.... I only use it once every 6 months or so to back up photo's by making a DVD slideshow of them.
I click on the program icon and get nothing, but it shows it as open. I can then go to file and select new or open, and get nothing, then in finder, it will show as (not responding)
After deleting the pref file as noted above, it acts as if it opens, gives me the splash screen asking what type of project I want to make then nothing.
I really, really need to figure this out. We made a trip to China and adopted our daughter and DO NOT want to loose these! as well as want to make the slideshow to show family!
I'm even debating if I should just upgrade to the version of OSX... and iLife if that would even help.
    Any Ideas will be appreciated!

  • IDVD 7.04 won't launch

iDVD 7.04 won’t launch. When I try I immediately get a window that states “The application iDVD quit unexpectedly…”. Previous to this iDVD would launch, but would hang on creating a new project. I haven’t used this application in over a year.
    Any advice?
    Mac OSX 10.5.8 on a Mac Pro, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8 GB RAM

    Hi
    My list
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
*No of Colors - must be set to millions*

  • Quark 7.5 won't launch with OSX Mavericks 10.9.1

QuarkXPress 7.5 won't launch with OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 I keep getting the window saying "QarkXPress quit unexpectedly" (see image below) and when I click on reopen, it does the same everytime. HELP!

    Hi DCG,
hope oyu had a great christmas.
I posted the post you reference on June 11, 2013.
Since then a lot of things have happened. We released 9.5.4 several weeks ago, which seems to work fine for everybody under Mavericks.
We also posted an update for version 10 that makes it Mavericks compatible and afterwards released an update that fixes most issues reported.
So please try 10.0.2 or 9.5.4 on Mavericks, they should both work fine: http://www.quark.com/de/Support/Downloads/Search_Results.aspx?pid=1&oid=2&ftid=2
    Thanks

  • Itunes won't launch - requires Quicktime 7.5.5 but software update says software is current

itunes won't launch - requires Quicktime 7.5.5 but software update says software is current

    Are you using Leopard?
If so, let's try installing a QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL761
If you install that does that clear up the iTunes trouble?

  • IDVD '06 won't launch anymore

    Hello,
I installed iLife 06 because I am very unhappy with iLife 09 and its loss of video quality (iMovie and iDVD) for movies imported from my miniDV camcorder.
I plan to use iLife 06 because I heard that it will not reduce video quality.
But now iDVD won't run. I immediately get a window that says 'The application iDVD quit unexpectedly'.
    iMovies works without problems.
    Thank you for any help!
PS I have 25GB left on my HD...

The best combination for high quality is iMovie 6 used with iDVD 7.
As you have iLife 6 and iLife 9 you have both.
25GB is only just enough - try to increase it.

  • CS3 Installer Won't Launch

    OSX 10.5.5
Intel Quad Core Tower, 8GB Ram
    Currently installed: CS3.3 Master Collection
I am trying to reinstall Acrobat 8 from my Master Collection 3 disc, and Setup won't launch. I've also tried Utilities:Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection, and it won't launch either.
I've tried the standard solutions: fix file permissions, install from admin account and new user account, uninstalled CS4 Beta applications. Nothing has helped.
Adobe technical support has been no help. I've been on the phone with them for two hours this morning.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

BRIAN, HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME, BUT I WAS USING WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, NOT A MAC SYSTEM. STILL MAYBE IT MAY BE OF HELP.
I had problems uninstalling and reinstalling my Adobe Master Collection CS3. The problem being that the installer would run and then disappear without initiating the uninstall/installation process.
Here are the simple combination of steps which worked for me.
1/ removing Adobe Master Collection CS3 by running add/remove programs
2/ running the Adobe CS3 clean script. I'm almost 100% certain I chose option 1 when running the script http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
3/ out of desperation and realising I had nothing to loose because I had an image of the fairly newly configured hard drive I was using, I deleted the Adobe "Installers" Folder located inside the Adobe folder at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe
Steps 1 and 2 above did not solve my problem.
Step 3 did solve my problem. However, I do not know if step 1 and/or 2 were required for step 3 to work.
    GOOD LUCK :-)
PS. Please let users of this site know if this solution has worked for you ...and if so, pass the solution on elsewhere too.

  • IDVD will not launch in iMovie HD 5.0.2

The iDVD will not launch as a notice says it won't launch with my version of osx. I want to be able to burn DVDs but can't. Suggestions???

If you want to use the iLife programs, per Niels response on your other post, you need to upgrade to iLife '06. Looking at the requirements, iLife '06 is the only version you can upgrade to, as iLife '08 and later require Intel processors for iMovie and other functions. One place you can buy it from is: http://hardcoremac.stores.yahoo.net/ilife06.html .
There are some freebie DVD burning programs available, however, you lose the integration that the iLife programs bring with them.
Roxio makes several programs that will burn DVD's. I've used Toast Titanium for years and can recommend it. See http://www.roxio.com/

  • Microsoft Office X- won't launch anymore

    Hi:
I have Microsoft Office X- All of a sudden my Microsoft Office Apps won't launch anymore. They report an error yet if I open a document it will launch Microsoft Word or PowerPoint just fine.
I have tried to replace the Microsoft Office X from a Super Duper back up but it also is still failing to launch.
I am guessing "launch services" is goofed up. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
    Thank you,
    Reid

I don't think it is an Intel based problem. I have a G5 iMac and a legal old MS office v.X upgrade on top of office 2001 version. Worked fine until a few weeks ago except for a few years needing to keep current with the latest XML free MS converter. Repaired disk/permissions. Dug out all of the app/preferences from my user/library. Reinstalled and it checked with MS mothership. However, still crashes on launch. I think perhaps the most recent OSX security update?

  • IDVD will not launch to burn DVD

In my iMovie HD 5.0.2, the iDVD will not launch to burn a DVD. I have tried everything. When clicking the iDVD, it says to go to Finder to launch. In Finder, I go to applications and click iDVD and get:You cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OSX.
    What are my options???

Just a little confused. I already have iphoto, imovie, garage band etc that would be in a ilife download so what are the benefits? Currently, when I click for software upgrades, there are none. Would downloading ilife really change anything?
